• What's the reason for leaving an extra blank line at the end of a code file?

  Eclipse and MyEclipse create new Java files with an extra blank line after the last closing brace by default. I think CodeWarrior did the same thing a few years back, and that some people leave such blank lines in their code either by intention or laziness. So, this seems to be at least a moderately widespread behavior. As a former human language editor -- copy editing newspapers, mostly -- I find that those lines look like sloppiness or accidents, and I can't think of a reason to leave them in source files. I know they don't affect compilation in C-style languages, including Java. Are there benefits to having those lines, and if so, what are they?

• Open working copy file from eclipse history view

  The history view of eclipse shows you a list of files changed in a certain revision. When you open the context menu on one of these you have the option 'Open' which opens a view of that file in that revision. How can I open the editor for the selected file, i.e. the file in the version of the working copy, right from the history view? Background is that I want to use the history view to find files that have been changed recently to do code reviewing. People commit via subversion and I use subclipse to connect eclipse to the subversion server. Today, I must use the 'Open resource'/'Open type' function and type the name of the file that I can read from the history view.

• How to find the mime type of a file in python?

  Let's say you want to save a bunch of files somewhere, for instance in BLOBs. Let's say you want to dish these files out via a web page and have the client automatically open the correct application/viewer. Assumption: The browser figures out which application/viewer to use by the mime-type (content-type?) header in the HTTP response. Based on that assumption, in addition to the bytes of the file, you also want to save the MIME type. How would you find the MIME type of a file? I'm currently on a Mac, but this should also work on Windows. Does the browser add this information when posting the file to the web page? Is there a neat python library for finding this information? • Where are my $_FILES? Ajax Uploading

If I output print_r($_POST), the parameters are sent properly, but only the file name of the image. So it seems the files themselves are not being sent along. How do I handle this? Thanks Rich

  I am beginning to build a tool that uses WebDAV. I am having trouble wrapping my head around something here. I think I am missing something conceptual. I can use PUT's to add files to the server. I can use GET's to read files from the server, but when I try to use GET on a directory I get a 403:Forbidden. I am using basic authentication. • XCode Syntax Coloring Broken

  XCode frequently seems to lose it's mind, and doesn't color code system classes or provide correct "code sense" suggestions. This is endlessly frustrating. I have rebuilt the code sense indexes and completely restarted XCode with no change. I have built my project to make sure there are no errors and restarted. I have copied my files (sans .svn files) to a different location - same problem. I've already completely disabled the argument "placeholders" because they screw up my documents when i type too fast... all I'm asking for is for the "esc" key to display the correct list of properties and methods.

  Hi When you enable pre-receive hook for git repository: It takes no arguments, but for each ref to be updated it receives on standard input a line of the format: < old-value SP < new-value SP < ref-name LF where < old-value is the old object name stored in the ref, < new-value is the new object name to be stored in the ref and is the full name of the ref. When creating a new ref, < old-value is 40 0. Does anyone can explain me how do I examine all the files that will be changed in the repository if i allow this commit?   I am using the Expression Encoder SDK to encode .avi and Flash files to a .wmv format suitable for Silverlight. By default, EE encodes files with audio using the the WMA PRO codec. If you are running Windows Server 2003, this is a problem as it doesn't support the WMA PRO codec and produces and error message similar to the following. Error Message: The Audio Profile settings do not match a valid system profile. Error Source: Microsoft.Expression.Encoder Error Target Site: System.String GetProfileString() I am looking for a way to change the default audio codec to something suitable for WS 2003. I am aware that although not supported natively, there is a highly invasive way to install Windows Media Player 11 and it's codecs on WS 2003 but this involves registry tinkering and other hacks not suitable for our production environments so that solution is out.

• Saving a "project"-type document (containing sub-documents)

  I'm trying to create a "project"-like document, in that it contains subdocuments in a specified directory. I'd like a brand new save of a document to set up that directory with appropriate subdirectories. I'd like a "Save As" to copy all those subdirectories and any files within them to the new location. But I'd like a "Save" to only update certain data files and (of course) not overwrite all the subdocuments! What's the "safe" way to do this? I tried keeping track of the file's location in my document, and checking to see if it was the same or different than the save location, but it feels messy, and I'm worried that Apple is doing something behind the scenes that will make this direct URL-to-URL comparison fail in some circumstances. Is there a standard way to do something like this?

• Problem using PHP to open text file - blank spaces are removed

  Hi All, I'm trying to open and process ASCII files using PHP, but am having problems. The problem is that the blank spaces are removed, which I don't want to have happen, since the files are fixed width. The PHP script I used is this: $myFile = Test.SEG"; $file_handler = fopen ($myFile, r) or die ("Can't open SEG File."); while (!feof($file_handler)) { $dataline = fgets($file_handler); echo $dataline, ""; } I tried pasting samples of the original file in here, but the spaces were removed here as well! At this stage I'm just building the script in steps, getting one step working at a time, but this is as far as I've gotten. I plan to use substr() on '$dataline' to pick out the fields I need. Any suggestions on how to keep the spaces intact? Something tells me it's something to do with encoding, but I don't know for sure. Thanks!

• Adobe Reader process fails when starting second instance

  In our C# WinForms application, we generate PDF files and launch Adobe Reader (or whatever the default system .pdf handler is) via the Process class. Since our PDF files can be large (approx 200K), we handle the Exited event to then clean up the temp file afterwards. The system works as required when a file is opened and then closed again. However, when a second file is opened (before closing Adobe Reader) the second process immediately exits (since Reader is now using it's MDI powers) and in our Exited handler our File.Delete call should fail because it's locked by the now joined Adobe process. However, in Reader we instead get: There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found. The unusual thing is that if I put a debugger breakpoint before the file deletion and allow it to attempt (and fail) the deletion, then the system behaves as expected! I'm positive that the file exists and fairly positive that all handles/file streams to the file are closed before starting the process.   Where are these system proxy settings? I noticed my connection has been slow for a while, then I checked the connection settings and was surprised there were set a proxy, but I cant see what exactly it is using. Where can I check which IP it was routing the connection for me ? Here is what I saw from Firefox (12.0) options: http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4370/sysproxy.png As far as I can remember, it has always been "no proxy" and not "system proxy". Unless new firefox version has set that "system proxy" to default?

If I print the argc argument, it's 14 for the second instance of runner.exe, and they are all weird stuff like Files\Microsoft, SQL, Files\Common and so on. I can't figure out why this happens. I want to be able to string as many runner.exe calls using command line arguments as possible, or at least 2. How can I do that? I am using Windows 7 if that makes a difference.

  so my network layou is something like this (I don't have enough reputation to post images so here's the link) http://i.imgur.com/OaD4i.png now Alice has access to SSH gateway (just gateway from now on) with: ssh [email protected] and the authorized keys file on the gateway looks like this #/home/Alice/.ssh/authorized_keys command="ssh -t alice@web" ssh-rsa ABCD...E== alice@somehost so when Alice trys to connect to the Gateway with her private key, she actually gets connected to the Web server (the gateway pc can make a connection to the web server with a passwordless private key, so that stays transparent). The question 1) How can I set this up so that Alice will be able to scp things to web server too? 2) I know this makes a separete connection, but is there any way for this to work as a normal ssh so that even something like -R12345:localhost:22 would work?

I want to know how can I proved security by not allowing a user to access files of other users. A user will be executing a java or c++ program in his folder which can be used to read files on the server. How to prevent this? I am new to this thing I don't know how to go about this.   tl;dr version, Does a software path exist to convert from openscad input to render on a website via webgl? What I'm trying to do is display OpenSCAD created designs uploaded via post on a LEMPy driven website; this is currently done by outputting to a static png image. I would like to render one of openscad's export formats(wikibooks) and convert for display in javascript/webgl through some software path available via linux batch. CPU and RAM are relatively unconstrained but no GPU available. I've looked into CopperLeicht, but it requires CopperCube output which would require windows or wine. FOSS is preferred but not required. edit: I found three.js has converters for fbx, dae, obj, and 3ds formats which might be helpful as one of the last steps.

• debug javascript in release mode with yui compressions

  In our build scripts, we are using YUI compressor to minify/compress javascript and css files. As this combines the js into one file, it needs to be referenced in the Master Layout script, e.g. First question is what is best way to use both, so that if we are developing (in debug mode) it will reference each js file individually? Second question, is once on production, would there be any steps/solution to debugging the javascript on the production server, i.e. conditionallly load the javascript files based on setting a "debug=true" setting in either js or .net?

  I'm using Eclipse's create InstallOptions menu to create a custom INI page with radio-buttons for repackaging the Blackberry Desktop installer. There are 2 sections for each type: "Internet" and "Enterprise". I need a user to select 1 of the 2 options and depending on their selection, the page will carry over the selection chosen in the custom page, jump to the INSTFILES page, and continue onto the end. I couldn't find any concrete documentation on getting INI pages to load in the script (I'm probably searching incorrectly), and then pass data from one page to the next (according to fields I guess?) • parsing string off a configuration using strtok in C

  in the configuration file i have entries similar to this one: filepath = c:\Program Files\some value Where the path can contain spaces and there are no quotes on that string. I tried parsing this with strtok like: char *option; char *value; value = strtok(line, " ="); strcpy(option, value); value = strtok(NULL, " ="); where line is the line I am reading from the file, option will contain the left side of the equal (filepath) and value will contain the right side (c:\program files\some value). I know, it's poor coding, but I haven't found something better. sorry... In any case, for those options where there's no space in the right side it works great, but in those containing spaces it only return the string until the 1st space: c:\Program. Is there any other way to do this? Code is appreciated. Jessica

• Hard link not works under MacOS in GUI mode

  Hi, i faced a little strange behavior, while using hard links. From terminal, i create a text file 1.txt and a hard link "to this file" nano 1.txt mkdir dir ln 1.txt ./dir/ I check the resulting hard link and see, that it's contents is the same, as of "original" file. less ./dir/1.txt I change the initial file ... nano 1.txt ... and see, that changes was reflected in hard-link less ./dir/1.txt I change content of hard-link (more correct, of course - file, being referenced with hard-link) ... nano ./dir/1.txt ... and see, that changes are reflected in initial file less 1.txt Until now, all going well... Now, I close terminal and start playing with created files (1.txt and ./dir/1.txt) from Finder. When i change on this two files with TextEdit, changes are not reflected in another file. Just like the hard link was teared off... Whats going on here ?
