• Problem with Wicket and SignInExample in IE8

  I have an interesting problem with Wicket. I'm basically duplicating the 'authentication' example from the v1.4.x in SVN. It works fine in FireFox and Chrome but not in IE8. When in IE8, after I click the submit button it returns with a 404 error but i can manually paste the "destination" url in and it goes there fine (as an authenticated user). Another scenario is, I try to login, it gives me a 404, I hit refresh (looking at the html source I see the page version incremented), relogin and it works fine. So to summarize: I login the first time in IE8 and it returns a 404 error, hit refresh and ogin again and it works fine. I login the first time in IE8 and it returns a 404 error, manually paste the destination url in the browser and it goes there fine as if im logged in. I've compared everything between IE8 and FireFox from the rendered source and the code is not doing anything special but I cannot figure out what the differences are? Thanks. KJQ

  I have an old c++ application that needs to be modified to work with windows 7. Problem is in creating a new folder and saving a file in that folder. This folder should be created in c:\program files\myApp\data\newFolder. If I run application as administrator than the folder is created, otherwise "Access is denied" error is thrown. My question is following: Is there an option to make changes to the code so that the folder can be created in "program files" nad that files can be saved in this folder? • sqlite - Foreign keys in VS2008 Designer

  Hello I'm starting over to use strong typed datasets in VS 2008 with sqlite and running into a problem. I have some tables that have foreign keys allready defined in the database. I can see those in the Server-Explorer. Now i create a new strong typed Dataset with the designer and add only one table from that realtion to the dataset. Then i like to add the second one and i get an error message "Unexpected error ... Source: Microsoft.VSDesigner; ErrorCode:-1" No Additional Info. The error does not occure if i add both tables at the same time (say i drag them from the serverexplorer). Is there any way to add subsequent tables to an dataset that are in relation(s) to alreay added once? Many thanks _rene

• c++ networking issue- retrnsmittion without ccongestion

  I wrote an application in c++ which send data over tcp connection to several machines.as part of the protocol I use in my application, the other side sends hearbeat messages from time to time, then I know that the connection is still alive. now, I want this application to work on 100 machines or more at the same time. but, I see that sometimes I don't get these heartbeat messages although they sent: I see in wireshark that the packet arrived, then my OS doesn't ack on this message, so there are some retransmit without any ack from my OS. if I look in the window size property - I saw that there is no issue in this part. what can be the root cause for this behavior? it is something in my code that I should change? this is my select code: int res = select(fdCount, &readFds, NULL, NULL, NULL ); I'm using server 2008 r2.   I had created a new table named USERLOG with two fields from a previous VIEW. The table already consist of about 9000 records. The two fields taken from the VIEW, i.e. weblog_views consist of IP (consists of IP address), and WEB_LINK (consists of URL). This is the code I used, CREATE TABLE USERLOG AS SELECT C_IP, WEB_LINK FROM weblog_views; I want to add another column to this table called the USER_ID, which would consists of a sequence starting with 1 to 9000 records to create a unique id for each existing rows. I need help with this part. I'm using Oracle SQL Developer: ODMiner version 3.0.04. I tried using the AUTO-INCREMENT option, ALTER TABLE USERLOG ADD USER_ID INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT; But I get an error with this, Error report: SQL Error: ORA-01735: invalid ALTER TABLE option 01735. 00000 - "invalid ALTER TABLE option" So, I would really appreciate any help that I can get!

• Sun webstack vs Installing PHP, MySQL, Apache individually

  Is it possible to install PHP, MySQL, Apache individually on Solaris instead of installing them through a webstack? What are the advantages and disadvantages? I seem to frequently get a CURL error on Solaris when dealing with HTTPS sites. (error:81072080:lib(129):func(114):reason(128). I have no clue why that error is occuring and thought it might solve it, if I upgrade to latest PHP,MySQL,Apache versions. At this point I am not even sure if it's a Solaris issue. Any advice?   Apparently, on my notebook, I have suddenly lost any ability to use network connections, involving SSL and/or data encryption, provided my MS: 1) remote desktop connections: Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end 2) browse HTTPS sites: Can't browse HTTPS pages. TLS error 3) communicate over WiFi, while wired is ok Is there any possible one central reason for all of these problems in Windows? Third party applications, like Putty, works fine. Is it possible to reset/repair certificate store or something in Windows?

• Sql server management studio reporting "The semaphore timeout period has expired."

  On our development sql server, executing any query containing more than approximately 700 characters stalls for about 10 seconds and then reports the following error: Msg 121, Level 20, State 0, Line 0 A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The semaphore timeout period has expired.) for example, this query select * from FooTable where id = ' (.. and then 700 spaces ..) ' fails fails with the timeout error while this one select * from FooTable where id = ' (.. and then 600 spaces ..) ' fails with the expected Msg 8169, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier. - immediately. Indeed, throwing any query, including random garbage at our dev sql server exhibits this behaviour, while any other sql server I have available acts as expected, so I would think that the query never actually gets to parsing on the server. I'm at a loss here - any hints?

• Outlook 2010 says "File is in use by another application or user" while closing

  Outlook opens, gets new emails and everything but when I close it, it gives me the following error and then opens up a Save a File window after I cancel this error message. There's no other computer that may be using Outlook under this User Name because I just set-up a brand new User Name. However, Colligo Briefcase is attached to the Outlook and not sure if this is triggering and if so how I address the issue!? Thanks a lot!

• Is there such a thing as a dektop application event aggregator, similar to that used in Prism?

  The event aggregator in Prism is great, and allows loosely coupled communication between modules within a composite application. Does such a thing exist that allows the same thing to happen between standalone applications running on a user's desktop? I could imagine developing a solution that uses WCF with TCP binding and running inside Windows Process Activation Service. Client applications could subscribe or publish events to this service as required and it would ensure all other listeners get notified of events as appropriate. Using TCP would enable event messages to be pushed out to clients without the need for polling, ensuring messages are delivered very quickly. I can't help but think though that such a thing would already exist... Is anyone aware of something like this, or have any advice on how it may be best implemented?

• Web based API that can tell me if a number is a landline or cell phone?

  My application sends SMS messages to people, but the numbers entered in as their cell phone are sometimes land lines (this is user error or the user not really knowing if the contact number they have is a cell phone or landline.) I found a few websites that can tell me if a number is a landline or cell phone, but they do not offer programatic API's. Is anyone aware of a way a web application can figure out if a number can receive SMS messages? I guess a test SMS message is one way, but my current SMS gateway fails hard when it gets a landline number and doesn't tell me the landline number it tried to send the SMS to. I'll follow this up with my carrier, but I would love an easy way to let the user entering phone numbers in if they are a landline or cell number. Update: There are ways to figure this out. Take a look at http://www.phonevalidator.com, they can query a phone number and figure out if it is a landline or cell phone.

• ZF Autoloader to load ancestor and requested class

  I am integrating Zend Framework into an existing application. I want to switch the application over to Zend's autoloading mechanism to replace dozens of include() statements. I have a specific requirement for the autoloading mechanism, though. Allow me to elaborate. The existing application uses a core library (independent from ZF), for example: /Core/Library/authentication.php /Core/Library/translation.php /Core/Library/messages.php this core library is to remain untouched at all times and serves a number of applications. The library contains classes like class ancestor_authentication { ... } class ancestor_translation { ... } class ancestor_messages { ... } in the application, there is also a Library directory: /App/Library/authentication.php /App/Library/translation.php /App/Library/messages.php these includes extend the ancestor classes and are the ones that actually get instantiated in the application. class authentication extends ancestor_authentication { } class translation extends ancestor_translation { } class messages extends ancestor_messages { } usually, these class definitions are empty. They simply extend their ancestors and provide the class name to instantiate. $authentication = new authentication(); The purpose of this solution is to be able to easily customize aspects of the application without having to patch the core libraries. Now, the autoloader I need would have to be aware of this structure. When an object of the class authentication is requested, the autoloader would have to: 1. load /Core/Library/authentication.php 2. load /App/Library/authentication.php My current approach would be creating a custom function, and binding that to Zend_Loader_Autoloader for a specific namespace prefix. Is there already a way to do this in Zend that I am overlooking? The accepted answer in this question kind of implies there is, but that may be just a bad choice of wording. Are there extensions to the Zend Autoloader that do this? Can you - I am new to ZF - think of an elegant way, conforming with the spirit of the framework, of extending the Autoloader with this functionality? I'm not necessary looking for a ready-made implementation, some pointers (This should be an extension to the xyz method that you would call like this...) would already be enough.

• How can I impersonate the current user with IronPython?

  I am trying to manage an IIS7 installation remotely using the Microsoft.Web.Administration library. I'm doing this in IronPython: import Microsoft.Web.Administration from Microsoft.Web.Administration import ServerManager manager = ServerManager.OpenRemote("RemoteServerName") for site in manager.Sites: print "Site: %(site)s" % { 'site' : site.Name } On the last line as it attempts to communicate with the remote server I get the following error: Retrieving the COM class factory for remote component with CLSID {2B72133B-3F5B-4602-8952-803546CE3344} from machine devdealernetsvr failed due to the following error: 80070005. My research into the error lead me to believe that I do not have the proper credentials against the remote machine and so I would like to impersonate a user that does. I was hard pressed to find a way to do this with IronPython. Any help is much appreciated.

• Why is 'volatile' parasitic in C++?

  Consider the following code: int main() { int i; volatile int* p = &i; int *v = p; return 0; } This gives an error in g++: $ g++ -o volatile volatile.cpp volatile.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: volatile.cpp:6: error: invalid conversion from ‘volatile int*’ to ‘int*’ My intention was that I want to make p volatile. However, once I've read the value of p, I don't care if accessing v is volatile. Why is it required that v be declared volatile? This is hypothetical code of course. In a real situation you could imagine that p points to a memory location, but is modified externally and I want v to point to the location that p pointed to at the time of v = p, even if later p is externally modified. Therefore p is volatile, but v is not. By the way I am interested in the behaviour both when this is considered C and C++, but in C this only generates a warning, not an error.

• C# Bug or Brain Teaser? Cast working only with Coalesce (??) Operator

  This is very strange, maybe someone can explain what's happening, or this is a bug (though I tend to think that this is probably just something intricate about C#). The following code throws the error "Cannot implicitly convert type 'uint?' to 'uint'.": public void Test(UInt32? p) { UInt32 x = p; } However, this code works without error: public void Test(UInt32? p) { UInt32 x = p ?? 1; } Huh? Why does this work? Why would the coalesce operator cause implicit conversion of UInt32? (nullable) to UInt32 (non-nullable), while the first error message says that there is no implicit conversion between those types?

• MinGW screw up with COLORREF and RGB

  I am trying to build a 3rd party open source project using MinGW. One of the dependencies is wxWidgets. When I try to make the project from MSYS I get a compiler error from /MinGW/msys/1.0/local/include/wx-2.8/wx/msw/private.h In function 'COLORREF wxColourToRGB(const wxColour&)': error: cannot convert 'RGB' to 'COLORREF {aka long unsigned in}' in return This is somewhat odd given that, according to Microsoft the RGB macro returns a COLORREF. In fact, looking in H:\MinGW\include I find wingdi.h with the following code #define RGB(r,g,b) ((COLORREF)((BYTE)(r)|((BYTE)(g) << 8)|((BYTE)(b) << 16))) What sort of thing would cause this error? Is there some way I can check to see if COLORREF and RGB are being included from wingdi.h and not somewhere else? Is that even worth checking? Specifications GCC version 4.7.2 wxWidgets version 2.8.12 (I'm new to C++ and MinGW specifically but generally computer and programming literate)

I see a lot of the above in the code I work with. In these cases, I always have to talk to the person who experienced the error to find out what they were doing, step through the code, and try to reproduce the error. Is there any best practices or ways I can minimize all this extra work? Should I log the parameters in each method like this? Logger.Log("Params: " + appetizer + "," + mainCourse + "," + dessert, ex); Is there a better way to log the current environment? If I do it this way, will I need to write out all this stuff for each method I have in my application? Are there any best practices concerning scenarios like this?
