• C# app that uses Excel Interop, easy switch between 2003 2007?

  I have an app written that just does really basic I/O on a spreadsheet. Read in a bunch of cells, do some sorting, and dump the output back into another spreadsheet. Works great on my machine. I have Office 2003 installed. When it runs on someone elses machine with 2007, it bombs, presumably due to the different versions of the Interop assemblies. I was hoping someone knew a way to dynamically change which/where the assembly is loaded from depending on the office version (getting the office version is easy from the registry). Sifting thru the rest of the internet, i didnt see anything to indicate that was possible :( . I tried installing the 2007 PIAs, but when i try to add a reference, they dont show up and i have no idea where to browse for them (they arent in the c:\windows\assemblies\; maybe the install didnt work). Am I going to have to get a machine with 2007 installed to build on every time i need to make updates?

  Hi guys, Looking for a bit of help with taking a dat from a DatePicker Widget and storing it in an sqlite database within the app. I have the following code: java.util.Date utilDate = null; String y = Integer.toString(date.getDayOfMonth()) + "/" + (date.getMonth()+1) + "/" + Integer.toString(date.getYear()); SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyy"); utilDate = formatter.parse(y); java.sql.Date z = new java.sql.Date(utilDate.getDate()); x = z.toString(); Log.v("The date: ", x); } Where date is the DatePicker widget. If I output the utilDate variable (i.e. the Java version of date) using logCat it seems to work fine and gives me a format like: Tue Jan 04 00:00:00 GMT 2011 which I am expecting but using the code above to get the sql version of the date, it always gives me the date 1970-01-01. I'm pretty sure the solution is very simple but I just can't see it.

Finally 1 Exiting out of the program I do not understand why IOException is caught by the outer catch block. • BeautifulSoup Parser Confusion - HTML

  I'm trying to scrape some content off another site and I'm not sure why BeautifulSoup is producing this output. It is only finding a blank space inside the match, but the real HTML contains a large amount of markup. I apologize if this is something stupid on my part. I'm new to python.   I'm building a Windows 8 Metro app (aka "Modern UI Style" or "Windows Store app") in HTML5/JavaScript consuming JSON Web Services and I'm bumping into the following issue: in which format should my JSON Web Services serialize dates for the Windows 8 Metro JSON.parse method to deserialize those in a date type? I tried: sending dates using the ISO-8601 format, (JSON.parse returns a string), sending dates such as "/Date(1198908717056)/" as explained here (same result). I'm starting to doubt that Windows 8's JSON.parse method supports dates as even when parsing the output of its own JSON.stringify method does not return a date type. Example: var d = new Date(); // => a new date var str = JSON.stringify(d); // str is a string => "\"2012-07-10T14:44:00.000Z\"" var date2 = JSON.parse(str); // date2 is a string => "2012-07-10T14:44:00.000Z"

  I'm a python guy and very new to R (so far, all I've done is copy-paste code and screen-shot the resulting, graph). I would now like to actually learn the language so that I can draw useful plots (right now, I am trying to plot this). In attempting my first plot, I came across this function call: sets_options("universe", seq(from = 0, to = 25, by = 0.1)) Now, I would like to know if I can achieve the same result by calling sets_options("universe", seq(0, 25, 0.1)) The help page for seq doesn't speak to this specifically (or I'm not reading it correctly), so I was hoping someone could shed some light on how R handles positional arguments I tried calling the function that way in R and it worked (no syntax errors, etc), but I don't know how to test the output of that function, so I'm forced to ask here

• C++ Word-Number to int

  I'm developing a program that makes basic calculations using words instead of numbers. E.g. five + two would output seven. The program becomes more complex, taking input such as two_hundred_one + five_thousand_six (201 + 5006) Through operator overloading methods, I split each number and assign it to it's own array index. two would be [0], hundred is [1], and one is [2]. Then the array recycles for 5006. My problem is, to perform the actual calculation, I need to convert the words stored in the array to actual integers. I have const string arrays such as this as a library of the words: const string units[] = { "", "one", "two", "three", "four", "five", "six", "seven", "eight", "nine" }; const string teens[] = { "ten", "eleven", "twelve", "thirteen", "fourteen", "fifteen", "sixteen", "seventeen", "eighteen", "nineteen" }; const string tens[] = { "", "", "twenty", "thirty", "forty", "fifty", "sixty", "seventy", "eighty", "ninety" }; If my 'token' array has stored in it two hundred one in index 0, 1, and 2, I'm not sure what the best way to convert these to ints would involve.

Assume its random or taken from user input (I put static vals here to keep it simple). Thanks for any help.

• How do you manage web navigation info in your application?

  I’m building an application where different users will have different menu items available to them depending on what they’ve paid for. There will also be multiple levels to the menu hierarchy. What’s the best approach to this problem? I’m assuming I need a database table that represents the menu hierarchy, including the parent-child relationships of the nodes in the navigation as well as the sorting of the items. Then another table which I use to manage whether a user is authorized to access a particular item in that table. When I render the view, I’d reference the menus, and the access rights of the user to output the menu, and I’d also need a function to check that same authorization from each controller in case a user manually types in a URL of a controller they’re not supposed to have access to. Is this the right approach? Any suggestions for caching this to prevent the constant look-ups of this type of info? I’m open to any suggestions on how you may have approached this type of requirement.

  I'm on a shared webhost where I don't have permission to edit the global bash configuration file at /ect/bashrc. Unfortunately there is one line in the global file, mesg y, which puts the terminal in tty mode and makes scp and similar commands unavailable. My local ~./bashrc includes the global file as a source, like so: # Source global definitions if [ -f /etc/bashrc ]; then . /etc/bashrc fi My current workaround uses cat and grep to output the global file, sans offending line, into a local file and use that as a source. # Source global definitions if [ -f /etc/bashrc ]; then cat /etc/bashrc | grep -v mesg > ~/.bash_global . ~/.bash_global fi Is there a way to do include a grokked file like this without the intermediate step of creating an actual file? • how to turn off percentage sign in .net/wpf?

  I would like my WPF application to display all percentages without % sign. For example 20% would be displayed as "20" but i still want to use the standard formatting for percentages (so i get the benefit of string formatter to multiply it by 100 for me) in other words, how do i get string.Format("0.00%", 0.2) to output "20" but not "20%"? Is it possible to globally define PercentSymbol as empty string for the entire application? In particular i am using ContentStringFormat in my WPF application to format the numbers and percentages. Maybe i can do it directly in WPF.

• how to combine changes tracked from several documents

  I tried to search the solution in internet, but found nothing, is there anyone who can help me? For my application, there is one document (Microsoft word), and this document is reviewed by several people in the "Track changes" mode, so the input to my application is the original document and the reviewed documents with changes (like insert/delete/comments). By this link , I know how to extract all the changes from the reviewed documents. what i want is to combine all the changes from all the reviewed documents into ONE document, and make all the changes "accepted", so the output of my application is one modified Microsoft document with all the changes (delete/insert/comment) accepted. My problem is that I don't know how to combine the changes from several documents into one single document. Anyone has an idea how to do this? Thank you very much in advance.
