• How can i initialize an array without knowing it size?

  I have a situation where i have to apply a criteria on an input array and reuturn another array as output which will have smaller size based upon the filtering criteria. Now problem is i do not know the size of filtered results, so i can not initialize the array with specific value. And i do not want it to be large size will null values because i am using array.length; later on. One way is to first loop the original input array and set a counter, and then make another loop with that counter length and initialize and fill this array[]. But is there anyway to do the job in just one loop?

• Wordpress parses wp_posts.post_content before rendering?

  I noticed that when I call the the_post() or the_content() function from my wordpress template, it automatically parses the database data to replace new lines with <br/>, wraps the text with <p> tags etc...There's probably some kind of "format" function within the_post() or the_content(). I wrote a query to directly get posts from the wp_posts. I then print it out like <?php $results = $wp->get_results($sql) foreach($results as $row) echo $row->post_content; ?> Clearly, this data is not parsed by wordpress' "format" function. What is the proper way to output this content such that it undergoes the same "formatting" functions as the_post() or the_content()?

  I'm attempting to solve a problem commonly known as the Coin problem, but using McNuggets. McNuggets come in boxes containing either 6, 9, or 20 nuggets. I want to write a python script that uses Diophantine equations to determine if a given number of McNuggets n can be exactly purchased in these groupings.   I needed to know what was in my Ruby load path, so I did this: $ ruby -e "puts $LOAD_PATH" It didn't print anything out, which I didn't expect. So I tried this: $ ruby -e "puts $:" /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8 /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/i486-linux /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/i386-linux /usr/local/lib/site_ruby /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8 /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/i486-linux /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby /usr/lib/ruby/1.8 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i486-linux /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i386-linux . Why does the second one give me the expected output and the first one doesn't? Shouldn't they be the same? I just tried it in irb, and I got the results I expected. • Stopping and Starting Apache Using PHP (!)

  Hello all, I have two problems which are related. 1) I have a batch file that contains this: net stop wampapache net start wampapache Which tries to stop and start my wamp server. When I double click the stop.bat file with the above it works successfully. When I try to run that from my PHP script, it stops the server but doesn't start it fully which I am guessing is because Apache is waiting for that PHP process to exit? function php_kill(){ exec('stop.bat', $output = array(), $return); return $return; } 2) Is there a way to restart my webserver (apache) whilst keeping session variables that PHP needs available? • How would I write a virtual CD/DVD burner that would allow programs that burn to write to ISO?

  I want to write an app that will allow a program like iTunes which normally will recognize a DVD/CD burner to recognize a virtual one and then write to it creating an ISO. I would guess to use C/C++... can someone point me in the right direction as to how this can be done? Basically it would be a virtual CD/DVD burner that would output an ISO file to the hard drive. I want to do this for both the usefulness of it as well as the challenge, just need an idea of how to approach it, have no idea how to write virtual hardware.

  Let's suppose we have a code doing something like this: int pipes[2]; pipe(pipes); pid_t p = fork(); if(0 == p) { dup2(pipes[1], STDOUT_FILENO); execv("/path/to/my/program", NULL); ... } else { //... parent process stuff } As you can see, it's creating a pipe, forking and using the pipe to read the child's output (I can't use popen here, because I also need the PID of the child process for other purposes). Question is, what should happen if in the above code, execv fails? Should I call exit() or abort()? As far as I know, those functions close the open file descriptors. Since fork-ed process inherits the parent's file descriptors, does it mean that the file descriptors used by the parent process will become unusable?

• Scripting vim to Run Perltidy on a Buffer

  At my current job, we have coding-style standards that are different from the ones I normally follow. Fortunately, we have a canned RC file for perltidy that I can apply to reformat files before I submit them to our review process. I have code for emacs that I use to run a command over a buffer and replace the buffer with the output, which I have adapted for this. But I sometimes alternate between emacs and vim, and would like to have the same capabilities there. I'm sure that this or something similar is simple and had been done and re-done many times over. But I've not had much luck finding any examples of vim-script that seem to do what I need. Which is, in essence, to be able to hit a key combo (like Ctrl-F6, what I use in emacs) and have the buffer be reformatted in-place by perltidy. While I'm a comfortable vim-user, I'm completely clueless at writing this sort of thing for vim.

  I am in the process of studying for a test, and I'm trying to work through some practice problems. I've been working on this a while now..but can't figure it out. Please take a look at the code fragment: union { int i; short x; unsigned short u; float f; } testout; testout.i=0xC0208000; Before I ask the question, can someone please explain to me how the above code works?? My guess is that testout.i=0xC0208000 puts either an int, short, unsigned short, or float and puts the result in that address. (?) The question is what prints out if we write printf("%d", testout.x)? I know we should expect digits....but I have no idea where they are getting the digits from....there is no output. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• Why are Java primitive types' modifiers `public`, `abstract`, & `final`?

  In the process of doing some reflection on Java types, I came across an oddity that I do not understand. Inspecting int for its modifiers returns public, abstract, and final. I understand public and final, but the presence of abstract on a primitive type is non-obvious to me. Why is this the case? When it's used Get() then it assigns a variable from type bytes.Buffer which it will have the value to return.   My code in asp classic, doing a mssql database query: rs.pagesize = 1000 ' this should enable paging rs.maxrecords = 0 ' 0 = unlimited maxrecords response.write "hello world 1<br>" rs.open strSql, conn response.write "hello world 2<br>" My output when there are fewer than 1000 rows returned is good. More than 1000 rows and I don't get the "hello world 2". I thought that setting pagesize sets up paging and thus allows all rows to be returned regardless of how many rows there are. Without setting pagesize, paging is not enable and the limit is 1000 rows. However my page is acting as if pagesize is not working at all. Please advise.

• Compiler: Translation to assembly

  I've written an interpreter for my experimental language and know I want to move on and write a small compiler for it. It will probably take the source, go through the same steps as the interpreter (tokenizer, parser) and then translate the source to assembly. Now my questions: Can I expect that every command in my language can be 1:1 translated to a bunch of assembly instructions? What I mean is if I will have to completely throw over the whole input program or if it is just translated to assembly per line. Which assembler should I use as output format?

  I would like to know how can I read a file byte by byte then perform some operation every n bytes. for example: Say I have a file of size = 50 bytes, I want to divide it into blocks each of n bytes. Then each block is sent to a function for some operations to be done on those bytes. The blocks are to be created during the read process and sent to the function when the block reaches n bytes so that I don`t use much memory for storing all blocks. I want the output of the function to be written/appended on a new file. This is what I've reached to read, yet I don't know it it is right: fc = new JFileChooser(); File f = fc.getSelectedFile(); FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(f); byte[] b = new byte[16]; in.read(b); I haven't done anything yet for the write process.

• matplotlib plot window won't appear

  I'm using Python 2.7.3 in 64-bit. I installed pandas as well as matplotlib 1.1.1, both for 64-bit. Right now, none of my plots are showing. After attempting to plot from several different dataframes, I gave up in frustration and tried the following first example from http://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/dev/visualization.html: INPUT: import matplotlib.pyplot as plt ts = Series(randn(1000), index=date_range ('1/1/2000', periods=1000)) ts = ts.cumsum() ts.plot() pylab.show() OUTPUT: Axes(0.125,0.1;0.775x0.8) And no plot window appeared. Other StackOverflow threads I've read suggested I might be missing DLLs. Any suggestions?
