• How do I get MSDeploy to skip specific folders and file types in folders as CCNet task

  I want MSDeploy to skip specific folders and file types within other folders when using sync. Currently I'm using CCNet to call MSDeploy with the sync verb to take websites from a build to a staging server. Because there are files on the destination that are created by the application / user uploaded files etc, I need to exclude specific folders from being deleted on the destination. Also there are manifest files created by the site that need to remain on the destination. • Twitter Bootstrap modal spans, side-by-side divs and "control-group"?

  I'm trying my best to have a good looking modal login form but for some reasons it seems that no matter how I nest divs, I cannot obtain the proper shape. What I need is a big "lock" image side-by-side with a username/password form. The best I could do adds a horizontal scroller by the modal bottom and shows the input gadgets fairly distant from the image partly hidden on the right side of the modal canvas. Inspecting with FireBug it seems that the spans in row-fluid are ok but the "control-label" and "controls" class adds way too much space on the left by width (for the labels) and margin-left (for the controls). How would you solve it? Am I doing something wrong with divs and classes nesting? • SQL Server 2005 Blocking Problem (ASYNC_NETWORK_IO)

  I am responsible for a third-party application (no access to source) running on IIS and SQL Server 2005 (500 concurrent users, 1TB data, 8 IIS servers). We have recently started to see significant blocking on the database (after months of running this application in production with no problems). This occurs at random intervals during the day, approximately every 30 minutes, and affects between 20 and 100 sessions each time. All of the sessions eventually hit the application time out and the sessions abort. The problem disappears and then gradually re-emerges. The SPID responsible for the blocking always has the following features: WAIT TYPE = ASYNC_NETWORK_IO The SQL being run is “(@claimid varchar(15))SELECT claimid, enrollid, status, orgclaimid, resubclaimid, primaryclaimid FROM claim WHERE primaryclaimid = @claimid AND primaryclaimid < claimid)”. This is relatively innocuous SQL that should only return one or two records, not a large dataset. NO OTHER SQL statements have been implicated in the blocking, only this SQL statement. This is parameterized SQL for which an execution plan is cached in sys.dm_exec_cached_plans. This SPID has an object-level S lock on the claim table, so all UPDATEs/INSERTs to the claim table are also blocked. HOST ID varies. Different web servers are responsible for the blocking sessions. E.g., sometimes we trace back to web server 1, sometimes web server 2. When we trace back to the web server implicated in the blocking, we see the following: There is always some sort of application related error in the Event Log on the web server, linked to the Host ID and Host Process ID from the SQL Session. The error messages vary, usually some sort of SystemOutofMemory. (These error messages seem to be similar to error messages that we have seen in the past without such dramatic consequences. We think was happening before, but didn’t lead to blocking. Why now?) No known problems with the network adapters on either the web servers or the SQL server. (In any event the record set returned by the offending query would be small.) Things ruled out: Indexes are regularly defragmented. Statistics regularly updated. Increased sample size of statistics on claim.primaryclaimid. Forced recompilation of the cached execution plan. Created a compound index with primaryclaimid, claimid. No networking problems. No known issues on the web server. No changes to application software on web servers. We hypothesize that the chain of events goes something like this: Web server process submits SQL above. SQL server executes the SQL, during which it acquires a lock on the claim table. Web server process gets an error and dies. SQL server session is hung waiting for the web server process to read the data set. SQL Server sessions that need to get X locks on parts of the claim table (anyone processing claims) are blocked by the lock on the claim table and remain blocked until they all hit the application time out. Any suggestions for troubleshooting while waiting for the vendor's assistance would be most welcome. Is there a way to force SQL Server to lock at the row/page level for this particular SQL statement only? Is there a way to set a threshold on ASYNC_NETWORK_IO waits only?

• Java Applet Deployment, ClassNotFoundException (primary class)

  This is driving me up the wall. I have checked and rechecked spelling and paths. I have tried just about every combination of paths, including relative, absolute, and full http paths. I continue to get the following error when trying to load a Java applet: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: AppletClient.class at sun.plugin2.applet.Applet2ClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2ClassLoader.loadCode(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager$AppletExecutionRunnable.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: AppletClient.class The HTML used to load the applet: <applet width="100" height="100" archive="applet/myapplet.jar, applet/applet_dependency.jar" code="AppletClient.class"> <param value="blahblah" name="username"> <param value="false" name="codebase_lookup"> </applet> The applet is in a relative directory, "applet", from the path of the current page. I have unzipped the jar file and can see AppletClient.class. Also, in the source of the project, it is spelled that way (casing and all). I have tried with/without the parameters. I have changed the names of the archive jars in the applet include tag just to see if I get a different error for bad file names (same error). I have manually done GETs on the jars to make sure the server is responding to the requests (it is). I have tried with and without the codebase tag, with all different varieties of paths (start getting bad "magic number" errors on those). I know that this error sometimes pops up when a dependency fails to load, so it can be misleading, but all dependencies are present, accounted for, and are fetchable via manual GETs. Between each and every attempt I always clear my cache in FireFox. These problems are reproduced in IE8 and Chrome as well. Per my Java Console from the browser, I am running Java Plug-in 1.6.0_20. This is from the same machine that I develop the applet on, which runs fine via Eclipse. Finally, I kicked on Fiddler2, and I don't see a single request for the jar files anywhere The host site is running from my Visual Studio debugger, so it's running on localhost. But I see the requests for all the other resources on Fiddler. Just... no Jars. ANYWHERE. I clear the log, cleared my browser cache, and did a ctrl-R refresh. And still, not a single Jar request on the Fiddler log. I even did a delayed write (with JS) of the applet tag after the page loaded, once all the Fiddler activity slowed down. The element gets written to the document (and I can see the 100x100 Java error window), but not a single request shows up on Fiddler. Any suggestions, before I go crawl into the corner and cry myself to sleep? • C socket: problem with connect() and/or accept() between clients. 111: Connection refused

  Hello ladies and gents, I'm having a bit of problem with accept(). I have a multiple clients and one server. The clients can connect and communicate just fine with server. But at one point, I need some clients to be directly connected to each other and I'm having a bit of difficulty there. The clients have bunch of threads going on, where one of them is handle_connection() and it has a while(1), looping forever to listen() and accept() whatever incoming connections. Whenever a client tries to connect() to other client, connect() returns an error, 111: Connection Refused. I know I have the right IP address and right port (I have specified a port just for between-client connections). The client that is waiting for connection doesn't notice anything, no new connection, nada. I copied some parts of the code, in hopes that someone can point out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for any inputs! This is all client side code. void * handle_connections(void * arg) is a thread that loops forever to accept() any incoming connections. My server has a very similar thang going on and it works very well. (not sure why it doesn't work here..)   My app will allow users to create a personalised list of events from a large list of events. I have a table view which simply displays these events, tapping on one of them takes the user to the event details view, which has a button "add to my events". In this detailed view I own the original event object, retrieved via an NSFetchedResultsController and passed to the detailed view (via a table cell, the same as the core data recipes sample). I have no trouble retrieving/displaying information from this "event". I was fetching the event in question using a NSFetchedResultsController with a NSPredicate which I was releasing after I had the results. Retrieving values from the entities returned was no problem, but when I tried to update any of them it gave the error above. It should not have been released. oustanding part of my question What is a good way to create this sub list from a list of existing items in terms of a core data model. I don't believe its any of the ways I tried here. I need to show/edit it in another table view. Perhaps there is a better way than a boolean property on each event entity? The relationship idea above doesn't seem to work here (even though I can now create it). Cheers.

• jQuery $.ajax response empty, but only in Chrome

  I've exhausted every avenue of research to solve this one so hopefully someone else will think of something I just didn't. Relatively straight forward setup, I have a html page with some javascript that makes an ajax request to a URL (in the same domain) the java web app in the background does its stuff and returns a partial html page (no html, head or body tags, just the content) which should be inserted at a particular point in the page. All sounds pretty easy and the code I have works in IE, Firefox and Safari, but not in Chrome. In Chrome the target element just ends up empty and if I look at the resource request in Chromes developer tools the response content is also empty. All very confusing, I've tried a myriad of things to solve it and I'm just out of ideas. • Separation of presentation and business logic in PHP

  I am programming my first real PHP website and am wondering how to make my code more readable to myself. The reference book I am using is PHP and MySQL Web Development 4th ed. The aforementioned book gives three approaches to separating logic and content: include files function or class API template system I haven't chosen any of these yet, as wrapping my brains around these concepts is taking some time. However, my code has become some hybrid of the first two as I am just copy-pasting away here and modifying as I go. On presentation side, all of my pages have these common elements: header, top navigation, sidebar navigation, content, right sidebar and footer. The function-based examples in the book suggest that I could have these display functions that handle all the presentation example. So, my page code will be like this: display_header(); display_navigation(); display_content(); display_footer(); However, I don't like this because the examples in the book have these print statements with HTML and PHP mixed up like this: echo "<tr bgcolor=\"".$color."\"><td><a href=\"".$url."\">" ... I would rather like to have HTML with some PHP in the middle, not the other way round. I am thinking of making my pages so that at the beginning of my page, I will fetch all the data from database and put it in arrays. I will also get the data for variables. If there are any errors in any of these processes, I will put them into error strings. Then, at the HTML code, I will loop through these arrays using foreach and display the content. In some cases, there will be some variables that will be shown. If there is an error variable that is set, I will display that at the proper position. (As a side note: The thing I do not understand is that in most example code, if some database query or whatnot gives an error, there is always: else echo 'Error'; This baffles me, because when the example code gives an error, it is sometimes echoed out even before the HTML has started...) For people who have used ASP.NET, I have gotten somewhat used to the code-behind files and lblError and I am trying to do something similar here. The thing I haven't figured out is how could I do this "do logic first, then presentation" thing so that I would not have to replicate for example the navigation logic and navigation presentation in all of the pages. Should I do some include files or could I use functions here but a little bit differently? Are there any good articles where these "styles" of separating presentation and logic are explained a little bit more thoroughly. The book I have only has one paragraph about this stuff. What I am thinking is that I am talking about some concepts or ways of doing PHP programming here, but I just don't know the terms for them yet. I know this isn't a straight forward question, I just need some help in organizing my thoughts.

• Problem with incomplete type while trying to detect existence of a member function

  I was trying to detect existence of a member function for a class where the function tries to use an incomplete type. The typedef is struct foo; typedef std::allocator<foo> foo_alloc; The detection code is struct has_alloc { template<typename U,U x> struct dummy; template<typename U> static char check(dummy<void* (U::*)(std::size_t),&U::allocate>*); template<typename U> static char (&check(...))[2]; const static bool value = (sizeof(check<foo_alloc>(0)) == 1); }; So far I was using incomplete type foo with std::allocator without any error on VS2008. However when I replaced it with nearly an identical implementation as template<typename T> struct allocator { T* allocate(std::size_t n) { return (T*)operator new (sizeof(T)*n); } }; it gives an error saying that as T is incomplete type it has problem instantiating allocator<foo> because allocate uses sizeof. GCC 4.5 with std::allocator also gives the error, so it seems during detection process the class need to be completely instantiated, even when I am not using that function at all. What I was looking for is void* allocate(std::size_t) which is different from T* allocate(std::size_t). My questions are (I have three questions, but as they are correlated , so I thought it is better not to create three separate questions). Why MS std::allocator doesn't check for incomplete type foo while instantiating? Are they following any trick which can be implemented ? Why the compiler need to instantiate allocator<T> to check the existence of the function when sizeof is not used as sfinae mechanism to remove/add allocate in the overload resolutions set? It should be noted that, if I remove the generic implementation of allocate leaving the declaration only, and specialized it for foo afterwards such as struct foo{}; template< struct allocator { foo* allocate(std::size_t n) { return (foo*)operator new (sizeof(foo)*n); } }; after struct has_alloc it compiles in GCC 4.5 while gives error in VS2008 as allocator<T> is already instantiated and explicit specialization for allocator<foo> already defined. Is it legal to use nested types for an std::allocator of incomplete type such as typedef foo_alloc::pointer foo_pointer; ? Though it is practically working for me, I suspect the nested types such as pointer may depend on completeness of type it takes. It will be good to know if there is any possible way to typedef such types as foo_pointer where the type pointer depends on completeness of foo. NOTE : As the code is not copy paste from editor, it may have some syntax error. Will correct it if I find any. Also the codes (such as allocator) are not complete implementation, I simplified and typed only the portion which I think useful for this particular problem.

• Why doesn't PHP's oci_connect return false?

  I have a situation in which we have two production databases that synchronize with one other. Server One is considered the primary. Sometimes due to maintenance or a disaster Server Two will become primary. In some of our code that means we have to manually go in and edit the server name for database connections. I find this annoying, so the last thing I wrote I put the server information for both and set up a loop. If oci_connect failed on the Server One 3 times it would move on to Server Two. If Server Two failed 3 times it would notify the user a connection couldn't be made. This has worked fine most times we've had the situation of switching the servers. Yesterday, for example, it worked fine. Today it didn't. It just sat and spun endlessly. No error in the PHP error log. No failure to move on from. No error output to the screen. Nothing for 5 minutes. So then I had to manually edit the stupid config file. I asked what could possibly be different and I was told "yesterday the database was down, but not the server. today the server is down." Okay...? But I don't see a distinction. I would expect oci_connect to return false if it can't establish any sort of communication with the server. I'd expect it to timeout and error. Not just pass it on when it receives an error code from the server. What if there's a network problem, for example? Is this a bug in oci_connect or is there a possibility that something in our PHP configuration gives oci_connect a crazily long timeout? If it is a sort of "bug" is there some way I can check to see if the server is up first? Like a ping? (Of course when I did a ping through the command prompt I got a response from Server One and then was told, "it's back now" although I am skeptical about the timing on that.)   I'm trying to build a compound control in Android, containing (among other things) a ScrollView. Things go wrong when I try to view the control in Eclipse, crashing with a NullPointerException after the error message: "Parser is not a BridgeXmlBlockParser". Stacktrace: java.lang.NullPointerException at android.view.View.<init>(View.java:1720) at android.view.ViewGroup.<init>(ViewGroup.java:277) at android.widget.FrameLayout.<init>(FrameLayout.java:83) at android.widget.ScrollView.<init>(ScrollView.java:128) at android.widget.ScrollView.<init>(ScrollView.java:124) at android.widget.ScrollView.<init>(ScrollView.java:120) at my.compound.control.StringPicker.onMeasure(StringPicker.java:46) ... I've traced the error to the following conditions: The NPE is thrown because a Context.obtainStyledAttributes() call returns null when the attrs argument passed is null. This only applies to the BridgeContext implementation used in Eclipse, which expects attrs to be an instance of the BridgeXmlBlockParser. The attrs argument is null because I create the ScrollView using the (Context) constructor. There is a workaround of course, which is passing the attrs I receive when Eclipse constructs the compound control, but I don't want all the attributes set on the compound control to apply to my inner control. Am I doing something wrong, is this a bug in Android Eclipse, ...?

• Using parameters in reports for VIsual Studio 2008

  This is my first attempt to create a Visual Studio 2008 report using parameters. I have created the dataset and the report. If I run it with a hard-coded filter on a column the report runs fine. When I change the filter to '?' I keep getting this error: No overload for method 'Fill' takes '1' argument Obviously I am missing some way to connect the parameter on the dataset to a report parameter. I have defined a report parameter using the Report/Report Parameter screen. But how does that report parameter get tied to the dataset table parameter? Is there a special naming convention for the parameter? I have Googled this a half dozen times and read the msdn documentation but the examples all seem to use a different approach (like creating a SQL query rather then a table based dataset) or entering the parameter name as "=Parameters!name.value" but I can't figure out where to do that. One msdn example suggestted I needed to create some C# code using a SetParameters() method to make the connection. Is that how it is done? If anyone can recommend a good walk-through I'd appreciate it. Edit: After more reading it appears I don't need report parameters at all. I am simply trying to add a parameter to the database query. So I would create a text box on the form, get the user's input, then apply that parameter programmatically to the fill() argument list. The report parameter on the other hand is an ad-hoc value generally entered by a user that you want to appear on the report. But there is no relationship between report parameters and query/dataset parameters. Is that correct?

• ReSharper - Possible Null Assignment when using Microsoft.Contracts

  Is there any way to indicate to ReSharper that a null reference won't occur because of Design-by-Contract Requires checking? For example, the following code will raise the warning (Possible 'null' assignment to entity marked with 'NotNull' attribute) in ReSharper on lines 7 and 8: private Dictionary<string, string> _Lookup = new Dictionary<string, string>(); public void Foo(string s) { Contract.Requires(!String.IsNullOrEmpty(s)); if (_Lookup.ContainsKey(s)) _Lookup.Remove(s); } What is really odd is that if you remove the Contract.Requires(...) line, the ReSharper message goes away. Update I found the solution through ExternalAnnotations which was also mentioned by Mike below. Here's an example of how to do it for a function in Microsoft.Contracts: Create a directory called Microsoft.Contracts under the ExternalAnnotations ReSharper directory. Next, Create a file called Microsoft.Contracts.xml and populate like so: <assembly name="Microsoft.Contracts"> <member name="M:System.Diagnostics.Contracts.Contract.Requires(System.Boolean)"> <attribute ctor="M:JetBrains.Annotations.AssertionMethodAttribute.#ctor"/> <parameter name="condition"> <attribute ctor="M:JetBrains.Annotations.AssertionConditionAttribute.#ctor(JetBrains.Annotations.AssertionConditionType)"> <argument>0</argument> </attribute> </parameter> </member> </assembly> Restart Visual Studio, and the message goes away!
