• Linq to Entities and LEFT OUTER JOIN issue with MANY:1 relations

  Can somebody tell me, why does Linq to Entities translate many to 1 relationships to left outer join instead of inner join? Because there's referential constraint on DB itself that ensures there's a record in the right table, so inner join should be used instead (and it would work much faster) If relation was many to 0..1 left outer join would be correct. Question Is it possible to write LINQ in a way so it will translate to inner join rather than left outer join. It would speed query execution a lot... I haven't used eSQL before, but would it be wise to use it in instead of LINQ? Edit I updated my tags to include technology I'm using in the background: Entity Framework V1 Devart dotConnect for Mysql MySql database If someone could test if the same is true on Microsoft SQL server it would also give me some insight if this is Devart's issue or it's a general L2EF functionality... But I suspect EF is the culprit here.

  I have a lot of embedded C/C++/Ada experience and an outdated smattering of Delphi plus some database stuff. Now I have to implement an app in Delphi which can manipulate MySql, Oracle, maybe MS Acess. In short, I need ODBC. I need to programatically created a database, define its structure and populate its contents, then later query its existence and programatically search. I would prefer not to use 3rd party components, unless there is a compelling reason to do so (performance ought not to be an issue for the app, it won't have much data or be run often, at least not in v1.0) . Can anyone point me at a tutorial which can get me up to speed? Thanks

  Is it possible to have support for enabling DataModelSelection on a list page paginated via EntityQuery? (All the examples load the list by performing a query on the @Factory method). But, I would like to re-use the existing pagination mechanism and just enable the ability to support DataModelSelection on it. I am also assuming that DataModelSelection is capable of tracking a single row in a List, how do we extend this to support a certain action (say deletion, activation ...) of multiple rows. I am a newbie and would appreciate any help on this topic. I have already gone through the samples shipped as part of Seam (booking, message). I have already posted this in seam users forum, but I am yet to get a response

  Hi Guys, I can't seem to retrieve ALL videos from a particular channel on YouTube, despite the API giving example code that should perform just that. I'm using Java. http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/GoogleDevelopers/uploads The above rss feed is the URL they suggest using along with the following sample code.. /*init the list*/ String feedUrl = "http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/GoogleDevelopers/uploads"; VideoFeed videoFeeder = null; videoFeeder = serviceobject.getFeed(new URL(feedUrl), VideoFeed.class); Looping this with a for loop suggests 25 entries (as per the RSS). However - the actual number of videos uploaded is significantly larger. (662 at time of writing). My query is how on earth you retrieve everything with the API, not just a subset of the data.   So, I am learning Javascript while playing white Google Calendar APIs and I just can't figure how this piece of code is working this way: var entriesResult = []; var data = new Date(2010,3,22,17,0,0); var callback = function(result) { var entries = result.feed.getEntries(); if (entries.length != 0) { entriesResult = eventsManager(entries, 0, data); window.alert("inner entriesResult " + entriesResult.length); } } this.service.getEventsFeed(this.query, callback, handleGDError); window.alert("outer entriesResult " + entriesResult.length); eventsManager() is a function that returns an array of Objects. getEventsFeed() it's an API function: it queries the service and pass a "feed root" (a feed with selected items) to the callback function. Why the first alert (inner..) outputs a valid entriesResult.length while the second one (outer..) always outputs a 0? I tought javascript arrays are always passed by reference, what's wrong whit my code? Thank you :)

• Safari will not redirect to querystring URL

  I have a site built with PHP that does a redirect after certain actions are performed. header("Location: http://example.com/accountArea/?v=updated"); I then show a message based on the value of the query string value. In safari (and only in Safari) after the redirect, you will only see a blank page. I have tried using absolute URL and relative URL in my redirect, neither work. I was unable to find a solution by searching the web so I hope someone here is familiar with this.

• UISearchbar clearButton forces the keyboard to appear

  I have a UISearchBar which acts as a live filter for a table view. When the keyboard is dismissed via endEditing:, the query text and the gray circular "clear" button remain. From here, if I tap the gray "clear" button the keyboard reappears as the text is cleared. How do I prevent this? If the keyboard is not currently open I want that button to clear the text without reopening the keyboard. There is a protocol method that gets called when I tap the clear button. But sending the UISearchBar a resignFirstResponder message doesn't have any effect on the keyboard.

  Hi, I have disabled log shipping on a SQL 2005 database and deleted the log shipping DB on the secondary server. However i cannot delete the LSRestore_DB___ job, either by T-SQL (sp_delete_log_shipping_primary_secondary, sp_delete_job) or using the management studio on the secondary server. It just wont go. The query keeps on executing for a good 7 hours. Tried disabling, still doesn't delete. Restarted the server too. Also tried the Can anyone help me delete this SQL job please ? Many Thanks

I need to write a query that finds all tags for a given ItemCategory, preferably with a single call to the database, as this is going to get called fairly often. I've looked at Group and Join, but I'm not getting anywhere so any help would be greatly appreciated!

  What is the best way of working with calculated fields of Propel objects? Say I have an object "Customer" that has a corresponding table "customers" and each column corresponds to an attribute of my object. What I would like to do is: add a calculated attribute "Number of completed orders" to my object when using it on View A but not on Views B and C. The calculated attribute is a COUNT() of "Order" objects linked to my "Customer" object via ID. What I can do now is to first select all Customer objects, then iteratively count Orders for all of them, but I'd think doing it in a single query would improve performance. But I cannot properly "hydrate" my Propel object since it does not contain the definition of the calculated field(s). How would you approach it?

  I am in a group of people who are creating a Defect Tracking program as a project. We have been using Active Objects and have run into some issues. Currently maximum file size for the blob is approx. 2Mb but we want to be able to increase it up to 2Gb. We currently have been looking at many sites and have not been able to find out how to increase the size. We are currently storing the blob as an array of bytes. Our current error says, Packet for Query is too large? We don't know how to set the variable, and we don't know how to set it using AO. We are programming this in Java, too.   I have a TClientDataSet connected to a TDataSetProvider, which in turn is connected to a TAdsTable. I set the SQL command and then open the ClientDataset something like this: try CDS.CommandText := 'SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE fieldname = 1'; CDS.Open except // trap exception here - this never gets executed! end; If the SQL statement in CommandText fails, however (syntax error or whatever) I get an exception within the Advantage code, but it never gets caught in my own exception handling code. Is there any way for me to trap this error and report it nicely to the user. Alternatively is there a way to verify the syntax of an SQL query before executing it? I'm using Delphi Pro 2009, and Advantage Local Server 9.
