I have capped data which is essentially free between midnight and 5am. As a result, I would like to set Ubuntu to automatically download updates over that time. It seems that cron-apt is what I need, but the documentation and syntax is sketchy and unintuitive. Can anyone tell me how to use it to schedule downloads?
It can install the updates at the same time as far as I'm concerned, but that's not such a big issue - I can run those at a later stage.
I have an old computer that can't handle a boot stick install, so i have to create an actual, old fashioned boot CD.
However, the image size for Ubuntu 12.04 is 732MB, which is too large for a CD, which can hold only 700MB.
The maintainers of Ubuntu 12.04 say the image size will never go over 700MB, and indeed, the download size seemed to be 689MB.
Brasero says it won't burn the CD because the file is too big, what's going on?

SEO Search Engine Optimization is a set of methods that is used to get your website ready as per the rules and regulations of search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Folks, I have two separate classes. One of them makes http requests/receives response to/from a server and the second one converts received JSON objects into my models (separate classes). I'm thinking it would be an idea to include this class for data converting as an inner class of my first class. Wouldn't my first class be extra big because of it and I need to leave everything as is or this is a good common practice to behave like that?
There are a lot of questions about what programming books should be on the programmer's bookshelf. How about non-programming related books that can help you become a better programmer or developer? It would also be interesting to know why they would help.
My first choice would be Sun Tzu's "Art of War" (however cliché), because it made it obvious that the success of any project depends on the strength of its weakest link (and warfare is a big project).

With mobile technologies becoming increasingly popular what is happening on the server-side with most of these apps when they need to communicate with a back end?
I'm used to the world of technology from 10 years ago when most resources were accessed by requesting a dynamic web page that behind the seen used a server-side language to get the information it needed from a relational database.
Is this still the case, and if not, what are the big changes?
At annual RSA security show, Big Blue unveils enterprise IT security suite that includes products to secure operations from application code all the way through deployment.
I'm not a big fan of the Software Center icon (apparently I'm not the only one: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/09/software-centre-icon-proposal).
Is there a way change it?
The answers to this related question doesn't make it clear whether there is:
How to change the Dash icon in the Unity Launcher?
As far as I can see the Software Center icon isn't in nautilus /usr/share/unity/5/ so where could it be?

My team has a GitHub organization account. A lot of the work I do results in one-off scripts that we want to be able to have on our organization page, but that aren't big enough projects to justify their own repository.
Is there any way to associates Gists with GitHub organization accounts? If not, what's the best way to 'check-in' or associate smaller scripts into Github's shared organizational repository?

Can you name the most useful programs for small business you've seen?
This comprises small programs (not big open source projects). I'm referring to tools that have done something different and extremely useful that a normal office suite could not.
As a developer, I'm looking to propose more products to small businesses clients.
In other words, What 'we developers' can do better than standard tools?
So I've been having some trouble recently with Ubuntu and decided it was time to switch to windows. But I have no ntfs partitions on my hard disk and GParted will not let me resize my one large partition (/dev/sda1) so that I can allocate some ntfs space to install windows on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've had this problem for quite some time now and it had just become one big headache.
Thanks in advance!
<b>Click:</b> "It's not usually a big deal, getting sound working in Linux or BSD. In my case, however, my laptop's internal sound module is dead, and I've substituted a USB sound module from DealExtreme.com that costs about $2."
Many people create websites or blogs in order to gain rank and higher page rank. Ranking is meant here is the big ten positions in search engine results. The higher the position of your website, the more visitors you will get.

I'm starting a project on web monitoring where other websites can be monitored.
Recently, I have found codeIgniter, yii, kohana frameworks online, but I'm confused as to whether to choose any of those or start directly.
Moreover, this is my first big project that I'm planning for. So can anyone give me suggestions on how to start, how to plan, what books to refer to, to start this kind of web application and share some links to understand for myself on how to work on this project?
I am having very big problems trying to get this going for my old laptop. I tried burning the iso image with 5 different iso burning programs and none of the disks worked none started up. Then I tried to do the USB way used the program that puts it on the usb for you it starts up on my laptop fine but will not start up on my compaq presario 2178cl. If any1 can help me with this problem I would be much appreciative ty for your time.
Is there an option somewhere in CDT (Juno) where I can set customized "Release" configurations for my projects?
All I want to do for now is to be able to create a new C++ project and have by default the -std=c++11 and -std=gnu11options for the compilers and -s for the linker, and maybe a few other optimization flags. It's not a big hassle to do it every time for every new program, but I was just wondering, since I've been creating a lot of small programs to get to know C++ better.
