• ASP.NET application developed in 32 bit environment not working in 64 bit environment

  We have developed an ASP.NET website on a Windows 7 - 32 bit platform using Visual Studio 2008. This website is being hosted at a hosting company where we share a server with hundreds of other ASP.NET websites. We are in the process of changing our hosting to a dedicated Windows 2008 - 64 bit server. We have installed Visual Studio on this new server in order to debug our application. If we try to start the application on this new server using Visual Studios 2008's own web server (not IIS 7) we get the error below. We have tried to compile the application in both 32 as well as 64 bit mode. We also tried to compile to "Any CPU". But nothing helps. We also tried running Visual Studio as an administrator but without success. We get the following error: Server Error in '/' Application. The specified module could not be found. • How can I detect a debugger or other tool that might be analysing my software?

  A very simple situation. I'm working on an application in Delphi 2007 which is often compiled as 'Release' but still runs under a debugger. And occasionally it will run under SilkTest too, for regression testing. While this is quite fun I want to do something special... I want to detect if my application is running within a debugger/regression-tester and if that's the case, I want the application to know which tool is used! (Thus, when the application crashes, I could report this information in it's error report.) Any suggestions, solutions?

  Hi, We're currently looking at an IT upgrade and I'm after recommendations for a tool which can do some or all of the following. SVN management (authz, web viewer, commit log, diff) Create template projects (1 click e.g. create me a microsite with this name in svn and give these people access) Reporting on code churn, time spent on tasks on a per project basis User story management Basically like Team Foundation Server but that integrates with SVN properly (reason for this - we have a wide range of skill sets and not everyone can use a TFS client). Is there a combination of Trac plugins + something that can create trac instances (a la Dreamhost's admin panel) that can acheive this. On a side note, does anyone have any experience of version controlling designery type files - e.g. PSDs, Illustrator files. Any advice at all appreciated. Cheers, Rob

  Our web app offers a service that allows a "Publisher" to create a website (we give them a CMS system) that is ready to provide this service to "Members" (think Shopify). We have some possible clients that wish to become "Publishers" but they already have existing websites (vbulletin, word press blog, etc) with their own user base. We wish to develop an API that would allow these "Publishers" to keep using their own websites, and embed our services into them. Our main business requirement is that once "Members" are logged into the "Publishers" existing system, they should be able to also access our website without having to log-in again OR have to create another account there. The process should be seamless to the "Member" and "Publishers" should not have to sync their user base with our system. We also want to use an existing API authentication/authorization system instead of creating our own (OAuth, OpenID, etc) What would be the best way to use OAuth to achieve this sigle-sign on design? If OAuth is not the best tool, is there any other one out there that fits our requirements?

  I've working without problems serializating object graphs to and from files. Everything was fine until today: A dictionary, created in a constructor and NEVER deleted, was lost (null referece) just after deserialization from file, for the first time in more than a year doing the same without troubles. So, is there a Software Tool to look into binary serialization content showing a human/developer-readable version (a la Reflector) of what is stored? AKA: How to analyze (easy, no binary to IL translation. That would take months) binary serialized content? Thanks!

• What Web design tool would make a good CityDesk replacement?

  I am looking for a tool for building static template-based web sites, your typical brochure-ware for a non-profit or a personal site. I have used CityDesk, but that is out-of-date, unsupported, and has certain problems. Of course there are lots of tools out there, but I cannot find anything similar to CityDesk: WYSIWYG as well as HTML coding a templating system not overdesigned like, say, Dreamweaver built for developers who understand HTML/JS/CSS but easier to use than hand-coding of PHP, Ruby, or other templates in a text editor supporting the editing of pages by non-developers preferably free I'd also like it to be CSS-aware; and to have lots of free templates available. Or alternatively, static template-based sites are often developed nowadays on the Web using a CMS like Django; is that the way to go? Edit: Namo, DreamWeaver, NetObjects Fusion, Coffee Cup, Evrsoft First Page, and Microsoft Expression might be candidates. I'll appreciate comments on these based on the criteria above.

• Tool used to retrieve code metrics in xUnit Test Patterns?

  I'm reading xUnit Test Patterns by Gerard Meszaros. On one of the pages he refers to some software metrics: While the need to wrap lines to keep them at 65 characters makes this code look even longer than it really is, it is still unnecessarily long. It contains 25 executable statements including initialized declarations, 6 lines of control statements, 4 in-line comments, and 2 lines to declare the test method—giving a total of 37 lines of unwrapped source code. Short of counting the statements to find these metrics, does anybody have any idea if he used a particular tool to calculate the metrics? (If you have any suggestions for tools that will count similar metrics, I'm looking for one that works on Java, Javascript and C++) Thanks!

  Hello, Many UML tools claim to do forward / reverse engineering of Java code. However, it turns out from prior experience, that few tools really work in this area. I haven't been doing Java projects for 3 years, and want to get up to date with the current status in this area. In Particular I am interested in Creating State Machine Skeletons from Diagram, be able to create hooks to my own code, and be able to reverse engineer the State Diagram back (Do not want to change the State Machine itself outside the Tool). • Is there a free code coverage tool suitable for use with .NET 4 and NUnit?

  Is there a free code coverage tool suitable for use with .NET 4 and NUnit that runs from the command line (and is thus suitable for use on a build server)? Please note that any tools that require editions of Visual Studio higher than Professional are not appropriate in this case. I am asking this question because I can't get NCover 1.5.8 to work with NUnit 2.5.5 on a .NET 4 C# app. I can run the unit tests, and I can generate a Coverage.Xml file, but it is empty - it contains no sequence points. After a lot of research, I have concluded that this is because NCover 1.5.8 simply doesn't work with .NET 4. However, if you know better, please feel free to answer this question from another user.

• "Mail merge"-like functionality in Dreamweaver, or in any other web editing tool?

  I have inherited several related, low-traffic web sites to manage and edit. These sites are implemented with static html, and they've accrued lots of stray tags and other cruft. I want to try to clean these up and migrate them to some common page template framework to simplify design and data changes and improve overall consistency. The pages will change on the timescale of weeks, and since the current web hosting plan does not support any dynamic server technologies, I was hoping to just use Dreamweaver or some other tool to merge my content data with some templating structure. I'd like to do content updates every several days and then run the content back through my templates, resulting in new static html that I can upload to the host. Do any tools support this kind of poor-man's data-driven web application? Are there better ways to approach this problem, aside from moving to a new hosting plan and using ASP.NET or PHP?

What is that syntax even called (so I can scour google)? Even better.. Is there a tool/script that will do this conversion for me (Preferred Free)? An optimizer of some sort? I have around 500 of these queries to port.. When was this standard phased out? Any info is appreciated.

  I have a .NET app which runs once a day. Sometimes there's a logical error somewhere which occurs randomly. Is there a tool like Eqatec's Tracer which automatically injects instrumentation in the code and logs everything to a file? The issue with Eqatec's Tracer is that it opens a window on the machine and it doesn't seem to log. My issue rarely occurs and I need to keep all logs for a long time. I don't want to change the source code and add logging statements all over the place. I am aware of PostSharp & Logfaces.

• Custom component creation - how to add small icon representing component in Tool Palette?

  Please bear in mind that I've read all the instructions I could find about adding component icon to my custom component. And I am able to do this when we talk about the icon size which is 24x24 pixels. I see the icon when a component is dropped on the form. However I can not see the small 16x16 icon which should be displayed when browsing Tool Palette. I've read that I should name my two other BMP files which are contained in DCR file like this: MyComponentName16 [for 16x16 BMP file] MyComponentName32 [for 32x32 BMP file] Unfortunately this does not seem to work, I've tried to restart Delphi few times in hope that it might be the case of not refreshing something, but without any success. Any ideas?

  Oftentimes I want to query my MySQL data directly without a server running or without having access to the server (but having read / write rights to the files). Is there a tool or maybe even a library around to query MySQL data files like it is possible with SQLite? I'm specifically looking for InnoDB and MyISAM support. Performance is not a factor.   Dear ladies and sirs. I love the Go to Reflector menu option installed by TD.NET. However, TD.NET is not free for commercial use and so I do not have it at work. I am wondering if there is another tool out there that does just that - allows to jump to Reflector from the source code in VS and which is totally free.   I was wondering if it's possible to access the ASP.NET Configuration Tool once a site is live. To be able to create and edit users and roles is obviously very important, and from what I've been reading, once a site is deployed, the Configuration Tool is no longer accessible. If this is the case, HOW do I add users, etc.? By the way, I found a User Management plugin which brings a lot of the Configuration Tool's capabilities to the front end of a User Management section of the deployed website, but it DOES NOT offer the capability to add a new user.   When trying to execute a .NET-App, it throws a "PolicyException", because "only one group is allowed". The tool should list existing settings, and allow to delete selected settings. Using caspol to list is not helpful, it is cruel. I've seen there is a simple gui-frontend, which allows to define NEW settings, but it does not allow to list or delete existing settings. Caspol is a nightmare, no wonder anyone uses it by choice. With .NET 1.1 Microsoft delivered a configuration-utility, but for .NET 2.0 i've found nothing.

• Code generation tool, to create C# adapter classes for unit testing?

  I know I wouldn't need this with Typemock, however, with something like MoQ , I need to use the adapter pattern to enable the creation of mocks via interfaces for code I don't control. For example, TcpClient is a .NET class, so I use adapter pattern to enable mocking of this object, b/c I need an interface of that class. I then produce interface ITcpClient, that can then be implemented via a TcpClientAdapter class, which is just plain vanilla adapter pattern implementation. I am looking for a tool to do this automatically (creation of interface and adapter), I would think there is one out there somewhere? (or is everyone just hand coding these)

• Is there a tool that will show diagrams of my SQL database in real-time?

  I've created some diagrams of SQL tables using the "Reverse Engineer" feature of Microsoft Office Visio. I like being able to visualize my relational databases in this manner. However, what I get is just a static document that I can print, e-mail to colleagues, and click widgets on. Earlier this year, I saw at a demo that the new version of Visual Studio 2010 has a new feature called the "Architect Explorer", which allows developers to view relationships among .net classes on the fly. It has many features for filtering the data that the developer is interested in. It would be really awesome if I could visually browse my tables and stored procedures and see what is related to what by primary key, foreign key, and referenced in stored procedures. I realize that I'm talking about two entirely different technologies and it's not a perfect analogy, but is there some similar tool that would allow me to visualize tables in my SQL database?
