• Mdi Children Changed in .Net

  Hi Is there a simple way of tracking the change of an Mdi's children i.e. when they are created and closed, something like an event OnMdiChildListChanged (I realise this doesn't actually exist). I am also aware that I could have a method within my Mdi that handles the creation of child forms and logs the state of them or even create an Interface that defines that a child form has a "NotifyParent" method that is then called on close of the form, but i was wondering if there was any built in events that i could plumb into?   I have a checkbox that belongs to "Foo" class. I have another "Preferences" class that sets the default for what that checkbox should be. I tried using f.check_box :email_preference, :value => preferences.email_preference but it doesn't work. I use this page to do new record creation as well as edit, so obviously for new records I would want to take the preferences.email_preference setting as a default, then for editing the record use the foo.email_preference. Any suggestions?

  By what i understand String and StringBuilder objects both allocate contiguous memory underneath. My program runs for days buffering several output in a String object. This sometimes cause outofmemoryexception which i think is because of non availability of contiguous memory. my string size can go upto 100MBs and i m concatenating new string frequently this causes new string object being allocated. i can reduce new string object creation by using Stringbuilder but that would not solve my problem entirely Is there an alternative to a contiguous string object?

  I often have to modify files such as sysctl.conf, and I'm familiar with using sed to replace existing values. Is there a way to append the new key/value pair to the file if sed wasn't able to replace it? For instance, using this example: modify config file using bash script sed -c -i "s/\($TARGET_KEY *= *\).*/\1$REPLACEMENT_VALUE/" $CONFIG_FILE How could I add the $TARGET_KEY = $REPLACEMENT_VALUE new line to $CONFIG_FILE using the same sed expression with slight changes? And on a related topic, how can I force creation of $CONFIG_FILE if it didn't exist?

The man page (man 2 umask) states: umask -- set file creation mode mask This clearing allows each user to restrict the default access to his files But is not clear to me why would do that? as a shortcut ?
