Exception when ASP.NET attempts to delete network file.

Greetings - I've got an ASP.NET application that is trying to delete a file on a network share. The ASP.NET application's worker process is running under a domain account (confirmed this by looking in TaskManager and by using ShowContexts2.aspx¹). I've been assured by the network admins that the process account is a member of a group that has Modify permissions to the directory that contains the file I'm trying to delete. However, it is unable to do so, and instead I get an exception (changed the file path to all x's): System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. --- System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\xxxxxx.xxx' is denied. C Differences on windows and Unix OS

Is there any difference in C that is written in Windows and Unix. I teach C as well as C++ but some of my students have come back saying some of the sample programs does not run for them in Unix. Unix is alien for me. Unfortunately no experience with it whatsoever. All i know is to spell it. If there are any differences then i should be advising our department to invest on systems for Unix as currently there are no Unix systems in our lab. I do not want my students to feel that they have been denied or kept aloof from something.

I have often fought the urge to ask questions that I know aren't appropriate on SO, because I personally haven't come across another online group who's opinions I would trust as much. What sites do you frequent that you have found good participation from a smart group of people where you can ask questions that are related to software, but not programming problems? This community also has a vast depth of knowledge about things related to software like marketing, graphics/UI, running a small business, working in bad jobs, etc. that would greatly benefit everyone else. Where do we go to tap all that knowledge? On stackoverflow.uservoice.com there is a popular suggested feature to sanction, or add to SO, a place to hold discussions that aren't about specific programming questions. It seems that the suggestion has been denied in the past though.

Windows Server 2008 R2: ASP queries to IIS fail with UAC enabled

I have some ASP code that creates a virtual directory in IIS. However, when running on IIS7 in Windows Server 2008 R2, the call to GetObject fails with "permission denied". This only occurs when UAC is enabled; the entire process works perfectly if UAC is disabled. Set objIIS = GetObject("IIS://localhost/W3SVC/" & siteNumber & "/Root") siteNumber itself is a valid parameter (as the system works fine if UAC is off). Any ideas of a workaround I can make for this? Unfortunately turning off UAC at this point is not an option.

How to work with NServiceBus in gateway mode

I've been trying to get the pubsub sample in the NServiceBus download to work in a gateway mode. I haven't really been able to find out much detail at all about how to get NServiceBus to run in gateway mode. How do I setup the publisher/server in gateway mode? When I did try I received an access denied exception which would either be due to the account I'm running it under or I'm missing something. How do I setup the subscribers/clients to communicate to the gateway? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

run windows command from bash with output to standard out?

Folks, I'm using git tools such as git bisect run which need to call a command to build and test my project. My command to do is nant which is a windows program. Or a build.cmd script which calls nant. It's easy to get the bash to call the nant build to run. But the hard part is how to get the standard output written to a file? I even installed the Windows PowerShell to try running a command from bash. Again, it works but the standard output fill says "permission denied" when I try to read it while the build is going on.

cross domain access in iframe from parent to child

Hi, Could someone please help me with this- I've 2 applications AAA and BBB. The homepage of AAA contains an iFrame which displays the application BBB. When I login to AAA, the same login details should be used to login to BBB(single signon) and on pageload of the homepage of AAA, homepage of BBB should also be loaded in the iFrame. I tried to use javascript to access the form elements of login page of BBB to enter the login data and submit. But the browser gives me a 'Access is denied' error. I did a little reading and came to know that cross- domain communication is not allowed by the browser. Could someone tell me how i can go about achieving this?

Integrate openid4java to GWT Project

JQuery - Form Submission

Hello, I have a web page that has a DIV and an IFRAME. When a user clicks a button in my DIV, I need to submit the web form that is hosted in my IFRAME. Both pages are hosted on the same server in the same directory. My code that attempts to submit the web form looks like this: $("#myIFrame").contents().find("form").submit(); When this code is called, I receive an error in IE that says: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" In FireFox when I execute the code, I receive an error that says: "The connection was reset" In FireFox when I look at the error console I see: "Error: Permission denied for http://localhost:2995 to get property HTMLDocument.nodeType from ." What am I doing wrong?

Calling a protected Windows executable with Perl

I'm trying to write a perl script that determines which users are currently logged into Windows by using query.exe (c:\Windows\system32\query.exe). Perl is unable to access this file, unable to execute it, even unable to see that it exists, as I've found with the following code: print `dir c:\\windows\\system32\\query*`; This produces the following output: 07/13/2009 05:16 PM 1,363,456 Query.dll 1 File(s) 1,363,456 bytes 0 Dir(s) 183,987,658,752 bytes free I've checked the user executing the script using perl's getlogin function, and it returns the name of a member of the local Administrators group (specifically, me). I've also tried adding read/execute permissions for "Everyone", but windows keeps giving me access denied errors when I try to modify this file's permissions. Finally, I've tried running perl.exe as an administrator but that doesn't fix the problem either. Is this something I can solve by changing some settings in Windows? Do I need to add something to my perl script? Or is there just no way to grant perl access to some of these processes?

My HttpHandler doesn't want to create directory on a network

I use this simple line of code inside my HttpHandler: Directory.CreateDirectory(@"\\srv-001\dev\folderToCreate\"); I receive an UnauthoridezAccessException telling me that the access to the path is denied. From here, I create a little Dos application in C# doing the same thing and I was able to create the folder. So, I thought that it might be that IIS is running on a different user than myself. I went to IIS and changed the Application pool to a Custom user, myself. But, unfortunately, I got the same exception. I have try to create a Share folder on my computer and I can create directory. Also, when debugging I can see that System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity have its AuthenticationType to "", IsAuthenticated to false and name to "". So, with all those tests I can conclude that the HttpHandler that receive the file cannot create a directory because of some security access. How can I grand access to my HttpHandler to be able to create a directory (and files) to a network folder?

SQL Select Permissions

I have a database that I need to connect to and select from. I have an SQL Login, let's call it myusername. When I use the following, no SELECT permission shows up: SELECT * FROM fn_my_permissions ('dbo.mytable', 'OBJECT') GO Several times I tried things like: USE mydatabase GO GRANT SELECT TO myusername GO GRANT SELECT ON DATABASE::mydatabase TO myusername GO GRANT SELECT ON mytable TO myusername GO It says the queries execute successfully, but there is never any difference in the first query. What simple thing am I missing to grant database level select permissions. As a note, I made double sure it was the correct user, correct database, and I have already tried granting table level select permissions. So far I keep getting the error: SELECT permission denied on object 'mytable', database 'mydatabase', schema 'dbo'. Any ideas what I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

iPhone filesystem permissions POSIX-compliant?

Hi all, I'm trying to pass some files from one app to another. I communicate the path (via a custom URL). The target application cannot read the file, citing errno 13 (permission denied). I've checked the permissions on file - they're 0644 (O+R), the permissions on directories all the way up to the root are 755 (O+RX). From a POSIX perspective, the file should be readable to any process and any user. Yet it's not. Any ideas, please? I can think of some workarounds. I could use a Web service (upload, get a cookie, communicate the cookie to the other app, other app downloads). I could also pass the actual file data in the URL - unelegant, and probably subject to length limitations. Clipboard is not supported on iPhone OS 2 IIRC.

I was wondering how could I reload any website using javascript and set it in a way that when it reloads the scrollbar is looking scrolled down to a certain position. I'm unsure as to how to look for this in Google honestly so I haven't digged up much =/. IIS 7.5 powershell module usage issues

Has anyone managed to use this module with success, i'm running 32bit Windows 7, where i have opened an administrator shell using run as administrator, i have imported the WebAdministration module and then attempted to use the commands with some issues, have provided two examples here Websites I created a web site with the following command new-website -name testsite -port 80 -hostheader testsite -physicalpath c:\temp Then i attempted to get the sites details using the command get-website -name testsite but it always returns all sites, seems to ignore the -name parameter. Only way i can get the site is using a filter get-website | ? { $_.name -eq 'testsite' } | get-member When i use appcmd it works as expected using the following command C:\> C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list site testsite AppPools When i try to list the apppools using the following command dir iis:\apppools i get the following error Get-ChildItem : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) Yet when i use appcmd as follows i get all the apppools as expected without any error C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list apppool Has anyone successfully managed to use the WebAdministration module ? HTTP Error 403.1 - Permissions are fixed, what else is wrong?

I have developed a HTTP Handler Web Service, and have had it successfully deployed, through testing on other environments i've ran into another problem. This is the error message I receive: You have attempted to execute a CGI, ISAPI, or other executable program from a directory that does not allow programs to be executed. HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. Internet Information Services (IIS) So it is obvious what needs to be fixed, so: 1) Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. 2) Right-click the Web site that contains the SharePoint Web site that you created, and then click Properties. 3) Click the Home Directory tab. 4) Under Application settings, click either Scripts only in the Execute permissions list or Scripts and Executables in the Execute permissions list (as appropriate to your situation). Click OK. 5) Quit IIS Manager. But I'm still getting the same error. So what else could be wrong?

Restarting service from a client computer without rights

I have already created the program to restart a SQL database but it only works if the client has the rights. This is going to be done on a local network from a client computer when they can't get a person that has the password on the phone. Any thoughts I'm currently using the servicecontroller to start and stop database. When I don't have the rights I get a access denied error, or This operation might require other privileges. Not sure if impersonation would work since I don't have the userid and password.

IE 8 Errors for Group Permissions for access

Hello, The company I work for is about to begin testing for a transition from IE6 to IE8. One of our main concerns is about using permissions to control intranet access to internal sites,etc. This was a problem we encountered during testing for IE7 and scrapped it all together. However, IE6 has more than its foot in the grave, its head is peeking out. Microsoft is only supporting IE6 until 2014 when they also abandon support for Windows XP. IE7 just came up with a box asking for you to enter your credentials. It didn't matter if you had permissions, it always said access denied. We have yet to begin testing but I was hoping someone has encountered this issue as well and may be able to shed some light on the subject.

PHP/Apache: Permission settings for uploaded JPEG image files not correct.

I just setup a LAMP development server and am still trouble-shooting some things. The server is installed on one computer and I use a Windows laptop to write my code and test the site via the web browser. My file uploading script works in that JPEG image files are successfully uploaded to the server, but when I try to view the images in the web browser, permission is denied. I check the permissions on the file via the server and they are 600. I can fix the issue by chmod 777 theimage.jpg, but this doesn't seem like a good solution at all. "Don't Allow" in LocationManager keeps logging errors

I have an app that checked for location. It asks the user to use location and if the user says no on the menu there is an issue when i load the mapview. Once i select the mapView it asks for the user location again. If the user says no again my console keeps displaying errors/warning as well as my NSLog from the "didFailWithError" of my location Manager class. Is there a way of stopping the LocationManage:didFailWithErrors if the user has already said no? Microsoft Speech Recognition in web service

I'm trying to use the System.Speech.Recognition namespace for recognizing speech in a web service. Actually, the WS calls a dll that uses this namespace. The problem is that...I can't. First, I had a Access denied error. After changing the Identity of my application pool to LocalSystem (security break, I know), that disappeared. But a timeout appeared. I receive no error, but no response either. I did some tests, and, the same code (very simple) that I use for recognizing the text in a WAV returns the answer in around 2 seconds, when integrated in a desktop application, but hangs and does nothing in a web application. I think I'm missing something... I'm not supposed to use System.Speech.Recognition in a web application? Am I supposed to use something else? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
