Is it better to run a VM on a dual core hyperthreaded machine as a four core or as a two core VM.
The hyperthreaded 'virtual' cores are not as fast as the real cores. Does this effect the VM?
I have 2 folders:
/home/sphinx/articlesdb/
and:
/home/sphinx/tmp/articlesdb/
I want to move and overwrite all of the files from tmp into the main folder.
I am currently using:
mv -f /home/sphinx/tmp/articlesdb/ /home/sphinx/
But I get this error:
mv: cannot move `/home/sphinx/tmp/articlesdb/' to a subdirectory of itself, `/home/sphinx/articlesdb'
It needs to do this as fast as possible so I don't want to copy.
Should I remove /home/sphinx/articlesdb/ completely and then run the mv command or do I just need to tweak the command slightly?
I have a database server with many poorly written queries that causes the sql server to spike then drop constantly ( a massive start from scratch is happening). I need to know if the cpu allocation on the vm to expand as needed is best practice for a case like this. I am wondering if the esxi platform cant expand as fast as the spikes happen.
I am curious what is best practice for vm cpu allocation on sql server (with horribly written queries)
Hi,
on a Windows 7 machine I need to switch back and forth two connections: the LAN connection (that works behind a proxy) and a wireless connection via a USB modem. This requires every time to activate / deactivate two connections in the manager and switch on / off the LAN settings.
I don't think there is some way to keep two connections alive and specify which one to use based on the program, but my question is: is there a simple little utility that makes switching the connection one-click easy and fast?
Thanks
I'm running Kannel on my server for sending SMS-es and while everything goes out just fine, DLRs aren't coming in to my application fast enough. When I look at the Kannel status page, it shows "DLR: XXXX queued, using internal storage" and the number decreases very slowly. Is it possible to make DLRs come in faster and without a huge delay?

None of the above start fast enough on my netbook with an Atom processor. Any alternatives would be appreciated, though I feel I have expired my google-foo.
I frequently reinstall Windows from scratch because it has become to slow. I wonder if I were to uninstall every application, followed by a defrag and CCleaner job, would it be as fast as a fresh install. Does anyone know?
My wireless network works perfectly when only 1 device is connected. Super fast, full strength. But as soon as multiple devices are connected to the wireless network the connections become unstable (constantly losing connection). It's quite annoying.
I have a Sitecom Wireless 300N XR Gigabit Router WL-306, which should be a decent router so I'm guessing there must be something wrong with my configuration.
Does any of you know what might cause this?
Thanks
Emacs does not seem to respect the OS's key repeat rate. I'm using emacs in the terminal. I've set the repeat rate to as fast as possible by directly editing the settings in the following file (I restarted after making the change):
open ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
The rest of the system observes the repeat rate. The terminal works as expected, as does vim. But, when I use emacs I still get the annoyingly slow repeat rate.
Does anyone know where I can find web hosting that supports php/mysql?
I'm just using it to practice updating/changing live web sites, and to run code in an environment other than my XAMP stack on my thumb drive. It doesn't need to be fast or able to use a lot of bandwith, just somewhere I can play with code to sharpen my skill set
Has anybody had the chance to use either one of Z-Drive or Z-Drive R2? How do they perform? How fast can they boot Windows? How faster can the compile a big C/C++ or Java based project?
I'm looking to buy some usb sticks which will mainly be used in tech support for the purposes of removing viruses and booting up various OS's. Therefore, I am looking for the following features:
Write protected switch (so that they may be safely plugged in to potentially infected machines)
As fast as possible (so that loading, for example, a windows recovery, doesn't take forever)
At least 4GB in size
Any other features that might be useful for the above purpose
Price is no object but, of course, the cheaper the better.
i would like to develop an application to edit image's metadata, I know there are free tools for this out there but I would like to research into this and develop my own application. I am not software developer but I have the skill of learning to program really fast.
Can someone please point me in the right direction, Thanks!
Can it be done in Java oR VB or which language would you recommend, please guide me
In VLC for Android, i discovered an option to preserve the pitch during faster-than-normal playback:
The "requires a fast device" obviously implies that faster playback is more performant when the pitch is changed too. Why is that so?
What i've tried: Before posting this question i did some shallow research through Google. According to Wikipedia, there are several methods for faster playback of audio, the "simplest" one (Resampling) changes the pitch.
I have been playing around with the Reddit open source software and have been getting no where fast.
I was wondering if anybody can instruct me on how to install the software on a web server. I know how to install normal php scripts etc, but I've never installed a software such as a python or rails script before.
I'm not very good with commands but I know how to run them. If that makes sense.
Thanks!
I am working on a project to monitor if human tissue has been fused with radio frequency during the surgery or not, therefore we are using a very fast camera (1800fps) and also laser illumination on the tissue and a framegrabber (1GB memory).
I notice that, instead of a framegrabber, I'm able to use GPU as well, but I am not sure on what's the difference between them?
Can any body explain what is the difference between a frame grabber and a GPU?
My goal is to instead of buying 4 separate basic PCs (plus the obvious peripherals), buy just one fast PC and the peripherals.
I'm wondering if I can use a more powerful computer, say, one with core i7 and plenty of RAM, with 2 video cards (total of 4 monitor outputs) to run 4 or more virtual machines (WinXPs) so instead of having 4 individual machines, I'll be having just one. However, the catch is, is it possible to have a pair of mouse and keyboard + input/output audio for each of these virtual machines?
Ive have the Nokia N900 mobile phone (running Maemo linux), and my device is really slow while using the wifi and trying to get stuff online (checking mail, loading pages). The webbrowsers itself (MicroB, Firefox, Opera) starts fast.
Yesterday ive tried to set the dns to googles but that did not solve the case.
Is there, and how do i check/verify my connection to the internet if im connected to my home wifi in linux? (tools, other then ping :D)
I have several Windows Server 2003 Terminal servers to service our domain users.
Sometimes the Default User profile (C:\Documents and Settings\Default User) gets filled with tempoary internet files, so when a new user logs in, he gets a 1GB profile (instead of 20MB) that fills up the server fast.
Why is it the default user profile gets filled up with files like that, by who and how do i prevent this?
If I have a gigabit switch connected to three machines, two of which have Gigabit NICs and one of which has a 10/100 switch, will the traffic between the two fast machines be 100MBps or 1000Mbps?
When I move a directory containing 900 MB in 4k files to another directory in the same filesystem, it takes nearly 1 minute and I hear the disk working. It's NTFS on Windows XP, the disk is quite fast (ST3100015 28AS) and works fine according to CrystalMark. I switched the antivirus off, and there's nothing else running (there's a lot of processes, but none doing any work).
WTF is it doing instead of changing two directory entries?
I have Windows Server 2008 R2 installed as a virtual guest in my Windows 7 host via VirtualBox 4.0.
I did this to move my development activity to a controlled environment that doesn't affect my host OS when I don't want to develop.
The problem I have is that when I try to connect to my shared hosting FTP, it's slow as hell on the virtual OS but perfectly fast on the host.
I tried:
Disabling Windows Firewall
Trying several different FTP clients
Anyone else have this issue?
I have several laptops so I use a USB key version of Firefox to keep my environment as I move around. I followed the suggestions offered on the Firefox web site (turn off the cache and history etc.) and its better but still much slower than the normal version.
Other than buying a new, super fast flux-capacitor based USB key, what other tips and tricks can I use?
I am using WebDAV on Linux box with davfs2 1.4.6. When I copy a file to a mounted WebDAV service, it is goes rather fast, just like a regular local drive operation. And it actually is, because the file is first copied to ~/.davf2/cache directory. But how do I know that uploading is finished and where do I see current progress? Is there a way to know that uploading failed due to lack of space or file size restrictions?
Hi,
My web server container is Tomcat 6.0.14
JVM 1.6.0_17-b04
BlazeDS 3.2.0.3978
Im sending request from the same local machine via AMF to BlazeDS server and only first request takes about 10secend to proceed. Each next request is preceeding correctly (very fast, less than 0.5s). Anyone know what's the reason of soo slow responsing?
I'm a developer, not administrator so please be patient :)
