• Marching squares: Finding multiple contours within one source field?

  Principally, this is a follow-up-question to a problem from a few weeks ago, even though this is about the algorithm in general without application to my actual problem. The algorithm basically searches through all lines in the picture, starting from the top left of it, until it finds a pixel that is a border. In pseudo-C++: int start = 0; for(int i=0; i<amount_of_pixels; ++i) { if(pixels[i] == border) { start = i; break; } } When it finds one, it starts the marching squares algorithm and finds the contour to whatever object the pixel belongs to. Let's say I have something like this: Where everything except the color white is a border. And have found the contour points of the first blob: For the general algorithm it's over. It found a contour and has done its job. How can I move on to the other two blobs to find their contours as well?

  As I have been asked,  here to tidy up yesterdays post is the procedure my startup procedure calls along with the logging table deployed in the DBA database. Just to muddy the water further I have routines for remotely calling the DBAMessages table through a remote server to send out email from a central server!! • Sometimes new windows don't come to the front when launched

  I'm using gnome shell with new ubuntu for few days now and have experienced really annoying behaviour with new windows. Sometimes when I use another window and press e.g. Alt Ctrl T to open new terminal window, I don't get this window being brought to front. Instead I get notification at the bottom that "New terminal window is ready to use". The same is with Pidgin being integrated with gnome shell (via extension). Every time I get new message, window pops up but doesn't show. I need to either Alt Tab it or click the notification. Is there any way to have new windows being always brought to front, and remove those annoying "Window is ready" notifications? • If my URL's are static, but then parsed by Javascript, does that make it crawlable?

  Lets say I have a link: <a href="/about/">About Us</a> But in Javascript [or jQuery] catches it and then adds the hash based off of the href attribute: $('a').click(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); // Extremely oversimplified.. window.location.hash = $(this).attr('href'); }); And then we use a hashchange event to do the general 'magic' of Ajax requests. This allows for the actual href to be seen by crawlers, but gives client-side users with JS enabled an ajax-based website. Does this 'help' the general SEO issues that come along with hashtags? I know hashbangs are 'ok', but afaik they aren't reliable?

• Is C++11 Uniform Initialization a replacement for the old style syntax?

  I understand that C++11's uniform initialization solves some syntactical ambiguity in the language, but in a lot of Bjarne Stroustrup's presentations (particularly those during the GoingNative 2012 talks), his examples primarily use this syntax now whenever he is constructing objects. Is it recommended now to use uniform initialization in all cases? What should the general approach be for this new feature as far as coding style goes and general usage? What are some reasons to not use it? Note that in my mind I'm thinking primarily of object construction as my use case, but if there are other scenarios to consider please let me know.

• Integrating feature request functionality directly into the business software you write?

  What are relative merits of something like a button on a piece of custom bizware that says, "press me to ask for a feature" or "click here if something didn't work right". The problem I'm trying to remedy is the general lack of formality surrounding feature requests. Most specifically, the rate at which I receive walk-ups from end-users. Taken one at a time, it can be beneficial, but sometimes it can hinder productivity on the larger scale. Has anyone done something like this and has it been a general success or alternately somewhat a waste of time. My instincts are not giving me a hint here.
