• iOS Question. Is There a Framework for Build Time Based Apps.

  I have the need for some time based effects in the iPad app I am building. The UIView class animation capability beginAnimatins/commitAnimations is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for but it is restricted to specific properties of UIView deemed animatable. Ideally, I am looking for a solution that lets me drive an a time-based function that can perhaps send messages to a class of my own choosing at the rate I specify in the animation. Specifically, I have a function - my implementation of the RenderMan function "smoothstep" which is essentially an ease-in ease-out curve common in animation. It takes [0 - 1] as input and outputs [0 - 1] as the curve is evaluated. I want to drive this function for a duration of my own choosing at rate of my own choosing. Thanks in advance. -Doug

  Hi, I have a NSMutableArray that contains all the calendars on my system (as CalCalendar objects): NSMutableArray *calendars = [[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] calendars]; I want to remove from calendars any CalCalendar objects whose title does not include the string @"work". I've tried this: for (CalCalendar *cal in calendars) { // Look to see if this calendar's title contains "work". If not - remove it if ([[cal title] rangeOfString:@"work"].location == NSNotFound) { [calendars removeObject:cal]; } } The console is complaining that: *** Collection <NSCFArray: 0x11660ccb0> was mutated while being enumerated. And things go bad. Obviously it would seem you can't do what I want to do this way so can anyone suggest the best way to go about it? Thanks,

  Regarding the black art of managing memory on iPhone OS devices: what do the different levels of memory warning mean. Level 1? Level 2? Does the dial go to 11? Context: After an extensive memory stress testing period - including running my iPad app with the iPod music player app playing, I am inclined to ignore the random yet infrequent memory warnings I am receiving. My app never crashes. Ever. My app is leak free. And, well, the mems warnings just don't seem to matter. Thanks, Doug

• How i solve memory leak problem?

  Hi, I developing an simple application in which design or make code in which i creating and instance object of UIImage. When i swip on Ipad screen it make up an image of the sreen and that image i render into UIImage object after that this image i set into UIImageView object and UIimage object is released. Every time i swipe on the screen and above process is does again and again. But it give me leak in renderImage = [[UIImage alloc] init];. • What's the correct way to represent a linear process in CocoaTouch (UIKit)?

  I need to represent a linear process (think wizard) in an iPad app. In principle I could use a UINavigationController and just keep pushing new controllers for each step of the process. But this seems rather inefficient since the process I'm modeling has no notion of navigating backwards so all previous views would pointlessly stay around and use up resources. At the moment I keep adding and removing a subview to one "master" viewcontroller and basically swapping out the contents. This works but feels rather clunky and I hope there is some nicer way to achieve this. Additionally there needs to be an animated transition between the views. (I have this working at the moment via beginAnimations / commitAnimations)

• APNS Sending Frequent Notifications to Device

  I'm trying to mimic a pager with my app by sending push notifications to the user until he or she responds. My thought was to send a push every few seconds and play the default sound on arrival. Not perfect, but better than nothing. It's working all right. However, I am finding that the sound starts to stutter/interrupt a bit after a few notifications have been sent -- as if it's trying to play the sound more than once. This happens even if I only send the push every 10 seconds. I just tested it at 20 second intervals and even then it starts to sound interrupted after about 10 times. Any idea how to resolve this so each message plays the sound crisply? p.s. Testing performed on an iPad.

  I'm developing an HTML5 application (a game), that automatically preloads 5 video files. I'm able to do so correctly on Safari for PC, so there are no overlooked problems with file formats, codecs or such. The load fails on an iPad. As an official guide for video on iOS puts it: This means the JavaScript play() and load() methods are also inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action. In other words, a user-initiated Play button works, but an onLoad="play()" event does not. Does this mean, that I have no means to initiate the loading of video after a user initiated action, if that action hasn't been tied to a video element (user clicked on a regular div — I request loading and displaying of a video, compared to the user actually clicking on a video element to load and play that particular element)?   Is there a copy of the file saved to the ipad/ipod when using progressive http download (apple segmented) that the user could potentially copy off the device? meaning, is this scenario considered 'safe' from a content protection pov: 1. user comes to websites with movies behind paywall 2. user selects a movie to watch online (progressively downloaded or 'pseudo-streamed') 3. segments are downloaded seamlessly by html5 video tag as part of .m3u8 4. movie plays/ends. is there any full copy of this movie on the device that can be transferred off? anyone know apple's stance on this?

• [iOS] How to catch cancallation of UIScrollView or others?

  Sometimes, interruptions such as phone call occur and disturb a regular behavior of an app in iPhone or iPad. For example, I created one UIScrollView instance and implemented UIScrollView delegate methods: scrollViewWillBeginDragging and scrollViewDidEndDragging(and scrollViewDidEndDecelerating). A scrollViewWillBeginDragging method deactivated all custom buttons in my app. Then scrollViewDidEndDragging and scrollViewDidEndDecelerating methods activated these custom buttons. That is, while the user scrolled, all custom buttons became deactivated for a while. The problem was that while the user started to drag and just held an UIScrollView instance, if I took a screenshot by pressing a home button and a power button, then any of scrollViewDidEndDragging and scrollViewDidEndDecelerating didn't get called. So the app became messed up. I implemented a UIApplicationWillResignActiveNotification method in my UIViewController, but it didn't get called after taking a screenshot. How can I catch any kind of interruption that disturbs a regular flow of events? Sometimes, touchesEnd and touchesCanceled didn't get called too due to an interruption. Thank you.

  As far as I can see there doesn't seem to any mature environment for crossplatform development for iPhone & Android slate (but feel free to correct me). I don't know Ipad, I must admit. Any reason why plain Java wouldn't cut it? (maybe underlying things like database (I am not too concerned with hardware)) I am thinking to try to make everything browser based, although that won't get around the d/b & h/w issues, unless there is JS framework that does so. Any advice?

I only need the hours but since I have to save date. it appears like this: Date companyWorkStartHour; Date companyWorkEndHour; start hours: 12-12-2001-13:00:00 finish hours: 12-12-2001-18:00:00 I have the timezone of the company and of the user. (my server may be in another timezone). TimeZone userTimeZone; TimeZone companyTimeZone; I need to check if the user's current time (considering his timezone) is within the company working hours (considering the company's time zone). How can I do it? I am struggling for over a week with Java calendar and with no success!

I then want to save the photos positions, then add further pages with more photo positions and eventually save all the pagesto be looked at later in a slideshow style. Can anyone advise 1. Saving UIImageView states when moving to new views (or swapping views) - I see this on using NSCoding iPhone - save UIImageView state - but am at a lose - any more examples ? 2. • How do you know how much space an NSString (using default font) will occupy on a UITableView section

  Basically I want to copy the behavior in iPhone's Calendar where the day of week (Mon, Tue, Wed) is on the left side of the table's section header (left justified) while the formatted date (Apr 1, 2010, May 1, 2010) based on locale is on the right side of the table's section header (right justified). I was thinking of inserting a variable amount of space in between the day of week and formatted date but I first need to know the actual space consumed by the text on both sides to figure out how much space to add. • Portrait vs Landscape Launch Images

  An iPad app can support inclusion of launch images in both orientations; presumably, if your app supports auto-rotation, then this would suggest to me that if the user launches an app while the device is in Landscape mode, then the Landscape launch image is used. But in all the apps I've built and released, this has never been the case. Never once has the Landscape launch image appeared, only the Portrait. After loading, the app will auto-rotate to whatever orientation the device is in, but at launch, it assumes you are in Portrait. Always. Why? I have seen many other apps in the store that behave this way, but then there are some seem to always automatically know immediately at first launch, from that first launch image, that you are in Landscape, if that's the case. How is this done?
