• wheel of fortune collision detection

  Hey, I have a wheel segmented into 8 pie pieces, and a picker that is pointing at the currently selected segment (think wheel of fortune). I want to highlight the currently selected segment, and so have started to use Chipmunk to construct the 8 segments, attached to a rotating body, and then the picker that is put in a position to collide with each of the segments. The trick is, how do you allow the picker to pass over top of the segments, while still getting the collision, but not actually colliding and slowing down the wheel? I haven't started down this path yet, but thought this may solve the problem: removing the colliding segment and then putting it back after the picker has started colliding with another segment a bit away (like two segments away). There may be a much simpler solution not even involving Chipmunk that I haven't thought of. Thanks, Andrew

• iPhone SDK Internet connection detection

  I'm working on an iPhone application that makes a few calls to web services. I posted this application on the Apple store but it got rejected (and rightly so) since there was no error message displayed to the user if no Internet connection is available. Since obviously the application would not work without it. So I just wanted to know how to best achieve this? I'm guessing something needs to go in the viewDidLoad method that will throw an alert box saying something like "You need an Internet connection to use this application". Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'm looking for alternatives to the Delphi suite (so don't give it as an answer), something that would allow me to write Windows GUI applications with ease. What is the right option of programming languages and tools for building our website? What is the easiest web programing language at....? Well, I'm more of a basic web designer. I know the easy stuff pretty well. (Ya know, html, css) But I've been trying to take it to the next step and I'm contemplating about what I should learn that will help me out the most in my future web design/programming career, should it be JavaScript or maybe I should try to learn a back end programming language such as PHP. Lately, I have been hearing about a lot how JavaScript is so great and useful now, because of libraries such as jQuery and what possibility's it can bring by using Node.js and other frameworks. I've only learned the most basic of JavaScript and used some jQuery (mostly plugins) so i wouldn't know at all of what it can actually do. Would JS being so popular as it is now and useful, be a reason to stick with JavaScript and only learn it that for now? Or as a web designer, how important would it be to learn how to make a web application/website operate and functional, and know how to work with servers, etc? (Such as getting forms to work and sending data to the server and back) I've took a look at frameworks such as Code Igniter before, and looks really simple to get started with if I try to learn PHP, But I'm not sure how important it is for my career and what I would gain out of it. I'm asking because I can't decide what I should learn first. When I select it, I really want to take my time and learn the language. I don't want to spend time on learning multiple languages at the same time, so I need to pick wisely. I'm trying to turn the right direction so my career can hopefully be successful in the feature. (If money/gaining a job asked if its important, then its a yeah, it is a bit) I'm hoping I can get opinions and suggestions on this question, thanks for giving me your thoughts also.

  Hi all, I'm doing some endian-sensitive file manipulation on iPhone. Are there standard macros or #defines in that environment that indicate native endianness and offer swapping if necessary? I know I can check in advance and just do the right thing for this particular architecture, but wondering if there are cleaner ways of doing the right thing. (The file format is little endian; if it were big-endian, I'd probably just use the htons/htonl family.) Thanks.

  I've been given the task of doing maintenance to a iOS application that uses OCMapView. I have just realized that when using the application in chinese language, it blows up when the selector doClustering is invoked on a OCMapView instance. This is for me a very puzzling behaviour, because I thought that regardless of the environment language, the OCMapView class should allways have the same methods. Am I wrong?   I would like to write a piece of java code that synchronizes files between local hard drive and a usb storage. I would like to have a different synchronization configuration depending on which usb storage is plugged in and I would like to have apropriate configuration to be selected automatically rather than chosen by the user. I've just read the JSR-80 and jUSB documentation as well as a bunch of articles and SO posts, but all of those are very old and it seems that since that time (around 2005) all the efforts have been abandoned especially for Windows platform, while the OS-independence is quite important to me (at least Windows and Linux need to be supported). Do I really need to use any of the USB APIs to recognize external drives that are connected to the system? I need something that is more unique than file path, drive letter or drive label... And if yes which one would you recommend (unless I missed something jUnit is actually the only for which Windows support exists).

  I am wanting to change the text background color on a tableview's cell when it is hovered upon, similar to how AddressBook "highlights" the label of a contact's element when you mouseover the label names. However I cannot figure out how to accomplish... detecting a mouseover on a particular NSCell and... After detecting the cell his hovered upon, highlighting the text in that cell (not highlighting the entire row as if the user selected that row) As NSCell is not a subclass of NSView this seems to be a very difficult task. Any example of this or explanation on how this might be done would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• Microsoft Access: "Can't find Language DLL msain900.dll"

  I get "Can't find Language DLL msain900.dll" in an alert box when I try to run access (both when opening an existing database and when just running it) and in any mode (regular and safe mode). Is there a way to prevent this DLL from being required? Update: I got a copy of msain900.dll from a co-worker and I put it in both System32 and in Office12; neither helped. (FYI: You can't use regsvr32 on this DLL; it's not a system file.)
