• Ubuntu option vanishes after setting up windows XP(?) [closed]

  I have installed both windows XP as well as Ubuntu 9.04 on my machine.I can choose between them using dual boot option at the startup.Up to this, it is fine. But unfortunately when my XP crashes, I need to install XP again.But when I do it,after installing XP successfully, dual boot option no longer appears at the startup. So the Ubuntu goes in vein. What is the problem here? How do I solve it?

  I've been thinking if there's a way how to speed up freeing memory in .NET. I'm creating a game in .NET (only managed code) where no significant graphics is needed but still I would like to write it properly in order to not to lose performance for nothing.   I would like to flash a success message on my page. I am using the jQuery fadeOut method to fade and then remove the element. I can increase the duration to make it last longer, however this looks strange. What I would like to happen is have the element be displayed for five seconds, then fade quickly, and finally be removed. How can you animate this using jQuery?

  I'm working with Colorbox and if I specify to use an iframe with it then the $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] variable is no longer available to me. I need that in order to detect if ajax has loaded so then I can include a header/footer or not. Anyway to get this variable or is there another variable that I can get when I use iframe? Thanks.

  Hi, I an trying to setup Forms Based Authentication using ASPNetSQLMembershipProvider. In 2010 Beta 2, I was able to do this in classic mode, and it worked. With the RTM, it is no longer supported under classic mode, and I must switch to Claims based Authentication. So I created a new web application, and configured everything in sharepoint to work with FBA, But I can't get it to work. Anyone managed to do this? Thanks, Itay.

This feature is no longer there because of some refactoring and dojo guys are not going to put it back because they are not convinced about a good enough case for this.   I'm looking for a replacement for JCaptcha, which doesn't seem to be maintained any more, and isn't very good to begin with. The replacement has to integrate nicely with JavaEE webapps. As I can see it, there are three options: JCaptcha - No longer maintained, crude API SimpleCaptcha - much nicer API, nicer captchas, but seems to be Java6 only ReCaptcha - easy to use, uses remote web-service to generate captchas, but not much control over look and feel Has anyone used any others, that they'd recommend?

  When you ask for a new HierarchyID between two others, the result gets progressively longer. For example, between 2/5.6 and 2/5.7 there's only 2/5.6.1 and other 4 component paths. The HierarchyID data type is limited to 800 some bytes, so you can't repeat this forever. Then again, integer types are also limited, but it isn't a problem in practice. Should I periodically defragment my table so that height doesn't grow unbounded?

• How do I prevent ImageMagick convert from scaling images *up*?

  I'm using ImageMagick's convert tool to generate image thumbnails for a web application. I'm using notation like so: 600x600> The images are indeed scaled to 600px wide/tall (depending on the longer side) and proportions are properly maintained, however images less than 600px in either direction are scaled up — this behavior is not desired. Is there a way to prevent convert from scaling images up if the destination dimensions both exceed the original image size?

If I try to unmount the drive with net use, and the drive is being used, it will tell me that the drive is in use and prompt me to take further action.
