• Ubuntu option vanishes after setting up windows XP(?) [closed]

  I have installed both windows XP as well as Ubuntu 9.04 on my machine.I can choose between them using dual boot option at the startup.Up to this, it is fine. But unfortunately when my XP crashes, I need to install XP again.But when I do it,after installing XP successfully, dual boot option no longer appears at the startup. So the Ubuntu goes in vein. What is the problem here? How do I solve it?

• SocketTimeout: Read timed out

  I'm using Flex - IIS - ASP.NET to do remote calls. When I stresstest, all remote calls that take longer than 30 seconds fail. In Charles I get a message saying 'SocketTimeout: Read timed out'. Is this something that can be configured in IIS? Or could it be a problem with a setting in Charles?

  Hi, I an trying to setup Forms Based Authentication using ASPNetSQLMembershipProvider. In 2010 Beta 2, I was able to do this in classic mode, and it worked. With the RTM, it is no longer supported under classic mode, and I must switch to Claims based Authentication. So I created a new web application, and configured everything in sharepoint to work with FBA, But I can't get it to work. Anyone managed to do this? Thanks, Itay.

  I would like to flash a success message on my page. I am using the jQuery fadeOut method to fade and then remove the element. I can increase the duration to make it last longer, however this looks strange. What I would like to happen is have the element be displayed for five seconds, then fade quickly, and finally be removed. How can you animate this using jQuery?

  I'm working with Colorbox and if I specify to use an iframe with it then the $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] variable is no longer available to me. I need that in order to detect if ajax has loaded so then I can include a header/footer or not. Anyway to get this variable or is there another variable that I can get when I use iframe? Thanks.

• Call overidden method in Dojo

  In dojo, one cannot call a overidden superclass method outside of the same method in the derived class (for which there is this.inherited(), other than that one can call using class_name.function_name.apply). This feature is no longer there because of some refactoring and dojo guys are not going to put it back because they are not convinced about a good enough case for this.   I'm looking for a replacement for JCaptcha, which doesn't seem to be maintained any more, and isn't very good to begin with. The replacement has to integrate nicely with JavaEE webapps. As I can see it, there are three options: JCaptcha - No longer maintained, crude API SimpleCaptcha - much nicer API, nicer captchas, but seems to be Java6 only ReCaptcha - easy to use, uses remote web-service to generate captchas, but not much control over look and feel Has anyone used any others, that they'd recommend?

• Should I worry about running out of HierarchyIDs?

  When you ask for a new HierarchyID between two others, the result gets progressively longer. For example, between 2/5.6 and 2/5.7 there's only 2/5.6.1 and other 4 component paths. The HierarchyID data type is limited to 800 some bytes, so you can't repeat this forever. Then again, integer types are also limited, but it isn't a problem in practice. Should I periodically defragment my table so that height doesn't grow unbounded?

  I'm using ImageMagick's convert tool to generate image thumbnails for a web application. I'm using notation like so: 600x600> The images are indeed scaled to 600px wide/tall (depending on the longer side) and proportions are properly maintained, however images less than 600px in either direction are scaled up — this behavior is not desired. Is there a way to prevent convert from scaling images up if the destination dimensions both exceed the original image size?

  Is there any way of programmatically finding out if a mapped drive is currently in use? If I try to unmount the drive with net use, and the drive is being used, it will tell me that the drive is in use and prompt me to take further action.
