• Is it common to purchase an insurance policy for contract development work?

  I am not sure if this is the best place for the question, but I am not sure where else to ask. Background I am a contract developer and have just been asked to provide a general liability policy for my next gig. In 6-7 years this has never been asked of me. Question Is this common? If so, can anyone recommend a good underwriter that focuses on what we do as contract software developers? I realize that Google could help me find underwriters but it won't give me unbiased public opinion about which companies actually understand what we do and factor that into the price of the policy.   Possible Duplicate: What is the best stucture of SEO friendly URL? I am working on a job board, and i'm trying to figure out a good design for URL structure. Some things that I have found through research: 100 - 150 Chars long is ideal 3-5 words in your url, according to Matt Cutts Use .htaccess to force clean urls Do not duplicate data (important) Clean and precise, describing the content Use hyphens On the homepage, I try to detect the users location based on IP, but this isn't always accurate, and not always reliable. So until they put in their city/location, I can't always use this structure but this is potentially work-able. For Searching, a form post to a results page: domain.com/jobs/[city]/[search] ie: domain.com/jobs/toronto/sales manager/ OR domain.com/search/jobs/toronto/sales manager/ or do I remove the word JOBS and just use Search. I trying to keep good search terms in the URL, but also keep it clean and concise. Can someone give me some feedback and thoughts to 'why'...

• I cant see my windows drive in ubuntu

  I'm n00ber than any n00b you ever seen, so bear with me... I just downloaded wubi and installed ubuntu 12.10 along with Windows 7 on the same HDD. Linux works fine, but doesnt show files from drive C (on which it is installed). I really need C as it contains all my files. I did df -h in the terminal. It does show the drive. /dev/sda2 577G 220G 358G 38% /host Now I tried to mount the drive sudo mount /dev/sda2 and got the response mount: /dev/sda2 already mounted or /host busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda2 is already mounted on /host I dont know what that means. The drive doesnt show up in HOME FOLDER. What am i supposed to do now?

  Say I'm having a multiplayer RTS game. There's a main server for each individual game and several clients connected to it. All packets are sent to server first and then server retransmits them back to clients. Say Server is located in one time-zone and all of the clients are in different time-zones. ClientA send a text message in chat at 12:03, what times should be stamped for other clients? Should his message be uniformely timestamped by Server (12:02) or each client should timestamp the message whenever it is recieved (12:04, 16:04, 03:03, etc..). Bear in mind, that all the messages are to be in the same order on all clients, server takes care of that. So thats the question - use local time for each client or use global server time to timestamp chat messages?

• No splash screen on hibernate

  Hibernate is working fine. A bit slow when resuming from a hibernate but I can bear with it just so that I have all open applications on the desktop as I left it. Then again the "slowness" might be because of the 4GB RAM, although I'm assuming only what is used gets swapped and not the entire memory. Going back, my question is has anyone been able to make Ubuntu show a splash screen or some kind of indicator/progress bar to show while hibernating or while resuming? I remember with SuSE on my HP Compaq Presario notebook it had messages appear during and after. Better than nothing, I guess. Thanks in advance! :D

If it is older it may no longer be fully up to date and or inaccurate. Bear that in mind.  Second, READ THE COMMENTS! Often small omissions or other issues in the post itself are resolved in the comments. If the solution to your issue does not appear to work check the comments. • Youtube showing horizontal lines when full screen in google chrome

  First, im new in ubuntu so please bear with me. My google chrome shows strange behavior when playing youtube videos in full screen mode. There will be some horizontal white lines, which is exactly like when you playing the game without the vsync. I've checked firefox and the videos working perfectly in there. I also tried to play videos from my HDD using VLC player and its working fine. It seems the problem is in the google chrome alone. My version of ubuntu is 13.04, my laptop is asus n46vz and i use the latest release of google chrome. I've tried to ask google, but it seems he has no answer. Thanks for your time :D

• mouse and mousepad not working properly

  Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Samsung Q35 The mouse pad has stopped working, only the buttons work. The external mouse is also behaving very oddly, the mouse pointer works, but the button is not working properly, it has to be pressed many times or held down to select anything, and when anything that I select behaves as though the mouse is being clicked all the screen, settings will keep changing, the page will scroll, sliders will move up and down, tabs will toggle etc, so everything is unusable with the mouse, cannot even use the browser as it keeps scrolling the page up and down. I have tested the mouse on another computer, and it works fine. Please bear in mind that I am also a complete Linux novice, I installed Ubuntu on an old laptop for my kids, that is the limit of my experience.

  I finished University around 4 years ago double degree in Software Eng/Comp Sci. Got my first job at a startup in my final year, was with them for 2.5 years then started my own business. So far everything is going great, lots of clients and stead work etc, but coming right out of uni and into a start up I never had any form or senior software engineer guiding my work or suggesting improvements etc... Whats the best way for me to improve & learn more? Books? MS Exams? Other? I develop in C#, ASP.NET/MVC. Update The problem isn't really with releasing products, I've released quite a few which are up and running with customers happy. It's more with quality of code, best practices, how do I know something I am code is correct, it may work but there may be ways of coding it much more efficiently or by adhering to some kind of standard Cheers for any responses! • totally stuck trying to SSHing remote server

  Hey guys, So i've been given access to ssh a server. I have the username/password, but server apparently requires a public key (now bear in mind that i am a noob in ssh). When I do: ssh -p 52 [email protected] terminal says Permission denied (publickey). So I went using ssh-keygen -t rsa and got myself the id_rsa and id_rsa.pub files in /root/.ssh. Chmoded /root/.ssh to 700 and /root/.ssh/* to 600. Tried sshing server.com again, same error. What am I missing? I've been given a Putty Pagant Key file (.ppk) by the SYSADMIN of server.com. Apparently, other users (all Windows) can connect using Putty Pagant.exe. Please help :)

  I am aware of the ObjectForScripting property provided for the WebBrowser control, which is provided for WinForms application. I am using the WebBrowser control in a smart device application. I am not able to find this property. Is it documented somewhere that ObjectForScripting is not available for Windows CE? (Got solved in StackOverflow) Also, are there any alternatives? (Still need to know?) Kindly bear with me if I am not using the protocols of Stack Exchange. I am sorry to be unaware.

• Are the Broadcom drivers in any new releases for my Dell with BCM4401 and BCM4311

  I installed 12.04 on my wife's Dell laptop to replace 10.04. The code for the Broadcom drivers is broken and I am a user, not a coder. Does any available release of Ubuntu have the drivers in place so I can install and run and get my life back after days of thrashing around. I am willing to do some work, but I am not up to heavy duty command line activity. Please help if you can with any information. Thanks in advance. Matt
