Cannot connect to SQL Server from ASP.NET MVC app

I have an ASP.NET MVC app that has on a hosted server for over a year, connecting to SQL Server. I've had to change hosting services, the new one supports MVC 1.0. I've also moved a non MVC ASP app to the same hosting service. Now, MY MVC based app retturnes this error when I try to validate a user login. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Now, the non-MVC app can access the exact same database and authenticate users just fine. The MVC app, when run from my dev box connects fine. It also run/connects/authenticates without problem when I install and run the site from an internal SQL 2008 server running IIS 7. I, along with the hosting support techs, am at a loss how the exact same connect string works every where except on the hosted server, and only when run from inside an ASP.NET MVC web app. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Serializable object in intent returning as String

In my application, I am trying to pass a serializable object through an intent to another activity. The intent is not entirely created by me, it is created and passed through a search suggestion. In the content provider for the search suggestion, the object is created and placed in the SUGGEST_COLUMN_INTENT_EXTRA_DATA column of the MatrixCursor. However, when in the receiving activity I call getIntent().getSerializableExtra(SearchManager.EXTRA_DATA_KEY), the returned object is of type String and I cannot cast it into the original object class. I tried making a parcelable wrapper for my object that calls out.writeSerializable(...) and use that instead but the same thing happened. The string that is returned is like a generic Object toString(), i.e. com.foo.yak.MyAwesomeClass@4350058, so I'm assuming that toString() is being called somewhere where I have no control. Hopefully I'm just missing something simple. Thanks for the help! application trying to connect to mirrored sql db

Hello, We have 4 web servers that host our asp.net (3.5) application. Randomly, we get error messages like : 1) "Login failed for user 'userid'" 2) "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)" we are running sql2005 and have a principle and a mirror db (sync). When these exceptions are thrown, I look at the SQL error logs on the mirrored db and noticed the failed login messages in there. The principle db is running fine and the other web apps are working great. this will happen for maybe 10 min, then the app pool recycles and it starts hitting the principle db again. Is there a configuration I have incorrect? my theory is that our principle db is forwarding the request to the mirror, but that should never happen. any help??

SQL query for an access database needed

Hey guys, first off all sorry, i can't login using my yahoo provider. anyways I have this problem. Let me explain it to you, and then I'll show you a picture. I have a access db table. It has 'report id', 'recpient id', and 'recipient name' and 'report req'. What the table "means" is that do the user using that report still require it or can we decommission it. Here is how the data looks like (blocked out company userids and usernames): *check the link below, I cant post pictures cuz yahoo open id provider isnt working. So basically I need to have 3 select queries: 1) Select all the reports where for each report, ALL the users have said no to 'reportreq'. In plain English, i want a listing of all the reports that we have to decommission because no user wants it. 2) Select all the reports where the report is required, and the batchprintcopy is more then 0. This way we can see which report needs to be printed and save paper instead of printing all the reports. 3)A listing of all the reports where the reportreq field is empty. I think i can figure this one out myself. This is using Access/VBA and the data will be exported to an excel spreadsheet. I just a simple query if it exists, OR an alogorithm to do it quickly. Get the equivalent time between "dynamic" time zones

I have a table providers that has three columns (containing more columns but not important in this case): starttime, start time in which you can contact him. endtime, final hour in which you can contact him. region_id, region where the provider resides. In USA: California, Texas, etc. In UK: England, Scotland, etc starttime and endtime are time without timezone columns, but, "indirectly", their value has time zone of the region in which the provider resides. For example: starttime | endtime | region_id (time zone of region) | "real" st | "real" et ----------|----------|---------------------------------|-----------|----------- 03:00:00 | 17:00:00 | 1 (EGT => -1) | 02:00:00 | 16:00:00 Often I need to get the list of suppliers whose time range is within the current server time (taking into account the time zone conversion). The problem is that the time zones aren't "constant", ie, they may change during the summer time. However, this change is very specific to the region and not always carried out at the same time: EGT <= EGST, ART <= ARST, etc. The question is: 1. Is it necessary to use a webservice to update every so often the time zones in the regions? Does anyone know of a web service that can serve? 2. Is there a better approach to solve this problem? Thanks in advance. UPDATE I will give an example to clarify what I'm trying to get. In the table providers I found this records: idproviders | starttime | endtime | region_id ------------|-----------|----------|----------- 1 | 03:00:00 | 17:00:00 | 23 (Texas) 2 | 04:00:00 | 18:00:00 | 23 (Texas) If I execute the query in January, with this information: Server time (UTC offset) = 0 hours Texas providers (UTC offset) = +1 hour Server time = 02:00:00 I should get the following results: idproviders = 1 If I execute the query in June, with this information: Server time (UTC offset) = 0 hours Texas providers (UTC offset) = +2 hours (their local time has not changed, but their time zone has changed) Server time = 02:00:00 I should get the following results: idproviders = 1 and 2

How do you bind data from the view model into an object in the resources of the user control? I've tried the following: <local:GroupingProvider x:Key="groupingProvider" GroupValue="{Binding ElementName=userControl, Path=DataContext.Property}"/> But this doesn't work. Edit: GroupProvider extends DependencyObject and GroupValue is the name of a DependencyProperty. I'm getting an debugging message telling me that the property to which I am binding doesn't exist.

Pre-packaged Rails applications

Seems like most Rails applications have similar 'base' functionality. As such, it seems that there would be value in having pre-build Rails applications at various functionality points such as: basic User model with authentication using Authlogic #1 + openid integration #2 + authorization using declarative_authorization #3 + Administration module #4 + a Profile model Themes (useful stylesheets and such) Friendship model Geocoding ... In addition to the basic MVC stuff, these applications would include: testing harnesses seed data git support One could choose start from any of these functionality points. Other than the sample application that are available with the various gems/plugins, are there projects such as these? If not, I would certainly be willing to contribute what I have.

Integrated Windows authentication in IIS causing ADO.NET failure

We have a .NET 3.5 Web Service running under IIS. It must use identity impersonate="true" and Integrated Windows authentication in order to authenticate to third-party software. In addition, it connects to a SQL Server database using ADO.NET and SQL Server Authentication (specifying a fixed User ID and Password in the connection string). Everything worked fine until the database was moved to another SQL Server. Then the Web Service would throw the following exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) This error only occurs if identity impersonate is true in the Web.config. Again, the connection string hasn't changed and it specifies the user. I have tested the connection string and it works, both under the impersonated account and under the service account (and from both the remote machine and the server). What needs to be changed to get this to work with impersonation?

How to encrypt data in php using Public/Private keys?

I have a small string of some data (less than 1kb) that I would like to have user agents pass to other sites when they are sent from my site. In order for the other sites to verify that I was the one that created the string I though of two options. The server pings me back to confirm (like paypal, openid, etc..) I use public/private keys to prove I sent the message (like PGP, DKIM, etc..) I don't want to setup HMAC because that would mean I have to use custom keys for each site which would be a pain. Out of those two choices it seems that #2 would save on bandwidth which makes it seem like a better choice. So how can you setup public/private key cryptography using PHP and are there any downsides?

Cheapest ways to expose internet services

Hi all, we have developed/customized an internet site that provides functionalities like sharing, swap/barter, selling and rent any object/services trough public or private galleries and/or clubs. We'd like now to expose all or some of the services to the public, so that anybody can take advantage of our engine, but without spending too much as we rae running low on budget. At the moment we have developed some RSS interfaces for the public catalogs and is possible to use JQuery to query the engine. Do you have any advices on how to proceed here? We were thinking about something simple like framset, using openID like authentication, or similar technologies. Even if can be the coolest solution, we a would like to avoid the develop soap, rest or xmlrpc APIs as it takes a lot of time ( =money ) Do you have any super smart ideas?

There are some issues in the system which I am suspicious are related to threading, however, in theory they cannot be, due to the fact that the callbacks should all be returned on the same thread. Sharing cookie, sharing session, one time token, associative accounts, etc, etc. (BTW, any good article compare them?) Is there any keyword I should google and reuse before before I start to implement our own wheel. I know OpenID, but which is too much and it is not our need. We rather keep it KISS. We just want share the credentials of user that could save users from another login form.

im wondering if one can/should build a site like Stackoverflow with Drupal 7? we all know what Stackoverflow is and how it looks like. users <- threads <- tags and the openid stuff, validation etc. if you are going to build a site exactly as SO, will you use Drupal 6/7 or a MVC framework like CakePHP, CodeIgniter...? try to be realistic here and think about the actual work to do and how to implement with or without Drupal, not just "Drupal has nice features you can use and extend". would be helpful. thanks!

Logging into SO with curl

Netbeans, JPA Entity Beans in seperate projects. Unknown entity bean class

I am working in Netbeans and have my entity beans and web services in separate projects. I include the entity beans in the web services project however the ApplicaitonConfig.java file keeps getting over written and removing the entries I make for the entity beans in the associated jar file. My question is: is it required to have both the EntityBeans and the WebServices share the same project/jar file? Unfortunately the problem still persists. I have opened the WAR file and validated that the EntityBean.jar file is the latest version and is located in the WEB-INF/lib directory of the War file. I think it is tied to the fact that the entities are not being "registered" with the entity manager. However i do not know why they are not being registered.

JDK on Windows takes max around 2 GB RAM. Even if we allocate more RAM to our JDK; it doesnt take it. If I need to run a process which need 8 GB RAM on Windows; how can I achieve it ? Do we have any JDK provided by any other provider which could support it ? Memcached provides us additional cache which can be used... but that is not I am looking for. Suppose I need to run my jMeter with 8 GB RAM on my windows box; Memcached wont help for sure.. Is there any provider which provides me with this ? Previosly I thought Terracotta does that; but looks like that also is like Memcached. I am using Windows 7. If needed I can use Windows Server also.. I just need to get it running.

LINQ EF not saving to database...

I guess this is a continuation of the last question I asked: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2587542/bulk-insert-and-update-with-ado-net-entity-framework. I am not getting any errors while doing inserts yet no data is actually going into my DB. My DB is a SDF file (SQL CE). Any ideas what to check?
