• Can you use Github App with Beanstalk?

  Being new to Git, I wanted to use a GUI (Windows based) and preferred the Github App. However, I would like to integrate this site with a Beanstalkapp account. I'm pretty sure this is possible, but I can't figure it out. Inside of the Github app, I navigate to my repository. When I choose "Tools Settings...", I place the Git Clone URL for the repository provided by Beanstalk into the "Primary Remote (origin)" field in my Github app. Now when I click "Publish" (which says "Click to publish this branch to server" when I hover over it) it changes to "Publishing...". After a few seconds, I get this error: server failure The remote server disconnected. Try again later, or if this persists, contact [email protected] I am pretty sure I set the SSH keys up properly (never done this before). I added the key to both the Beanstalkapp and my Github web account.

• What is the right way to serve dynamically generated images using Apache and mod_perl?

  I have an Apache2/mod_perl2 system up and running. I'm using GD to create an image on the fly, and I'm then printing it like this: $r->content_type('image/png'); binmode STDOUT; print $im->png; But is this the correct way to do things in mod_perl2? (Ignore the fact that I'm generating an image on the fly and not caching it etc ...)

  Hello all, I am pretty new to the Zend framework and looking to build an application with pretty tight password security. I have been trying to follow the user guides in relation to password salting but haven't had any luck so far. I have setup my database and table adapter (As described in the documentation on the Zend Framework site but it didn't seem to finish the example (or I am not following well enough!) I have started with: $authAdapter = new Zend_Auth_Adapter_DbTable($dbAdapter, 'users', 'username', 'password', "MD5(CONCAT('".Zend_Registry::get('staticSalt')."', ?, password_salt))" ); But from here, what is done with the password salt?   I've looked into some questions here where the "best" programming books are listed and then thought why there isn't a question concerning speeches yet. I think that speeches or presentations from developers or even creators of programming languages which were or are heavily used at some point are particulary interesting. One of my favorite speeches was recommended to me by someone here on SO: The future of C# I also like Guido van Rossum's speeches but he sometimes seems pretty nervous. Another in my opinion good presentation would be the Google tech talk about Go. Which (recorded) programming presentations/speeches are worth watching? edit: Made this a community wiki as the answer would probably be a pretty long list.

• No Secure Random Number Generators Available in JDK

  Hi, I am currently running JDK 6 on Windows 7 and have installed the Unlimited Strength Policy Files. I wrote a Java app some time ago which used to work but now fails, giving an error message indicating that the SHA1PRNG SecureRandom is not available. I have tried printing a list of cryptographic providers available on the platform and it would appear that there are no secure random number generators available - does anyone have any idea why this might be? • ASP.NET (AJAX) UI Design Tools for Artistically Challenged?

  I'm building an application but I'm artistically challenged and I'd rather not spend my time writing widgets (e.g. ability to collapse/expand/close/drag-drop) if there is already controls available. I've worked with the Microsoft AJAX Control Toolkit - but these tools still require a lot of work to get a working widget (which in my case, won't look too pretty). The CollapsiblePanel is pretty nice - but then you have to program in the minimize button, close button, maximize button, etc. Looking for suggestions that will help me design better UI faster...

• Which SOA architecture is most appropriate for a Java application?

  I am currently working on a pretty large Java 6 application where we are looking to split some of our functionality out into a service oriented architecture. It seems that the primary SOA framework for the application space is OSGi and I have been looking into Felix and Knopplerfish but I wanted to make sure that this isn't my only option. Does it make sense to use an actual web service protocol for our application like SOAP, even though we are not building a web app? Is this even acceptable? Have any of you used an implementation of OSGi (Felix, etc.) with your desktop application? if so, how did it go? Do you know of anything better? We're all pretty new to SOA here so any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How can I get the associated ref path for a git SHA?

  Hi, I want to be able to pass anything to a git command (maybe its a SHA, maybe it's just something like "origin/master" or "devel/epxerimental" etc.) and git tells me the ref path of the branch that the passed something lives in, e.g. <git_command> 0dc27819b8e9 => output: refs/heads/master <git_command> xyz/test => output: refs/remotes/xyz/master ... I've been looking at git show or git log or git rev-parse and apart from --pretty=format:%d I couldn't find anything. (--pretty=format:%d output is quite strange with lotsa free space and empty lines and sometimes more than one ref paths are on one line bunched together). There has to be a better way? • How to get an internship with a low GPA?

  A lot of changed majors and some other mitigating circumstances have left me with a pretty low GPA. My GPA in the last couple of semesters hasn't been stellar, but my grades have gotten a LOT better. I want to try and start putting in some resumes to get a good internship this summer. I do think that I have some decent experience for someone at my level, but I see my GPA being a pretty big potential stumbling block. Is there anything I can do to help my chances of getting a good internship? (For the record, the mitigating circumstances aren't something I'd feel comfortable discussing with a potential employer. I'd prefer getting a job by proving my merit, not making excuses.)

  I'm pretty experienced with Perl and Ruby but new to Python so I'm hoping someone can show me the Pythonic way to accomplish the following task. I want to compare several lines against multiple regular expressions and retrieve the matching group. In Ruby it would be something like this: STDIN.each_line do |line| case line when /^A:(.*?)$/ then puts "FOO: #{$1}" when /^B:(.*?)$/ then puts "BAR: #{$1}" # when ... else puts "NO MATCH: #{line}" end end My attempts in Python are turning out pretty ugly because the matching group is returned from a call to match/search on a regular expression and Python has no assignment in conditionals or switch statements. What's the Pythonic way to do (or think!) about this problem?

• Cast/initialize submodels of a Backbone Model

  I think I have a pretty simple problem that is just pretty difficult to word and therefore hard to find a solution for. Setup: PathCollection is a Backbone.Collection of Paths Path is a Backbone.Model which contains NodeCollection (which is a Backbone.Collection) and EdgeCollection (which is a Backbone.Collection). When I fetch PathCollection paths = new PathCollection() paths.fetch() obviously, Paths get instantiated. However, I'm missing the spot where I can allow a Path to instantiate its submodels from the attribute hashes. I can't really use parse, right? Basically im looking for the entry point for a model when its instantiated and set with attributes. I feel like there must be some convention for it.

• Suggestions for a very easy to edit CMS?

  I need advice/suggestions. At my place of work - we have a large data set. We would like to server the data up as editable html pages. (Its mostly lists of simple text) We would like to add data, change it's order, update text etc...from the editable pages. It has to have a pretty low bar for usability and WYSIWYG is a must. The folks who will edit are not programmers by a long shot. We are not sure Wiki will work. It might have to do - but not sure. Changes have to be tracked and written back into the DB I am thinking some kind of open source CMS might work? Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal - something that can get us up and running pretty quickly. I really am open to suggestions - not sure where to begin on this one. Thanks all

• Implementing Skip List in C++

  [SOLVED] So I decided to try and create a sorted doubly linked skip list... I'm pretty sure I have a good grasp of how it works. When you insert x the program searches the base list for the appropriate place to put x (since it is sorted), (conceptually) flips a coin, and if the "coin" lands on a then that element is added to the list above it(or a new list is created with element in it), linked to the element below it, and the coin is flipped again, etc. If the "coin" lands on b at anytime then the insertion is over. You must also have a -infinite stored in every list as the starting point so that it isn't possible to insert a value that is less than the starting point (meaning that it could never be found.) To search for x, you start at the "top-left" (highest list lowest value) and "move right" to the next element. If the value is less than x than you continue to the next element, etc. until you have "gone too far" and the value is greater than x. In this case you go back to the last element and move down a level, continuing this chain until you either find x or x is never found. To delete x you simply search x and delete it every time it comes up in the lists. For now, I'm simply going to make a skip list that stores numbers. I don't think there is anything in the STL that can assist me, so I will need to create a class List that holds an integer value and has member functions, search, delete, and insert. The problem I'm having is dealing with links. I'm pretty sure I could create a class to handle the "horizontal" links with a pointer to the previous element and the element in front, but I'm not sure how to deal with the "vertical" links (point to corresponding element in other list?) If any of my logic is flawed please tell me, but my main questions are: How to deal with vertical links and whether my link idea is correct Now that I read my class List idea I'm thinking that a List should hold a vector of integers rather than a single integer. In fact I'm pretty positive, but would just like some validation. I'm assuming the coin flip would simply call int function where rand()%2 returns a value of 0 or 1 and if it's 0 then a the value "levels up" and if it's 0 then the insert is over. Is this incorrect? How to store a value similar to -infinite? Edit: I've started writing some code and am considering how to handle the List constructor....I'm guessing that on its construction, the "-infinite" value should be stored in the vectorname[0] element and I can just call insert on it after its creation to put the x in the appropriate place.

  I've got a string like this: #################### Section One #################### Data A Data B #################### Section Two #################### Data C Data D etc. I want to parse it into something like: $arr( 'Section One' => array('Data A', 'Data B'), 'Section Two' => array('Data C', 'Data D') ) At first I tried this: $sections = preg_split("/(\r?\n)(\r?\n)#/", $file_content); The problem is, the file isn't perfectly clean: sometimes there are different numbers of blank lines between the sections, or blank spaces between data rows. The section head pattern itself seems to be relatively consistent: #################### Section Title #################### The number of #'s is probably consistent, but I don't want to count on it. The white space on the title line is pretty random. Once I have it split into sections, I think it'll be pretty straightforward, but any help writing a killer reg ex to get it there would be appreciated. (Or if there's a better approach than reg ex...)

• Blackberry license screen agreement like Facebook

  Hi, I have a "basic" license agreement screen for now, a Screen with a title set and vertical field containing a textfield, separatorfield and then 2 buttons (accept or decline). The license is pretty long, it's annoying going all the way down (except with the storm it's pretty easy) and I want a kind of popup screen showing the license and the 2 buttons at the bottom. To give you an example, the exact SAME as the Facebook or App World application's license screen agreement! When you scroll the text, it's going a lot faster and it's visualy great. Thank you!
