  I am working in google spreadsheets and I am trying to do some counting that takes into consideration cell values across multiple cells in each row. Here's my table: |AUTHOR| |ARTICLE| |VERSION| |PRE-SELECTED| ANDREW GOLF STREAM 1 X ANDREW GOLF STREAM 2 X ANDREW HURRICANES 1 JOHN CAPE COD 1 X JOHN GOLF STREAM 1 (Google doc here) Each person can submit multiple articles as well as multiple versions of the same article. Sometimes different people submit different articles that happen to be identically named (Andrew and John both submitted different articles called "Golf Stream"). Multiple versions written by the same person do not count as unique, but articles with the same title written by different people do count as unique. So, I am looking to find a formula that Counts the number of unique articles that have been submitted [4] (without having to manually create extra columns for doing CONCATS, if possible) It would also be great to find formulas that: Count the number of unique articles that have been pre-selected (marked "X" in "PRE-SELECTED" column) [2] Count the number of unique articles that have only 1 version [4] Count the number of unique articles that have more than 1 of their versions pre-selected 1 Thank you so much! • Error "fileid changed" when accessing files over NFS

  I have an nfs-kernel-server configured and running on Ubuntu 10.04 Server. /export THIRD_SERVER_IP(rw,fsid=0,insecure,no_subtree_check,async) SECOND_SERVER_IP(rw,fsid=0,insecure,no_subtree_check,async) /export/ebs THIRD_SERVER_IP(rw,fsid=0,insecure,no_subtree_check,async) SECOND_SERVER_IP(rw,nohide,insecure,no_subtree_check,async) I mounted the exported folder to the second server: mount -t nfs4 -o proto=tcp,port=2049 NFS_SERVER_IP_HERE:/ebs /ebs and it works just fine. • Sending files with iChat doesnt work in Snow Leopard

  My girlfriend and I often sit in the lounge looking at stuff online and sending it to each other to look at. So sometimes we drag images into an iChat and it will appear in the other persons iChat window. The ability to do this seems to have broken with the upgrade to 10.6, and the issue persists over both of our laptops and my iMac. The following is a scheenshot of what happens. The image that appears in my window is from me dragging it in there, but the other person cannot see it, and the next bubble is the other person attempting to send me an image, but I only ever see that little white circle for a while then it dissapears. Is this broken for everyone?

• 3 monitors windows xp

  I have a laptop mounted to a dock. When I try to use 2 monitors using dualview everything works fine I get my image across 2 monitors, but when I connect the third one I can't use it although its recognized. Here's what I'd like to do, I'd like to get dual view from my laptop across two monitors, and I have a remote machine connecting to it via remote desktop. I'd like to have that displayed on the third monitor. Is that possible? or some other combination?

• IIS - Forwarding requests to a folder to another port

  Context I currently installed Glassfish 3 in a server that currently holds ASP and PHP inside Internet Information Server 7 so we can start moving to a new system architecture (the information system is being remade). Obviously, Glassfish uses another port and without too much configuration (all I had to do is to install it) it worked. If I write www.domain.com:8080, the person will be redirected to the Glassfish server. Issue Obviously I don't want the person to write the port! I also believe it might also hold some security issues. Requirement I need the server to take an address of the form www.domain.com/gf or new.domain.com or something alike, and when it receives such a request, "redirect" (masking the URL) the user to the Glassfish website (www.domain.com:8080). • Skype Optimization - Port Forwarding on a Router

  I was watching this Video which talked about using port-forwarding to optimize your LAN for skype calls. According to the video, as explained in the first couple of minutes in the video, the reason you would need optimization is because if the person your call has a firewall setup, your connection has to go-through a third-party computer to connect to them. I believe I stated this correct (maybe not). None the less, my question is this: do both parties on the call need to enable port forwarding to optimize skype, or just one party (person)?

• Disable Memory Modules In BIOS for Testing Purposes (Optimize Nehalem/Gulftown Memory Performance)

  I recently acquired an HP Z800 with two Intel Xeon X5650 (Gulftown) 6 core processors. The person that configured the system chose 16GB (8 x 2GB DDR3-1333). I'm assuming this person was unaware these processors have 3 memory channels and to optimize memory performance one should choose memory in multiples of three. Based on this information, I have a question: By entering the BIOS, can I disable the bank on each processor that has the single memory module? If so, will this have any adverse effects or behave differently than physically removing the modules? I ask due to the fact that I prefer to store the extra memory in the system if it truly behaves as if the memory is not even there. Also, I see this as an opportunity to test 12GB vs. 16GB to see if there is a noticeable difference. Note: According to http://www.delltechcenter.com/page/04-08-2009+-+Nehalem+and+Memory+Configurations?t=anon, the current configuration reduces the overall data transfer speed to 1066 and in addition, the memory bandwidth goes down by about 23%.

  My company recently mandated a switch from Skype to Office Communicator for IM / voice chat. While Skype was never the be all and end all of VOIP, it was at least usable. With Communicator, if one person is talking, everyone else is basically silent (or as good as) so a normal conversation is impossible. No one can interrupt anyone else, if two people start talking at once it's a crap shoot who gets to be heard and often the person who is inaudible doesn't know it. There do not seem to be any client side settings to fix this. Is there anything that can be done server side or is it just rubbish?

• Oracle data warehouse design - fact table acting as a dimension?

  THANKS: Both answers here are very helpful, but I could only pick one. I really appreciate the advice! our datawarehouse will be used more for workflow reports than traditional analytical reports. Our users care about "current picture" far more than history. (though history matters, too.) We are a government entity that does not have costs or related calculations. Mostly just counts of people within given locations and with related history. We are using Oracle, and I have found distinct advantage in using the star join whenever possible and would like to rearchitect everything to as closely resemble the star schema as is reasonable for our business uses. Speed in this DW is vital, and a number of tests have already proven the star schema approach to me. Our "person" table is key - it contains over 4 million records and will be the most frequently used source in queries. It can be seen at the center of a star with multiple dimensions (like age, gender, affiliation, location, etc.). It is a very LONG table, particularly when I join it to the address and contact information. However, it is more like a dimension table when we start looking at history. For example, there are two different history tables that have a person key pointing to the person table. One has over 20 million records and the other has almost 50 million and grows daily. Is this table a fact table or a dimension table? Can one work as both? If so, is that going to be a big performance problem? Is it common to query more off of a dimension than a fact? What happens if a DIFFERENT fact table that uses the person table as a dimension is actually only 60,000 records (much smaller.). I think my problem is that our data and use of it does not fit with the commonly use examples of star schemas. CLARIFICATION: Some good thoughts have been added below, but perhaps I left too much out to really explain well. Here's some more info: We handle a voter database. We don't have any measures except voter counts by various groups: voter counts by party, by age, by location; voter counts by ballot type and election, by ballot status and election, etc. We do have a "voting history" log as well as an activity audit log (change of address, party, etc.). We have information on which voters are election workers and all that related information. I figure I'll get to the peripheral stuff later. For now I'm focusing on our two major "business processes": voter registration(which IS a voter.) and election turnout. In the first, voter is a fact. In the second, voter is a dimension, along with party, election, and type of ballot. (and in case anyone is worried - no we don't know HOW people vote. Just that they do. LOL ) I hope that clarifies things a bit.

• What is the best package repository for Debian ?

  Hello everybody I have a question regarding packages repository in Debian (Lenny). A new server at rackspace cloud service comes with nothing (plain system) so i had to upgrade system and install all necessary packages by myself. But the problem is that default repositories does not provide newer versions of software i need (PHP is 5.2.6, comparing to 5.2.13). In CentOS i used to get all new packages from third-party sources, which works really well till now. I have talked to guys from rackspace about it and looks like they cant provide anything except kernel headers. And i dont really want to build from source. So, whats the way to get newer software ? Any good third party sources? Thanks.

• Two virtual computers using one laptop?

  Hi, I have a laptop and an external display. I am able to use the external display either as extended desktop OR duplicate desktop. I also use a separate keyboard and mouse. So effectively, the laptop acts just as a box without display. I want to know is it possible to use the laptop as 2 virtual PCs. (with separate control). I.E., one person uses the laptop as a laptop, and other person can simultaneously connect a keyboard and mouse and the external display and effectively get a second PC. OS I am using - windows (thought solution for other OSes are welcome). Laptop is a Dell Precision M6300. thanks JP

• IIS 401.3 - Unauthorized on only 1 server out of 3 set up for network load balancing

  Over the weekend our Server Admin set up two virtual Windows 2008 machines with IIS installed and set them up under NLB. I came in and changed the application pool the website was running under to our domain account that has proper access to the database and the file share hosting our .NET web application Sitefinity, and changed it to .NET 4 Integrated. NLB and everything was running fine on both servers. He brought up the third server for our cluster on Tuesday and I performed the same actions.. The only difference was that I was given admin rights for the third server so I could set it up remotely instead of going to his office. He has full control over the share and NTFS perms on \\hostname\Sitefinity and I believe I only had read access. I pointed the web site to the same \\hostname\Sitefinity\sitename share that the others were on and the authentication/authorization test settings passed. I hit the site from http://localhost (like I did successfully from the other two before trying the cluster's IP address) and I received a HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized. I've verified many times that the application pool is running under the same service account. I tried hitting just a simple test.htm.. works fine on both of the first two servers but I get the same 401.3 on the third. I copied my dev project to the local inetpub directory and re-pointed the website and that ran perfectly. I turned on Failed Request Tracing and it acts like it's still running the local IUSR account I guess (instead of my domain account)? Here is an excerpt of the File Cache Access Start and the error from the trace: FileName \\hostname\sitefinity\sitename\test.htm UserName IUSR DomainName NT AUTHORITY ---------- Successful false FileFromCache false FileAddedToCache false FileDirmoned true LastModCheckErrorIgnored true ErrorCode 2147942405 LastModifiedTime ErrorCode Access is denied. (0x80070005) ---------- My personal AD account was then granted read/write perms to the share so I created a new application pool and set the site under it in case there was an issue with the application pool but no success. I created another under my own account and it still failed. It just seems like maybe it's not trying to access the files under the account my application pools are running under although that's the only way I've done things before. I set the Physicial Path Credentials in Advanced Settings on the site to the service account and it threw a 500 error of some sort so I assume that's not the answer (and I don't have to do it on the other servers). It's like somehow I'm trying to force impersonation on the IUSR account or something?

• Tomcat and IIS6 on one server, multiple websites

  Windows Server 2003 with IIS6 and Tomcat 6.0.26. Three sites running on this server. One is PHP, one is ASP and the third uses Tomcat. The first two work flawlessly. The third is being a pain. Tomcat is installed and if called on the server itself by IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 shows the welcome page. Calling the same address from an external machine gives a 'could not connect' error. Calling the ip address from within the server on standard port 80 gives me an error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE). Have tried using httpcfg to force listening only on ports within the ip range I'm using in a manner similar to question 35650 located here on serverfault but with no success. There are actually ten ip addresses on this machine but I'm only using three of them at this point. Any pointers on troubleshooting this would be appreciated!

• Disable antialiasing for a specific GDI device context

  I'm using a third party library to render an image to a GDI DC and I need to ensure that any text is rendered without any smoothing/antialiasing so that I can convert the image to a predefined palette with indexed colors. The third party library i'm using for rendering doesn't support this and just renders text as per the current windows settings for font rendering. They've also said that it's unlikely they'll add the ability to switch anti-aliasing off any time soon. The best work around I've found so far is to call the third party library in this way (error handling and prior settings checks ommitted for brevity): private static void SetFontSmoothing(bool enabled) { int pv = 0; SystemParametersInfo(Spi.SetFontSmoothing, enabled ? 1 : 0, ref pv, Spif.None); } // snip Graphics graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap) IntPtr deviceContext = graphics.GetHdc(); SetFontSmoothing(false); thirdPartyComponent.Render(deviceContext); SetFontSmoothing(true); This obviously has a horrible effect on the operating system, other applications flicker from cleartype enabled to disabled and back every time I render the image. So the question is, does anyone know how I can alter the font rendering settings for a specific DC? Even if I could just make the changes process or thread specific instead of affecting the whole operating system, that would be a big step forward! (That would give me the option of farming this rendering out to a separate process- the results are written to disk after rendering anyway) EDIT: I'd like to add that I don't mind if the solution is more complex than just a few API calls. I'd even be happy with a solution that involved hooking system dlls if it was only about a days work. EDIT: Background Information The third-party library renders using a palette of about 70 colors. After the image (which is actually a map tile) is rendered to the DC, I convert each pixel from it's 32-bit color back to it's palette index and store the result as an 8bpp greyscale image. This is uploaded to the video card as a texture. During rendering, I re-apply the palette (also stored as a texture) with a pixel shader executing on the video card. This allows me to switch and fade between different palettes instantaneously instead of needing to regenerate all the required tiles. It takes between 10-60 seconds to generate and upload all the tiles for a typical view of the world. EDIT: Renamed GraphicsDevice to Graphics The class GraphicsDevice in the previous version of this question is actually System.Drawing.Graphics. I had renamed it (using GraphicsDevice = ...) because the code in question is in the namespace MyCompany.Graphics and the compiler wasn't able resolve it properly. EDIT: Success! I even managed to port the PatchIat function below to C# with the help of Marshal.GetFunctionPointerForDelegate. The .NET interop team really did a fantastic job! • Best choice for off-site backup: dd vs tar

  I have two 1TB single-partition hard disks configured as RAID1, of which I would like to make an off-site backup on a third disk, which I am still to buy. The idea is to store the backup at a relative's house, considerably far away from my place, in the hope that all the information will be safe in the case of a global thermonuclear apocalypse. Of course, this backup would be well encrypted. What I still have to decide is whether I am going to simply tar the entire partition or, instead, use dd to create an image of the disks. Is there any non-trivial difference between these two approaches that I could be overlooking? This off-site backup would be updated no more than two or three times a year, in the best of the cases, so performance should not be a factor to be pondered at all. What, and why, would you use if you were me? dd, tar, or a third option?

  We currently have our backups managed by a third party company. There are a bunch of agent jobs created that take full backups (4 times a day) and transaction log backups (4 times an hour). We now want to manage our backups in house, but don't want to disable the third party's jobs until we are sure that we have everything configured correctly internally So I am proposing to have a short period (say, a couple of days) where backups are being taken both by the old and the new system. I am wondering what the ramifications of having these two different systems both manage backups, and the potential pitfalls of having backups taken simultaneously. Is this even supported? If so, and bearing in mind that the system can cope with one backup without any noticeable performance degradation, is it fairly logical to assume that it should be able to cope with two simultaneous backups? Currently the load on the server is fairly light and it rarely struggles. Any advice is appreciated

  I have a product and we are running a campaign for it to allow users to download a trial version. My questions is there any way to detect multiple downloads from the same computer but behind a proxy. For example if a person uses a proxy server, changes his/her ip and downloads our trial version multiple times from different Ip's, is there a way to detect that it is the same person who's downloading the s/w. We use only Name and Email addresses to be entered before downloading our s/w and that can easily be created. We cannot add any other fields to the form (like phoneno.)

I'm familiar already with loading EPUB-format titles through iBooks – unfortunately, iBooks doesn't read PDFs so I am looking at using a third-party application. I know many such third-party media viewer applications for the iPad support download from web or email, but that's a hassle. I've heard iTunes 9.1 added support for USB File Transfer, specifically for iPad devices. How does USB File Transfer work in iTunes, for transferring files from my PC to my iPad? • Printer options follow Office documents

  One person (John) creates an Office document, and prints this document to his HP printer which is using HP Universal Printing PS (v4.7) driver. He has got Job Storage (Personal job) enabled for this printer, with custom username and a personal PIN. He later sends this document in an e-mail to his colleagues. Another person (Anne) opens the document, and tries to print the document to her HP printer (also using HP Universal Printing driver), but is not able to fetch it on the printer. The Job Storage options from Johns computer follows the Office Excel document, so Anne has to change this manually to her username and her PIN before she can print. What on earth is causing this, and how do we fix it?

• Allow email from a particular sender through spam filter

  We are running exchange 2010 and are using the built in anti-spam feature. We have set up Content Filtering, IP Block List Providers, Sender ID, Sender Reputation and it filters out most of the junk but it also quarantines all emails from one of our customers. It is being quarantined because of the Content Filter agent (Report Below). How can I add an exception for this email address to the Content Filter. I can see how to setup an exception for a delivery address ("Don't filter messages sent TO the following recipients") but I want to add [email protected] to our safe list. I don't want to add the whole domain as it is a very popular ISP in Australia and we often get junk from them.
