• Moving distribution lists in Public Folders to Sharepoint Contacts?

  Now I know that if I connect to contact list in Sharepoint and drag and drop everything from the Exchange Public Folder contact list to the Sharepoint Contact list (connected through Outlook) it will transfer everything in the contact list to the sharepoint contact list. What about distribution lists? Has anyone had a workaround for this? If a contact list is full of distribution lists the Contacts won't migrate over and the Sync Issues - Local Failures folder is populated with all the distribution lists that couldn't be migrated. Is there a way to migrate distribution lists? Any ideas how to set up the contact list like a contact list of distrubition lists? How would that contact list look on sharepoint? Should I just leave the contact lists that have distribution lists on public folders?

  I have a whole bunch of domains with my current web host and when i got the package i got it with a few gig of web space and a bunch of mysql databases but times have changed and now and i don't use the hosting im paying for, and i just my host as a DNS server to forward everything else where. The process of removing the host is going to require me to transfer all the domains to another package etc... which is going to cause disruption so my question is: Who is the best provider for DNS only? I don't want any space or mail just someone to hold the domains and let me set any DNS options I want (A/MX/CNAME records for everything, even possibly the ability to point my domains at my own DNS server).

• How can I make sftp accounts that can only access their home directory?

  I'm using Ubuntu Server 9.10. I need to setup 6 accounts for users that will exclusively need sftp. When the user logs in, I need them to only have access to their home directory. I don't want them to be able to navigate to any other places in the file system. I need their ability to type commands to be limited to only the commands needed to view and transfer files back and forth to their home directory. Can anyone offer some guidance on setting thing up this way?

• SMB super slow within LAN between MAC and PC

  I have a windows desktop which stores all my movies, songs and pictures. I have a mac laptop which I would like to access these files. I don't want to utilize the FTP or SCP protocol because I don't want them to be downloaded to my mac. I want to access them as if they are a network mounted disk. So I tried using the native SMB protocol (available in Finder - Go - Connect to server). I tried dragging a file and dropping it onto my MAC's desktop. Surprisingly, I am only able to transfer at a very slow rate of about 1mb/s. Assuming network connectivity is not a problem, has anyone experienced incredible slowness with SMB? Are there alternative protocols for me to use in this case between PC and MAC?

• AFXR problem using gradwell secondary DNS

  Hi All I use Gradwell.com to provide secondary DNS but I keep getting e-mails along the lines of the following saying that it's not working: You have asked us to provide a secondary DNS service for the following domain(s) Unfortunately, the primary DNS server(s) you specified are not permitting the necessary zone transfers from our servers, or they are not answering "SOA" queries for your domain correctly. I have gone through the support procedure and they weren't that helpful. They have suggested the following: Our secondline team have suggested setting the AXFR to use anouther machine. This will ensure that the transfer is not locked down to one machine and should allow any machine to make the request I don't really know what AFXR is and I only have 1 production machine so I can't set the AFXR to use another one! In previous support correspondence we confirmed that I am allowing transfers to the correct IP and that I have the correct ports open on the firewall. I am running Windows Server 2003. What can I do to try and get these zone transfers working? Thanks

  I want to transfer video from a VHS tape to my computer with Arch Linux, using a USB capture device that comes with Roxio Easy VHS to DVD, which I recently bought. I tried to plug in the device, and it was properly recognized. • Folder Size Column on Explorer on Windows Vista/Seven

  I'm a big fan of FolderSize, but unfortunately it works only on Windows XP. Even reading this and this, I'm not convinced that I cannot to have a column showing the folder size on Windows Explorer. Even with all "problems" FolderSize worked like a charm in WindowsXP. In a sysadmin life, FolderSize is explendid. Before select a lot of folders to send to backup in DVDs, I can check directly in Windows Explorer the size of the folders and get a set of folders with 4.3Gb to burn in a DVD. In another situation, I can view in the root folder the size of the bigger folders in the hard drive and start a good strategy of backup/partitioning/transfer to another drive/etc. If desired, I can tell a lot of another needs that in my sysadmin life I need a tool like FolderSize... There is someone that is actively developing a solution to show folder size on Windows Explorer in Vista/Seven Windows? What the problems that I can face if I develop myself that "add-in" for Windows Explorer?

• Windows - Delayed Write Failed error on USB hard drive

  I've got a new Verbatim 1.5TB USB hard drive (Samsung HD154UI) and I'm finding myself completely unable to fill it. I'm using Windows XP. Whenever I try to copy a load of files over, it works for some time (will copy over between 20 and 90GB) but eventually stops with an error saying "The specified path is too deep" - the specified is not too deep, there's nothing more than 2 dirs deep that I'm copying. A balloon pops up at the bottom saying "Windows - Delayed Write Failed" telling me the data could not be copied. This wouldn't be too bad if I could just restart the transfer, but after this error has happened I can't write anything else to the disk - including if I eject it and then connect it to another machine. It just seems completely locked. The only way I can unlock it is to delete everything that I was copying to it. I've tried various USB cables and copying from different machines, and the same thing keeps happening.

  I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 with pure-ftpd version 1.0.35-1. I don't use database for the only user I have (ftpuser1 - localuser), but I want to lock him into his home directory. /ftp/ftpuser1 is the home dir of ftpuser1. /etc/pure-ftpd/conf/ChrootEveryone has the yes string and in /etc/default/pure-ftpd-common VIRTUALCHROOT is set to false, but ftpuser1 can freely walk around. My startup line for pure-ftpd looks like this : /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd -l pam -A -8 UTF-8 -O clf:/var/log/pure-ftpd/transfer.log -u 1000 -E -B So there is the "-A" in it for the ChrootEveryone.

Also, there are chances that I might have overwritten the memory where the deleted data might have existed. Is there any software to do something about that?   I wrote a little bash script and all of a sudden my /var/log folder is completely empty except for the log I created for the bash script. • Corporate IM with video that actually works, suggestions?

  Hi. Does anyone here have a suggestion for a cross-platform IM solution wich will work with voip/video on both Windows (XP and 7) and Mac OS X from 10.4 and upwards? Right now were in a kind of mixed enviroment, with some Mac users using iChat server since they need video support (conference across several offices over VPN), but it wont't work on windows clients. The rest of us are happily using Openfire+Spark, but there's no VoIP or video avaible from what i've found, unless you want to add in several 3rd party software (like red5 and asterisk). Requirements: As said before; must work on both Windows and Mac Internal server (no Skype etc) File transfer between platforms SSO (Single Sign-On) via Active Directory authentication Some sort of screen sharing would be a plus, like switching over to a screen capture (powerpoint, software training etc) We can afford to buy software if that's needed to get this working without any hiccups across platforms. Now we have established a domain controller. Every user has got a domain account. How to include file server into domain so that the permissions would transfer from local accounts to domain accounts? • Apache only transferring partial content from a Samba share

  I have an Apache server running on CentOS 5.3. It currently hosts 12 sites with no known issues. (I say this to point out that up to this point my Apache installation has performed flawlessly) I'm adding a new site where the DocumentRoot of the new VirtualHost is a Samba share. When at the command line of the server I can cp video.m4v ~ and the whole file is copied properly to my home directory. But when I try to access the file from IE/Firefox/Safari/Chrome it only passes back a partial result of 33k. The same thing is happening with my image and audio files. If I make the files local to the server by copying them from the share and then serving them up then the files transfer. Any ideas?

  I am currently developing a project which is mission-critical. The actual domain name is registered with 1 & 1 and I plan on purchasing DynDNS Custom DNS service (which has 5 different geographical locations for DNS) and then another secondary DNS service to make sure my DNS is as failover safe as possible. Does it matter that the registration is with 1 & 1 - are they a weak link in the chain? All I really use them for is to say that DynDNS is my primary DNS nameserver and then my secondary DNS is my other nameserver. I can transfer the registration to DynDNS - Im just not sure if it really matters or not. Thanks

• Can I rely on S3 to keep my data secure?

  I want to back up sensitive personal data to S3 via an rsync-style interface. I'm currently using s3cmd - a great tool - but it doesn't yet support encrypted syncs. This means that while my data is encrypted (via SSL) during transfer, it's stored on their end unencrypted. I want to know if this is a big deal. The S3 FAQ says "Amazon S3 uses proven cryptographic methods to authenticate users... If you would like extra security, there is no restriction on encrypting your data before storing it in Amazon S3." Why would I like extra security? Is there some way my buckets could be opened to prying eyes without my knowing? Or are they just trying to save you when you accidentally change your ACLs and make your buckets world-readable?

• Windows File Sharing - Long Initial Delay

  I have two Windows 7 machines connected to a router. I created a shared folder on machine A, and I can access it from machine B. The transfer speed is great. However, there is sometimes a long initial delay when I try to access the shared folder from machine B. I'll click to open the folder, and windows explorer pauses for a few minutes before actually loading the contents of the folder. After it loads, however, I can navigate the subfolders and edit files with no noticeable delay. Then, some time later, I will get the huge delay on saving a file, after which subsequent saves have no delay. What is the problem here, and how can I fix it?

• Apple Automator "New PDF from Images" maintaining same filename

  I will potentially have 26k of old legacy PICT images to transfer first to PDF for migration. I am using Apple Automator and also the "Dispense Items Incrementally" to loop through it. However, I can't seem to let "New PDF from Images" to remember the original filename. Anyone able to offer some advice :) FYI, I am transforming it to PDF because I can't do it using ImageMagick to convert directly to my ultimate JPEG format. Due to the fact that my PICT was created very long ago and thus has some convert: improper image header error. See this ticket for more information. Thus I am doing a intermediate convert PICT to PDF first, then convert that PDF to JPEG :) The only thing left is the naming of the "Output File Name" which do not allow me to identify original filename. • Forgot to unmount/eject external hard drive, lost moved files. Mac OS X

  So I was using my Mac with my external hard drive connected via USB. I moved about 10 GB of data to it (via drag and drop while holding down the Command key to move the files rather than to copy them). They moved to the drive all right, but as I was having some issues and the Finder crashed after the transfer, I was unable to eject the volume and later everything froze so I had to do a hard restart (hold the power button). When I remounted the volume (plugged the external hard drive back in) it no longer had any of the files which I moved onto it. As it was a lot of data, how can I recover these files?

• How can I solve Windows PPTP VPN issues?

  I'm having persistent problems with Windows PPTP VPN connections. The VPN appears up whilst the tunnel won't transfer traffic (ping to a remote IP within the VPN works for a while, and then fails). The client receives routing information via DHCP. When the connection fails, the routing table is still correct so I don't think it's a routing problem. My internet connection is via an ADSL2 line. There's software to deal with PPTP problems, like TunnelRat, but I don't want to install v1.1 of the .NET framework and I'd rather get to the bottom of the problem (I have multiple VPN connections and some are more unreliable than others). What can I do to get to the bottom of this? Alternatively, what can I do to keep the connection alive?
