    Hi all! Some days ago I had some problems with updates, and this ended up with a problem that I already solved in this question . The problem is that now I want to update again, but it seems that I cannot do it automatically, because when I use the update manager it gets stuck while configuring mysql-server 5.1, in the line : Configuring mysql-server 5.1 (5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10)... I have been looking for some solution but it seems hard because actually I don't know where to start, so any hints are appreciated. Thanks in advance! Alf.

  • Volume display for laptop missing after driver update

    I have a Dell Inspiron 1520, and I just updated my audio drivers to be able to use Stereo Mix. It's a SigmaTel audio driver. Prior to the update, whenever I used the hardware buttons to update volume or mute/unmute speakers, it would always have a nice display like this one: But, for volume instead of screen brightness. The hardware buttons still work fortunately, but the volume display is gone. Is there a place I can configure this setting and re-enable it? The speaker icon in task tray was also disabled with the update, but I re-enabled that from the Control Panel. Is this simply gone with the driver update? Thanks for the help!

    I have an Excel document (2007) with a chart (Clustered Column) that gets its Data Series from cells containing calculated values The calculated values never change directly, but only as a result of other cells in the sheet changing When I change other cells in the sheet, the Data Series cells are recalculated, and show new values - but the Chart based on this Data Series refuses to update automatically I can get the Chart to update by saving/closing, or toggling one of the settings (such as reversing x/y axis and then putting it back), or by re-selecting the Data Series Every solution I have found online doesn't work - I have Calculation set to automatic - Ctrl+Alt+F9 updates everything fine, EXCEPT the chart - I have recreated the chart several times, and on different computers - I have tried VBA scripts like: Application.Calculate Application.CalculateFull Application.CalculateFullRebuild ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAll DoEvents None of these update or refresh the chart I do notice that if I type over my Data Series, actual numbers instead of calculations, it will update the chart - it's as if Excel doesn't want to recognize changes in the calculations Has anyone experienced this before or know what I might do to fix the problem?     I have LENOVO X200 Tablet and I ran the BIOS Update and the computer won't start after the BIOS update. When I ran the BIOS update utility it ran everything fine and asked to restart the computer but it wont start screen is blank. I unplugged the power and took of the battery and put them back and still not starting. Now it has [Power On] indicator light on and screen is not starting. I tried pressing F1 button while trying to start the computer but it doesn't do react to anything. Please help how I can start my Tablet. The update utility is http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-70651 Does any body know if X200 have any kind of hardware switch to reset the BIOS or any thing?     Dear people, My Small Business Server 2003 failed to install this update SP2 for WSUS3.0. The update is not available for rollback. WSUS 3.0 is not to be found in my software configscreen or startup menu. Some files have been deleted from the hard drive and last but not least. The service will not run and .NET runtime errors keep flooding my logs. Question. How to remove an update or program which is not listed in add/remove software anymore. Since the update it fails to run WSUS. Event-id: 0 Category: none Source: .NET Runtime ERROR: This error keeps flooding my logs. I am hesitant to roll back to a system restore point since exchange is running on the same disks.... :)

  • Stop Windows 7 from installing critical updates

    I have disabled Windows Update on Windows 7, but it still downloads and installs critical updates. As with Windows XP, these updates occasionally create problems. But in XP, once I disabled automatic updates, the OS did not override my settings and continue to download and install critical updates. After the most recent critical update to Windows 7, every time I boot up, the USB devices connected to a single port through 4-way hub don't install. I have to unplug the hub from the computer then plug it back in. Then the devices install. I can use System Recovery to solve the immediate problem, but I'd like to disable automatic updates entirely. Why does Windows 7 not respect my settings like Windows XP did?

  • Upgrading php, mysql, and apache

    I have been looking around and have not found a good answer to my question. I currently have php 5.3.3 installed via yum on my centos 6.3 server. I need to upgrade to php 5.10 or later. It is my understanding that you need to find the correct mysql and apache packages that fit with the php install. Can someone please point me in the direction of a an update guide? Btw I am not looking for "yum update httpd php5" this gets me the old 5.3.3 version. Thanks, Kevin.

    Running yum --security check-update returns this message: Security: kernel-3.x.x-x.63 is an installed security update Security: kernel-3.x.x-x.29 is the currently running version I already ran the yum security update on the kernel, but it looks like it didn't change the version running on the system. What needs to be done to make it run the new kernel? Are there any concerns about why it didn't change during the installation process? The yum log just shows installed for the new kernel no error messages.

    We have an isolated enviornment of a few hundred servers in which we use WSUS to push updates too. We have thousands of updates which to manage and push to devices testing along the way to ensure the update will not break anything. What are the best practices that you all follow in your enteprise networks to ensure an update does not go out to all the machines that will break something? We currently have ours broken into customized groups for each type of machine. There is one "Test Group" which has one PC of each type which we apply updates to for error checking. Is this a similar procedure others follow or is their an easier safer way to manage the thousands of WSUS updates?

Products such as MS Office, Windows, MSSQL, etc. Only way I know to get a list of updates, is to go to the update page, and it only shows me ones I do not have. That and this is to assist a friend who I can not see their list of updates. I just need to know if a recent update could address their issue. (Not going to install updates blindly).

  • What's next for all of these Microsoft "overlapping" and "enhanced" products ?

    Recently I attended a road show, organised by MS Gold Partner company in the UK. The products discussed were: SharePoint server (2010 and 2007), Exchange server, Office Communication Server 2007, Exchange hosted services Office Live meeting, Office Communicator, System Center Configuration Manager and Operation Manager, VMware, Windows 7 etc. As Microsoft claims the enhancement in the each product against higher version, I felt that clients are not much interested in all these details. For example Office Communicator, surely they have improved a lot the product and first site all said 'WOW' great product, but nobody wish to pay money for all these extra features. Some argued, they are bogged down by all these increased number of menus. They don't need soft call feature included with mobile call. It apply for all other products as well such as MS office (next what 2 ribbons ?), windows OS and many more. Indeed there must be good features in all these products, but is it worth to spend money and time to update the older system ? Also sometimes these feature will decrease the productivity instead increase it. *So do you think what ever enhancement MS is doing in the products is only for selling purpose, not a real use ?? and I think also keep the developer busy learning the new tools and features. * I am sure some some people here will argue that some people need this sort of features. But I am not talking about NASA or MI5 guys. I am talking of usual businesses and joe public. Any ideas welcome.

    I'm trying to setup josso on an apache tomcat server running on windows. I've installed Apache Tomcat/6.0.26 fro zip file to c:\tomcat then installed josso following the documentation at http://www.josso.org/confluence/display/JOSSO1/Quick+Start started tomcat with c:\tomcat\bin\startup.bat, and noticed the following warnings ADVERTENCIA: [SetPropertiesRule]{Server/Service/Engine/Realm} Setting property ' debug' to '1' did not find a matching property. 21/03/2010 15:55:03 org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.SetPropertiesRule begin ADVERTENCIA: [SetPropertiesRule]{Server/Service/Engine/Host/Valve} Setting prope rty 'appName' to 'josso' did not find a matching property. ... ADVERTENCIA: Bean with key 'josso:type=SSOAuditManager' has been registered as a n MBean but has no exposed attributes or operations ... but then everything seems to work fine, the problem is I can no longer access http://localhost:8080/manager/html using user tomcat /tomcat, as configured in \conf\tomcat-users.xml (before installing josso it worked) I tried with tomcat/tomcatpwd as defined in \lib\josso-credentials.xml and even added tomcat and the manager role to \lib\josso-users.xml, with no luck... Is anybody having the same problem? how can I access tomcat's manager page?   • Windows-mobile app won't run after being closed by Task Manager

    I've inherited some windows-mobile code that I've been bringing up-to-date. I've come across a weird bug, and I was hoping that even though a bit vague, maybe it will spark someone's memory: Running the app (which is basically a glorified Forms app with P/Invoke gps code), I switch to the task manager, and close the app via End Task. Seems to exit fine (no errors and disappears from Task Manager). Unfortunately, the app refuses to start a second time until I reboot the phone or reinstall the CAB. What's worse: this bug is reproducible on a HTC Diamond, but works fine (ie. can run again after EndTask) on an HTC HD2. The only thing I can think of is some kind of timing race between a Dispose() and the Task Manager. Any ideas? I'm also thinking of a workaround - I do have a working "Exit Application" routine that correctly cleans up the app; can I catch the EndTask event in the c# code in order to complete a proper cleanup? Maybe I'm just missing the pain point... all ideas welcome :)

    My situation is: The code is not mine I have two kinds of database: one is Dad, one is Son. In Dad, I have a table to store JNDI name. I will look up Dad using JNDI, create entity manager, and retrieve this table. From these retrieved JNDI names, I will create multiple entity managers using multiple Son databases. The problem is: Son have thousands of entities. It takes each Son database around 10 minutes to load all entities. If there is 4 Son databases, it will be 40 minutes. My question: Is there any way to load all entities and use them for all entity manager? Please look at the code below For each Son JNDI: Map<String, String> puSonProperties = new HashMap<String, String>(); puSonProperties.put("javax.persistence.jtaDataSource", sonJndi); EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("PUSon", puSonProperties); PUSon - All of them use the same persistence unit log.info("Verify entity manager for son: {0} - {1}", sonCode, emSon.find(Son_configuration.class, 0) != null ? "ok" : "failed!"); This is the actual code where the loading of all entities begins. 10 mins.
