  • Software distribution from web server to client using PHP/FTP

    I develop and maintain a number of add-ons and utilities for various widget (mainly aMember) which generally means I need to install php based codes onto other people's systems. Whilst I have a VPS and have access to rsync and all sorts of yummy tools most of the people I deal with have a basic ftp access and that's all folks. To upload from my local system is also a problem as I am satellite based (two-way) so it is fairly slow and expensive and in any case the files are already on my server. So there is no rsync, fxp, ssh and I can't really install anything as it is obviously not my system, they would be justifiably miffed if I started installing file managers or other things onto their sites. What I have been trying to find is a utility that I can run on my server from the web, preferably php based, that will be like a file manager but a bit different. Two panels. LH-Side the local server .. pretty much like a standard FM application RH-Side ability to login via FTP to the clients system Then I can fiddle as required. The closest thing I have found is net2ftp but it doesn't have the gui interface, at the moment I simply ssh into my server power up ncftp and run that way, but something easier to use would be mucho niceness.   • linux to linux, 10TB transfer?

    I've looked at all the previous similar questions, but the answers seemed to be all over the place and no one was moving a lot of data (100GB != 10TB). I've got about 10TB that I need to move from one raid to another, gigabit net, XFS file systems. My biggest concern is having the transfer die midway and not being able to resume easily. Speed would be nice, but ensuring transfer is much more important. Normally I'd just tar & netcat, but the raid I'm moving from has been super flaky as of late and I need to be able to recover and resume if it drops mid process. Should I be looking at rsync?

  • I disconnected my cellphone while transferring files to its Mini SD card. Now the files aren't there

    I use Ubuntu 9.10, and the MiniSD card shows as having the space used as if there were files. Baobab (the disk usage analyzer) shows that the card only has 118 MB used (of the 401 Ubuntu claims there are). Of course, I already tried the obvious (rebooting the phone, adding and removing files, etc.), but I don't want to format my card, because I still have some files on it, the transfer to my computer is slow, and because I use an old wire it fails often.

    The file copying on local discs and network shares, and browsing shared folders is much slower on the Windows 7 than it was on Windows XP. I'm sure everyone encountered this problem, I personally have seen it on many different computers. What would you recommend to speed up these operations?

    hey, i got my development "home" server witch is ubuntu 10, i brought today a computer in order to make a backup to this computer (the development server does also to him self backups every day but im paranoaid so i want to have two backups just in case on diffrent computers) what is the best way to backup the system core of the development server (like norton ghost) & do a full & incrmnt backup of him to the new computer that ive brought? rsync? rdiff? scp? clonezilla?

    I've ported a 'hard disk' using the 'clonehd' advice given on How to easily port VirtualBox machines? But it's not at the latest state, it's probably before any 'snapshot' was taken. I have only copied the 'hard disk', I haven't copied any 'snapshot' mainly because there are so many. I'm interested to transfer the 'hard disk' at it's latest state. How can this be done? (easily and not by coping the entire snapshots, machine etc...)

    Can you please help, I am using this to put the text files made by the batch file into the folder created by the batch file as well. but my problem is that the name is changed of the new folder every time because it is named by the date and time it was created.     I have heard of snapshots or ghost images like this. But I have never used this kind of tool to actually clone a piece of hard drive. I think Norton Partition Magic can do something like this as well, but haven't tried it. So my question is this: How can I duplicate a CRM server application exactly so that I can transfer it to another system? I have a CRM server running LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) and I urgently need to transfer these data to another system without actually installing, configuring the dependencies and then doing the same for the software itself. Has anyone done this or does anyone know how to do this?

  • HP Officejet 7410 AIO: Scanning/copying output is a solid black field

    I recently tried to breathe some life back into an old Officejet 7410 for my parents. The printing is fine, but the scanning and the copying respectively produce images and copies that are mostly solid black, except for the first inch or so from the top of the original page. At first I thought this was a bulb problem, so I replaced it. Unfortunately, the problematic behavior is still there. I've tried resetting to factory defaults. Still no improvement. I don't think this is related to my OS or drivers, since the copying is also affected even when the connected computer is powered off. So... my question(s): What is the cause of this bad behavior? Given that, can my Officejet be repaired? If so, how? Thanks in advance.

    Hi, on Mac, you know there is no 'merge files' when you command+c/command+v some folder on another one, it actually replaces it. I'm simply wondering on what UNIX is this based? Because correct me if I'm wrong, but "cp - R" DOES merge files, no? And that's what I'm doing via the Finder, copying some files and folders... thanks!

    I'm creating a website on German cars. No issues with it, since it's basically a PHP site, and let's say for the sake of argument, there are no server issues. However, I plan to call it "autohaus" (well, for the sake of this scenario anyway, it's not its actual name) The site is not for commercial gain; it's a fansite. Legally, can I use a name for a website if it's a commonly-used one - "autohaus" appears to be this. There are other sites called "Autohaus" but could someone use a similar name for non-commercial, information/educational use? Basically, what's the copyright law for such a situation? Currently my site is only on localhost for now, but what if I did want to release it to the web? Obviously the legal issues have to be taken into account before the site goes live, but there's no Data Protection Act. etc. since it's not selling anything, and no-one's buying anything, and the pictures in it are being used educationally (but that's for another question entirely)] [NOTE: This question is on trademark/names etc. not domains]

  • Word to GIMP pasted image too small

    I paste an image from Microsoft Word 2010 into GIMP 2.6.10 using Edit ? Paste as ? New Image, but the pasted image is less than half-size (1280×800 down to 553×347). Pasting into an existing blank 1280×800 image makes no difference. On the other hand, pasting exactly the same clipboard entry into Windows Paint works beautifully, producing a razor-sharp 1280×800 image, and furthermore, pressing Ctrl+C in Paint, then going to Gimp and pressing Shift+Ctrl+V in Gimp produces the correct full-size image in Gimp too. Why does pasting an image directly from Word to Gimp reduce the image size? How can I make it paste the correct image size without having to go via Paint? UPDATE: I just noticed that cutting the image from Word and pasting back into the same document also loses definition. Paint must be magical.

    So I have a table in MS Word which has two columns. In the second column the text is spread on multiple lines, ie I have pressed 'Enter' to achieve this. When I paste into Excel, it converts these separate lines into separate cells. What I want it to do is to keep the lines in the same cell, just on different lines, ie what would happen if I were to press Alt+Enter in a cell in excel. How would I go about this?

    I have a folder named "C:\Jobs\job#1" , "C:\Jobs\job#2" "C:\Jobs\job#3" etc and a lot of directories and sub-directories under it. I want to get the all the directories under Jobs and xcopy them to C:\backup. Then I want to xcopy all the files under each Job#1, 2 ,3 etc. to C:\backup\job#1\month\\*.* To make it clearer. Source dir = C:\Jobs\job#1\"myfiles&dir" Destination dir = C:\Backup\job#1\month\"myfiles&dir" then do the next folder Source dir = C:\Jobs\job#2\"myfiles&dir" Destination dir = C:\Backup\job#2\month\"myfiles&dir" ...until all folders are back-up. Since the job folder keep increasing, by doing it this way I don't have to add extra code on this script except modify the month. Thank you.

  • Program to swap files between drives?

    Has anyone built a program/script to transfer files between 2 hard drives, but like if both are near full....so one copies 1 file over then the other copies the other file, then they delete the files that were copied? Kind of annoying, have a 6tb raid at about 4tb full, then 1 4.5tb basically full, can't really swap them easily....without doing many copies and deletes of files.... Anyone know a way to make them just swap? lol

  • Outlook 2007 - repainting (?) problems when copying and pasting between windows: have to switch focus before pasted text is visible

    For some time now I've had a problem when copying and pasting between Outlook 2007 windows, or from other office apps into Outlook 2007. When I paste, say into a new email, the email window's text area goes blank. The window isn't 'not responding', the To and Subject contents are still visible, but it looks like all the text in the email has been deleted. Initially I thought it was just taking ages to paste, but it turns out I need to switch focus to another window and then switch focus back to the Outlook window. Only then does the body of the email repaint itself. It's at the point that I click onto the Outlook window that the body area changes from blank white to showing all the text that was there before plus the pasted text. Any ideas? I've updated my graphics driver. Not sure what else it could be. I do sometimes have similar problems in Visual Studio 2010 too: when I paste text into a code window it doesn't show immediately, but the rest of the window shows what was there before I pasted. I'm using Win XP with all updates applid, on a Dell Vostro 1510.

    I have a wordpress website. I upload my pictures to the media library. And when I import a picture in a post, you get the options, one of which ask you what size to display it in. And doing this results in creating a new image file that is a different size, rather than wordpress using html to control the size of the image.   • Sending files through ssh

    I need to send files to a server using ssh. I have never used ssh so this is being really frustrating to me. Mention the client (me) is using windows and the server is using Ubuntu. I connected to the server using ssh2 ip, and then loging with an account I have. Now, I would like to send my files to a folder in the server, so, I moved to the folder and I used this command: scp test.txt user_name@host_direction server_folder_destination And it always return that it can't do 'stat' over test.txt, the file doesn't exist, and so. I'm assuming ssh2 can't see the file in my computer root (C:), so I tried to specifie more and added: C:\test.txt, but apear the same error. I don't know what is happening. Any hints please? Thanks

  • Excel freezes when copying / cutting to paste elsewhere

    When cutting/copying some cells to paste them into another sheet/page, sometimes Excel freezes/locks up and fades out. At the top toolbar it says in brackets "not responding". Eventually, I must click 'X' to close the program. It offers to wait for the program to respond, but never does – it just does nothing until I finally close it, where it offers to recover files etc. Is there an issue with memory here? What can I do to stop it locking up?
