Database cache that I'm not aware of?

I'm using asp.net mvc, linq2sql, iis7 and sqlserver express 2008. I get these intermittent server errors, primary key conflicts on insertion. I'm using a different setup on my development computer so I can't debug. After a while they go away. Restarting iis helps. I'm getting the feeling there is cache somewhere that I'm not aware of. Can somebody help me sort out these errors? Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.EnquiryType' with unique index 'IX_EnquiryType'. Edits regarding Venemos answer Is it possible that another application is also accessing the same database simultaneously? Yes there is, but not this particular table and no inserts or updates. There is one other table with which I experience the same problem but it has to do with a different part of the model. How often an in what context do you create a new DataContext instance? Only once, using the singleton pattern. Are the primary keys generated by the database or by the application? Database. Which version of ASP.NET MVC and which version of .NET are you using? RC2 and 3.5.

JavaScript change to DropDownList.SelectedIndex not submitted

Hi So, I have a form to submit fighters. You write his/her name, country, and then the team they fight for + the team's country. When you start typing the name I have constructed my own Ajax AutoCompleter. It will find existing fighters that might match. When you click on one of the suggestions it will populate up to four fields depending on existing data in the database. If you're lucky the fighter already exists with information on country, team, and the team's country. The problems starts when submitting. The JavaScript follows and just get's the id of the country to select (also the value of the select-option), and the select-element itself. function dropdownSelect(value, element) { var dropdown = document.getElementById(element); for (var i = 0; i < dropdown.options.length; i++) { if (dropdown.options[i].value == value) { dropdown.options[i].selected = true; return true; } } } When submitting the ASP.NET-code halt's and says that my country-field is null. So my JavaScript-change of selected field couldn't be read by ASP.NET. Is this a limitation of how ASP.NET works? Or a limitation of my skills? ;P

Is MarshalByRefObject special?

.NET has a thing called remoting where you can pass objects around between separate appdomains or even physical machines. I don't fully understand how the magic is done, hence this question. In remoting there are two base ways of passing objects around - either they can be serialized (converted to a bunch of bytes and the rebuilt at the other end) or they can inherit from MarshalByRefObject, in which case .NET makes some transparent proxies and all method calls are forwarded back to the original instance. This is pretty cool and works like magic. And I don't like magic in programming. Looking at the MarshalByRefObject with the Reflector I don't see anything that would set it apart from any other typical object. Not even a weird internal attribute or anything. So how is the whole transparent proxy thing organized? Can I make such a mechanism myself? Can I make an alternate MyMarshalByRefObject which would not inherit from MarshalByRefObject but would still act the same? Or is MarshalByRefObject receiving some special treatment by the .NET engine itself and the whole remoting feat is non-duplicatable by mere mortals?

SSIS String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated.

When I run SSIS package from BIDS it runs fine without any error / problem. When I try to call it through a ASP.NET website I get the following error - "String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated." I checked all the columns / data to see if anything is exceeding the limit, everything is fine. I can run the package through command line using dtexec C:dtexec /f "C:\temp\MyTempPackage.dtsx", it executes without any problem . The problem is when I try to run it through ASP.NET. The following is the code that I am trying to use - //DTS Runtime Application Application app = new Application(); //DTS Package Package package = app.LoadPackage(packagePath, null); //Execute and Get the result DTSExecResult result = package.Execute(); I am making a call to a webservice from asp.net which has the above code. Both the webservice and website have identity impersonation enabled. I have identity enabled in my web.config for this <identity impersonate="true" userName="MyUserName" password="MyPassword"/> This problem is only when I am trying to import a Excel file (.xlsx) when I import a .txt file everything is fine. Excel Import blew up in both 32bit and 64bit enviornments. Help on how to make this to work is greatly appreciated.

Does running IIS7 in classic mode affect MVC output caching?

I have a need to run an application in classic mode for backwards compatibility with a specific application, and am trying to understand what kind of impact that will have on the performance of an MVC application that is running on the site. If we put a few static file maps (for .js, .css, .png, etc) above the ASP.NET wildcard map to reduce the amount of processing by the ASP.NET handler, will we be approaching the integrated mode in terms of performance? The thing i'm primarily concerned with is any effect this might have on output caching. I understand that integrated mode might (?) allow for the output cache to handle non ASP.NET content, but that isn't really a concern. We're more interested in ensuring that the MVC application has full use of the output cache. Empirically i've found that the two configurations operate on par when things go well, but if the page references resources that are not available, the integrated mode tends to fail much more quickly than the classic mode (e.g. 500 ms vs 10 seconds), reducing 'hang time' on the page load. Access to message queuing system is denied MSMQ?

My problem is a little confusing. I have 2 servers (Windows Server 2008 R2) with MSMQ installed and I want to use Server B to consume a MessageQueue on Server A. When I try to Receive it always throws a message error: "Access to message queuing system is denied.". IP between them. Server A: 172.31.23.130 Server B: 172.31.23.195 FormatName:Direct=TCP:172.31.23.195\private$\queuesource (It's working for Sends) I can ping each server from the other; The firewall is disabled; The "queuesource" has Full Control to "Everyone", "Anonymous Logon", "Network", "Network Services"; Journal is disabled; Authentication is ok; The queue is Transactional. My code in .Net C# is basically like this: MessageQueue _sourceQueue = new MessageQueue(); _sourceQueue.Path = "FormatName:Direct=TCP:172.31.23.195\private$\queuesource"; _sourceQueue.Receive(); // << here throw an exception. Actually I'm using the Private Queue only to avoid Active Directory's problems. For example, if the server DNS fail all network fail. I don't know what do anymore.

First Request to IIS Express Fails with 503 Service Unavailable, Second Succeeds

Each time I start my ASP.Net MVC 3 app from Visual Studio 2010, IIS Express launches and IE spins waiting. The request fails with HTTP 503 Service Unavailable. I hit Refresh in IE, and the request succeeds. All subsequent requests succeed until I stop debugging. The next time I go to start debugging, the first request fails again. Has anyone else experienced this? In IISExpress\applicationhost.config I have: <site name="ProjectName" id="6"> <application path="/" applicationPool="Clr4IntegratedAppPool"> <virtualDirectory path="/" physicalPath="c:\users\chris\dropbox\code\2010\SolutionName\ProjectName" /> </application> <bindings> <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation="*:80:laptop" /> </bindings> </site> I have this in my hosts file: 127.0.0.1 laptop And my Project is set to start with IIS Express, with Project Url set to: http://laptop It's very strange that only the first request fails, perhaps as though Visual Studio isn't waiting long enough for IIS Express to start? Is there some way to make it wait? Stopping debugging, making a change, and then starting again is one of the most common tasks I do so adding another step to get there is pretty annoying.

We have a handfull of ASMX web service hosted on two identical Windows Server 2003 boxes. The virtual directory for the web services is loaded in a DFS share, both servers point to the same share. We have a load balancer between the internet and the two web servers. At a seemingly random interval (right now about twice per week) when a user tries to access a method on the web service, IIS returns the error: "Could not load file or assembly" for one of the assemblies used in the method call, and will continue reporting it each time the method is called until the app pool is recycled. We haven't found any distinguishable pattern to the problem. This is what I know: the missing assembly varies (but it's always a home-brew assembly) the Web Service method that fails varies there is no noticeable pattern to the times or intervals where the problem appears there are no admin users accessing the servers when the problem appears the failing method will work correctly on one server and fail on the other, even though both point to the same bin folder the problem can always be corrected by recycling the app pool and making no other changes I have enabled the Assembly Binder Log, and know that the binder is looking in the correct location for the file. Our assemblies are compiled for .Net 3.5.

Hi, I'm getting the following error when trying to load an Asp.NET MVC App on IIS 7 with Sql Server 2008 Express. The App uses Linq to SQL. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) I've done some searching and all answers point to enabling TCP connections in Sql Server Configuration which I have done to no avail. The connection string I am using is: Server=SERVERNAME\SQLEXPRESS;Database=DBName;Integrated Security=true The catch. I have another app that already could talk to the Sql Server just fine. Even before playing around with the Sql Server Configuration Settings. The other app uses the following connectionstring: Data Source=SERVERNAME\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=OtherDbName;Integrated Security=True;Persist Security Info=False;Connect Timeout=120 I've tried this connectionstring on the app that isn't working and it still doesn't work. Our application is responding different on client server

I have an application running on our local server and it works perfect. However when I deploy my application to our client's server there are problems. If i copy all the sources to another local from their server, it works fine again.... I am talking about an ASP.NET application talking with windows server 2008. The server specs of our client are: intel Xeon 2.13 GHz 6 GB RAM 300 GB HDD windows server 2008 R2 Although I think it's not that important I will describe the problems I am talking about to give u a better idea: It is related to upating and deleting fields in the sql server. Whenever there is more than one user running the application, and updates or deletes (not even the same record!0, there seems to be fields updating/deleting wrongly. But as I said before, if we copy the source to another server it is not the case. So I assumed it is more configuration related. Do you guys have any idea what the issue could be? Problem with creation of scheduled task from IIS6 on SR2003

Hi, I have also posted this question on stackoverflow, but will also try here, since it might be more system-related I am writing a webapplication using .NET. The webapp creates scheduled tasks using the System.Diagnostics.Process class, calling SCHTASKS.EXE with parameters. I have changed the identity on the app pool, to a specific domain user. The domain-user is local administrator on all the four webservers. From webserver01 I am creating tasks on webserver01 to webserver04. It works perfect for 3-5 days, but then it breaks. It gives me the following errormessage in a messagebox: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application." If I have the system in the broken state, and I change the identity of the app pool to Domain administrator, it works. As I change it back to my domain-user, it breaks again. If I reboot the server, it works again for the same amount of days, but will break again. It seems like a permission-related problem. I just don't understand why it works sometimes, and sometimes doesn't. I hope someone outthere has seen this problem! Looking forward to hear from you! Kind regards, Morten, Denmark

Map a domain to another subdomain - Rackspace

I am using a subdomain as a parameter to an ASP.NET MVC 4 application. It's working well. Now I need to test my approach, so I have the application hosted on appharbor. It works well with subdomains here too. Our DNS registers are on Rackspace, but I have no control over it. Another guy is responsible for that. So, myapp.apphb.com can be accessed through myapp.com. Also abc.myapp.com is working as expected. I use abc as a parameter. So, now I want abc.com to be mapped in those Rackspace DNS registers to abc.myapp.com Is this possible at all? Can you explain to us how to do that? Will I have some problems with it? Anything that I should be aware of? Please have in mind that I am newbie when it comes to DNS. And no experience with Rackspace. Thanks.

Play audio over network with Windows 7?

I have a unique situation where I'd like to stream audio (ALL audio, not just mp3s, etc) from my laptop to another computer over the network. I live in a studio apartment and my laptop is my main computer but I'd like it's audio to play on my htpc with a nice stereo system. Since it's a studio, both computers are in the same room so I don't want 2 sets of speakers. I want my computer to directly play back through the stereo. I used to do this with pulseaudio but my job now requires that I run Windows full time. I'm aware of Shoutcast and other similar streaming solutions but I don't want any transcoding done. It's a waste of CPU and not to mention my laptop fans, and I don't mind the network bandwidth that uncompressed audio requires. Is there a way to run Shoutcast without encoding? Also, I know that Windows Remote Desktop can play audio over the network pretty easily. Is this part of .Net that I could just code a simple app that streams the audio without RD'ing in? Difference between accessing a website using Local host and IP address

I have developed an ASP.NET website and deployed into my IIS server. Now to see that my IIS is installed fine, I type local host in my address bar, and I get the welcome screen of IIS and its documentation in a separate window. Now I gave the url of my website http://localhost/mysites/site2/Default.aspx I access my site. Also giving my IP address instead of local host like: http://192.168.1.46/mysites/site2/Default.aspx also works. Just out of curiosity I wanted to see what happens when I give my IP address in addressbar. It asks me a user name and password saying:The server 192.168.1.46:80 requires a user name and password. I donot know what user name and password it is asking, and as of my knowledge I thought localhost points to my own IP address internally. But what is the difference and also what username and password do I need for it? Update: On chrome and IE just giving localhost displays the welcome screen, but on mozilla, localhost is also asking for a username and password.
