  Hi! I am trying to integrate eclipse with tomcat. My system is Debian Lenny and I have installed tomcat from http://tomcat.apache.org/. • exception with Linq to SQL using sdf file

  Hi, I've set up a project with an SDF local database file and am trying to access it using an LINQ To SQL (".dbml") file. I have used the connection string provided by the sdf file and can instanciate the object with out a problem: thisDataContext = new MyDataContext(GetConnectionString()); However, whenever i try to access any information from it eg var collection = (from MyObject p in thisDataContext.MyTable select p); I get the error - "The table name is not valid. [ Token line number (if known) = 2,Token line offset (if known) = 14,Table name = Person ]" I am using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 .Net 3.5 and SQL 2008 CE. I gather something similar happened for SQL 2005 CE and a Hotfix was released, but i would have thought the fix would have been fixed in this version before release. Does anyone know the fix for this? Thanks

• Unable to host WCF service correctly in IIS7

  I have a WCF Service library written in .NET 4.0. I have a WCF application (in order to host this service in IIS) within the same solution. It contains the WCF library assembly reference and a service.svc file pointing to the service from the library along with a web.config that is a replica of the WCF service library's app.config. The WCF application is set to host the service in IIS7 (the virtual directory has been set). The same solution contains an ASP.NET Webforms solution to which I have added a service reference pointing to the WCF service I hosted in IIS (as mentioned). When i start an instance of this ASP.NET Web application, I get a message saying that "The WCF service has been hosted" and the ASP.NET application can access the data from it correctly. However, when i try and access this data via a service reference added to an MVC 2 Web Application on the same machine in a different solution (pointing to the service hosted in IIS), I get a "The remote server returned an error: (405) Method Not Allowed." protocol exception . However, the MVC application is able to access the service data if I manually invoke an instance of the WCF Application that I was using to host the WCF Service Library from the other solution. I am using VS2010 Beta 2 as my development IDE. I have been stuck with this issue for a while now. Any help would be appreciated. • Why does BeginReceiveFrom never time out?

  I am writing an asynchronous Ping using Raw Sockets in F#, to enable parallel requests using as few threads as possible ("System.Net.NetworkInformation.Ping" appears to use one thread per request, but have not tested this... also am interested in using F# async workflows). The synchronous version below correctly times out when the target host does not exist/respond, but the asynchronous version hangs. Both work when the host does respond... Any ideas?   I'm supporting a ASP.NET v2.0 app installed on a Windows 2003 SP3 Enterprise on a quad core 8G machine running on .NET 2.0 SP1. before enabling the config, ran "tasklist /m mscorwks.dll" Image Name PID Modules w3wp.exe 7888 mscorwks.dll add under section in web.config ran IISRESET, rebooted server too ran "tasklist /m mscorsvr.dll" INFO: No tasks are running which match the specified criteria. ran "tasklist /m mscorwks.dll" Image Name PID Modules w3wp.exe 6251 mscorwks.dll It seems like gcServer is not taking effect. Are there any additional settings/ configurations necessary to get it working?

But, today I do not see this option. More over, I do not think I have a solution file, and I think that has something to do with it. I'm aware there are web application projects and web site model, and web site model is basically just a "directory". But can web site model, also, have a solution file for this setting or not a solution file? What determines that? I am interested in using this method on on a web site, i.e directory only model.

• I Clean Solution'd my Winform App and now it's broken...

  I have a Winform App that uses a 3rd Party Library of Controls, DevExpress. I also created a bunch of Controls myself, extending those controls. Everything has been working fine when all of a sudden I opened VS today and on the Design Page all my extended controls were missing. I then tried rebuilding to no avail. Then I tried Cleaning and Rebuilding and made it even worse. Now I have tons(520) of erros stating things like -- Error 179 The name 'datBirthDate' does not exist in the current context D:\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\MatrixReloaded\MatrixReloaded\Controls\Member\ucGeneral.cs 339 17 MatrixReloaded also if I try to open a form or user control in Design Mode I first get this -- could not find type, "MyType" please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced and then, if I click Ignore and Continue I get this for all Forms and Contros when I try and look at them in Design Mode -- Exception of type System.OutOfMemoryException was thrown Help!?!? When I googled I came across mostly references to VS 2003...I am on 2008 sp1.

  Host Configuration: HP EliteBook 8530w 4G Ram Win7 Ultimate 64Bit RC SQL Server 2005 64bit Developer Edition Virtual: Windows Virtual PC 1G Ram allocated Integration Services installed Windows XP 64bit Up to date service packs and .Net framework through 3.5 SP1 Sharing the Gigabit network adapter of the Host I have a simple .Net console application which loads a dataset of approximately 37K rows. Running the application on the host executes in approximately 4 seconds. Running inside the virtual takes 729 seconds. The size of the application grows to about 65Mb when the dataset is finished loading, no calculated columns or event handlers are attached. [edit] I changed the virtual to use a loopback adapter to communicate with the host and performance is now on par with running on hardware. Any ideas as to why it would going over the network adapter be almost 200x longer? TraceRt shows that the connection is only one hop. Thanks, Shane Holder

• SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 performance

  I am using SQL Server CE 3.5 SP1 in one of my client applications. When a user loads the program and starts using it, performance is fine. If the user lets the program sit idle for a while, it takes a considerable amount of time (10 or more seconds) for the program to respond. Every time the user asks for a new screen, a call is made to the SQL CE database to get the data for that screen. It seems like the hard drive may be going to sleep and then when the database is accessed, the hard drive has to wake back up. Is it possible to load the entire database into memory and work from that? Are there any other suggestions on how to increase performance?

• Win32_PageFileUsage WMI call returning 0 for CurrentUsage

  I am querying for the current page file usage on Windows-based systems. This is meant to run on the .NET Framework, version 2.0 SP1 and has been tested (and works!) on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008. On Windows Server 2003 SP2 (original release, not R2) it appears to return 0: using (var query = new ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT CurrentUsage FROM Win32_PageFileUsage")) { foreach (ManagementBaseObject obj in query.Get()) { uint used = (uint)obj.GetPropertyValue("CurrentUsage"); return used; } } This is simply returning the results from the first row returned for the WMI call. Even when a page file is being used, it returns 0. What causes the result to be 0 when it should be returning a larger value? It may be something specific to the machine in question, and could have nothing to do with the operating system version. I've also tried this with and without elevated privileges with the same results.

• HTTP 500 Internal Server Error on IIS 7.5 with MVC3

  I am trying to install an MVC3 application on our production server with no luck. The application is from a 3rd party (compiled), and so debugging is not available to me. Besides, I strongly suspect the error occurs before any code in the site has a chance to execute. Our staging server is - as far as I can determine - set up excactly like the production server. Both run Windows Server 2008 Standard R2, both also run a Sharepoint 2010 site (though this install doesn't touch that in any way). IIS is version 7.5, and .NET Framework 4.0 (required by the MVC app) is (recently) installed (by me, with a reboot after). The application is very small and simple and, as far as I can tell sticks to fairly standard functionality - including forms authentication (ie. it doesnt' pull any dirty tricks). The error message shown in the browser is very general: HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur. The bit about 'An error message detailing the cause' being in the application event log seems to be just speculation - a pious hope that whatever code actually caused the error will log it. Nothing useful is to be found in the event log (only the very same message, logged by IIS). (0x80070002) So there you have it. Seemingly, the AspNetInitClrHostFailureModule fails to find some file. So some questions are: What is the AspNetInitClrHostFailureModule? It is not listed in the fairly exhausting list of modules configurable in IIS manager for the site. I have had no success googling it either. Maybe it's secret.. I access the root URL of the site. This is supposed to be redirected to /Account/LogOn by the FormsAuthenticationModule. Why then is the handler StaticFile? Is that a clue? I have tried removing the infamous system.webserver/modules/runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests attribute, and that makes the error go away (but MVC not actually working, of course). I am prepared to specify all necessary modules manually if that's what it takes, but if the AspNetInitClrHostFailureModule is actually needed, I will be just as stuck. Does anyone know, or can anyone direct me to someone who knows, exactly what modules a typical MVC3 application actually needs? This question might well be a duplicate of this one, but he didn't get any useful answer, and also asked less specific questions. So I'll have my own go. Hoping for some help here :) Edit: I have now tried setting up a trivial MVC 3 project on the server. I created a new project using the MVC Application template, compiled it and deployed it to the server. It behaves in exactly the same way. The server simply cannot run MVC 3 projects.

• mod_mono 'Service Temporarily Unavailable' issue

  I've deployed an ASP.NET web application on a Linux (Debian) server running Apache 2.2 and mod_mono 1.9 It's working well, however Mono occasionally segfaults and uses the entire CPU which causes the website to stop working and display 'Service Temporarily Unavailable' Killing mono fixes it, but obviously this isn't a good solution. Now I got rid of the Virtual Directory, and created a new website in IIS (localhost:82). Ever since I've done that, I CANNOT open that site in VS.NET. It gives me Any ideas?

The routine send_message( msgstr, from_addr, *to_addrs ) works well in my code for sending email, but it is not clear from this API how to send email to a list of people that need to be blind copied (bcc:). Am I missing something, or is it just not possible with Net::SMTP?
