• Get item from spinner into url

  I searched for an answer but couldn't find it. The problem: Depending on the selected spinner-item the application should show a different image. At this moment I can't get it to work. The Url works like this: "my.site.com/images/" imc_met ".png" were imc_met is the filename. I can't get it to work. • What is the best free or low-cost Java reporting library (e.g. BIRT, JasperReports, etc.) for making

  I want to print, email and write to PDF very simple reports. The reports are basically a list of items, divided in various sections/columns. The sections are not necessarily identical. Think newspaper. I just wasted a solid 2 days of work trying to make this kind of reports using JasperReports. I find that Jasper is great for outputing "normalized" data. The kind that would come out of a database for instance, each row neatly describing an item and each item printed on a line. I'm simplifying a bit but that's the idea. However, given what I want to do I always ended up completely lost. Data not being displayed for no apparent reason, columns of texts never the correct size, column positioning always ending up incorrect, pagination not sanely possible (I was never able to figure it out; the FAQ gives an obscure workaround), etc. I came to the conclusion that Jasper is really not built to make the kind of reports I want. Am I missing something? I'm ready to pay for a tool, as long as the price is reasonable. By reasonable I mean a few $100s. Thanks. EDIT: To answer cetus, here is more information about the report I made in Jasper. What I want is something like this: text text text text ------------------- text | text text |---------- text | text text | text --------| text text |---------- text | text What I made in jasper is this: (detail band) subreport | subreport ------------------------------------ subreport | subreport ------------------------------------ subreport | subreport The subreports are all the same actual report. This report has one field (called "field") and basically just prints this field in a detail band. Hence, running a single subreport simply lists all items from the datasource. The datasource itself is a simple custom JRDatasource containing a collection of strings in the field "field". The datasource iterates over the collection until there are no more strings. Each subreport has its own datasource. I tried many different variations of the above, with all sorts of different properties for the report, subreports, etc. IMO, this is fairly simple stuff. However, the problems I encounter are as follows: Subreports starting from the 3rd don't show up when their position type is 'float'. They do show up when they have 'fix relative to top'. However, I don't want to do this because the first two subreports can be of any length. I can't make each subreport to stretch according to its own length. Instead, they either don't stretch at all (which is not desirable because they have different lenghts) or they stretch according to the longest subreport. This makes a weird layout for sure. Pagination doesn't happen. If some subreports fall outside the page, they simple don't show. One alternative is to increase the 'page height' considerably and the 'detail band height' accordingly. However, in this case it is not really possibly to know the total height in advance. So I'm stuck with calculating/guessing it myself, before the report is even generated. More importantly, long reports end up on one page and this is not acceptable (the printout text is too small, it's ugly/non-professional to have different reports with different PDF page lengths, etc.). BTW, I used iReport so it's possibly limitations of iReport I'm listing here and not of Jasper itself. That's one of the things I'm trying to find out asking this question here. One alternative would be to generate the jrxml myself with just static text but I'm afraid I'll encounter the very same limitations. Anyway, I just generally wasted so much time getting anything done with Jasper that I can't help thinking its not the right tool for the job. (Not to say that Jasper doesn't excel in what it's good at).

Also, I'd be interested in hearing suggestions on how I could improve the design?   REFORMULATED QUESTION (Apr 24): I am using the CRM Developer Toolkit for VS2012 to create a CRM2011 plugin. The plugin is registered for the CREATE message of the "Invoice Product" entity. Pipeline-Stage is post-operational, execution is synchronous. I register for a post image that contains baseamount. This "postImage" entity contains a key for "baseamount" but its value is 0. Can anybody help me understand why this is the case and what I can do about it? (I also noticed that the postImage does not contain all but only a subset of the entities I registered for.) • Reusing my PagedList object on WCF

  The problem: I have a custom collection PagedList<T> that is being returned from my WCF service as PagedListOfEntitySearchResultW_SH0Zpu5 when T is EntitySearchResult object. I want to reuse this PagedList<T> type between the application and the service. My scenario: I've created a PagedList<T> type that inherits from List<T>. This type is on a separated assembly that is referenced on both application and WCF service. I'm using the /reference option on the scvutil to enable the type reusing. I also don't want any arrays returned so I also use the /collection to map to the generic List type.   Hi Guys, I am building a social networking site that is dedicated to nightclubs and night events. Among other tables, I have a users table, events table and establishments table. I am really intrigued with how Facebook in particular is able to query and return matches of not just users but also pages, ads etc row after row. Im sure most who are reading this have tried the facebook search My question is in my case, should I: Perform 3 separate LIKE %search% on each of the tables on search.php. • Reordering Variadic Parameters

  I have come across the need to reorder a variadic list of parameters that is supplied to the constructor of a struct. After being reordered based on their types, the parameters will be stored as a tuple. My question is how this can be done so that a modern C++ compiler (e.g. g++-4.7) will not generate unnecessary load or store instructions. That is, when the constructor is invoked with a list of parameters of variable size, it efficiently pushes each parameter into place based on an ordering over the parameters' types. Here is a concrete example. Assume that the base type of every parameter (without references, rvalue references, pointers, or qualifiers) is either char, int, or float. How can I make it so that all the parameters of base type char appear first, followed by all of those of base type int (which leaves the parameters of base type float last). The relative order in which the parameters were given should not be violated within sublists of homogeneous base type. Example: foo::foo() is called with arguments float a, char&& b, const float& c, int&& d, char e. The tuple tupe is std::tuple<char, char, int, float, float>, and it is constructed like so: tuple_type{std::move(b), e, std::move(d), a, c}. Consider the struct defined below, and assume that the metafunction deduce_reordered_tuple_type is already implemented. How would you write the constructor so that it works as intended? If you think that the code for deduce_reodered_tuple_type, would be useful to you, I can provide it; it's a little long. template <class... Suppose that you wish to define an operator that takes the product of several expressions, each of which may be passed by reference, reference to const, or rvalue reference. (In my case, the expressions are conditional probability tables and the operation is the factor product, but something like matrix multiplication works suitably as well.) You need access to the data provided by each expression in order to evaluate the product. Consequently, you must move the expressions passed as rvalue references, copy the expressions passed by reference to const, and take the addresses of expressions passed by reference. Using the technique I describe above now poses several benefits. Other expressions can use uniform syntax to access data elements from this expression, since all of the heavy-lifting metaprogramming work is done beforehand, within the class. We can save stack space by grouping the pointers together and storing the larger expressions towards the end of the tuple. • How to make MySQL utilize available system resources, or find "the real problem"?

  This is a MySQL 5.0.26 server, running on SuSE Enterprise 10. This may be a Serverfault question. The web user interface that uses these particular queries (below) is showing sometimes 30+, even up to 120+ seconds at the worst, to generate the pages involved. On development, when the queries are run alone, they take up to 20 seconds on the first run (with no query cache enabled) but anywhere from 2 to 7 seconds after that - I assume because the tables and indexes involved have been placed into ram. From what I can tell, the longest load times are caused by Read/Update Locking. These are MyISAM tables. So it looks like a long update comes in, followed by a couple 7 second queries, and they're just adding up. And I'm fine with that explanation. What I'm not fine with is that MySQL doesn't appear to be utilizing the hardware it's on, and while the bottleneck seems to be the database, I can't understand why. I would say "throw more hardware at it", but we did and it doesn't appear to have changed the situation. Viewing a 'top' during the slowest times never shows much cpu or memory utilization by mysqld, as if the server is having no trouble at all - but then, why are the queries taking so long? How can I make MySQL use the crap out of this hardware, or find out what I'm doing wrong? Extra Details: On the "Memory Health" tab in the MySQL Administrator (for Windows), the Key Buffer is less than 1/8th used - so all the indexes should be in RAM. I can provide a screen shot of any graphs that might help. So desperate to fix this issue. Suffice it to say, there is legacy code "generating" these queries, and they're pretty much stuck the way they are. I have tried every combination of Indexes on the tables involved, but any suggestions are welcome. The course-of-action from our DBA is to use a rowguid column for SQL Replication to work with our setup. These columns need to have a StoreGeneratedPattern property set to Computed on every one of these columns. The problem : Every time the T4 template regenerate our EDMX (ADO.NET Entity Data Model) file (for example, when we update it from our database), I need to go manually in the EDMX XML file to add this property to every one of them. • Edges on polygon outlines not always correct

  I'm using the algorithm below to generate quads which are then rendered to make an outline like this http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/8530/uhohz.png The problem as seen on the image, is that sometimes the lines are too thin when they should always be the same width. My algorithm finds the 4 verticies for the first one then the top 2 verticies of the next ones are the bottom 2 of the previous. This creates connected lines, but it seems to not always work. How could I fix this?   Following css renders differently depends on the browser (mainly with Firefox) Firefox: the border-left-style:dashed does not seem to take effect as desired and black lines are shown instead. Also font seems to be another issue using em as they respond relatively better in cross browser. When i used pixel its a mess but not sure em is better or not. • Encoding GBK2312 Condundrum

  I am an amateur coder and I have a small problem. My goal is to have one text input with two buttons. The first button uses a bit of Javascript called SundayMorning to translate the text (to Chinese) The second button submits the text to a URL. The URl requires that Chinese text be encoded it in GBK2312 character set. I have duct taped together various found code to the result I have now. Due to the finicky behavior of the SundayMorning Javascript, my solution is to have two input boxes, the second of which I will hide. Right now, this doesn't work: I am unable to encode the Chinese in GBK2312, no matter what I try. BONUS CONUNDRUM: The second box copies my input letter by letter as I type, but does not copy the Chinese translation that the Javascript returns. Sorry for my janky amateur code. • Installing UCMA 3.0 and Creating a Communications Server "14"Trusted Application Pool

  A lot of setup and administration tasks have gotten a lot easier in Communications Server 14; one of them is building an application server to develop and run your UCMA 3.0 applications on. In this post, Ill walk you through installing the UCMA 3.0 Core SDK and creating a Trusted Application Pool on the server, thus adding it to the Communications Server 14 topology and allowing you to host and run UCMA 3.0 applications on it. Note: These instructions will change slightly as the bits get updated for the eventual Beta release I will update this post as soon as I get a chance to run this setup on a more recent build. Im doing the install on a simple Communications Server 14 topology consisting of the following Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V images: DC Domain Controller ExchangeUM Exchange Server 2010 CS-SE Microsoft Communications Server 2010 Standard Edition TS Development machine Ill walk through setting up UCMA 3.0 on the TS VM, which is a fully patched Windows Server 2008 R2 machine that is joined to the Fabrikam domain.   Im also running Visual Studio 2010 on this VM because I intend to use it as a development machine.  In a future post, Ill walk through installing just the UCMA 3.0 run time to build a true production UCMA application server. Im making a couple of assumptions here: You have an existing CS 2010 site and cluster configured(well look at this in a future post) Youre starting with a fully patched Windows Server 2008 R2 machine The machine is joined to your domain This walkthrough was done in my Fabrikam VM environment but can easily be modified for your own environment. Installing the UCMA 3.0 SDK Lets start by installing the UCMA 3.0 SDK.  Run UcmaSdkWebDownload.msi to kick off the SDK installer package extract process. The installed package is extracted to C: >> Program Files >> Microsoft UCMA 3.0 >> SDK Installer Package.  Browse there and run setup.exe. Click Install to install the UCMA 3.0 Core SDK and Workflow SDK. Install Communications Server Core Components UCMA 3.0 introduces a new concept called Auto-provisioning, which is most easily explained from the developer point of view.  Remember what your app.config looked it in UCMA 2.0?  You had to store the application GRUU, the trusted contact SIP Uri, the port for your application, and the name of the certificate authority. Thats all gone with auto-provisioning all you need in your app.config is your ApplicationId, e.g.: urn:application:MyApplication. How does CS 2010 do this? All of the applications configuration data is associated with the applications id.  UCMA also queries a replicated copy of the Central Management Database to retrieve the applications configuration data and also the configuration data for any endpoints. In this step, well run Bootstrapper.exe to install the CS Core components, this checked for the following components and installs them if they are not already present: VcRedist Sqlexpress Sqlnativeclient Sqlbackcompat Ucmaredist OcsCore.msi Open a command window at C: >> Program Files >> Microsoft Communications Server 2010 >> Deployment and run the following command: Bootstrapper.exe /BootstrapReplica /MinCache /SourceDirectory:"%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft UCMA 3.0\SDK Installer Package\Prereq\BootstrapperCache" Create a New Trusted Application Pool The next step is to create a new trusted application pool for the new server.  Fire up the Communications Server Management Shell from Start >> Microsoft Communications Server 2010 >> Communications Server Management Shell and enter the following PowerShell command: New-CsTrustedApplicationPool -Identity <FQDN of Server> -Registrar <FQDN of CS Server> -Site <CS Site Name> Verify that the new server was added to the CS topology by running the following PowerShell command: (Get-CsTopology -AsXml).ToString() > Topology.xml This created a file called Topology.xml in the directory that you ran the command from.  Open the file and find the Clusters section and look for a node for the new server. The Cluster Fqdn is the name of your server, and note the name of the Site that this Cluster is a part of. <Cluster Fqdn="appsrv.fabrikam.com" RequiresReplication="true" RequiresSetup="true"> <ClusterId SiteId="UcMarketing2" Number="5" /> <Machine OrdinalInCluster="1" Fqdn="appsrv.fabrikam.com"> <NetInterface InterfaceSide="Primary" InterfaceNumber="1" IPAddress="0.0.0.0" /> </Machine> </Cluster> Configure CS Management Store Replication At this point, we have the CS Core components installed and the server configured as a trusted application pool.  We now need to set up replication so that the Central Management Store replicates down to the new server. From the Communications Server Management Shell, run the following PowerShell command to enable the Replica service on the new server: Enable-CSReplica The Replica service is enabled, but hasn't done anything yet. This can be verified by running the following PowerShell command to check the replication status for the various servers in the topology: Get-CSManagementStoreReplicationStatus You can see in the screenshot below that the UpToDate property of the new server is still False Run the following PowerShell command to force the replication to run: Invoke-CSManagementStoreReplicationStatus Run Get-CSManagementStoreReplicationStatus again to verify that the new service is now up to date Request and Set a New Certificate The last step in the process is to request a new certificate from the certificate authority on the domain and assign it to the new server. From the Communications Server Management Shell, run the following PowerShell command to request a new certificate: Request-CSCertificate -Action new -Type default -CA <Domain Controller FQDN>\<Certificate Authority> Setting the -Verbose switch on the cmdlet creates an Xml file with its output. • ASP.NET MVC Paging/Sorting/Filtering a list using ModelMetadata

  This post looks at how to control paging, sorting and filtering when displaying a list of data by specifying attributes in your Model using the ASP.NET MVC framework and the excellent MVCContrib library. It also shows how to hide/show columns and control the formatting of data using attributes.  This uses the Northwind database. A sample project is attached at the end of this post. Let’s start by looking at a class called ProductViewModel. The properties in the class are decorated with attributes. The OrderBy attribute tells the system that the Model can be sorted using that property. The SearchFilter attribute tells the system that filtering is allowed on that property. Filtering type is set by the  FilterType enum which currently supports Equals and Contains. The ScaffoldColumn property specifies if a column is hidden or not The DisplayFormat specifies how the data is formatted. public class ProductViewModel { [OrderBy(IsDefault = true)] [ScaffoldColumn(false)] public int? SupplierID { get; set; }   [OrderBy] public bool Discontinued { get; set; } } Before we explore the code further, lets look at the UI.  The UI has a section for filtering the data. The column headers with links are sortable. Paging is also supported with the help of a pager row. The pager is rendered using the MVCContrib Pager component. The data is displayed using a customized version of the MVCContrib Grid component. The customization was done in order for the Grid to be aware of the attributes mentioned above. Now, let’s look at what happens when we perform actions on this page. The diagram below shows the process: The form on the page has its method set to “GET” therefore we see all the parameters in the query string. The query string is shown in blue above. This query gets routed to an action called Index with parameters of type ProductViewModel and PageSortOptions. The parameters in the query string get mapped to the input parameters using model binding. The ProductView object created has the information needed to filter data while the PageAndSorting object is used for paging and sorting the data. The last block in the figure above shows how the filtered and paged list is created. We receive a product list from our product repository (which is of type IQueryable) and first filter it by calliing the AsFiltered extension method passing in the productFilters object and then call the AsPagination extension method passing in the pageSort object. The AsFiltered extension method looks at the type of the filter instance passed in. It skips properties in the instance that do not have the SearchFilter attribute. For properties that have the SearchFilter attribute, it adds filter expression trees to filter against the IQueryable data. The AsPagination extension method looks at the type of the IQueryable and ensures that the column being sorted on has the OrderBy attribute. If it does not find one, it looks for the default sort field [OrderBy(IsDefault = true)]. It is required that at least one attribute in your model has the [OrderBy(IsDefault = true)]. This because a person could be performing paging without specifying an order by column. As you may recall the LINQ Skip method now requires that you call an OrderBy method before it. Therefore we need a default order by column to perform paging. The extension method adds a order expressoin tree to the IQueryable and calls the MVCContrib AsPagination extension method to page the data. Implementation Notes Auto Postback The search filter region auto performs a get request anytime the dropdown selection is changed. This contains all the information need for the view to render the Search filter section (including dropdowns),  the Html.Pager (MVCContrib) and the Html.Grid (from MVCContrib). It also stores the state of the search filters so that they can recreate themselves when the page reloads (Viewstate, I miss you! :0)  The class diagram for the container class is shown below.   Custom MVCContrib Grid The MVCContrib grid default behavior was overridden so that it would auto generate the columns and format the columns based on the metadata and also make it aware of our custom attributes (see MetaDataGridModel in the sample code). The data is formatted using the DisplayFormat attribute. Generic Extension methods for Sorting and Filtering The extension method AsFiltered takes in an IQueryable<T> and uses expression trees to query against the IQueryable data. The query is constructed using the Model metadata and the properties of the T filter (productFilters in our case). Properties in the Model that do not have the SearchFilter attribute are skipped when creating the filter expression tree.  It returns an IQueryable<T>. The extension method AsPagination takes in an IQuerable<T> and first ensures that the column being sorted on has the OrderBy attribute. If not, we look for the default OrderBy column ([OrderBy(IsDefault = true)]). We then build an expression tree to sort on this column. We finally hand off the call to the MVCContrib AsPagination which returns an IPagination<T>. This type as you can see in the class diagram above is passed to the view and used by the MVCContrib Grid and Pager components.
