  • priority_queue with dynamic priorities

    - by Layne
    Hey, I have a server application which accepts incomming queries and executes them. If there are too many queries they should be queued and if some of the other queries got executed the queued queries should be executed as well. Since I want to pass queries with different priorities I think using a priority_queue would be the best choice. e.g. The amout of the axcepting queries (a) hit the limt and new queries will be stored in the queue. All queries have a priority of 1 (lowest) if some of the queries from (a) get executed the programm will pick the query with the highest priority out of the queue and execute it. Still no problem. Now someone is sending a query with a priority of 5 which gets added to the queue. Since this is the query with the highest priority the application will execute this query as soon as the running queries no longer hit the limit. There might be the worst case that 500 queries with a priority of 1 are queued but wont be executed since someone is always sending queries with a priority of 5 hence these 500 queries will be queued for a looooong time. In order to prevent that I want to increase the prioritiy of all queries which have a lower priority than the query with the higher priority, in this example which have a priority lower than 5. So if the query with a priority of 5 gets pulled out of the queue all other queries with a priority < 5 should be increased by 0.2. This way queries with a low priority wont be queued for ever even if there might be 100 queries with a higher priority. I really hope can help me to solve the problem with the priorities: Since my queries consist of an object I thought something like this might work: class Query { public: Query( std::string p_stQuery ) : stQuery( p_stQuery ) {}; std::string getQuery() const {return stQuery;}; void increasePriority( const float fIncrease ) {fPriority += fIncrease;}; friend bool operator < ( const Query& PriorityFirst, const Query& PriorityNext ) { if( PriorityFirst.fPriority < PriorityNext.fPriority ) { if( PriorityFirst.fStartPriority < PriorityNext.fStartPriority ) { Query qTemp = PriorityFirst; qTemp.increasePriority( INCREASE_RATE ); } return true; } else { return false; } }; private: static const float INCREASE_RATE = 0.2; float fPriority; // current priority float fStartPriority; // initialised priority std::string stQuery; };

  • How to run a module

    - by Jimmy
    I have a module file containing the following functions: def replace(filename): match = re.sub(r'[^\s^\w]risk', 'risk', filename) return match def count_words(newstring): from collections import defaultdict word_dict=defaultdict(int) for line in newstring: words=line.lower().split() for word in words: word_dict[word]+=1 for word in word_dict: if'risk'==word: return word, word_dict[word] when I do this in IDLE: >>> mylist = open('C:\\Users\\ahn_133\\Desktop\\Python Project\\test10.txt').read() >>> newstrings=replace(mylist) ### This works fine. >>> newone=count_words(newstrings) ### This leads to the following error. I get the following error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<pyshell#134>", line 1, in <module> newPH = replace(newPassage) File "C:\Users\ahn_133\Desktop\Python Project\text_modules.py", line 56, in replace match = re.sub(r'[^\s^\w]risk', 'risk', filename) File "C:\Python27\lib\re.py", line 151, in sub return _compile(pattern, flags).sub(repl, string, count) TypeError: expected string or buffer Is there anyway to run both functions without saving newstrings into a file, opening it using readlines(), and then running count_words function?

  • Is there a way to test if a scalar has been stringified or not?

    - by Yobert
    I am writing a thing to output something similar to JSON, from a perl structure. I want the quoting to behave like this: "string" outputs "string" "05" outputs "05" "5" outputs "5" 5 outputs 5 05 outputs 5, or 05 would be acceptable JSON::XS handles this by testing if a scalar has been "stringified" or not, which I think is very cool. But I can't find a way to do this test myself without writing XS, which I'd rather avoid. Is this possible? I can't find this anywhere on CPAN without finding vast pedantry about Scalar::Util::looks_like_number, etc which completely isn't what I want. The only stopgap I can find is Devel::Peek, which feels evil. And also, just like JSON::XS, I'm fine with this secenario: my $a = 5; print $a."\n"; # now $a outputs "5" instead of 5)

  • Javascript is freezing the browser when running this code

    - by user1420493
    I am trying to get the value of a text input and check if there is any links in it and then take those links and make them into tags. But when I run this code, something is going wrong and it completely freezes the page. Basically, I want it to check for "http://" and if that exists, to keep on adding to the substr length until the end of the string/link. Is there a better way to do this? // the id "post" could possibly say: "Hey, check this out! http://facebook.com" // I'd like it to just get that link and that's all I need help with, just to get the // value of that entire string/link. var x = document.getElementById("post"); var m = x.value.indexOf("http://"); var a = 0; var q = m; if (m != -1) { while (x.value.substr(q, 1) != " ") { var h = x.value.substr(m, a); q++; } }

  • Strange python error

    - by Werner
    Hi, I am trying to write a python program that calculates a histogram, given a list of numbers like: 1 3 2 3 4 5 3.2 4 2 2 so the input parameters are the filename and the number of intervals. The program code is: #!/usr/bin/env python import os, sys, re, string, array, math import numpy Lista = [] db = sys.argv[1] db_file = open(db,"r") ic=0 nintervals= int(sys.argv[2]) while 1: line = db_file.readline() if not line: break ll=string.split(line) #print ll[6] Lista.insert(ic,float(ll[0])) ic=ic+1 lmin=min(Lista) print "min= ",lmin lmax=max(Lista) print "max= ",lmax width=666.666 width=(lmax-lmin)/nintervals print "width= ",width nelements=len(Lista) print "nelements= ",nelements print " " Histogram = numpy.zeros(shape=(nintervals)) for item in Lista: #print item int_number = 1 + int((item-lmin)/width) print " " print "item,lmin= ",item,lmin print "(item-lmin)/width= ",(item-lmin)," / ",width," ====== ",(float(item)-float(lmin))/float(width) print "int((item-lmin)/width)= ",int((item-lmin)/width) print item , " belongs to interval ", int_number, " which is from ", lmin+width*(int_number-1), " to ",lmin+width*int_number Histogram[int_number] = Histogram[int_number] + 1 4 but somehow I am completely lost, I get strange errors, can anybody help¿ Thanks

  • How to add up amount of data from an external file in C# (Stream Reader)

    - by user2985995
    I'm new to this site, and pretty new to programming, at the moment I'm trying to display a count amount for the users names on my donation list, and then I also want to have a sum to work out the total amount of money the donation list contains, If someone could help me with creating a way to add up amount of donors on the donations.txt file that would be great help, I have no idea where to start, but so far this is my coding: string sName; double dAmount; string sTotalNames; double dAmountTotal; double dAmountAverage; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader("Donations.txt")) { while (sr.Peek() != -1) { sName = sr.ReadLine(); Console.WriteLine(sName); dAmount = Convert.ToDouble(sr.ReadLine()); Console.WriteLine(dAmount); } Console.WriteLine("Press any key to close"); Console.ReadKey(); }

  • JavaScript prototype(ing) question

    - by OneNerd
    Trying to grasp Prototyping in Javascript. Trying to create my own namespace to extend the String object in JavaScript. Here is what I have so far (a snippet): var ns { alert: function() { alert (this); } } String.prototype.$ns = ns; As you can see, I am trying to place what will be a series of functions into the ns namespace. So I can execute a command like this: "hello world".$ns.alert(); But the problem is, the this doesn't seem to reference the text being sent (in this case, "hello world"). What I get is an alert box with the following: [object Object] Not having a full grasp of the object-oriented nature of JavaScript, I am at a loss, but I am guessing I am missing something simple. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks -

  • Odd toString behavior in javascript

    - by George
    I have this small function that's behaving oddly to me. Easy enough to work around, but enough to pique my curiosity. function formatNumber(number,style) { if (typeof style == 'number') { style = style.toString(); } return (number).format(style); } The return format part is based on another function that requires the style variable to be a string to work properly, so I'm just checking if style is a number and if it is to convert it to a string. When the function above is written as is, the format function format doesn't work properly. However when I write it as simply: return (number).format(style.toString()); Everything works. Is there a difference between putting the .toString function inside the format call vs performing it before hand and setting it as the variable style?

  • is the + in += on a Map a prefix operator of =?

    - by Steve
    In the book "Programming in Scala" from Martin Odersky there is a simple example in the first chapter: var capital = Map("US" -> "Washington", "France" -> "Paris") capital += ("Japan" -> "Tokyo") The second line can also be written as capital = capital + ("Japan" -> "Tokyo") I am curious about the += notation. In the class Map, I didn't found a += method. I was able to the same behaviour in an own example like class Foo() { def +(value:String) = { println(value) this } } object Main { def main(args: Array[String]) = { var foo = new Foo() foo = foo + "bar" foo += "bar" } } I am questioning myself, why the += notation is possible. It doesn't work if the method in the class Foo is called test for example. This lead me to the prefix notation. Is the + a prefix notation for the assignment sign (=)? Can somebody explain this behaviour?

  • Isses using function with variadic arguments

    - by Sausages
    I'm trying to write a logging function and have tried several different attempts at dealing with the variadic arguments, but am having problems with all of them. Here's the latest: - (void) log:(NSString *)format, ... { if (self.loggingEnabled) { va_list vl; va_start(vl, format); NSString* str = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:format arguments:vl]; va_end(vl); NSLog(format); } } If I call this like this: [self log:@"I like: %@", @"sausages"]; Then I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS at the NSLog line (there's also a compiler warning that the format string is not a string literal). However if in XCode's console I do "po str" it displays "I like: sausages" so str seems ok.

  • How can I assign a DBNull in a better way?

    - by Mike
    Hi, I need to parse value from a datarow and assign it to another datarow.If the input is valid, then I need to parse it to double or else add a dbnull value to the output.I'm doing the following, is there a better way to do it? public double? GetVolume(object data) { string colValue = data == null ? string.Empty : data.ToString(); double volume; if (!Double.TryParse(colValue.ToString(), out volume)) { return null; } return volume; } public void Assign(DataRow theRowInput,DataRow theRowOutput) { double? volume = GetVolume(theRowInput[0]); if(volumne.HasValue) theRowOutput[0] = volume.value; else theRowOutput[0] = DbNull.Value; return theRowOutput; } Thanks, -M

  • Why does this static factory method involving implied generic types, work?

    - by Cheeso
    Consider public class Tuple<T1, T2> { public Tuple(T1 v1, T2 v2) { V1 = v1; V2 = v2; } public T1 V1 { get; set; } public T2 V2 { get; set; } } public static class Tuple { // MAGIC!! public static Tuple<T1, T2> New<T1, T2>(T1 v1, T2 v2) { return new Tuple<T1, T2>(v1, v2); } } Why does the part labeled "MAGIC" in the above work? It allows syntax like Tuple.New(1, "2") instead of new Tuple<int, string>(1, "2"), but ... how and why? Why do I not need Tuple.New<int,string>(1, "2") ??

  • Pattern matching against Scala Map type

    - by Tom Morris
    Imagine I have a Map[String, String] in Scala. I want to match against the full set of key–value pairings in the map. Something like this ought to be possible val record = Map("amenity" -> "restaurant", "cuisine" -> "chinese", "name" -> "Golden Palace") record match { case Map("amenity" -> "restaurant", "cuisine" -> "chinese") => "a Chinese restaurant" case Map("amenity" -> "restaurant", "cuisine" -> "italian") => "an Italian restaurant" case Map("amenity" -> "restaurant") => "some other restaurant" case _ => "something else entirely" } The compiler complains thulsy: error: value Map is not a case class constructor, nor does it have an unapply/unapplySeq method What currently is the best way to pattern match for key–value combinations in a Map?

  • What is the point declaring variables at the end of class?

    - by serhio
    I saw multiple examples in MSDN that uses to declare the internal fields at the end of the class. What is the point? I find this a little embarrassing, because each time Visual Studio adds a method it adds it to the end of the class, so there is need every time to move it... class A { public A(){} // Methods, Properties, etc ... private string name; } class A { private string name; public A(){} // Methods, Properties, etc ... }

  • Why isn't the new() generic constraint satisfied by a class with optional parameters in the construc

    - by Joshua Flanagan
    The following code fails to compile, producing a "Widget must be a non-abstract type with a public parameterless constructor" error. I would think that the compiler has all of the information it needs. Is this a bug? An oversight? Or is there some scenario where this would not be valid? public class Factory<T> where T : new() { public T Build() { return new T(); } } public class Widget { public Widget(string name = "foo") { Name = name; } public string Name { get; set; } } public class Program { public static void Main() { var widget = new Widget(); // this is valid var factory = new Factory<Widget>(); // compiler error } }

  • Is map/collection order stable between calls?

    - by John
    If I have a hash map and iterate over the objects repeatedly, is it correct that I'm not guaranteed the same order for every call? For example, could the following print two lines that differ from each other: Map<String,Integer> map = new HashMap<String,Integer>() {{ put("a", 1); put("b", 2); put("c", 3); }}; System.out.println(map); System.out.println(map); And is this the case for sets and collections in general? If so, what's the best way in case you have to iterate twice over the same collection in the same order (regardless of what order that is)? I guess converting to a list.

  • 'Random' Orderby in webservice using LINQ To Entities

    - by MrDean
    Morning all Now I know there is a reason to this odering but my tiny little brain can't get my head around it. I am using a webservice to pull through data to a webp[age and have the following that is so far pulling data through from UUF1: public string[] GetBuyer(string Memberkey) { try { WebService.EntitiesConnection buyer = new WebService.EntitiesConnection(); return buyer.tblProducts .Where(p => p.MemberId == Memberkey) .OrderBy(p => p.UnitUserfield1) .Select(p => p.UnitUserfield1) .Distinct() .ToArray(); } catch (Exception) { return null; } } This works fine and pulls the data through but in a strange order. Where I would expect results of A B C D E F, it appears to be returning A C E B D F. Could someone point out the error in my ways please?

  • Java Map question

    - by user552961
    I have one Map that contains some names and numbers Map<String,Integer> abc = new TreeMap<String,Integer>(); It works fine. I can put some values in it but when I call it in different class it gives me wrong order. For example: I putted abc.put("a",1); abc.put("b",5); abc.put("c",3); some time it returns the order (b,a,c) and some time (a,c,b). What is wrong with it? Is there any step that I am missing when I call this map?

  • templated class : accessing derived normal-class methods

    - by user1019129
    I have something like this : class Container1 { public: method1() { ... } } class Container2 { public: method1() { ... } } template<class C = Container1> class X : public C { public: using C::method1(); ..... X(string& str) : C(str) {}; X& other_method() { method1(); ...; } } My question is why I have to use "using C::method1()", to be able to access the method.. Most of answers I found is for the case where templated-class inhering templated-class. Normally they mention using "this-", but this does not seem to work in this case. Can I do something else shorter... Also I'm suspecting the other error I'm getting is related to the same problem : no match call for (X<Container1>) (<std::string&>)

  • What's the simplest way of defining lexicographic comparison for elements of a class?

    - by the_mandrill
    If I have a class that I want to be able to sort (ie support a less-than concept), and it has several data items such that I need to do lexicographic ordering then I need something like this: struct MyData { string surname; string forename; bool operator<(const MyData& other) const { return surname < other.surname || (surname==other.surname && forename < other.forename); } }; This becomes pretty unmanageable for anything with more than 2 data members. Are there any simpler ways of achieving it? The data members may be any Comparable class.

  • Regular Expression not disappearing

    I have 3 phone fields and any one is required. SO i had a custom validation class to make any one of them is required. And i am calling those class as follows [RegularExpression(@"^\(?([0-9]{3})\)?. ]?([0-9]{3})[-. ]?([0-9]{4})$", ErrorMessage = "Entered phone format is not valid. <br/> 10 digits are required.<br/> No spaces between digits. <br/> Numbers only.")] [AtLeastOneRequired("PhoneHome", "PhoneMobile", "PhoneOffice", ErrorMessage = "Please provide either of PhoneHome or PhoneMobile or phoneOffice. ")] public string PhoneHome { get; set; } [StringLength(11, MinimumLength = 10)] [RegularExpression(@"^\(?([0-9]{3})\)?[-. ]?([0-9]{3})[-. ]?([0-9]{4})$", ErrorMessage = "Entered phone format is not valid. <br/> 10 digits are required.<br/> No spaces between digits. <br/> Numbers only.")] [Display(Name = "Prompt_PhoneOffice", ResourceType = typeof(ResContactItems))] public string PhoneOffice { get; set; } [StringLength(11, MinimumLength = 10)] [RegularExpression(@"^\(?([0-9]{3})\)?[-. ]?([0-9]{3})[-. ]?([0-9]{4})$", ErrorMessage = "Entered phone format is not valid. <br/> 10 digits are required.<br/> No spaces between digits. <br/> Numbers only.")] [Display(Name = "Prompt_PhoneMobile", ResourceType = typeof(ResContactItems))] public string PhoneMobile { get; set; } The problem is with only "PhoneHome " field , if i enter incorrect format, it will display error message based ont he regular expression given .But the regular expression message is not disappearing wwhen we enter the correct format too.It will disappear only in f the field is empty.Other two fields are showing properly. Is this due to the custom class i am calling.? Please help me to sort out this issue Thanks, Vidya

  • LINQ to SQL, how to write a method which checks if a row exists when we have multiple tables

    - by Beles
    Hi, I'm trying to write a method in C# which can take as parameter a tabletype, column and a columnvalue and check if the got a row with a with value the method looks like: public object GetRecordFromDatabase(Type tabletype, string columnname, string columnvalue) I'm using LINQ to SQL and need to to this in a generic way so I don't need to write each table I got in the DB. I have been doing this so far for each table, but with more than 70 of these it becomes cumbersome and boring to do. Is there a way to generate the following code dynamically, And swap out the hardcoded tablenames with the values from the parameterlist? In this example I have a table in the DB named tbl_nation, which the DataContext pluralizes to tbl_nations, and I'm checking the column for the value if (DB.tbl_nations.Count(c => c.code.Equals(columnvalue)) == 1) { return DB.tbl_nations.Single(c => c.code.Equals(columnvalue)); }
