  • Abstract class get parameter from implementing subclass?

    I'm wondering if there is way to do this without breaking encapsulation, I want the abstract class to rely on parameters defined in the implementing subclass. Like so: public abstract class Parent { private int size; private List<String> someList; public Parent() { size = getSize(); someList = new ArrayList<String>(size); } public abstract int getSize(); } public class Child extends Parent { @Override public int getSize() { return 5; } } Is this ugly? Is there a better way? And perhaps more importantly, is this even a good idea?

  • [iphone] use NSString in other method?!

    It's really embarrassing but i stuck on it for two hours of trial and error. I declared an NSString in the interface as: NSString *testString; Then i made a property and synthesized it. I allocate it in viewDidLoad with: testString = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"thats my value: %i", row]; If i want to get the value of the string in another method it always return (null). So the string is empty, but why? how do i make it accessible for every function inside of one class? So i don't want to make a global var just a "global variable inside the class" It's really confusing because as long as i code i never ran into this problem :( thanks a lot for helping me!

    I wrote a custom resolver class. It works OK for resolving SYSTEM DTDs, but not for resolving PUBLIC DTDs. When the class has to resolve PUBLIC DTDs instead of the URI of the resource, the function receives the public identifier through the absoluteUri parameter of the GetEntity function. Is there a solution to this. In examples: if I have a DTD declaration like <!DOCTYPE document SYSTEM "document.dtd"> then the custom resolver correctly receives the string "document.dtd" through the absoluteUri parameter of the GetEntity function. if I have a DTD declaration like <!DOCTYPE document PUBLIC "-//Organization//DTD Document 1.0//EN" "http://localhost/document.dtd"> then the custom resolver incorrectly receives the string "-//Organization//DTD Document 1.0//EN" instead of "scheme://host/document.dtd".

    If I have a class that I want to be able to sort (ie support a less-than concept), and it has several data items such that I need to do lexicographic ordering then I need something like this: struct MyData { string surname; string forename; bool operator<(const MyData& other) const { return surname < other.surname || (surname==other.surname && forename < other.forename); } }; This becomes pretty unmanageable for anything with more than 2 data members. Are there any simpler ways of achieving it? The data members may be any Comparable class.

    I have ExtJS based application. I have compound object on the server side, and have ExtJS window with few tabs for editing different parts of this one object. For example: I Have Compound object "Car" public class Car { public string Name; public string Color; public List Wheels; public List Doors; } And on my ExtJS window i have tabs ("General Info", "Wheels", "Doors") for editing different parts of this object. So what i want: When i want to create a new car i want to generate JSON configuration for my class "Car" like {Name:null; Color:null; Wheels:[]; Doors:[]} then sent it to the client, fill it on the client (without callbacks to server) and after user finishes creating his Car object (he added wheels, doors, set name and color) and press save, I want to sent this filled(generated) JSON object to server and save it to DB.     Over and over again I notive myself getting a list from hibernate, and the first thing next is put it in an idmap like: List<House> entities = s.createCriteria(House.class).list(); Map<String,House> entitymap = new HashMap<String,House>(); for(TA_entity e:entities){ entitymap.put(e.getId(), e); } Is there a way to get this directly out of hibenerate? afterall Hibernate is familiar with the id.

Removing the const in front of result makes the code work correctly.     Hello, I have a portion of C code that I am trying to port over to C#. In my C code, I create a socket and then issue a receive command. The receive command is void receive(mysocket, char * command_buffer) { recv(mysocket, command_buffer, COMMAND_BUFFER_SIZE, 0); } now, the command buffer is returned with new values including command_buffer[8] being a pointer to a string. I'm really confused as to how to do this in C# because C# Read() command specifically takes in bytes and not char. The important part is that I get the pointer to the string. Any ideas?

    Well after fiddling with MVVM light to get my button to enable and disable when I want it to... I sort of mashed things together until it worked. However, I just know I'm doing something wrong here. I have RaiseCanExecuteChanged and CanExecute in the same area being called. Surely this is not how it's done?     Let's say I read in a string from somewhere that contains a date, and it's date format doesn't abbreviate the month. Is there a module that can handle reading it in, and then outputting it to whichever format I choose? I've taken a quick look through CPAN, and every date module I looked at didn't seem to accommodate an unabbreviated month. Thanks for any help EDIT: As an example, say we have a string like this; "2 February 1988". Now we want to convert it into "1988-02-02" (YYYY-MM-DD).

  • C# how to sort a list without implementing IComparable manually?

    I have a fairly complex scenario and I need to ensure items I have in a list are sorted. Firstly the items in the list are based on a struct that contains a sub struct. For example: public struct topLevelItem { public custStruct subLevelItem; } public struct custStruct { public string DeliveryTime; } Now I have a list comprised of topLevelItems for example: var items = new List<topLevelItem>(); I need a way to sort on the DeliveryTime ASC. What also adds to the complexity is that the DeliveryTime field is a string. Since these structs are part of a reusable API, I can't modify that field to a DateTime, neither can I implement IComparable in the topLevelItem class. Any ideas how this can be done? Thank you
