• xcopy failing within TFSbuild

  I am using TFS2008 and within my TFSBuild.proj file I have a target that call xcopy to copy the build to the production website location for automation. • ASP.NET MVC 4 async child action

  I have an ASP.NET MVC 4 application targeting .NET 4.5. One of our child actions makes a call out to a web service using HttpClient. Since we're blocking on IO waiting for the HttpClient response, it makes a great deal of sense to convert the code to the async/await pattern. However, when MVC 4 attempts to execute the child action, we get the following error message: HttpServerUtility.Execute blocked while waiting for an asynchronous operation to complete. At first glance, it appears as though MVC 4 does not support async/await within a child action. The only remaining option is to run using synchronous code and force a "Wait" on the async task. As we all know, touching .Result or .Wait() on an async task in an ASP.NET context will cause an immediate deadlock. My async logic is wrapped in a class library, so I can't use the "await blah.ConfigureAwait(false)" trick. Remember, tagging "async" on the child action and using await causes an error, and that prevents me from configuring the await. I'm painted into a corner at this point. Is there any way to consume async methods in an MVC 4 child action? Seems like a flat out bug with no workarounds.

• Qt: Force QWebView to click on a web element, even one not visible on the window

What I mean is if you have to scroll down to see it, you can't click it. I imagine this has to do with the geometry, since the element doesn't show up on the screen it can't do the math to click it right. Any ideas to get around this? Maybe some way to make the window behave like a billion x billion pixels but still look 200x200?

  Is there any way to detect which windows XP theme is in use? I suspect that there is no specific api call you can make, but you may be able to figure it out by checking something on some DOM element, ie feature detection. • Javascript/CSS rollover menus are patented and subject to licensing?

  Very interesting finding that a client brought to my attention today regarding javascript style rollover menus. They got a call from their legal dept that they need to change the manner in which their rollover menu is activated (at the risk of having to pay license to continue using the navigation technique). Its no April fools joke, apparently this is really happening. Apparently a company named Webvention LLC has obtained enforcement rights to a patent, U.S. Patent No. 5,251,294 - "Accessing, assembling, and using bodies of Information." A menu link, that when rolled over, expands to show a list of categorized, related links. Dropdown menus and slide-out menus are examples of this patented navigational methodology. A key component of this patent is that the dropdown/slide-out action must be initiated by a rollover or mouseover event. If the dropdown/slide-out action is initiated by any other event, such as a mouse-click event, then this behavior is not in violation of the patent. • JDBC connection for a background thread being closed accessing in Websphere

  Hi, I have an application running in Websphere Portal Server inside of Websphere Application Server 6.0 (WAS). In this application for one particular functionality that takes a long time to complete, I am firing a new thread that performs this action. This new thread opens a new Session from Hibernate and starts performing DB transactions with it. Sometimes (haven't been able to see a pattern), the transactions inside the thread work fine and the process completes successfully. Other times however I get the errors below: org.hibernate.exception.GenericJDBCException: could not load an entity: [OBJECT NAME#218294] ... Caused by: com.ibm.websphere.ce.cm.ObjectClosedException: DSRA9110E: Connection is closed. Method cleanup failed while trying to execute method cleanup on ManagedConnection WSRdbManagedConnectionImpl@642aa0d8 from resource jdbc/MyJDBCDataSource. Caught exception: com.ibm.ws.exception.WsException: DSRA0080E: An exception was received by the Data Store Adapter. See original exception message: Cannot call 'cleanup' on a ManagedConnection while it is still in a transaction.. How can I stop this from happening? Why does it seem that WAS wants to kill my connections even though they're not done. Is there a way I can stop WAS from attempting to close this particular connection? Thanks

• no statement parsed and wrong number or types of arguments - cfstoredproc

  I have an Oracle procedure - editBacklog which I'm calling from a CFM page via cfstoredproc. After several changes to the procedure I started getting ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'EDITBACKLOG'. I've gotten this before and found that if I changed the name of the procedure it starts working again. I changed the name to editBacklog2 and it worked as I expected it to. I changed the name back to editBacklog and got the same error. I changed the name back to editBacklog2 again and started getting ORA-01003: no statement parsed. NOTHING has changed at this point except for the names. I changed the name yet again to editBacklog3 and it works as expected. As of right now editBacklog = ORA-06550 editBacklog2 = ORA-01003 editBacklog3 = works (kinda) This whole thing started when I was trying to fix an ORA-01821: date format not recognized error. I fear when I start changing things I'll start getting the same lame behavior described above. Either Oracle or CF is messing with me and I'll end up liking one of them less because of it. I assume it's probably cfstoredproc caching metadata or something but neither google, livedocs, or OTN have much to say about my situation. I'm not the SA or DBA. Anyone have any ideas?

• Problem with JSONResult

  Hi, I' still newby to this so I'll try to explain what I'm doing. Basically what I want is to load a dropdownlist depending on the value of a previous one, and I want it to load the data and appear when the other one is changed. This is the code I've written in my controller: public ActionResult GetClassesSearch(bool ajax, string phylumID, string kingdom){ IList<TaxClass> lists = null; int _phylumID = int.Parse(phylumID); int _kingdom = int.Parse(kingdom); lists = _taxon.getClassByPhylumSearch(_phylumID, _kingdom); return Json(lists.count); } and this is how I call the method from the javascript function: function loadClasses(_phylum) { var phylum = _phylum.value; $.getJSON("/Suspension/GetClassesSearch/", { ajax: true, phylumID: phylum, kingdom: kingdom }, function(data) { alert(data); alert('no fallo') document.getElementById("pClass").style.display = "block"; document.getElementById("sClass").options[0] = new Option("-select-", "0", true, true); //for (i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { // $('#sClass').addOption(data[i].classID, data[i].className); //} }); } The thing is that just like this it works, I pass the function the number of classes within a selected phylum, and it displays the pclass element, the problem gets when I try to populate the slist with data (which should contain the objects retrieved from the database), because when there is data returned by the database changing return Json(lists) instead of return Json(lists.count) I keep getting the same error: A circular reference was detected while serializing an object of type 'SubSonic.Schema.DatabaseColumn'. I've been going round and round debugging and making tests but I can't make it work, and it is suppossed to be a simple thing, but I'm missing something. I have commented the for loop because I'm not quite sure if that's the way you access the data, because I've not been able to make it work when it finds records. Can anyone help me? • Android media thumbnails. Serious issues?

  I've been playing with android's thumbnails for a while now, and I've seen some inconsistencies that make me want to scream. My goal is to have a simple list of all Images (and a separate list for video) with the thumbnail and filename. Device: HTC Evo (fresh from Google I/o) First off: http://androidsamples.blogspot.com/2009/06/how-to-display-thumbnails-of-images.html That code doesn't seem to work at all, thumbnails are duplicated... some with the "mirror" effect and some without. Also some won't load and just display a black square. I've tried rebuilding the thumbnails by deleting the "alblum thumbs" directory from the SD card. HTC's gallery application seem to show everything fine. This approach seems to work: Bitmap thumb = MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.getThumbnail( getContentResolver(), id, MediaStore.Video.Thumbnails.MICRO_KIND, null); imageView.setImageBitmap(curThumb); where id is the original images id and imageView is some image view. This is great! But, strangely, way too slow to be used inside a SimpleViewBinder. Next approach: String [] proj = {MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails._ID}; Cursor c = managedQuery(MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, proj, MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.IMAGE_ID + "=" +id , null, null); if (c != null && c.moveToFirst()) { Uri thumb = Uri.withAppendedPath(mThumbUri,c.getLong(0)+""); imageView.setImageURI(thumb); } I should explain that I feel the needed WHERE condition is required because there doesn't seem to be any guarantee that your uri will have the same ID for both a thumbnail and its parent image. This works for all of the current images, but as soon as I start adding pictures with the camera they show up as blank! Debugging shows a dreaded: SkImageDecoder::Factory returned null error and the URI is returned as invalid. These are the same images that work with the previous call. Can anyone either catch my logical failure or point me to some working code?

• Rails add a param to the end of a search query

  Hello, I am trying to implement a sort on the returned results of a search with rails. Filter by: 'recent' % | 'lowest_price' % | 'highest_price' % here are my links. I would like to add a filter to the end of my search query. So for example, I submit a search and I get back results and in my url I have http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go! I would then like the user to be able to click one of the above links and have the page come back with a new query (i have this set up in the controller like such) con_id = params[:condition] if params[:category].nil? || params[:category].empty? cat_id = params[:category] results = Junk.search params[:search], :with => { :category_id => cat_id, :condition_id => con_id } case params[:filter] when "lowest_price" @junks = results.lowest_price.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 12 when "highest_price" @junks = results.highest_price.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 12 else @junks = results.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 12 end else I would like the user to be able to click on of the above links and append a filter param to the end of the search query so that my controller can pick it up and call the correct database queries as seen in the case statement above. I'm guessing the url will look like this http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go!&filter="lowest_price" How can I do this? Is there a better way?

• PyQt and unittest - how to handle signals and slots

  Hello, some small application I'm developing uses a module I have written to check certain web services via a REST API. I've been trying to add unit tests to it so I don't break stuff, and I stumbled upon a problem. I use a lot of signal-slot connections to perform operations asynchronously. For example a typical test would be (pseudo-Python), with postDataDownloaded as a signal: def testConnection(self): "Test connection and posts retrieved" def length_test(): self.assertEqual(len(self.client.post_data), 5) self.client.postDataReady.connect(length_test) self.client.get_post_list(limit=5) Now, unittest will report this test to be "ok" when running, regardless of the result (as another slot is being called), even if asserts fail (I will get an unhandled AssertionError). Example when deliberatiely making the test fail: Test connection and posts retrieved ... ok [... more tests...] OK Traceback (most recent call last): [...] AssertionError: 4 != 5 The slot inside the test is merely an experiment: I get the same results if it's outside (instance method). I also have to add that the various methods I'm calling all make HTTP requests, which means they take a bit of time (I need to mock the request - in the mean time I'm using SimpleHTTPServer to fake the connections and give them proper data). Is there a way around this problem?

• Can I copy the CollapsiblePanelExtender in jQuery as one method?

  I am beginning the process of moving away from the AjaxControlToolkit and toward jQuery. What I want to do is have one function that duplicates the functionality of the CollapsiblePanelExtender. For a particular set of hyperlink and div, the code looks like this: $('#nameHyperLink').click(function() { var div = $('#nameDiv'); var link = $('#nameHyperLink'); if (div.css('display') == 'none') { link.text('Hide Data'); div.show(400); } else { link.text('Show Data'); div.hide(400); } }); What I really want to do is only have to write this function once, then use it for many (approx 40) instances throughout my website. • SSIS Intermittent variable error: The system cannot find the file specified

  Our SSIS pacakges a structured as one Control package and many child packages (about 30) that are invoked from the control package. The child packages are invoked with Execute Package Task. There is one Execute Package Task per child package. Each Execute Package Task uses File Connection Manager to specify path to the child package dtsx file. There is one File Connection Manager per child package. Each File Connection Manager has an expression defined for ConnectionString property. This expression looks like this: @[Template::FolderPackages]+"MyPackage.dtsx", the file name is different for each package. The variable (FolderPackages) is specified in the SSIS package configuration file. The error that is generated during run time is "Error 0x80070002 while loading package file "MyPackage.dtsx". The system cannot find the file specified." The package that fails is different from run to run and sometimes no packages fail at all. This is when run on exactly the same environment/data etc. I ran FileMon during this error and found out that when the error happens SSIS tries to read the dtsx file from a wrong place, namely from system32. I checked that this is identical to what would happen if @[Template::FolderPackages] variable were empty, but because the very same variable is used for every child package and works for some but doesn't work sometimes for others, I have no expalnation to this fact. Anything obvious, or time to raise a support call with Microsoft?

• Handling mach exceptions in 64bit OS X application

  I have been able to register my own mach port to capture mach exceptions in my applications and it works beautifully when I target 32 bit. However when I target 64 bit, my exception handler catch_exception_raise() gets called but the array of exception codes that is passed to the handler are 32 bits wide. This is expected in a 32 bit build but not in 64 bit. In the case where I catch EXC_BAD_ACCESS the first code is the error number and the second code should be the address of the fault. Since the second code is 32 bits wide the high 32 bits of the 64 bit fault address is truncated. I found a flag in <mach/exception_types.h> I can pass in task_set_exception_ports() called MACH_EXCEPTION_CODES which from looking at the Darwin sources appears to control the size of the codes passed to the handler. It looks like it is meant to be ored with the behavior passed in to task_set_exception_ports(). However when I do this and trigger an exception, my mach port gets notified, I call exc_server() but my handler never gets called, and when the reply message is sent back to the kernel I get the default exception behavior. I am targeting the 10.6 SDK. I really wish apple would document this stuff better. Any one have any ideas?

• Rails: Should partials be aware of instance variables?

  Ryan Bates' nifty_scaffolding, for example, does this edit.html.erb <%= render :partial => 'form' %> new.html.erb <%= render :partial => 'form' %> _form.html.erb <%= form_for @some_object_defined_in_action %> That hidden state makes me feel uncomfortable, so I usually like to do this edit.html.erb <%= render :partial => 'form', :locals => { :object => @my_object } %> _form.html.erb <%= form_for object %> So which is better: a) having partials access instance variables or b) passing a partial all the variables it needs? I've been opting for b) as of late, but I did run into a little pickle: some_action.html.erb <% @dad.sons.each do |a_son| %> <%= render :partial => 'partial', :locals => { :son => a_son } %> <% end %> _partial.html.erb The son's name is <%= son.name %> The dad's name is <%= son.dad.name %> son.dad makes a database call to fetch the dad! So I would either have to access @dad, which would be going back to a) having partials access instance variables or I would have to pass @dad in locals, changing render :partial to <%= render :partial = 'partial', :locals = { :dad = @dad, :son = a_son } %, and for some reason passing a bunch of vars to my partial makes me feel uncomfortable. Maybe others feel this way as well. Hopefully that made some sense. Looking for some insight into this whole thing... Thanks!

• Laravel - public layout not needed in every function

  I have just recently started working with Laravel. Great framework so far! However I have a question. I am using a layout template like this: public $layout = 'layouts.private'; This is set in my Base_Controller: public function __construct(){ //Styles Asset::add('reset', 'css/reset.css'); Asset::add('main', 'css/main.css'); //Scripts Asset::add('jQuery', 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.8.1/jquery.min.js'); //Switch layout template according to the users auth credentials. if (Auth::check()) { $this -> layout = 'layouts.private'; } else { $this -> layout = 'layouts.public'; } parent::__construct(); } However I get an error exception now when I try to access functions in my diffrent controllers, which should not call any view, i.e. when a user is going to login: class Login_Controller extends Base_Controller { public $restful = true; public function post_index() { $user = new User(); $credentials = array('username' => Input::get('email'), 'password' => Input::get('password')); if (Auth::attempt($credentials)) { } else { } } } The error I get, is that I do not set the content of the different variables in my public $layout. But since no view is needed in this function, how do I tell Laravel not to include the layout in this function? The best solution that I my self have come a cross (don't know if this is a bad way?) is to unset($this -> layout); from function post_index()... To sum up my question: how do I tell Laravel not to include public $layout in certain functions, where a view is not needed? Thanks in advance, fischer

• Mixing NIO with IO

  Hi Usually you have a single bound tcp port and several connections on these. At least there are usually more connections as bound ports. My case is different: I want to bind a lot of ports and usually have no (or at least very few) connections. So I want to use NIO to accept the incoming connections. However, I need to pass the accepted connections to the existing jsch ssh library. That requires IO sockets instead of NIO sockets, it spawns one (or two) thread(s) per connection. But that's fine for me. Now, I thought that the following lines would deliver the very same result: Socket a = serverSocketChannel.accept().socket(); Socket b = serverSocketChannel.socket().accep(); SocketChannel channel = serverSocketChannel.accpet(); channel.configureBlocking( true ); Socket c = channel.socket(); Socket d = serverSocket.accept(); However the getInputStream() and getOutputStream() functions of the returned sockets seem to work different. Only if the socket was accepted using the last call, jsch can work with it. In the first three cases, it fails (and I am sorry: I don't know why). So is there a way to convert such a socket? • Fancybox "close" hangs/delays in IE7/8

  I'm having an issue with IE7/8 only on a development site: when closing the Fancybox, there is a major delay, sometimes about ten seconds or so, sometimes much longer (like a minute). Some things that might be relevant: • Using fancybox 1.3.1 • Works perfectly on all other browsers (FF, Safari, Opera, Chrome) • The loaded iframe contains a flash "virtual tour" • There are no errors reported in IE's Dev Toolbar or in DebugBar • The fancybox renders perfectly in IE, and after it has closed, there is not a problem loading it again. The closing seems to be the only issue. (That, and that it crashed the client's browser once, but I'm inclined to believe that had more to do with the content of the iframe than fancybox). I changed the link to the iFrame to something simpler (google), and it closed with no problem. So it does seem to have something to do with a conflict with the content of the iframe.
