• Toggle "ask for password after screensaver/sleep" or the delay in 10.7 using terminal

  There's an option in the preference panel to change the time the mac is able to be in sleep/screensaver before requiring a password to be unlocked again. I'm using OS X Lion 10.7. Is there any way to change this setting using the terminal or an applescript? I tried to change the plist file using: defaults write com.apple.screensaver askForPasswordDelay -int 60 also tried defaults write com.apple.screensaver askForPasswordDelay -float 60 also completely disabling the password didnt work either defaults write com.apple.screensaver askForPassword -int 0 The plist file was changed, but it had no effects at all. It's the same plist file that gets changed when manually switching the setting in the preferences. Would be awesome if anyone got an idea how to fix my problem. EDIT: also tried to: 1) add -currentHost flag 2) drop the -int / -float

• Apache .htaccess problem: No input file specified.

  Hello Everyone, Can someone help me with this. I'm feeling like I've been hitting my head against a wall for over 2 hrs now. I've got Apache 2.2.8 + PHP 5.2.6 installed on my machine and the .htacces with code below works fine, no errors. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|css|gfx|js|swf|robots\.txt|favicon\.ico) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] The same code on my hosting provider server gives me a 404 error code and outputs only: No input file specified. index.php IS there. I know they have Apache installed (cannot find version info anywhere) and they're running PHP v5.2.8. I'm on windows xp 64-bit, they're running some Linux and php in cgi/fastcgi mode. Can anyone suggest what could be the problem? PS. if that's important that's for CodeIgniter to work with friendly URLs.

• Website filtering for OpenVPN clients

  I am currently trying to block some websites by their domain names for all the clients of my OpenVPN server. My first idea was to use the /etc/hosts file. But, its effects seem to be limited to the host only and not to be taken in consideration by OpenVPN. I then tried to configure bind9 and to interface it with OpenVPN, but that solution was unsuccessful and uneasy to use. After this, I considered using iptables to drop all the packets from/to those websites but that forum thread made me thought otherwise since iptables' behavior with FQDN may generate complex issues. Have you got a solution to block websites for all clients using an OpenVPN server on which I am root?

• Installing MoinMoin -wiki to my user directory on a server with no root access

  Hello all, I posted this on webapps, but they told me to come here :) I've been trying to install MoinMoin -wiki on this webserver, where I have no root access. The server doesn't support wsgi, but it does support cgi/fcgi/etc. I've scoured google for a simple guide on how to accomplish this, but the only guides I found were from the year 2004 or so. Other guides always assumed that one has root access. So can anyone link a good tutorial for my question or just help me out here? Your help is appreciated :) P.S. • OMG. Is Webmin safe? I can see file codes in Chrome browser without login

  When Im in File Manager of Webmin, I can double click and see the codes of the files in new tab in Firefox with its specific URL. But when I remove ?rand=xxxx... after the file.php and paste the URL in Chrome browser, I still can see the codes. This is the URL I just pasted in the Chrome browser http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000/file/show.cgi/var/www/html/mysite.com/files/file.php And then, I logout of webmin, and I change the file.php with other file, I can see the codes. OMG. Is Webmin safe? and how to secure this?

  I've got ubuntu 10.04 installed, as well as: lighttpd mysql/php Now my problem is that my php scripts can be executed and has access to MySQL database, however I'm having problems getting php to display all errors when running. The result of a failed php run is a blank page. I tried setting the display errors on in php.ini in /etc/php5/cgi/php.ini I've also tried adding these two lines in the source to force errors on, to no avail. ini_set('display_errors', '1'); error_reporting(E_ALL); What should I do? • Is it safe to use an IDE to SATA power adapter for an extended period of time?

  I just bought a computer from HP and they failed to include SATA power connectors with the power supply other then the one HD and DVD drive. Meanwhile I have two IDE to SATA power adapters that came with my "USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE cable" http://www.amazon.com/USB-2-0-SATA-Cable-Adapter/dp/B001OORN06 3rd pic on the left. I was wondering if I would just open up my computer and use it to plug it my SATA drives to the IDE power sources and mount it to the motherboard, would it damage my drives in the long run or have any other significant effects.   I've set up IIS6 with FastCGI to use php-cgi.exe. I have some php websites by external parties, that I'm trying to run in a test environment. One of the websites just plain gives me a FastCGI Error Page. Question: Is there some way to enable logging somewhere so that I can get a bit more information on this problem? I have looked in Eventlog IIS Website log (c:\windows\system32\Logfiles) PHP log But no results, except the IIS Website log mentions a return of a 500 page. • SSH and Latent Connections (e.g., satellite connections)

  Most of the week I live in the city where I have a typical broadband connection, but most weekends I'm out of town and only have access to a satellite connection. Trying to work over SSH on a satellite connection, while possible, is hardly desirable due to the high latency ( 1 second). My question is this: Is there any software that will do something like buffering keystrokes on my local machine before they're sent over SSH to help make the lag on individual keystrokes a little bit more transparent? Essentially I'm looking for something that would reduce the effects of the high latency for everything except for commands (e.g., opening files, changing to a new directory, etc.). I've already discovered that vim can open remote files locally and rewrite them remotely, but, while this is a huge help, it is not quite what I'm looking for since it only works when editing files, and requires opening a connection every time a read/write occurs. (For anyone who may not know how to do this and is curious, just use this command: 'vim scp://host/file/path/here)

• nagiosgraph new services not showing

  I am using Nagios Core with Nagiosgraph and had only enabled graphing for cpu usage for a while. This worked fine, but now i wanted to add some more services (for example memory usage). The new services are not working (no rrd data is generated). The Nagiosgraph site only says "no data available" and I get no error in apache log, nagiosgraph.log or nagiosgraph-cgi.log. The new services are standard services (nsclient++ MEMUSE for example) and of course they are included in the map file. If I execute the checks manually, it shows also the perfdata. I added the services by enabling the "graphed-service" use. Did I miss something?

I would like to buy a hardware for that and i am trying to understand if i should buy a desktop and host the webserver on that or do i have to buy some used server from ebay and host on it. • Restrict Applications access to Device

  I have a PC that has the ability to handle running multiple game clients at once (specifically Tera Online). What I'd like to do is assign and/or restrict each clients access to a device (Gamepad) so that the actions from each device only effects the client I specify. After doing some research with Python's PyGame, I can see that a Gamepad essentially works like a Keyboard does by sending global key events to the entire system, and then the application reading those events. Question is, how can I make it not global? ONly have one application read one controller? Any help is appreciated!

• Raid system fails to boot after moving from 2.6 kernel to 3.5

  I'm running Gentoo Linux with a custom compiled kernel and I've just migrated from a 2.6 kernel to a 3.5. As my HD's are on RAID 0 mode I use a custom initrd file in order to be able to boot. While kernel 2.6 is able to boot without problems the new 3.5 compiled kernel fails to boot complaining about no block devices found. After taking a look at initrd.cpio contained scripts I can see the failure message is given by mdadm tool. Does anyone has a clue about that? Edit: this morning i noticed there was some kind of issue on my old initrd which works fine for 2.6 kernels, so created a new initrd which works fine and let me to boot into GNU/Gentoo Linux with same 3.5 bzImage. • IIS 7.5 with PHP 5.3, displaying errors on page

  I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2, with IIS 7.5 and PHP 5.3 (configured by FastCGI). In my php.ini I have: log_errors = On display_errors = Off error_log = syslog (also tried an actual file with appropriate permissions) Each time a page contains an error, it is never logged anywhere, but it is displayed on the page (unless I turn log_errors off). I'm guessing that the stderr from php-cgi.exe is being put on the page, instead of being logged where it is supposed to be. Is there a setting somewhere that allows me to log these errors properly?

  I have just acquired a server with: 2x quadcore Xeons 48G ECC RAM 5x 160GB SSDs on an LSI 9260-8i Before deploying the target platform, I'd like to collect as much benchmark data as possible, testing I/O with hardware RAID in various configurations, ZFS zRAID, as well as I/O performance on vSphere and with KVM virtualization. In order to see real disk I/O performance without cache effects, I tried running Iozone with a maximum file of more than twice the physical RAM as recommended in the documentation, so: iozone -a -g100G However, as one might expect, this takes far too long to be practicable. (I stopped the run after seven hours..) I'd like to reduce the range of record and file sizes to values that might reflect realistic performance for an application server, hopefully getting the run times to under an hour or so. Any ideas?   Since Apache 2.4 I've started using mod_remoteip instead of mod_extract_forwarded for rewriting client address from x-forwarded-for provided by frontend servers (varnish, squid, apache etc). So far everything works fine with the modules, i.e. php, cgi, wsgi etc... - client addresses are shown as they should be, but I couldn't write client address in access logs (%a, %h, %{c}a). No luck - I'm always getting 127.0.0.1 (localhost forward ex.). How to log client's ip address when using mod_remoteip?
