  The inaugural JMaghreb conference was held on November 2-3 in Morocco. Organized by the Morocco JUG, this was the first conference of it's kind in the North-West African Maghreb region. The conference was a runaway success with 1400+ attendees from 5 different countries, 30 sessions and 18 world-class speakers. Arun Gupta along with Simon Ritter delivered the keynote. Arun also presented a session on JSR 356/WebSocket and a full-house Java EE 6 hands-on lab. Sonya Barry spoke about the JCP and java.net. • Keyboard "type ahead" in CRUD web apps?

  In some data entry contexts, I've seen data typists, type really fast and know so well the app they use, and have a mechanic quality in their work so that they can "type ahead", ie continue typing and "tab-bing" and "enter-ing" faster than the display updates, so that in many occasions they are typing in the data for the next form before it draws itself. Then when this next entry form appears, their keystrokes fill the text boxes and they continue typing, selecting etc. In contexts like this, this speed is desirable, since this persons are really productive. I think this "type ahead of time" is only possible in desktop apps, but I may be wrong. My question is whether this way of handling the keyboard buffer (which in desktop apps require no extra programming) is achievable in web apps, or is this impossible because of the way web apps work, handle sessions, etc (network latency and the overhead of generating new web pages ) ?

I wish the SQL Server team would give it as much love. Service Broker is a wonderful technology, let down by poor resourcing. Microsoft did an excellent job of building the plumbing for this product in SQL Server 2005 but then provided no management tools and no prescriptive guidance. • OmniGraffle for iPad Now Supports VGA Output

  I have (surprisingly) gotten a lot of comments over the last post about using OmniGraffle as an interactive EA tool.  The news flash/update is that it now supports VGA output.  I had sent a note to the developers and they responded that this was a highly sought after feature…well, they delivered. I have tried it informally and it works, thought there is a little lag between the drawing on the screen and the output, but it is not terrible. That's right!  Oracle OpenWorld officially starts today with the Oracle Users Forum. Ton's of great technical sessions selected by the Oracle User Groups get under way this morning at 8 am (Doh!). • How to use RDP protocol in Remote Desktop Viewer?

  I am using a Natty Live-USB, and the Remote Desktop Viewer application (Applications - Internet - Remote Desktop Viewer) only shows SSH & VNC protocols. How can I include RDP in the list, in order to connect to existing Windows Remote Desktop sessions on Windows XP machines. I am aware that I can use the gnome-rdp application, or even rdesktop hostname from a terminal, but I would like to create a persistent LiveUSB that uses Remote Desktop Viewer to connect to Windows RDP (port 3389). I do not want to set up VNC, TeamViewer or any others, as these do not solve my problem due to the fact they need additional software on the remote hosts.

• Cannot access system after deleting passwd file

  I was trying to change my user name and also my /home/username and my system started to crash. I deleted the passwd file but I had a backup named passwd_bkp. I tried to rename this passwd_bkp as passwd and it did not work. No commands were being executed... I was in a terminal window. I re-started my system and now I cannot login. The GRub loads two options: Linux and recovery mode. I tried to open a sessions as root but it says the file system is corrupted. I cannot access my files. Did I lose all my files?
