  • Problems with binding to Window Height and Width

    I have some problems when I try to bind the height and width of a window to properties in my view model. Here is a small sample app to illustrate the problem. This is the code in app.xaml.xs public partial class App : Application { protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e) { base.OnStartup(e); MainWindow mainWindow = new MainWindow(); MainWindowViewModel mainWindowViewModel = new MainWindowViewModel(); mainWindow.DataContext = mainWindowViewModel; mainWindow.Show(); } } This is MainWindow.xaml: <Window x:Class="TestApp.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Height="{Binding WindowHeight}" Width="{Binding WindowWidth}" BorderThickness="{Binding WindowBorderThickness}"> </Window> And this is the view model: public class MainWindowViewModel { public int WindowWidth { get { return 100; } } public int WindowHeight { get { return 200; } } public int WindowBorderThickness { get { return 8; } } } When the program is started the getters of WindowHeight and WindowBorderThickness (but not WindowWidth) are called, so the height and the border of the window is set properly, but not the width. I then add button that will trigger PropertyChanged for all properties, so that the view model now looks like this: public class MainWindowViewModel : INotifyPropertyChanged { public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; public void TriggerPropertyChanges() { if (PropertyChanged != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs("WindowWidth")); PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs("WindowHeight")); PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs("WindowBorderThickness")); } } public ICommand ButtonCommand { get { return new RelayCommand(delegate { TriggerPropertyChanges(); }); } } public int WindowWidth { get { return 100; } } public int WindowHeight { get { return 200; } } public int WindowBorderThickness { get { return 8; } } } Now, when I click the button, the getter of WindowBorderThickness is called, but not the ones for WindowWidth and WindowHeight. It all just seems very weird and inconsistent to me. What am I missing?

  • How to restrict focus in textbox

    I have a dialog with few controls. There is a TextBox named txtControl and two Buttons Accept and Cancel. I want that once the focus is in txtControl, the focus should not go away, until I click on Accept or Cancel button. If I try to click on any other control without clicking on Accept or Cancel button, then focus should remains in txtControl. Also I don't want to disable or gay out other controls.

  • Desine time XAML serialization problem in VS2010 Designer

    The wired problem is, in VS 2008, everything works fine. In VS2010 while serializing, it is missing the "ReportDimensionElements" so I'm unable to get the values back from the serialized value back from the XAML. It says, "'ReportDimensionElements' is null" am I missing anything silly. Note: I have marked the ReportDimensionElements class with [DefaultValue(null)] for avoiding {x:Null} being serialized. Will it be causing this by any way?     Hi, Just wanted to share a small Grid I created, which can help prevent blurry text etc. as it adjusts the margin of the Grid to ensure a pixel perfect position and size of the grid. Works great e.g. for inside StackPanels with auto height Labels/TextBlocks.   • Extending DataGrid/Changing DataGrids header

    Is there any way how to override DataGrids header line ? Or at least its behaviour ? I'm trying to implement Outlook-like grouping of the table. That is allow user to drag column header out of the table to the dedicated area to sort by that column (for example XamDataGrid has that feature, you can see how it works here). I cannot use any commercial solutions. I will be thankfull for any experiences, ideas, code, notes or tutorials.

  • Accessing and manipulating lwpf listbox datatemplate elements

    Hello good people , i'm trying to achieve a functionality but i'm don't know how to start it. My problem right now is that i don't know how to do that.   • Can't find this.Controls - what am I missing?

    Sorry for a potentially dumb question, I am still new at this. I really appreciate your help. Referring to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1536739/c-get-control-by-name/1536756#1536756 But I don't have a "this.Controls" available. Is there something I am missing here? In other words, when I type "this." and visual studio populates a list of option, there is no "Controls" option.

    I have Button control and I have to set the IsEanbled property based on the bool variable. bool IsBoolVariable I want if IsBoolVariable property is true then I want to set the IsEnabled property to false AND when IsBoolVariable property is false then I want to set the IsEnabled property to true. Is it possible to apply not(!) operator while defining the binding as given below <Button IsEnabled = "{Binding Path = **!**IsBoolVariable}" /> I can very well do that by applying convertors , but that is the only way to do that?

  • 3D and AI basics. The foundation before the coding.

    Hi, everyone. (If you have the time and patience:) I've recently made the decision to study programming seriously and I'm about to order TAOCP and Concrete Mathematics to begin my studies (please don't get caught up on this). I'm very much interested in learning and understanding how 3D works but I'm aware that if I plan to do it right there's still a long walk before I get to actually play with 3D coding. Now to the question.. (tl;dr) Excluding programming itself, what disciplines do I have to be familiar with to code 3D? What kinds of mathematics? Physics? What else? What books do you recommend on such subjects? Now read it all again but replacing "3D" with "AI". Please don't recommend computer-specific books. The question is about the foundation to be learned before using the machine. Also, if possible, please keep the list brief; I plan to order one book on each subject but no more than that for now. Excuse me for any English mistakes, it's not my first language. Thank you.

  • F# WPF Form &ndash; the basics

    I was listening to Dot Net Rocks show #560 about F# and during the podcast Richard Campbell brought up a good point with regards to F# and a GUI. In essence what I understood his point to be was that until one could write an end to end application in F#, it would be a hard sell to developers to take it on. In part I agree with him, while I am beginning to really enjoy learning F#, I can’t but help feel that I would be a lot further into the language if I could do my Windows Forms like I do in C# or VB.NET for the simple reason that in “playing” applications I spend the majority of the time in the UI layer… So I have been keeping my eye out for some examples of creating a WPF form in a F# project and came across Tim’s F# Twitter Stream Sample, which had exactly this…. of course he actually had a bit more than a basic form… but it was enough for me to scrap the insides and glean what I needed. So today I am going to make just the very basic WPF form with all the goodness of a XAML window. Getting Started First thing we need to do is create a new solution with a blank F# application project – I have made mine called FSharpWPF. Once you have the project created you will need to change the project type from a Console Application to a Windows Application. You do this by right clicking on the project file and going to its properties… Once that is done you will need to add the appropriate references. You do this by right clicking on the References in the Solution Explorer and clicking “Add Reference'”. You should add the appropriate .Net references below for WPF & XAMl to work. Once these references are added you then need to add your XAML file to the project. You can do this by adding a new item to the project of type xml and simply changing the file extension from xml to xaml. Once the xaml file has been added to the project you will need to add valid window XAML. Example of a very basic xaml file is shown below… <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="F# WPF WPF Form" Height="350" Width="525"> <Grid> </Grid> </Window> Once your xaml file is done… you need to set the build action of the xaml file from “None” to “Resource” as depicted in the picture below. If you do not set this you will get an IOException error when running the completed project with a message along the lines of “Cannot locate resource ‘window.xaml’ You then need to tie everything up by putting the correct F# code in the Program.fs to load the xaml window. In the Program.fs put the following code… module Program open System open System.Collections.ObjectModel open System.IO open System.Windows open System.Windows.Controls open System.Windows.Markup [<STAThread>] [<EntryPoint>] let main(_) = let w = Application.LoadComponent(new System.Uri("/FSharpWPF;component/Window.xaml", System.UriKind.Relative)) :?> Window (new Application()).Run(w) Once all this is done you should be able to build and run your project. What you have done is created a WPF based window inside a FSharp project. It should look something like below…   Nothing to exciting, but sufficient to illustrate the very basic WPF form in F#. Hopefully in future posts I will build on this to expose button events etc.
