• SNMP keeps crashing

  We're using OpsView/Nagios to monitor our servers. We've added the SNMP service to all our servers and deployed the configuration via GPO, but one win2k3 server seems to have a problem; it crashes pretty regularly. The event log carries messages like: Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7034 Date: 6/11/2009 Time: 7:11:49 PM User: N/A Computer: HOSTNNAME Description: The SNMP Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). and also Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 6/11/2009 Time: 7:11:18 PM User: N/A Computer: HOSTNAME Description: Faulting application snmp.exe, version 5.2.3790.3959, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.3959, fault address 0x000417af. Now, I could probably set it to simply restart on crash in perpetuity, but I think it's better to fix problems like this. Is this a known problem? If not, what should I do to diagnose it?

• Restore access to Cisco Connect after changing router settings

  I have recently bought Cisco Valet Plus (M20) wireless router (which I recognize now was a mistake, but nevermind). It has two setup options - Cisco Connect software and web-based setup. Cisco Connect software allows changing very small set of settings, web-based setup allows access to almost all settings, except settings for guest network. The problem is that when I use web-based setup, Cisco Connect after some changes refuses to talk to the router, so I can't change guest settings anymore (since web interface doesn't allow to change them). It must be because of some config parameter not matching or some password set wrong - but I don't know where Cisco Connect stores them. So, does anybody have any idea how to make Cisco Connect talk to the router again once I changed the settings through the web interface?

• How to configure a trusted connection between IIS 7 and SQL Server 2005?

  How do configure a trusted connection between IIS 7 and SQL Server 2005? My webapp was working fine with Windows Authentication enabled in IIS. Now, in order to solve a problem, we need to use a trusted connection. Unfortunately, enabling the trusted connection in the web.config broke the webapp. Oddly enough, when I run this application with trusted connection from my local dev machine (using the Cassini web server) IIS (Windows Server 2008) is running on one machine. The database (SQL Server 2005 but could migrate to 2008) is running on another machine. We are on a Windows domain running AD. All traffic is within our own firewall - no public access. Beyond that, I can't provide much info but I can find it. We're very "compartmentalized" (we have server people, security people, oracle people, SQL Server people, etc.) Thanks! Update 02/14/2012 0902: The webapp is now functional (app no longer broken) but the main issue is still unresolved. Now I have the app's application pool running as a domain account with permissions on the SQL Server box and IIS box. We were using this account to run the application but, and here's the problem, we need to log the real user name that made a change. When using the service account, the name of that service account appeared in the audit tables, making the auditing quite useless. So, not I'm at least running again. The connection string in the web.config is using "Trusted_Connection=True", the appPool is using a domain account with access to both boxes, BUT when I make a change (logged in as me) the name of the service account (appPool identity) is still logged in the audit tables. I also manually granted full permissions to the service account on the webapp folder. What do I need to do in order to log my name, not the service account, in the audit tables? Everything I'm reading says I need to establish a trusted connection between the two servers.

  Looking in Web Analytics I could see several external sites pointing at an old .htm file on my web server that no longer existed, so I thought I would get IIS to redirect to the new .aspx replacement. How hard could it be? This has annoyed me for quite a while today so here is the answer. 1. Install the Http Redirection module - this is not installed by default!! Windows 7 Start->Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows Features on or off. Internet Information Services->World Wide Web Services->Common Http Features->HTTP Redirection. Windows Server 2008 Start->Administrative Tools->Server Manager. Roles->Web Server (IIS). Role Services->Add Role Services. Common Http Features->HTTP Redirection. 2. Edit your web.config file <configuration>     .....     <location path="oldfile.htm">         <system.webServer>             <httpRedirect enabled="true" destination="/newfile.aspx" exactDestination="true" childOnly="true" httpResponseStatus="Permanent" />         </system.webServer>     </location>     ..... </configuration> When a user clicks or Google crawls ‘oldfile.htm’ it will get a permanent redirect to ‘/newfile.aspx’ - and should take any Page Rank to the new file.  #

Due to the complexity of the single page, particularly the JavaScripts used, I've think creating a dedicated project for the client side of web development and another for service side will organize and simplify the development. solution | +-- web / client side (single html page, js, css) | - contains asp.net project, and nancy library | to host the modules in application ptoject folder | +-- application / service (nancy modules, bootstrap for other layer) | . . . and other layers (three teir, domain driven, etc) . Is this a good way of organizing a complex single page application? Am I over-engineering the web app, incurring too much complexity?

• Can't connect to svnserve on localhost - connection actively refused

  When I try to connect using Tortoise to my SVN server using: svn://localhost/ Tortoise tells me: "Can't connect to host 'localhost'. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." How can I fix this? I am trying to set up a subversion server on my local PC for personal use. I am running Windows Vista, with SlikSVN and TortoiseSVN installed. I previously had everything working correctly, but I found that I couldn't merge(!), apparently due to a version mismatch between the SVN client and server. Anyway... I now have the following setup: I created a repository using svnadmin create; it resides at C:\svnGrove C:\svnGrove\conf\svnserve.conf (# comments omitted): [general] anon-access=read auth-access=write password-db=passwd #authz-db=authz realm=svnGrove C:\svnGrove\conf\passwd: [users] myname=mypass My Subversion Server service is pointed to: C:\Program Files\SlikSvn\bin\svnserve.exe --service -r C:\svnGrove It shows the TCP/IP service as a dependency. I have also tried running svnserve from the command line, with similar results. The below is provided by the 'about' option in TortoiseSVN: TortoiseSVN 1.6.10, Build 19898 - 32 Bit , 2010/07/16 15:46:08 Subversion 1.6.12, apr 1.3.8 apr-utils 1.3.9 neon 0.29.3 OpenSSL 0.9.8o 01 Jun 2010 zlib 1.2.3 The following is from svn --version on the command line (not sure why it says CollabNet, CollabNet was the previous SVN binary that I had set up. The uninstaller failed to remove everything gracefully): svn, version 1.6.12 (SlikSvn/1.6.12) WIN32 compiled Jun 22 2010, 20:45:29 Copyright (C) 2000-2009 CollabNet. Subversion is open source software, see http://subversion.tigris.org/ This product includes software developed by CollabNet (http://www.Collab.Net/). Edit The old version of svnserve was still set up as a service after the uninstall, pointed to this path: C:\Program Files\Subversion\svn-win32-1.4.6\bin I edited the registry key for the service to point to the new path (shown above). Whether I run svnserve as a service, or using -d, I do not see an entry for that port number in the listing generated by netstat -anp tcp.

• Do you know how to move the Team Foundation Server cache

  There are a number of reasons why you may want to change the folder that you store the TFS Cache. It can take up “some” amount of room so moving it to another drive can be beneficial. This is the source control Cache that TFS uses to cache data from the database. Moving the Cache is pretty easy and should allow you to organise your server space a little more efficiently. You may also get a performance improvement (although small) by putting it on another drive.. Create a new directory to store the Cache. e.g. “d:\TfsCache\” Figure: Create a new folder Give the local TFS WPG group full control of the directory   Figure: You need to use the App Tier Service WPG In the application tier web.config (~\Application Tier\Web Services\web.config) add the following setting (to the appSettings section). Figure: The web.config for TFS is stored in the application folder <appsettings> ... <add value="D:\" key="dataDirectory" /> ... </appsettings> Figure: Adding this to the web.config will trigger a restart of the app pool Figure: Your web.config should look something like this The app pool will automatically recycle and Team Web Access will start using the new location.  If you then download a file (not via a proxy) a folder with a GUID should be created immediately in the folder from #1.  If the folder doesn’t appear, then you probably don’t have permissions set up properly.

The following are the my technology picks for .Net stack Windows Azure Windows Azure will be one of the hottest technologies of 2011. Adoption of Cloud and Windows Azure will get big attention on next year. The Windows Azure platform is a flexible cloud–computing platform that lets you focus on solving business problems and addressing customer needs. No need to invest upfront on expensive infrastructure. Pay only for what you use, scale up when you need capacity and pull it back when you don’t. We handle all the patches and maintenance — all in a secure environment with over 99.9% uptime. Silverlight 5 Silverlight is becoming a common technology for variety of development platforms. You can develop Silverlight applications for web, desktop and windows phone. The new Silverlight 5 beta will be available during the starting quarter of the next year with new capabilities and lot of new features. Silverlight 5 will be powerful development platform for both web-based business apps and rich media solutions. We can expect final version of Silverlight 5 on end of 2011. ASP.NET developers will widely move to the ASP.NET MVC Framework from their WebForms development. The new Razor view engine is great and it will increase the adoption of ASP.NET MVC 3. Razor the will improve the productivity when working with ASP.NET MVC 3 Views. You can build great web applications using ASP.NET MVC 3 and jQuery with better maintainability, generation of clean HTML and even better performance. In my opinion, the best technology stack for web development is ASP.NET MVC 3 and Entity Framework 4 Code First as ORM. RavenDB NoSQL and Document databases will get more attention on the coming year and RavenDB will be the most notable document database in the .NET stack.   Hi Gods, We have windows server 2003 with isa 2004. Our clients uses internet with proxy. We have two isa rule: order name action protocolls from/listener to condition 1. trafic ALLOW all outbound all networks all networks all users 2. FTP ALLOW FTP Server EXTERNAL/INTERNAL/Local host 10.1.1.1 So we have to "bann" a few webpage (like facebook, youtube...etc...), so we make a new rule 0. banned DENY HTTP internal denied pages all users In the denied pages we have the *.facebook.com domain set. After we enable this rule, the entire internet slows down. The banning rule works well, redirect to an internal site, but the other sites.... If i open a page..it normally takes 3-10 sec to load, but after this rule this time is: 2-4 minutes. In the monitor / logging menu we got a few FAILED CONNECTION ATTEMPT like: Log type: Web Proxy (Forward) Status: 304 Not Modified Rule: All local traffic Source: Internal ( 10.1.1.1:0 ) Destination: External ( 172.24.28.22:3128 ) Request: GET http://www.konyvelozona.hu/wp-content/uploads/nyugdijas-holgy-2.jpg Filter information: Req ID: 17270b72 Protocol: http User: anonymous Additional information Client agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.3072... • Getting a domain sub-directory url for a new server

  I have an web application server running tomcat and i need to publish my APIs to internet users. However I don't have a domain name for this server and I can only put the ip address of this server (e.g. 145.XXX.XXX.XXX) to point out where my API xml files are located. I have another web server running with a domain name "http://www.webserver.com" registered on the internet and I want to make use of its domain name to server my web application server API xml files location. How can I do that? using "www.webserver.com/api" or using "api.webserver.com"? which is better? Also I wonder if I want to publish a "rstp://145.XXX.XXX.XXX" web link for video streaming purpose, can I use "rstp://www.webserver.com/api" to replace it and how to do it? I always thought the url contain domain sub-directory name cannot point to another IP address, it only can point to another folder location on the webserver itself.

• Unity works on my PC but not on the Server. What did I miss?

  I have a web service using Microsoft Unity to hook the pieces together.  It all works fine on my PC but when I put it on the web server, I receive this error message: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[System.ServiceModel.ExceptionDetail]: The value of the property 'type' cannot be parsed. The error is: Method 'GetClaimsForUser' in type 'WebService.Implementation.ClaimsRetriever' from assembly 'WebService.Implementation, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=62cac0f1a908971a' does not have an implementation. Any ideas on what I have not told Unity to do?  Or maybe what I told Unity to do incorrectly?
