• CSS-Specifity and CSS Inheritance (concrete question)?

  Hello, i would by thankful for an official link (and section) of the specification for CSS, that explains if: .one two h1 {color:green;font-family:arial;} /*case 1 */ .one two h1 {color:blue;} /*case 2*/ will result in (when evaluated by the browser) .one two h1 {color:blue;font-family:arial;} /*case 3*/ or will it be: .one two h1 {color:blue;} /*case 4*/ ==I have read a lot about inheritance, specifity, cascading etc but I still have not found for the given example which rules apply here. In regard to specifity both elements are equal in specifity the case2 will be the most specify one (as it is equal specific but the last one). But does specifity always apply to the whole selector with ALL properties defined. Or only the the properties that are are in "competition" (and declared in both). thanks!!!!

• How can I make the modal popup scroll its contents with the page?

  I've got a modal popup and when it loads contents that are taller than the browser height I am unable to scroll down to view the rest of the information. Instead the background can scroll but the popup won't. Instead I'd like to have the popup stay put and when the user scrolls up or down it leave the popup in place and let them scroll to the bottom of the contents. If you make a super long post on Facebook the popup works correctly and I'd like to know how I can get this same effect with this control.

• Is there a way of executing embedded ruby in a javascript file in my /public/javascripts directory?

  I have a form with an ever-growing amount of associated javascript. At present this javascript lives in my form view which is fine, but it's getting larger and starting to overwhelm the form making it difficult to work on the form. I want to put this in a separate file in my /public/javascripts directory but a lot of the javascript is generated by embedded ruby. This embedded ruby is ignored and passed through to the browser if I just put the code here. What is the best way (if any) of having this embedded ruby executed and the javascript being generated in the same way as if it were in my view?

• Any significance to Google's "expires" date being Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT?

  I was looking at the response headers for my GMail account and noticed that the date Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT shows up as the value for "Expires" over and over again. I suppose this is just an easy constant to make sure the browser understands this is past its freshness date. But is there any significance to that particular date? One might as easily have used the same date in 2000, or 1970, or whatever. It's not quirky enough to be someone's birthday or date of college graduation or anything personal like that. Maybe it's just arbitrary, but I was wondering if someone has a good explanation why that particular date was chosen.

• Will client side performance improve if images/scripts/styles on different subdomains?

  Hi, I have a domain specifically for static content, so cookies don't travel along with requests to images/scripts/css. Now, I think I've read somewhere that most browsers only open one download thread for each domain/subdomain, so different static content can't be downloaded in parallel if on the same domain. Will it make difference for browsers if i place scripts in script.mycdn.com, styles in css.mycdn.com and images in images.mycdn.com? Will it allow to let browser download images at the same time as scripts and styles? mycdn.com is of course a made up name :) Thanks! Andrey

• is there any light weight javascript date picker

  I am using JQuery Date picker, but it is too much heavy, the minified version of ui.datepicker.min.js is of 44 KB. the images of datepicker have their own weigh. the jquery framework is of 59 KB. and total images on page are of around 80 KB the total html of page is around 70 KB and the css file size is around 72 KB. and much more, and all the things go upto 600 KB. which is 0.6 MB. do you think user will wait for 600 KB to be downloaded in the browser? it may take upto 8 - 10 secs. and I dont think that user will wait for such long time. I want to keep my website light weight. is there any light weight javascript date picker.

  So I'm using a basic formmail script. Within the script I'm using a redirect variable. The value of the redirect is something like,"http://www.mysite.com/NewOLS_GCUK_EN/bling.aspx?BC=GCUK&IBC=CSEE&SIBC=CSEE" When the redirect action happens however, the url appears in the browser as: http://www.mysite.com/NewOLS_GCUK_EN/bling.aspx?BC=GCUK&amp;IBC=CSEE&amp;SIBC=CSEE you can see the &'s are replaced with "& a m p ;" is there any way to fix this? • How to determine direction of navigation from IE WebBrowser (IHtmlWindow2 or Javascript)

  I'm uisng the WPF Web Browser control and when it fires the Navigating event, the event args always contain NavigationMode.New. It should be set to NavigationMode.Back if the user chooses to 'Go Back' from the web control. So its off to the COM ActiveX control underneath to determine the direction of navigation. I've been looking at IHtmlWindow2 and IHtmlDocument2 and IOmHistory, but don't see anything that happens on navigation to tell me if the navigation is caused by going back, forward, a new address, or a refresh. Since IHtmlWindow and Javascript have the same DOM, maybe someone knows how from Javascript. I've also been looking at the IWebBrowser2 interface, but can't find anything there either. Is there an event or property I need to inspect?

  Hi, I am storing images in SQL Server 2000 database (BLOB type). There is a web page in my ASP.NET application which need to show a lot images to the end user and i want to handle browser's requests for images through a IHttpAsyncHandler. I found a similer post on codeproject "Asynchronous HTTP Handler for Asynchronous BLOB DataReader." But for some reasons, page get freeze upon completion of "BeginProcessRequest" method and "EndProcessRequest" method never get call. Can anyone look at this post and let me know whats wrong in that post? OR what i need to do to complete this task (BLOB Reading via IHttpAsyncHandler)?

• UIImagepickerController strange bug

  Hi, I'm doing something with UIImagePickerController. It works fine and the Picture browser does open, however, I get this message. "Failed to save the videos metadata to the filesystem. Maybe the information did not conform to a plist." What could be causing that? That is caused by this line [self presentModalViewController:self.imgPicker animated:YES]; which is activated on a button click Snippets of the code that I have below. - (void)viewDidLoad { self.imgPicker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; self.imgPicker.allowsImageEditing = YES; self.imgPicker.delegate = self; } - (IBAction)grabImage { [self presentModalViewController:self.imgPicker animated:YES]; } it's also removing images from documents directory and from resources folder. I can not understand why? does someone found the solution to this?

• Software to simplify displaying build status on a big visible monitor for team?

  I had a little bit of budget left at year end and I wanted to start a little skunk works project to display build status what everyone was working on (our team is aobut 10 folks all told). I am thinking to buy a 47" LCD HD TV and drive it from a small pc via a browser/.NET web application. I was going to build the software over the christmas break since we are closed for 2 weeks starting this Friday. I thought I would solicit advise/feedback on what other teams had done. a lot of the tools we use SVN, Mantis have RSS feeds that I was thinking to render. Is this the way to go ? • how to preload more than one but not all images of a slideshow with jquery

  I'd like to create a web based stop motion video player. Basically a slideshow that shows 2-4 images per second. Each image might be a maximum of 20KB. I don't want to preload all images in the slideshow as there might be thousands, however I need to preload more than just the next image in the show as this will not playback fast enough (because of the playback speed the browser needs to be loading more than one image at a time). I've been looking at using the jQuery Cycle Plugin (http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/) with a addSlide type function but don't know how to make it work. Would something like this might work? -Slideshow starts -image is played back -preloader will attempt to load up to the next 60 images -playback will wait for the next image in line to completely load, but will not wait for all 59 others. The playback / preloading order is important for this application.

• How to complie x64 asp.net website?

  I'm trying to compile (using Visual Studio) an ASP.Net website with the Chilkat library. The compilation fails due to this error: Could not load file or assembly 'ChilkatDotNet2, Version=9.0.8.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=eb5fc1fc52ef09bd' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. I've been told that this error occurs because of platform noncompliance. The weird thing is that although the compilation fails, the site works once accessed from a browser. My theory is that the IIS compilation uses csc.exe compiler from the Framework64 (64 bit) folder while the Visual Studio uses csc.exe compiler from the Framework (32 bit) folder. If this is acually it, how can I configure my Visual studio to run with the 64 bit compiler for ASP.Net sites? This is my current development configuration: Windows 7 (x64). Visual Studio 2008 Pro (x86 of course...). Chilkat library (x64) IIS/Asp.net (x64).

  I would like to get a list of Active Directory users along with the security groups they are members of using SQL Server 2005 linked servers. I have the query working to retrieve records but I'm not sure how to access the memberOf attribute (it is a multi-value LDAP attribute). I have this temporary to store the information: DROP TABLE #ADUSERGROUPS CREATE TABLE #ADUSERGROUPS ( sAMAccountName varchar(30), UserGroup varchar(50) ) Each group/user association should be one row.   My partner and I have a webcam site that basically runs the old-school method....Every 0.5 seconds the javascript reloads the image in the browser from the webcam. However we are wanting to upgrade to a streaming media server to get higher quality video, and possibly audio. We aren't tied to any one specific file format or server type, as of right now we are leaning towards slicehost (as scalability is important), and installing darwin streaming server or wowza. This is meant to be a live stream. Does anyone have any suggestions for hosts/server software?

Here I went through the posted answers and suggested choices and I realized that to implement pagination in an application I could still write db level queries and ensure that I could implement pagination, even if in a crude form. However I have few follow up questions now: I am trying to show SMS from a content provider. Suppose I don't want to use content provider; can I access SMS table in database through my application. Aoes android's security framework allow that? How do people generally handle pagination problems in android, related to content that they are not storing but instead are fetching through content providers. (Android's own or custom) Isn't this a bigger problem. I am surprised to find so little text online about it.

  Hello, I have an application which uses Spring 3. I have a view resolver which builds my views based on a String. So in my controllers I have methods like this one. @RequestMapping(...) public String method(){ //Some proccessing return "tiles:tileName" } I need to return a RedirectView to solve the duplicate submission due to updating the page in the browser, so I have thought to use Spring redirect: prefix. The problem is that it only redirects when I user a URL alter the prefix (not with a name a resolver can understand). I wanted to do something like this: @RequestMapping(...) public String method(){ //Some proccessing return "redirect:tiles:tileName" } Is there any way to use RedirectView with the String (the resolvable view name) I get from the every controller method? • How to organized page specific CSS link tags with spark view pages and application.spark

  I'm currently using ASP.NET MVC 2 and the spark view engine. The main master page (application.spark) contains all of the CSS link tags that need to be present for all pages (global stuff). However, I have some content pages that have page specific CSS tags and currently I'm just sticking the link tag in the body as something like: <content name="MainContent"> <!-- page specific csss --> <link rel="stylesheet" href="/Content/css/page_specific.css" /> My problem is that when the page renders, this tag ends up in the which is not where it needs to be. Is there a solution for this? One idea I had was to check the controller in the Application.spark page and write out which page specific css file is required for that particular controller, however, that solution doesn't seem to scale well and I would imagine there is some way of creating the link in the child page and having it render where it's supposed to by the browser.

• Zend_Soap_Client - Ignore HTTPS verification

  All, I want to use Zend_Soap_Client class to load WSDL from an HTTPS url. Currently, if I call like this, it gives me an error even if the WSDL is perfectly valid: $wsdlUrl = "https://abc.xyz.com/webservices/WeatherService.php?wsdl"; $soapClient = new Zend_Soap_Client($wsdlUrl); The error I receive is: SOAP-ERROR: Parsing WSDL: Couldn't load from 'https://abc.xyz.com/webservices /WeatherService.php?wsdl' : Start tag expected, '<' not found If I browse to the WSDL url in the browser, it loads up the WSDL just fine. I think Zend_Soap_Client is trying to validate the certificate and failing. Is there a way to set the SOAP option to ignore the HTTPS verification and just load the WSDL? Thanks

• Is there any specific available method in jsp/Servlet API which tell you from which page the request

  Hi, I have been working in Oracle iStore from past 4 months and i have been managing the application without any IDE (basically doing all the chores on notepad only because application has been designed poorly and no IDE can support it). Since the coding is done on simple notepad files it is very hard to find out the bugs in the application. I am facing a problem that i have not idea which jsp page redirect the control to which jsp page. For instance, there are two jsp pages A.jsp and other is B.jsp. Now the browser is currently displaying A.jsp. When the user click on submit button (available on A.jsp) the form submits and redirects the control to B.jsp. Now my problem is that i know i am coming on B.jsp but, i don't know that A.jsp is redirecting the control to B.jsp. Is there an method available in Servlet API which tells Which jsp is redirecting the control to B.jsp?
