  • When to call release on NSURLConnection delegate?

    Hi, When passing a delegate to the a NSUrlConnection object like so: [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:handler]; when should you call release on the delegate? Should it be in connectionDidFinishLoading? If so, I keep getting exec_bad_access. I'm seeing that my delegates are leaking through instruments. Thanks

    I'm modifying some code that calls enumerate on a list declared via a list comprehension e.g. self.groups = [Groups(self, idx) for idx in range(n_groups)] then later: for idx, group in enumerate(self.groups): # do some stuff but when I change the enumerate call to start at the 2nd list element via the start parameter e.g. for idx, group in enumerate(self.groups[1]): I get an exception: exceptions.TypeError: 'Group' object is not iterable Could someone explain why this is?

    While perusing an application that I'm documenting, I've run across some examples of bang notation in accessing object properties/methods, etc. and in other places they use dot notation for what seems like the same purpose. Is there a difference or preference to using one or the other? Some simple googling only reveals limited information on the subject with some people actually using it in opposite cases. Perhaps there is a coding standards section from MS somewhere that indicates the method of madness?

    I was wondering what language to use when talking about a function that takes in a specific object, acts on it and returns something else. Clearly they're functions, but I was wondering if there's a more specific term. A couple examples of Python built-in functions that fit this spec are: 'len', 'dir', 'vars' I thought it was 'predicate', but apparently that's specific to functions that return a boolean value.

  • JVM throws OutOfMemory during gc though there are plenty memory left...

    I have my java application configured to use 5G memory. I got an OutOfMemory out of blue. I inspected the gc log and found plenty of memory left: young generation occupies 4% allocated space, tenure generation occupancy is 5% and perm generation is 43%. I am puzzled why JVM throws an OutOfMemory at the gc time. Does anyone know why this is happening? Your help is greatly appreciated. I don’t create the whole tree at the same time. I create 2 levels, level 1 and level 2. My goal is to attach custom events on the panels which represent tree nodes. When users click the panels, it dispatches custom events and try to generate the next level. In the above code, when we use using with SqlDataReader, will it close the datareader before disposing it? in other other words, if i use using statement do i need to close the datareader manually?

I know of PDO/ADO, but they seem to only provide abstraction of differences between database vendors not an actual mapping between the domain model and the relational model. What is the correct implementation: the factory receives an Enum (and uses switch inside the Create function) and D is responsible to convert the string to Enum. the factory receives a string and checks for a match to a set of valid strings (using ifs') other implementation i didn't think of.
