• Android Keep Activity from Dieing

  The main Activity I use in my Android application uses a fair amount of memory, meaning that on a less powerful phone, it is susceptible to being killed off when not at the front. Normally this is fine, but it also happens when I am still inside my application, but have a different activity at the top of the stack (such as a preference activity). Obviously it's a problem if my application is killed while the user is still running it. Is there any way to disable the OS's ability to kill off the application for low memory problems? Thanks.

• Android OutOfMemoryError - Loading JSON File

  The app I am working on needs to read a JSON file that may be anywhere from 1.5 to 3 MB in size. It seems to have no problem opening the file and converting the data to a string, but when it attempts to convert the string to a JSONArray, OutOfMemoryErrors are thrown. The exceptions look something like this: E/dalvikvm-heap( 5307): Out of memory on a 280-byte allocation. W/dalvikvm( 5307): Exception thrown (Ljava/lang/OutOfMemoryError;) while throwing internal exception (Ljava/lang/OutOfMemoryError;) One strange thing about this is that the crash only occurs every 2nd or 3rd time the app is run, leaving me to believe that the memory consumed by the app is not being garbage collected each time the app closes. Any insight into how I might get around this issue would be greatly appreciated. I am open to the idea of loading the file in chunks, but I'm not quite sure what the best approach is for such a task.   I'm using Executors.newScheduledThreadPool() to create a ScheduledExecutorService, specifying the number of threads like so: int corePoolSize = 42; ScheduledExecutorService foo = Executors.newScheduledThreadPool(corePoolSize); According to the JavaDocs, the corePoolSize argument sets the number of threads to keep in the pool, even if they are idle. Does this mean that this ExecutorService implementation may create more than corePoolSize threads as needed, similar to a cached thread pool?

  Respected sir/madam, I want to add multiple jpanels to jpanel.So i added a root panel to jscrollpane.and then added all individual jpanels to this root panel.I made jscrollpane's scrolling policy as needed.i.e HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED,VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED. But the problem is all individual panels are not shown inside root panel. Code: JScrollPane scPanel=new JScrollPane(); JPanel rootPanel=new JPanel(); rootPanel.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); JPanel indPanel = new JPanel(); rootPanel.add(indPanel); JPanel indPanel2 = new JPanel(); rootPanel.add(indPanel2); //.....like this added indPanals to rootPanel. scPanel.setViewPortView(rootPanel); //scPanel.setHorizontalScrollPolicy(HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED); And one more thing is, as i scroll the scrollbar the panels are going out of jscrollpane area. • Hibernate: How do I link a subclass to its superclass?

  Hey there! I'm having a little problem setting up my webshop project. Thing is, I have a User() superclass and two subclasses, PrivateUser and BusinessUser. Now, I'm not quite sure how to get my head around storing this relationship via hibernate. For the purpose of this question, the User() class contains only one field: String address; the PrivateUser contains: String firstName; and the BusinessUser contains: String CompanyName; Each field has its getter and setter. As is right now, I would only store and be able to get firstName and companyName. When I fetch a user from my DB using Hibernate I would get a PrivateUser/BusinessUser with a null address. Bottom line is, could someone point me towards a useful tutorial or better yet show a similar example code? Thanks!

• Get children count via HQL

  Hi, I have a one-to-many mapping between a parent entity and child entities. Now I need to find the number of children associated with each parent for a list of parents. I am trying to do this with HQL but I am not sure how I can get the list of parents in there. Also, I don't know how I can return the entity itself and not just its ID. My current HQL query is: select new map(parent.id as parentId, count(*) as childCount) from Parent parent left join parent.children children group by parent.id but this only returns the ID and does not filter on specific parents. EDIT Based on Pascal's answer I have modified the query to select new map(parent as parent, count(elements(parent.children)) as childCount) from Parent parent group by parent That does work, but is prohibitively slow: 30 seconds instead of 400 ms on the same database.

  Hi, I have a small contest problem in which is given a set of points, in 2D, that form a triangle. This triangle may be subject to an arbitrary rotation, may be subject to an arbitrary translation (both in the 2D plane) and may be subject to a reflection on a mirror, but its dimensions were kept unchanged. Then, they give me a set of points in the plane, and I have to find 3 points that form my triangle after one or more of those geometric operations. Example: 5 15 8 5 20 10 6 5 17 5 20 20 5 10 5 15 20 15 10 I bet that have to apply some known algorithm, but I don't know which. The most common are: convex hull, sweep plane, triangulation, etc. Can someone give a tip? I don't need the code, only a push, please!

  I currently have the following objects persisting successfully: Person first name, etc. Exams title, date, etc. I'd like to now create a third table Exam results. • Jasper exported to Excel ignoring background color?

  Have you ever had alternating background colors in a Jasper report and then exported it to Excel? The Excel export seems to ignore the alternating color. I've got a Jasper report where the rows alternating background color using the procedure referenced HERE. When I preview it using the viewer or export to PDF it works -- but not when I export to Excel. I've tried using JRXlsExporter and JExcelApiExporter both to no avail. I think it might be a side-effect of how you have to make alternating row colors in Jasper, which I despise to begin with, but have found no other way. Thanks in advance!

  A html page has paging links, 1 set at the top of the page and another on the bottom of the page. Using HtmlUnit, I am currently getting the HtmlAnchor on the page using getByAnchorText("1"); There is a problem in some of the links on the top, so I want to reference the bottom links using XPath. nextPageAnchor = (HtmlAnchor) page.getByXPath(""); How can I reference the 2nd link on the page, with using xpath? I need to reference the link using the AnchorText, so a link like: <a href="....">33</a> The href has random text, and is a javascript function so I have no idea what it will be. Is this possible with xpath?

  Hi, we have a system where we collect data every second on user activity on multiple web sites. we dump that data into a database X (say MS SQL Server). we now need to fetch data from this single table from daatbase X and insert into database Y (say mySql). we want to fetch time based data from database X through multiple threads so that we fetch as fast as we can. Once fetched and stored in database Y, we will delete data from database X. Are there any best practices on this sort of design? any specific things to take care on table design like sharing or something? Are there any other things that we need to take care to make sure we fetch it as fast as we can from threads running on multiple machines? Thanks in advance! Ravi

• Configure WebLogic MDB to listen to Foreing AMQ Server

  I'm trying to create an MDB(EJB 3.0) on WebLogic 10.3.5. to listen to a Queue in an external AMQ server. but after much work and combination of tutorials i get the followin error when deployin on WwebLogic. [EJB:015027]The Message-Driven EJB is transactional but JMS connection factory referenced by the JNDI name: ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory is not a JMS XA connection factory. Here is a brief of the work i have done: I have added the corresponding libraries to my WLS classpath (following thos tuturial http://amadei.com.br/blog/index.php/connecting-weblogic-and-activemq) and I have created the corresponding JMS Modules as indicated in the tutorial. As connection factory I have used ActiveMQConnectionFactory initially and ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory later, I also ignome the jms. notation an just put plain names as testQueue. Then create a simple MDB whit the following structure. I explicitly defined "connectionFactoryJndiName" property because otherwise it assumes a WebLogic connection factory which is not found an then raises an error. @MessageDriven( activationConfig = { @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destinationType", propertyValue = "javax.jms.Queue"), @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destination", propertyValue = "testQueue"), @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "connectionFactoryJndiName", propertyValue = "ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory") }, mappedName = "testQueue") public class ROMELReceiver implements MessageListener { /** * Default constructor. */ public ROMELReceiver() { // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub } /** * @see MessageListener#onMessage(Message) */ public void onMessage(Message message) { System.out.println("Message received"); } } At this point I'm stuck with the error mentioned above.
