• Question marks in Java generics.

  I tried to make sure this wasn't a duplicate post, sorry if I was blind. This is a small snippet of code taken from some of the examples that accompany the Stanford Parser. I've been developing in Java for about 4 years, but have never had a very strong understanding of what this style of code is supposed to indicate. List<? extends HasWord> wordList = toke.tokenize(); I'm not worried about the details of the code. What I'm confusing about is what exactly the generic expression is supposed to convey, in English. Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!

  I have a list box, filled with countries. I am using lstRegion.selectedValue but it is giving me only one value. I tried a different soultion, run a loop to the count of items in the lstRegion and find if the particular item has been selected or not. But this solution does'nt look good for me. Can any one suggest me how to get all selectedvalues in the list box

  How can I make code completion case-sensitive? How can I make Ctrl-k kill the content of the line and the new line character? How can I make backspace always delete only one character, no matter what it is? Right now, it deletes spaces in chunks equal to my indent level. • HTML5 Search Input: No Background Image in Chrome?

  I have been pulling my hair out trying to get Chrome to style my search input with a background image. Firefox has no problem, but I fear it's because it treats the input as a regular text input. Is this simply not possible? Try this as a demo: <input type="search" /> ?input[type="search"] { background: transparent url(http://google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/srpr/logo1w.png) no-repeat 0 0; }?????? If it worked correctly, it should put Google's logo (or part of it) as the background image for the "Search" input. But as you will see when you look at this in Chrome, it DOES NOT WORK. Any ideas, or is this just one of HTML5's quirks? :\

  I have a div that is holding a google chart: <div id="chart_div" style="width: 600px; height: 300px;"></div> It has one CSS property: display: none. On the click of a button, I would like to have the chart be displayed using jQuery hide() and show(). It's working, however, the chart's dimensions are set to something different than I have specified and refuse to change to what I have specified. Here is my jquery code: $(document).ready(function(){ var chart = $('#chart_div'); $('#submit').click(function(){ chart.show('slow'); }); }); Let me know if theres any more code you would like to see. By the way, the chart div is not being contained in anything else so that isn't the problem.

• int i vs int index etc. Which one is better?

  Coming from a C background I've always used int i for generic loop variables. Of course in big nested loops or other complex things I may use a descriptive name but which one had you rather see? int i; for(i=0;i<Controls.Count;i++){ DoStuff(Controls[i]); } or int index; for(index=0;index<Controls.Count;index++){ DoStuff(Controls[index]); } In the current project I am working on there are both of these styles and index being replaced by ndx. Which one is better? Is the i variable too generic? Also what about the other C style names? i, j, k Should all of these be replaced by actual descriptive variables?

Mainly because while i like learning theory, i learn it best via practice, while for example pc-asm has about 20-30 pages of theroy before anything practical.   Using struts2 with jsp with standard struts tag libraries. I'm trying to dynamically hide a DIV on page load, but still send it to the browser. This is so I can show it later via javascript. The request objects one and two are not easily referenced via a jsp:usebean tag. • <a> with an inner <span> not triggering :active state in IE 8

  I want to style the :active state of a button that is represented by an <a> tag. The <a> tag has an inner <span> (beacuse I want to add an icon to this button). I notice the :active state is triggered properly in everything but Internet Explorer 8. In IE 8, it appears that the area around the <span> (the <a>’s padding) triggers the :active state, but when clicking directly on the text within the <span>, the :active state is not triggered.   Please see this page for reference: test page I am designing a site that has a sidebar that contains an accordion style vertical nav bar. The sidebar which contains this accordion is absolutely positioned, relative to the container that holds it. I did this so the sidebar would stay sticky to the top, bottom, and side. When you click the products button, the accordion expands well past the container, overflowing into the footer. If I floated the sidebar to the left, it would grow to accommodate the entire sidebar, but it wouldn't be sticky to the bottom of the container by default. I need a solution that allows the sidebar to be absolutely positioned, and allow growth if the accordion expands. Any Ideas? Jquery solution perhaps?

  I need to dynamically load a CSS stylesheet into a page that's on a different domain. How can I get the complete URL of the JS file to use in the href attribute of the stylesheet? For instance, here is the structure: http://bla.com/js/script.js http://bla.com/css/style.css I want to dynamically load the stylesheet into a page http://boo.net/index.html. The problem is, I don't know the bla.com bit in advance, just the fact that the stylesheet is in ../css/ relative to the JS file. The script is, of course, included on index.html. jQuery's fine too.

• Display indented XML code within a HTML page

  I have a programmatically created HTML document on which I would like to show some XML-code, fully formatted with line breaks and tabulators. That is, it should look like if you drag an xml file without a xml-stylesheet directly onto your browser (most browsers do some kind of xml-rendering with some default style sheet). Now, I can of course escape all the characters (like <>, tab and newline) and do the indenting myself (using css styles, for example), but I was wondering whether I couldn't re-use some 'default' xml-stylesheet from somewhere. Preferrably also one that has some javascript node-folding, too. Do you know such a stylesheet/xslt? Or would you suggest another way to achieve this? I'm using C#. PS: I tried to use the XmlNotepad.DefaultSS.xslt from Microsoft's XmlNotepad, but I couldn't really get that working. :T

  I am new at selenium testing and am writing a bunch of tests for a webpage that relies heavily on javascript user interaction. At first I wrote a lot of assertions of the style If I press button A" then assert number of visible rows = x, assert checkboxes checked are such assert title = bar .... [20 more] and so on. Then I switched to checksumming the HTML using MD5: If I press button A" then assert md5(html) = 8548bccac94e35d9836f1fec0da8115c. And it made my life a whole lot easier... But is this a bad practice in any way?
