• Paging through records (json data) using jQuery...

  I have a JSON result that contains numerous records. I'd like to show the first five records in one page and create pager links which have to move to that page with five record so on. I don't want the page to refresh which is why I'm hoping for a combination of JavaScript and jQuery. • Best programming aids for a quadriplegic programmer

  Before you jump to conclusions, yes, this is programming related. It covers a situation that comes under the heading of, "There, but for the grace of God, go you or I." This is brand new territory for me so I'm asking for some serious help here. A young man, Honza Ripa, in a nearby town did the classic Dumb Thing two weeks after graduating from High School -- he dove into shallow water in the Russian River and had a C-4/C-5 break, sometimes called a Swimming Pool break. In a matter of seconds he went from an exceptional golfer and wrestler to a quadriplegic. (Read the story ... all of us should have been so lucky as to have a girlfriend like Brianna.) That was 10 months ago and he has regained only tiny amounts of control of his right index finger and a couple of other hand/foot motions, none of them fine-grained. His total control of his computer (currently running Win7, but we can change that as needed) is via voice command. Honza's not dumb. He had a 3.7 GPA with AP math and physics. The Problems: Since all of his input is via voice command, he is concerned that the predominance of special characters in programming will require vast amount of verbose commands. Does anyone know of any well done voice input system specifically designed for programmers? I'm thinking about something that might be modal--e.g. you say "Python input" and it goes into a macro mode for doing class definitions, etc. Given all of the RSI in programmer-land there's got to be something out there. What OS(es) does it run on? I am planning on teaching him Python, which is my preferred language for programming and teaching. Are there any applications / whatevers that are written in Python and would be a particularly good match for engaging him mentally while supporting his disability? One of his expressed interests is in stock investing, but that not might be a good starting point for a brand-new programmer. There are a lot of environments (Flash, JavaScript, etc) that are not particularly friendly to people with accessibility challenges. I vaguely remember (but cannot find) a research project that basically created an overlay system on top of a screen environment and then allowed macro command construction on top of the screen image. If we can get/train this system, we may be able to remove many hurdles to using the net. I am particularly interested in finding open source Python-based robotics and robotic prostheses projects so that he can simultaneously learn advanced programming concepts while learning to solve some of his own immediate problems. I've done a ton of googling on this, but I know there things I'm missing. I'm asking the SO community to step up to the plate here. I know this group has the answers, so let me hear them! Overwhelm me with the opportunities that any of us might have/need to still program after such a life-changing event.

• C# Silverlight - Delay Child Window Load?!

  The Scenario Currently I have a C# Silverlight Application That uses the domainservice class and the ADO.Net Entity Framework to communicate with my database. I want to load a child window upon clicking a button with some data that I retrieve from a server-side query to the database. The Process The first part of this process involves two load operations to load separate data from 2 tables. The next part of the process involves combining those lists of data to display in a listbox. The Problem The problem with this is that the first two asynchronous load operations haven't returned the data by the time the section of code to combine these lists of data is reached, thus result in a null value exception..... • Voice Recognition Connection problem

  I,m trying to work through and test a Voice Recognition example based on the VoiceRecognition.java example at http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/app/VoiceRecognition.html but when click on the button to create the activity, I get a dialog that says Connection problem. My Manifest file is using the Internet Permission, and I understand it passes the to the Google Servers. Do I need to do anything else to use this. Code below UPDATE: Ok, I was able to replace my emulator image with one from HTC that appears to come with Google Voice Search, however now when I run from the emulator, i'm getting an Audio Problem message with Speak Again or Cancel buttons. It appears to make it back to the onActivityResult(), but the resultCode is 0. • OpenGL ES 2.0 FBO creation goes wrong with unknown error

  Hey guys, I've been struggling with this for a while now, and this code crashes with, to me, unknown reasons. I'm creating an FBO, binding a texture, and then the very first glDrawArrays() crashes with a "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" on my iPhone Simulator. I've been googling for about whole day and found none open source library with scaling algoriths used in loop. Is there such library from wich i could port some methods? I found http://www.codeproject.com/KB/GDI-plus/imgresizoutperfgdiplus.aspx but I really don't understand His approach to the problem, and porting it will be a pain in the ... Wikipedia tells a matematic approach. So my question is: Where can I find easy-to-port graphic open source library wich includes simple scaling algorithms? Of course if such library even exists :)

But I'm new to the world of OS X software installation, so doubts remain. So, the question: Is PackageMaker with a preinstall script broken on OS X 10.6? Or is there some requirement regarding preinstall scripts that I do not understand?

• How can I use a custom TabItem control when databinding a TabControl in WPF?

  I have a custom control that is derived from TabItem, and I want to databind that custom TabItem to a stock TabControl. I would rather avoid creating a new TabControl just for this rare case. This is what I have and I'm not having any luck getting the correct control to be loaded.   I have a TTLauncherView with some TTLauncherItems. These show badges, representing messages from the network. I set the badges in viewWillAppear:, so if I switch to another view and then return, the correct badges are shown. But I want to update the badges as soon a message comes in. Calling setNeedsDisplay on TTLauncherView doesn't help? • Squid proxy not serving modified html content

  I'm trying to use squid to modify the page content of web page requests. I followed the upside-down-ternet tutorial which showed instructions for how to flip images on pages. I need to change the actual html of the page. I've been trying to do the same thing as in the tutorial, but instead of editing the image I'm trying to edit the html page. Below is a php script I'm using to try to do it. All jpg images get flipped, but the content on the page does not get edited. • OCR an RSA key fob (security token)

  I put together a quick WinForm/embedded IE browser control which logs into our company's bank website each morning and scrapes/exports the desired deposit information (the bank is a smallish regional bank). Since we have a few dozen "pseudoaccounts" that draw from the same master account, this actually takes 10-15 minutes to retrieve. Anyway, the only problem is that our business bank account reuires an RSA security token (http://www.rsa.com/node.aspx?id=1156)--if you are not familiar, it is a small device which shows a random 6 digit number every 15(?) seconds, so I have to prompt for this value before starting. This is on top of the website's login based security model, so even if you create a read-only account that can't do anything, you still have to put the RSA number in. We have 5 of these tokens for different people in the company. From our perspective this is nusiance security. I was joking about using a web camera to OCR the digits from the key fob so they didn't have to type it in -- mainly so that the scraping/export would be done before anyone arrives in the morning. Well, they asked if I could really do it. So now I ask you, how hard (how many hours) do you think it would take to OCR these digits reliably from a JPEG image produced by the camera? I already know I can get the JPEG easily. I think you get 3 tries to log in, so it really needs to hit a 99% accuracy rate. I could work on this on my off time, but they don't want me to put more than a few hours into it, so I want to leverage as much existing code as possible. This is a 7-segment display (like an alarm clock) so it's not exactly text that an OCR package would be used to seeing. Also--there is a countdown timer on the side of the display; typically when it is down to 1 bar, you wait until the next number appears and it starts over at 5 bars (like signal strength on your cell phone). So this would need to be OCRd as well but it is not text. Anyway the more I think about it as I type this, the less convinced I am that I can truly get this right, so maybe I should just work on it in my spare time?

• IE6 and fieldset background color?

  Hey, I'm having some difficulty with CSS and IE6 compatibility. URL: http://bit.ly/dlX7cS Problem #1: I put a background image on the fieldset around Canada and United States. In IE6 and IE7, the background bleeds above the border-top of the fieldset. So, I found a fix. It is applied only to IE browsers, and moves the legend up a few pixels, aligning the background correctly. <!-- Fix: IE6/IE7, Legends --> <!--[if lte IE 7]> <style type="text/css"> fieldset { position: relative; } fieldset legend { position: absolute; top: -0.5em; left: 0; } </style> <![endif]--> This fixes IE7. (I am testing with a multi-IE program, and it keeps crashing. My copy might not be accurate). If it's not there, any suggestions on how to fix it? Also, any suggestion on where I can download working copy of IE6? Problem #2: I have a Google Map embedded using iframe. The width of that iframe is 515px. In Firefox, Chrome, IE7 -- that is the correct alignment. But in IE6, it gets <br/> underneath the Just Energy paragraph beside it. It doesn't fit. I have to change width to 513px for it to fit. Uhm, anyone know where those 2px of difference happen? My code works well for all browsers, except IE8 (and maybe earlier versions). a.submit-button:active and a.submit-button:active span are simply blocked by "hover" and never work. • Vector math, finding coördinates on a planar between 2 vectors

  I am trying to generate a 3d tube along a spline. I have the coördinates of the spline (x1,y1,z1 - x2,y2,z2 - etc) which you can see in the illustration in yellow. At those points I need to generate circles, whose vertices are to be connected at a later stadium. The circles need to be perpendicular to the 'corners' of two line segments of the spline to form a correct tube. Note that the segments are kept low for illustration purpose. [apparently I'm not allowed to post images so please view the image at this link] http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/6863/18720019.jpg I am as far as being able to calculate the vertices of each ring at each point of the spline, but they are all on the same planar ie same angled. I need them to be rotated according to their 'legs' (which A & B are to C for instance). I've been thinking this over and thought of the following: two line segments can be seen as 2 vectors (in illustration A & B) the corner (in illustraton C) is where a ring of vertices need to be calculated I need to find the planar on which all of the vertices will reside I then can use this planar (=vector?) to calculate new vectors from the center point, which is C and find their x,y,z using radius * sin and cos However, I'm really confused on the math part of this. I read about the dot product but that returns a scalar which I don't know how to apply in this case. Can someone point me into the right direction? [edit] To give a bit more info on the situation: I need to construct a buffer of floats, which -in groups of 3- describe vertex positions and will be connected by OpenGL ES, given another buffer with indices to form polygons. To give shape to the tube, I first created an array of floats, which -in groups of 3- describe control points in 3d space. Then along with a variable for segment density, I pass these control points to a function that uses these control points to create a CatmullRom spline and returns this in the form of another array of floats which -again in groups of 3- describe vertices of the catmull rom spline. On each of these vertices, I want to create a ring of vertices which also can differ in density (amount of smoothness / vertices per ring). All former vertices (control points and those that describe the catmull rom spline) are discarded. Only the vertices that form the tube rings will be passed to OpenGL, which in turn will connect those to form the final tube. I am as far as being able to create the catmullrom spline, and create rings at the position of its vertices, however, they are all on a planars that are in the same angle, instead of following the splines path.
