  • New drivers, now switchable graphics won't work

    I have an ASUS notebook with dual AMD/ATI graphic cards. Before I've been able to switch individual programs in the Vision Control Center from high performance to energy saving and the other way around. But today I updated the drivers using the AMD Mobility to version 12.10, and now every time I try to configure switchable graphics it either shuts down or does not come up at all. I have a new menu item called Global Switchable Graphics settings though. Any thoughts on this?

  • What causes "A disk read error occurred, Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart"?

    I have a virtual machine containing Windows XP SP3. When I resized the VHD file (and the embedded partition), and tried booting, I got: A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart Some notes: FixBoot and FixMBR don't help. ChkDsk doesn't help. The partition is indeed active. The partition starts at sector 63 (it also did so before the problem) of cylinder 1, head 1, and is marked as type 0x07 (NTFS) My host OS reads the VHD and the partition completely fine I'm interested in knowing the cause rather than the fix. So "re-format the disk", "reinstall Windows", etc. aren't valid solutions. It's a virtual machine after all... I have nothing to lose, so I don't care about fixing it. I just want to know what's causing this problem, in case I run into it again on a physical machine (which I have done before). I am looking for one that does a very good job of maintaining the layout and text styles of the original document.   • Prevent SQL injection from form-generated SQL - NO PreparedStmts

    Hi all, I have a search table where user will be able to filter results with a filter of the type: Field [Name], Value [John], Remove Rule Field [Surname], Value [Blake], Remove Rule Field [Has Children], Value [Yes], Remove Rule Add Rule So the user will be able to set an arbitrary set of filters, which will result essentially in a completely dynamic WHERE clause. In the future I will also have to implement more complicated logical expressions, like Where (name=John OR name=Nick) AND (surname=Blake OR surname=Bourne), Of all 10 fields the user may or may not filter by, I don't know how many and which filters the user will set. So, I cannot use a prepared statement (which assumes that at least we know the fields in the WHERE clause). This is why prepared statements are unfortunately out of the question, I have to do it with plain old, generated SQL. What measures can I take to protect the application from SQL Injection (REGEX-wise or any other way)?

  • INtegral card readers have drivers installed but do not show on my computer

    I recenlty fixed a computer powerbutton and accidentally unplugged a sd card reader and did not know where was at (didnt knw if it was usb or firewire/ after i found out, i guess i installed it on a different usb so reinstalled the drivers..Drivers show installed successfully, ready to use. but THey do not show up on my computer as removable disks (E:) etc.a s they should I have windows 7 home premium 64 bits. the computer is a Acer Aspire M1201-be50001a. I tried following the installation and they show up while installing and then hide again. Any help is appreciated Thanks in advance.

    Apache has this built in since 1996 which is 17 years ago... for Microsoft's IIS Web server which is available on Windows 7, is there a way to make it be able to sort the file listing by file modification dates? For example, show the file listing with the label "Date", "Filename", and clicking it will sort the files by that attribute.     In vim I've remapped > and < when in visual mode to >gv and <gv respectively, like so: vnoremap > >gv vnoremap < <gv Since my target for this question are folks experienced with emacs and not vim, what > and < do is indent/dedent visually selected text. What gv does is reselect the previously selected text. These maps cause > and < to indent/dedent and then reselect the previously selected text. I'm trying out emacs with evil-mode and I'd like to do the same, but I'm having some difficulty figuring out how, exactly, to accomplish the automatic reselection. It looks like I need to somehow call evil-shift-right and evil-visual-restore sequentially, but I don't know how to create a map that will do both, so I tried creating my own function which would call both sequentially and map that instead, but it didn't work, possibly due to the fact that both of them are defined, not as functions with defun but instead as operators with evil-define-operator. I tried creating my own operators: (evil-define-operator shift-left-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-left beg end) (evil-visual-restore)) (evil-define-operator shift-right-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-right beg end) (evil-visual-restore)) but that doesn't restore visual as expected. A stab in the dark gave me this: (evil-define-operator shift-left-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-left beg end) ('evil-visual-restore)) (evil-define-operator shift-right-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-right beg end) ('evil-visual-restore)) but that selects one additional line whenever it is supposed to reselect.     Greetings all, Right now I have a fairly standard video card with 2 DVI ports, one powering my single monitor and another powering my HDTV (with a DVI-to-HDMI cable), which are in separate rooms. I never need to have my monitor and TV active at the same time. I'm looking into a possible computer upgrade. I'd like to know if the following situation is possible. I want three monitors on my desk powered by a single card, which I hear these new Eyefinity cards are capable of. But, I also want my TV hooked up. At any given time, I would want either my three monitors active or my TV active, never both at once. So it seems to me it might be possible to do this all a single 3-port card with a splitter of some kind. Is this possible? What hardware would I need? Thanks!

    I have a situation where I have some input files like this: M2U0001.MPG M2U0180.MPG And I want to run a command (in a bash shell) on each similarly named file in the directory. I'd like the current file name to be given to this command as an input and a modified version of the filename to be given as an output file. Here's an example: ffmpeg -i M2U0001.MPG M2U0001_fixed.MPG I had the idea of using xargs and sed, but this is as far as I got: ls -1 *.MPG | xargs -I{} ffmpeg -i {} `echo {} | sed -r 's/[0-9]{2,}/&_fixed/'` But this results in the original filename being output in both positions. Am I totally going about this the wrong way? I found that if I echo the filename directly to the embedded chunk like this it works: echo M2U0001.MPG | sed -r 's/[0-9]{2,}/&_fixed/'

    Alright I have a Biostar TA790GX3A2+ Mobo 2x Seagate 750Gb Hard drive (with 2 different speeds) an X4 9750 A GeForce 9800GT and 2GB RAM Hardware Specs link text I want to configure my computer with partitions in various RAID arrays. The Partitions I know i want (disk letters are mostly for reference here) C: XP Boot D: XP Swap E: XP Run F: Games G: Data The Partitions I think I want (repeat caveat) H: small FAT for Win Legacy and DOS I: Linux J: Linux Swap K-?M?: Other Linux /whatever partitions N & O: Attic for D1 and D2 What I'd like to do, is have C: written on Disk 1 (D1),.. D: on D2,.. E: and F: striped on D1 & D2,.. G: mirrored or D1 & D2,.. I: on D2 (so i can just switch disc boot priority to open in Ubuntu),.. J: on D1,.. and H: somewhere low on D1 I am inexperienced with VMs, so i am unsure as to whether those run out of XP, or whether i need to reserve a primary partition for them. However, I think they would be preferable for testing new OS's to scheduling a partition for the same purpose. I'm also not married to XP, but -64 IS pretty important to me. QUestion Time 1) Ignoring the irrationality of it all, is such a configuration possible? If not, can some pseudo-approximation be achieved? 2) My RAID is software, isnt it? 3) How much should I short a 750GB HD? And should i use that space for my attics, or for my attics and something else, or for something else (.iso's perhaps?)? 4) if XP is striped on D1 & D2, will that interfere egregiously with my Swap writes on D2? If so, would striping both XP and Swap relieve (or at least mitigate) that issue? Should XP and Swap just be written normally on 2 different HDs? 5) Should I keep DL's and Drivers on E: (XP Run), F: (Games), or elsewhere? 6) Is 4GB enough for C:? 7) Is 30GB enough (or too much) for E:? 8) How much to reserve for the Linux and sub-Linux partitions? Also, where on the platter do you think i should put them? 9) Am I a fool to use FAT16 instead of FAT32 for H: because I'd rather run 95 than 98SE? If not, do you think 2GB or 4GB? 10) I cant predict what my Max Commit Charge will be, so recommendations for Pagefile size? 5GB? 12GB? 11) VMs, where do I run them? do they exacerbate anything? Would it be better to just emulate Linux, 95, and DOS? EC) What havent I considered that I really should? Notes: computer is mostly for playing games and watching media, though I wouldnt rule out the use of particularly blah-intensive anything.

  • gVIM "put" driving me mad, how do I "put" at the beginning of a line

    I'm learning gVIM on Windows, and as I slowly learn more of the keystrokes I find myself using the mouse less and less, which is great. I have a couple of questions I've yet to figure out: I do a lot of copy and paste. So I use 'v' to enter VISUAL mode, use k/j to move up/down and select the lines, then hit 'y' to yank. I then go to the line where I want to insert, and hit 'p' to put, BUT the darn thing pastes after the 1st character. I can't move any further left, so I am definitely at the start of the line, so I find the 'p'ut behaviour of pasting 1 char after my cursor position to be supremely annoying. I switch between edit and command mode an awful lot, and my poor little finger on my left hand is getting sore from being stretched out to hit the 'Esc' key (to enter command mode) every few seconds. Is there a more finger-friendly way to enter command mode?

  • Problem with Macbook air automatically not acquiring free wifi network dns or router address

    I have this problem when my macbook air sometimes does not connect to free wifi hotspots. When the problem happens and I try to run the diagnostics, it normally gets to yellow network settings tab. It seems that it for some reason does not acquire automatically the router or dns address. Sometimes after I shut it down and restart it magically connects to the wifi hotspot but it is very inconsistent. Anyone knows a fix for this problem?

    I am running Windows 7. In Internet Explorer 9, when I visit a webpage and enter a password it is automatically remembered. When I leave the site and return again at another time, the password is filled in automatically. I would like to stop this behavior. I do not not think that it is an auto fill problem. I think it may be related to an addon provided by my OEM and published by Authentic called "Truesuite Website Log On". How can I confirm that Truesuite is the culprit? How can I stop passwords from being filled in automatically.

    I am attempting to use the find command and came across an article at http://www.linux.ie/newusers/beginners-linux-guide/find.php which states The wildcard character is escaped with a slash so BASH sends a literal asterisk to the find utility as an argument instead of performing filename expansion and passing any number of files in as arguments. for the command find . -name up\*. Being new to the world of Linux I don't quite understand how the use of a backslash which is meant to escape the meta character * is interpreted and returns results as though as it is being passed to find. Does it mean if I use the -name option I have to use a backslash to pass a wildcard and if I don't use -name I don't have to use a backslash?

    I want to download and use Nvidia System Tools with ESA suport. But on the "Supported Products" tab my GTX 560 Ti isn't listed. The product was last released on April last year, but it shows support for both the GTX 570 and 580 as well as the GTX 4x family. All sister cards of the GTX 560. Has anyone successfuly ran this nvidia product with the GTX 560 Ti? Why wasn't this card included on the list of supported products?

    I have a peculiar problem in Microsoft Office 2007 (Word). When I am using single quotes, the first time I type a ' it appears as a , instead. For example, typing ''' translates to ,'' in Word, necessitating me to go back and delete the comma so that I can correctly single-quote words. Is there a solution to this? Also, the dictionary was set to German when I first started using the application, but I set it to US English after that.
