• Shell Scripting: Generating output file name in script and then writing to it

  Hello, I have a shell script where a user passes different sizes as command line arguments. For each of those sizes, I want to perform some task, then save the output of that task into a .txt file with the size in the name. How can I take the command line passed and make that part of a stringname for the output file? I save the output file in a directory specified by another command line argument. Perhaps an example will clear it up. In the foor lop, the i value represents the command line argument I need to use, but $$i doesnt work. ./runMe arg1 arg2 outputDir [size1 size2 size3...] for ((i=4; i<$#; i++ )) do ping -s $$i google.com >> $outputDir/$$iresults.txt done I need to know how to build the $outputDir/$$iresults.txt string. Also, the ping -s $$i doesnt work. Its like I need two levels of replacement. I need to replace the $[$i] inner $i with the value in the loop, like 4 for ex, making it $4. Then replace $4 with the 4th command line argument! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What is the difference causing this?

• NSClient++: external script with optional arguments

  I am trying to define an external script which would take optional arguments in NSClient++ 0.4.1 on Windows. Following the nsclient-full.ini example code I have defined mycheck=cmd /C echo C:\mydir\myscript.ps1 %ARGS% | powershell.exe -command - which simply yields the string %ARGS% passed as the only argument to myscript.ps1, no matter what I specify in my call through NRPE (using Nagios' check_nrpe if that matters). I then tried to rewrite the definition to mycheck=cmd /C echo C:\mydir\myscript.ps1 $ARG1$ $ARG2$ | powershell.exe -command - (myscript.ps1 would take up to two arguments), which does help a bit. At least, if two arguments are provided, I can fetch them via the args[] array. The trouble starts when the call has less than two arguments - in this case the literal strings $ARG2 and $ARG1$ are passed through as arguments. Handling this case in the code of myscript.ps1 makes the whole argument processing routine ugly at best. Is there a sane way of defining optional parameters to an external script which would not pass NSClient's variable names if no parameter has been specified?

• Workspace.PendEdit not checking out files

  I'm using the TFS 2010 SDK to programmatically check in edits to files into TFS 2010. The documentation on the TFS 2010 SDK is sparse at best. When I call the method workspace.pendedit() passing in an array of files I want to mark as having a pending edit, nothing is actually checked out. So when I call workspace.checkin() passing in workspace.getpendingchanges and some comments I get an exception that there must be at least one thing that has a pending change (which should be what I passed into pendedit). Any thoughts on why the app isn't marking the files as having a pending edit in the workspace?

  Hi All, I'm trying to figure out a way for this to work: NSString *searchCommand = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"cp -R /Volumes/Public/DirectoryToCopy* Desktop/"]; const char* system_call = [searchCommand UTF8String]; system(system_call); The system() method does not acknowledge the specific string I am passing in. If I try something like: system("kextstat"); No problems. Any ideas why the find string command I'm passing in is not working? All I get is "GDB: Running ....." in xCode. I should mention that if I try the same exact command in terminal it works just fine.

  hello, i have created two create actions..one to call the create view and the other to process the create view using httppost. when i call the create view, it gets published correctly , dropdowns and all. the problem is that when i fill out the create form and click on the submit button, i get an error; Object reference not set to an instance of an object. My first thoughts are that i am passing a null model to the httppost create action.. How can i check to see if i am passing in a null model to the httppost create action? thanks

  There is a default submit button for the @FileUpload.GetHtml. But I am expecting to have a submit button inside the Html begin form and use that substitution to submit the list of files with some more parameters. But when I do that the passing IEnumerable is always null in the Action method.   Given an arbitrary single argument representing a file (or directory, device, etc), how do I get the absolute path of the argument? I've seen many answers to this question involving find/ls/stat/readlink and $PWD, but none that suits my need. It looks like the closest answer is ksh's "whence" command, but I need it to work in sh/bash. Assume a file, foo.txt, is located in my home directory, /Users/matthew/foo.txt. But when I fire the function event from a Onclick Button the result is perfect but when I fire the same function event on the page load of the ReportViewer ..I do not get the result. About function , i am creating dataset, and adapter with Sqlquery from runtime passing the parameter value from a session in the query and binding the data to the labels. But as I said I want the result on the pageload event of the reportviewer.

  Hi, I have an RMI client/server set-up on two machines that works fine in a simple situation when the server doesn't require a client-side defned class. However, when I need to use a class defined on the client side I am unable to have the server unmarshall those classes. I suspect this is an issue with my java.rmi.server.codebase property that I pass in as argument to the client app. I followed Sun's RMI Tutorial trail and I think I have followed the steps exactly except that I don't specify a classpath argument when executing client and server because they execute in the directory right above the root package directory (however I tried that too with no effect). These "words" can be pretty much any character e.g. "Bart Simpson, Ex-girlfriend, dude, radical" I'm trying to use javascript, jQuery, whatever i can to replace a word based on a search string with nothing (in essence, removing the word from the list).   Recently switched from bash, I noticed that zsh will try to expand every command or argument that looks like it has wildcards in it. So the following lines won't work any more: git diff master{,^^} zsh: no matches found: master^^ scp remote:~/*.txt . zsh: no matches found: remote:~/*.txt The only way to make the above commands work is to quote the arguments, which is quite annoying.   When I open a raw socket is OS X, construct my own udp packet (headers and data), and call sendto(), I get the error "Invalid Argument". Here is a sample program "rawudp.c" from the web site http://www.tenouk.com/Module43a.html that demonstrates this problem. The program (after adding string and stdlib #includes) runs under Fedora 10 but fails with "Invalid Argument" under OS X. Can anyone suggest why this fails in OS X? I have looked and looked and looked at the sendto() call, but all the parameters look good. I'm running the code as root, etc. Is there perhaps a kernel setting that prevents even uid 0 executables from sending packets through raw sockets in OS X Snow Leopard? Thanks.

• TFS and code coverage for web application (MVC) assemblies not working

  I've got an MVC web application with associated controller tests that run under a TFS build as per normal. I can see the tests running and passing in the build log and they appear in the "Result details for Any CPU/Release" section of the build I also have a number of other assemblies with associated tests that are running in the same build. Tests are passing and the details are being shown in the results and logs just fine. I've enabled code coverage in the build script and the testrunconfig. The coverage is appearing for all assemblies EXCEPT the web application even though it looks like the tests have been run for it. Is there anything obvious that I have missed or some sort of work around that I need to do? I've searched around for a while and haven't found an answer. Has anyone got code coverage working for MVC web applications?

• Java applet - access denied to file on same web server

  I've written a simple Java applet to generate a technical image based upon some data in a CSV file. I'm passing in the CSV file as a parameter to the applet: <applet code = "assaymap.AssayMapApplet" archive = "http://localhost/applet_test/AssayMap.jar" height="600px" width="800px"> <param name="csvFile" value="http://localhost/applet_test/test.csv"> </applet> As far as I understood applet security restrictions, an applet should be able to read data from the host they're on. These applets here http://www.jalview.org/examples/applets.html are using the same approach of passing in a text data file as a parameter. So I'm not sure why my own applet isn't working. The error message I get thrown is: Error with processing the CSV data. java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission http:\localhost\applet_test\test.csv read)

• Getting a char array from a vector<int>?

  I am trying to pass a value from C++ to TCL. As I cannot pass pointers without the use of some complicated modules, I was thinking of converting a vector to a char array and then passing this as a null terminated string (which is relatively easy). I have a vector as follows: 12, 32, 42, 84 which I want to convert into something like: "12 32 42 48" The approach I am thinking of is to use an iterator to iterate through the vector and then convert each integer into its string representation and then add it into a char array (which is dynamically created initially by passing the size of the vector). Is this the right way or is there a function that already does this?
