  • Avoid Windows Explorer to load complete executable file

    On Windows Vista, when browsing to a network folder containing executables, Windows Explorer seems to load all the files completely just to be able to show the executable icon (the resource monitor indicates loads of traffic during the loading of the directory) On XP only a part of the file is loaded. Is there a way to avoid the complete loading of these files? Note that disabling my anti virus does not help.

  • How to transfer files from windows 7 pc to vista

    Tried using direct connection using Ethernet cable and using windows easy transfer, but no luck, also tried using ad-hoc, home group, and connecting through a router both wired and wireless but no luck, im getting a little frustrated as I need to transfer these files because im selling one of them this afternoon! All I need to do is transfer some documents and files. The windows 7 pc recognizes the vista pc but vista cant recognize the win 7.

    i have problem when i am trying to save web page from browser using "Save as Webpage, complete" some of CSS/Javascript/Image are not saved, thus when i reopen saved page offline webpage can't display properly. How do i solve this? How do i made webpage can be saved properly from browser ? i don't want to use MHT ext. Because what my situation here is i need to give URL for web designer to launch URL, saved webpage and modify CSS/HTML. Thanks

  • E-ink screens for desktop PC?

    Are there PC monitors which are e-ink displays? E-ink is so much easier to read documents on that I'd rather like a secondary monitor just for documents, but I can't find any monitors available currently. Perhaps just an e-reader with some kind of remote control from a PC, so that it can be put in a cradle and display a document, but it would also need to have a fairly large screen to make it practical (perhaps something like A4 (EU) or Letter (US) sized?)

  • VDR - Trouble writing to destination volume, error -1020 (sharing violation)

    Using VMware Data Recovery 1.1, backing up to CIFS share and getting this error 1/18/2010 8:55:31 AM: Performing incremental back up of disk "Lun VM/VM-DB1-flat.vmdk" using "SCSI Hot-Add" 1/18/2010 8:55:32 AM: Trouble writing to destination volume, error -1020 ( sharing violation) Integrity checks of the destination complete successfully and I tried rebooting the VDR appliance just in case. To resolve the issue I removed the share from the VDR, pointed the backups to other destinations and renamed the VMware Data Recovery subfolder in the destination, then re-added the share and pointed the backups, this of course creates a new Backup Store. Anyone have any ideas why this error is occuring, means I can't backup into this Backup Store any longer.

    Hi All, I have a question on a situation, that hasn't yet arrisen but I wondered the possibilities and how we go about it. Currently we backup our Exchange 2003 Cluster with Backup exec. Currently it is set to backup the Microsoft Information Store on that server and all of the Mailbox Stores beneath it. We have previously used this in conjunction with a recovery storage group on the same server to recover lost mailboxes. However, due to space constrictions on that server ( a seperate issue that is being addressed in the very near future but outside of the scope of this question) we now don't have enough space on that server to do a recovery storage group type restore. Is it possible, to restore an information store, to a different server in the same administrative group (ie first)? By that I mean we have the following: Server1 | First Storage Group | Mailbox Store1/2/3 Could Mailbox Store 1 be restored to: Server2 | First Storage Group | Recovery Storage Group Both servers are under the same Administrative Group Currently for whatever reason ( mainly time) the mailboxes are not being backed up individually. So, it's a pretty big amount of data. All the data have external access (via HTTP). So, the question is: what methodology is best in my case? The most useful method I know is cross-backup: when each server contains its own data and backup of one other server. But, there is significant reduction in total capacity. RAID?

  • Automatically wake up notebooks not on the ethernet

    I am looking for an automated backup system and I like bacula. I have 3 Notebooks and a Desktop computer that need regular backup. Now I don't want to let them run all night just to do the backuping, so I was thinking I could use wake-on-lan to have bacula wake up the machines, then do the backups, and shut them down afterswards. While this may work with devices on the ethernet, it won't work with the Notebooks on the wifi. So is it possible to have the Notebooks schedules to automatically wake up from suspend or shutdown ? Or is it possible to interject a shutdown command if it is after a certain hour and call the bacula director to start the backup now? I'm new to controlling the linux system using scripts, so any hints on how and where to start are greatly appreciated. Thanks alot for your help, input and ideas.

  • To Delete or Not to Delete Arcserve Makeup Jobs?

    Every once in a while, I have a backup job that fails with my backup server running ARCserve 12.5. A failure results in the creation of a 'makeup' job. I run the makeup job and even if it completes it stays in my job cue. These have piled up over the past couple of years and I find myself wondering if its ok to delete them knowing that ARCserve relies on a sql database to catalog backup info and data. If I run a makeup job, can I just delete it afterward? Should I just collect them? I have not seen anything so far that makes me feel confident with what to do with these leftover jobs.

    Background: My fiancée needs a Mac Pro for movie editing and rendering. I need a web server and a backup solution for my MacBook Pro. Idea We thought we could split the costs of the Mac Pro and set it up to act as both a web server and a backup device. Question Is this a good idea? Specifically: Is it easy to set it up to incrementally backup one or several laptops over wifi? And what software would you recommend? Is it silent and stable enough to run a web server continuously?   • Run script when shutting down ubuntu before the logged in user is logged out

    I'm writing a script to backup some local directories on a unix machine (Ubuntu) to a samba drive. The script works fine and I've got it running at shutdown and restart using the method described at http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3348-ubuntu-executing-a-script-at-startup-and-shutdown It works by placing the backup script into the /etc/rc6.d and /etc/rc0.d directories. However there is a problem. After looking at the scripts logfile it seems to be run after the user is logged out. We are using LDAP authentication and when the user logs out, the system cannot backup to their samba share. Does anyone know of anyway to run the script before the user is logged out?

  • Avoid cache overflow in Atempo LiveBackup

    When attempting the initial backup of a new client, Atempo LiveBackup seems to require a very large cache. For instance, a 20 GB cache is not enough to back up a computer that has 100 GB of data. It appears that LiveBackup is adding new files to the cache at a faster rate than it can send them to the server. When the cache fills up, the backup fails. Aside from removing most data from the computer and then add them back gradually after the initial backup, is there a good workaround? Is it possible to make LiveBackup slow down its scan so as to not fill the cache? Or is it possible to place the cache on an external drive?
