  • Set vertex position

    - by user1806687
    Can anyone tell me how to set the positions of model vertices? I want to be able to change the position of some of the vertices of a Model. Is there any way to make that happen? And make the changed visible at that moment. EDIT: Well, the thing is,I have a model, a cube, that is made up of four "thin" cubes(top,bottom,left side, right side), so I get this cube with "hole" in the middle. And I want to scale it on Y axis. If I do Scale(0,2,0) it will scale the whole object meaning, it will double the Y size of left and right side, but also double the size of the top and bottom cube, which I do not want. Same for X axis I want to double the size of top and bottom cubes but not the left and right one. Hope you can help

  • CheckedState inconsisten in Treeview using Find Method

    - by M Murphy
    Hello, I'm using a Treeview control in a .NET 3.5 c# project and I'm noticing inconsistencies in the checked property when I use the find method of the Treeview control. I'll check some leaves (nodes with no children) and then click a button. Inside the button click I'm using the find method of the treeview control to locate the node and interrogate the value of the checked property. On screen the leaf will be checked but according to the checked property of the node returned from the Find method its not checked. Has anyone else run into this? Thanks

  • Is it relevant to warn about truncating real constants to 32 bits?

    - by zneak
    I'm toying around with LLVM and looking at what it would take to make yet another strongly-typed language, and now that I'm around the syntax, I've noticed that it seems to be a pet peeve of strongly typed language to warn people that their constants won't fit inside a float: // both in Java and C# float foo = 3.2; // error: implicitly truncating a double into a float // or something along these lines Why doesn't this work in Java and C#? I know it's easy to add the f after the 3.2, but is it really doing anything useful? Must I really be that aware that I'm using single-precision reals instead of double-precision reals? Maybe I'm just missing something (which, basically, is why I'm asking). Note that float foo = [const] is not the same thing as float foo = [double variable], where requiring the cast seems normal to me.

  • Dependency Properties Made Easy

    ok so I found that for some reason I thought I did a post on this before and I couldn't find it. So I thought I would make a new post as simple as possible. Here is a simple dp:public readonly DependencyProperty ResistanceProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("Resistance", typeof(double), typeof(AnimatingPanelBase), null);public double Resistance{get{return (double)GetValue(ResistanceProperty);}set{SetValue(ResistanceProperty, value);}}Nice and simple right? why bother you ask, well the biggest...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.

  • ASP.NET Radio Button State and Back Key

    - by Dave S
    When using the browser back key on a page with radio buttons and using auto-postback, the state of the buttons (checked) stays the same while other parts of the page do not. This results in a situation where button two is checked and the cached page (because of server-side logic) displays a message that button 1 is checked. What is the best way to handle this situation? The following code example exhibits this behavior: [Form:] <asp:RadioButton ID="rb1" runat="server" AutoPostBack="true" Text="Button1" OnCheckedChanged="rb_CheckedChanged" GroupName="rbgroup" Checked="true" /> <br /> <asp:RadioButton ID="rb2" runat="server" AutoPostBack="true" Text="Button2" OnCheckedChanged="rb_CheckedChanged" GroupName="rbgroup" /> <br /> <hr /> <asp:Label ID="lbl1" runat="server">Button 1</asp:Label> [Code Behind:] protected void rb_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (rb1.Checked == true) lbl1.Text = "Button 1"; else lbl1.Text = "Button 2"; }

  • How do I display/compare a dynamic value of a mysql row in a if statement?

    - by Ralph The Mouf
    I have a checkboxes on my site that when unchecked, update their row in in the db as unchecked, and if checked,update their row in the db as checked. I am creating an ifstatement that will commence with its command if checked, and not if unchecked. I have echoed the variable and it is holding the proper value (checked or unchecked) but not sure if I am syntactically correct on displaying the state of the row in the db. This is what I am trying and will not work. I am new at php still and thank you very much for any help. if($auth->check_prof == 'checked'){// do the stuff in here}

  • Using Oracle Proxy Authentication with JPA (eclipselink-Style)

    - by olaf.heimburger
    Security is a very intriguing topic. You will find it everywhere and you need to implement it everywhere. Yes, you need. Unfortunately, one can easily forget it while implementing the last mile. The Last Mile In a multi-tier application it is a common practice to use connection pools between the business layer and the database layer. Connection pools are quite useful to speed database connection creation and to split the load. Another very common practice is to use a specific, often called technical, user to connect to the database. This user has authentication and authorization rules that apply to all application users. Imagine you've put every effort to define roles for different types of users that use your application. These roles are necessary to differentiate between normal users, premium users, and administrators (I bet you will find or already have more roles in your application). While these user roles are pretty well used within your application, once the flow of execution enters the database everything is gone. Each and every user just has one role and is the same database user. Issues? What Issues? As long as things go well, this is not a real issue. However, things do not go well all the time. Once your application becomes famous performance decreases in certain situations or, more importantly, current and upcoming regulations and laws require that your application must be able to apply different security measures on a per user role basis at every stage of your application. If you only have a bunch of users with the same name and role you are not able to find the application usage profile that causes the performance issue, or which user has accessed data that he/she is not allowed to. Another thread to your role concept is that databases tend to be used by different applications and tools. These tools can be developer tools like SQL*Plus, SQL Developer, etc. or end user applications like BI Publisher, Oracle Forms and so on. These tools have no idea of your applications role concept and access the database the way they think is appropriate. A big oversight for your perfect role model and a big nightmare for your Chief Security Officer. Speaking of the CSO, brings up another issue: Password management. Once your technical user account is compromised, every user is able to do things that he/she is not expected to do from the design of your application. Counter Measures In the Oracle world a common counter measure is to use Virtual Private Database (VPD). This restricts the values a database user can see to the allowed minimum. However, it doesn't help in regard of a connection pool user, because this one is still not the real user. Oracle Proxy Authentication Another feature of the Oracle database is Proxy Authentication. First introduced with version 9i it is a quite useful feature for nearly every situation. The main idea behind Proxy Authentication is, to create a crippled database user who has only connect rights. Even if this user is compromised the risks are well understood and fairly limited. This user can be used in every situation in which you need to connect to the database, no matter which tool or application (see above) you use.The proxy user is perfect for multi-tier connection pools. CREATE USER app_user IDENTIFIED BY abcd1234; GRANT CREATE SESSION TO app_user; But what if you need to access real data? Well, this is the primary use case, isn't it? Now is the time to bring the application's role concept into play. You define database roles that define the grants for your identified user groups. Once you have these groups you grant access through the proxy user with the application role to the specific user. CREATE ROLE app_role_a; GRANT app_role_a TO scott; ALTER USER scott GRANT CONNECT THROUGH app_user WITH ROLE app_role_a; Now, hr has permission to connect to the database through the proxy user. Through the role you can restrict the hr's rights the are needed for the application only. If hr connects to the database directly all assigned role and permissions apply. Testing the Setup To test the setup you can use SQL*Plus and connect to your database: $ sqlplus app_user[hr]/abcd1234 Java Persistence API The Java Persistence API (JPA) is a fairly easy means to build applications that retrieve data from the database and put it into Java objects. You use plain old Java objects (POJOs) and mixin some Java annotations that define how the attributes of the object are used for storing data from the database into the Java object. Here is a sample for objects from the HR sample schema EMPLOYEES table. When using Java annotations you only specify what can not be deduced from the code. If your Java class name is Employee but the table name is EMPLOYEES, you need to specify the table name, otherwise it will fail. package demo.proxy.ejb; import java.io.Serializable; import java.sql.Timestamp; import java.util.List; import javax.persistence.Column; import javax.persistence.Entity; import javax.persistence.Id; import javax.persistence.JoinColumn; import javax.persistence.ManyToOne; import javax.persistence.NamedQueries; import javax.persistence.NamedQuery; import javax.persistence.OneToMany; import javax.persistence.Table; @Entity @NamedQueries({ @NamedQuery(name = "Employee.findAll", query = "select o from Employee o") }) @Table(name = "EMPLOYEES") public class Employee implements Serializable { @Column(name="COMMISSION_PCT") private Double commissionPct; @Column(name="DEPARTMENT_ID") private Long departmentId; @Column(nullable = false, unique = true, length = 25) private String email; @Id @Column(name="EMPLOYEE_ID", nullable = false) private Long employeeId; @Column(name="FIRST_NAME", length = 20) private String firstName; @Column(name="HIRE_DATE", nullable = false) private Timestamp hireDate; @Column(name="JOB_ID", nullable = false, length = 10) private String jobId; @Column(name="LAST_NAME", nullable = false, length = 25) private String lastName; @Column(name="PHONE_NUMBER", length = 20) private String phoneNumber; private Double salary; @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name = "MANAGER_ID") private Employee employee; @OneToMany(mappedBy = "employee") private List employeeList; public Employee() { } public Employee(Double commissionPct, Long departmentId, String email, Long employeeId, String firstName, Timestamp hireDate, String jobId, String lastName, Employee employee, String phoneNumber, Double salary) { this.commissionPct = commissionPct; this.departmentId = departmentId; this.email = email; this.employeeId = employeeId; this.firstName = firstName; this.hireDate = hireDate; this.jobId = jobId; this.lastName = lastName; this.employee = employee; this.phoneNumber = phoneNumber; this.salary = salary; } public Double getCommissionPct() { return commissionPct; } public void setCommissionPct(Double commissionPct) { this.commissionPct = commissionPct; } public Long getDepartmentId() { return departmentId; } public void setDepartmentId(Long departmentId) { this.departmentId = departmentId; } public String getEmail() { return email; } public void setEmail(String email) { this.email = email; } public Long getEmployeeId() { return employeeId; } public void setEmployeeId(Long employeeId) { this.employeeId = employeeId; } public String getFirstName() { return firstName; } public void setFirstName(String firstName) { this.firstName = firstName; } public Timestamp getHireDate() { return hireDate; } public void setHireDate(Timestamp hireDate) { this.hireDate = hireDate; } public String getJobId() { return jobId; } public void setJobId(String jobId) { this.jobId = jobId; } public String getLastName() { return lastName; } public void setLastName(String lastName) { this.lastName = lastName; } public String getPhoneNumber() { return phoneNumber; } public void setPhoneNumber(String phoneNumber) { this.phoneNumber = phoneNumber; } public Double getSalary() { return salary; } public void setSalary(Double salary) { this.salary = salary; } public Employee getEmployee() { return employee; } public void setEmployee(Employee employee) { this.employee = employee; } public List getEmployeeList() { return employeeList; } public void setEmployeeList(List employeeList) { this.employeeList = employeeList; } public Employee addEmployee(Employee employee) { getEmployeeList().add(employee); employee.setEmployee(this); return employee; } public Employee removeEmployee(Employee employee) { getEmployeeList().remove(employee); employee.setEmployee(null); return employee; } } JPA could be used in standalone applications and Java EE containers. In both worlds you normally create a Facade to retrieve or store the values of the Entities to or from the database. The Facade does this via an EntityManager which will be injected by the Java EE container. Here is sample Facade Session Bean for a Java EE container. package demo.proxy.ejb; import java.util.HashMap; import java.util.List; import javax.ejb.Local; import javax.ejb.Remote; import javax.ejb.Stateless; import javax.persistence.EntityManager; import javax.persistence.PersistenceContext; import javax.persistence.Query; import javax.interceptor.AroundInvoke; import javax.interceptor.InvocationContext; import oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection; import org.eclipse.persistence.config.EntityManagerProperties; import org.eclipse.persistence.internal.jpa.EntityManagerImpl; @Stateless(name = "DataFacade", mappedName = "ProxyUser-TestEJB-DataFacade") @Remote @Local public class DataFacadeBean implements DataFacade, DataFacadeLocal { @PersistenceContext(unitName = "TestEJB") private EntityManager em; private String username; public Object queryByRange(String jpqlStmt, int firstResult, int maxResults) { // setSessionUser(); Query query = em.createQuery(jpqlStmt); if (firstResult 0) { query = query.setFirstResult(firstResult); } if (maxResults 0) { query = query.setMaxResults(maxResults); } return query.getResultList(); } public Employee persistEmployee(Employee employee) { // setSessionUser(); em.persist(employee); return employee; } public Employee mergeEmployee(Employee employee) { // setSessionUser(); return em.merge(employee); } public void removeEmployee(Employee employee) { // setSessionUser(); employee = em.find(Employee.class, employee.getEmployeeId()); em.remove(employee); } /** select o from Employee o */ public List getEmployeeFindAll() { Query q = em.createNamedQuery("Employee.findAll"); return q.getResultList(); } Putting Both Together To use Proxy Authentication with JPA and within a Java EE container you have to take care of the additional requirements: Use an OCI JDBC driver Provide the user name that connects through the proxy user Use an OCI JDBC driver To use the OCI JDBC driver you need to set up your JDBC data source file to use the correct JDBC URL. hr jdbc:oracle:oci8:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=XE))) oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver user app_user 62C32F70E98297522AD97E15439FAC0E SQL SELECT 1 FROM DUAL jdbc/hrDS Application Additionally you need to make sure that the version of the shared libraries of the OCI driver match the version of the JDBC driver in your Java EE container or Java application and are within your PATH (on Windows) or LD_LIBRARY_PATH (on most Unix-based systems). Installing the Oracle Database Instance Client software works perfectly. Provide the user name that connects through the proxy user This part needs some modification of your application software and session facade. Session Facade Changes In the Session Facade we must ensure that every call that goes through the EntityManager must be prepared correctly and uniquely assigned to this session. The second is really important, as the EntityManager works with a connection pool and can not guarantee that we set the proxy user on the connection that will be used for the database activities. To avoid changing every method call of the Session Facade we provide a method to set the username of the user that connects through the proxy user. This method needs to be called by the Facade client bfore doing anything else. public void setUsername(String name) { username = name; } Next we provide a means to instruct the TopLink EntityManager Delegate to use Oracle Proxy Authentication. (I love small helper methods to hide the nitty-gritty details and avoid repeating myself.) private void setSessionUser() { setSessionUser(username); } private void setSessionUser(String user) { if (user != null && !user.isEmpty()) { EntityManagerImpl emDelegate = ((EntityManagerImpl)em.getDelegate()); emDelegate.setProperty(EntityManagerProperties.ORACLE_PROXY_TYPE, OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME); emDelegate.setProperty(OracleConnection.PROXY_USER_NAME, user); emDelegate.setProperty(EntityManagerProperties.EXCLUSIVE_CONNECTION_MODE, "Always"); } } The final step is use the EJB 3.0 AroundInvoke interceptor. This interceptor will be called around every method invocation. We therefore check whether the Facade methods will be called or not. If so, we set the user for proxy authentication and the normal method flow continues. @AroundInvoke public Object proxyInterceptor(InvocationContext invocationCtx) throws Exception { if (invocationCtx.getTarget() instanceof DataFacadeBean) { setSessionUser(); } return invocationCtx.proceed(); } Benefits Using Oracle Proxy Authentification has a number of additional benefits appart from implementing the role model of your application: Fine grained access control for temporary users of the account, without compromising the original password. Enabling database auditing and logging. Better identification of performance bottlenecks. • Debug Symbols not loading

    - by FunkyFresh84
    I am trying to enable visual studio to step through the .net framework source code when I am debugging. I have tried with both Visual Web-Developer-Express-2010 and Visual-Studio-2011-Express-For-Web and I am getting the same problem with each. When I get to the break point at the .net method I wish to step into I do right-clickstep-into-specificclick-method-to-step-into. Then VS opens a new tab. saying it couldn't find or load the symbols. It gives a list of the assembly symbols it looked for. There is also a 'Load Symbols hyperlink which doesn't work. And another hyperlink that takes me to the debug settings dialog. I have read tutorials on how to set it up and have believe I have the correct settings. In the debugging general settings I have - enable address-level debugging - checked enable source server support - checked enable .net framework source stepping - checked enable just my code - not checked In the debugging symbol settings I have - symbol file (.pdb) locations - Microsoft Symbol Servers - checked Caching Directory - C:\Users\MyAccount\AppData\Local\Temp\SymbolCache Automatically load symbols for: all modules unless excluded - checked Why is it not working? Thank you for your help. edit: here is a screenshot of the error VS is giving me.

  • Bound checkbox does not update its datasource.

    - by Scott Chamberlain
    I have a checkbox who's checked value is bound to a binding source which is bound to a boolean data table column. When I click my save button to push my changes in my data table to my sql server the value in the data table is never changed. Designer code. this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges = new System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox(); this.preProductionBindingSource = new System.Windows.Forms.BindingSource(); // // cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges // this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.AutoSize = true; this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.DataBindings.Add(new System.Windows.Forms.Binding("Checked", this.preProductionBindingSource, "WEBINFINTY_CHANGES", true, System.Windows.Forms.DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged)); this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.Location = new System.Drawing.Point(6, 98); this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.Name = "cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges"; this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.Size = new System.Drawing.Size(152, 17); this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.TabIndex = 30; this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.Text = "Keep WebInfinity Changes"; this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.UseVisualStyleBackColor = true; this.cbxKeepWebInfinityChanges.CheckedChanged += new System.EventHandler(this.CauseApplyChangesActivation); // // preProductionBindingSource // this.preProductionBindingSource.AllowNew = false; this.preProductionBindingSource.DataMember = "PreProduction"; this.preProductionBindingSource.DataSource = this.salesLogix; Save Code //the comments are the debugger values before the call in going from checked when loaded to unchecked when saved. private void btnApplyChanges_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { (...) // non related saving logic for other controls preProductionBindingSource.EndEdit(); // checked = false, databinding = true, datatable = true preProductionTableAdapter.Update(salesLogix.PreProduction); // checked = false, databinding = true, datatable = true } After the saving code the box rechecks itself. The same things happens when going from unchecked to checked. does not save the change and reverts to the old value. Other items I have bound to the same data-binding source (I have two combo boxes) are updating correctly.

  • populating one checkedlistbox with another (checkedlistbox)

    - by 8thWonder
    I am having difficulties populating a checkedlistbox (CLB) based on the selection(s) made in another. It should also be noted that I have a "Select All" checkbox at the top that checks/unchecks all of the items in the first CLB. Here's the code: Private Sub chkSelectAll_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles chkSelectAll.CheckedChanged For i As Integer = 0 To clb1.Items.Count - 1 clb1.SetItemChecked(i, chkSelectAll.Checked) Next End Sub Private Sub clb1_ItemCheck(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.ItemCheckEventArgs) Handles clb1.ItemCheck Dim i As Integer = clb1.SelectedIndex For j As Integer = 0 To al_2.Count - 1 If i = -1 Then For k As Integer = 0 To al_2.Count - 1 If Not clb2.Contains(al_2(k).sDate) Then clb2.Items.Add(al_2(k).sDate) Else : k += 1 End If Next ElseIf (e.NewValue = CheckState.Checked And al_2(j).sName = al_1(i)) Then clb2.Items.Add(al_2(j).sDate) ElseIf (e.NewValue = CheckState.Unchecked And al_2(j).sName = al_1(i)) Then clbProdBkups.Items.Remove(al_2(j).sDate) End If Next End Sub The first CLB is populated with an arraylist of values on the button click event. Based on whatever is checked in the first CLB, corresponding values from an arraylist of structures should fill the second CLB. The following code partially works until the "Select All" checkbox is clicked at which point one of two things happens: If other values have been selected before "Select All" is checked, the second CLB is filled with the correct number of corresponding values BUT only those of the most recently selected item of the first CLB instead of all of corresponding values of all of the items that were not already selected. When "Select All" is unchecked, the most recently incorrect values are removed, everything in CLB 1 is unchecked but the values in CLB 2 that were selected before "Select All" was checked remain. If "Select All" is checked before anything else is selected, I get an "unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.Control'" error that points to the following statement from the itemcheck event: If Not clb2.Contains(al_2(k).sDate) Then Any insights will be greatly appreciated. ~8th

  • php mysql parallel array checkboxes

    - by gramware
    I have an array of checkboxes that I edit at once to set up a 'tinyint' field. the problem comes in when i uncheck the checkbox and post the vales to mysql. since it posts an array of checkboxes and another parallel array of values to edit, unchecking a checkbox results in the 0 value been ignored by PHP_POST and hence the checkbox array will be less by the number of unchecked values in the form while the array to be edited will have all the records in the form. here is the submit code while($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $checked = ($row[active]==1) ? 'checked="checked"' : ''; ... echo "<input type='hidden' name='TrID[]' value='$TrID'>"; echo "<input type='checkbox' name='active1[]' value='$row[active]''$checked' >"; ... and the processing php script $userid = ($_POST['TrID']); $checked= ($_POST['active']); $i=0; foreach ($userid as $usid) { if ($checked[$i]==1){ $check = 1; } else{ $check = 0; } $qry1 ="UPDATE `epapers`.`clientelle` SET `active` = '$check' WHERE `clientelle`.`user_id` = '$usid' "; $result = mysql_query($qry1); $i++; }

  • WPF - Extend ListView with checkable AND selectable ListViewItems

    - by Marks
    Hi there. I already read many examples on extending ListViews with checkboxes bound with IsSelected. But I want something more. I want a seperation between the checked and selected state, so i get a ListBox that has a single selected item, but can have multiple checked items. Unfortunately ListViewItem does not have a property for checked and I dont see a possibility to get the ListView to work with a custom CheckableListViewItem. Of course i could use a List of objects with a checked property as ItemSource, but I dont think thats a good way to go. Checked or not is a matter of the list or item-container, not of the object listed in it. Beside that I dont want all my classes like user, role, group to have counterparts like checkableUser, checkableRole and checkableGroup. The behaviour i want can be easyly accomblished for the UI with a <DataTemplate x:Key="CheckBoxCell"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <CheckBox /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> and a <GridViewColumn CellTemplate="{StaticResource CheckBoxCell}" Width="30"/> But without a binding on the checkbox i cant check if it is checked or not. Is there any way to accomplish something like that? The perfect solution for me would be to have listView1.SelectedItem, listView1.CheckedItems and maybe a listView1.UncheckedItems and of course listView1.CheckItem and listView1.UncheckItem. Thanks for any help.

  • ASP.NET 'Check all checkboxes' control

    - by RUiHAO
    I am using visual studio 2005 c#, and doing server side coding. I have a list of checkboxes in my gridview via checkbox template. I have tried to assign a checkbox in my header template, and assigned a checkbox_checkchange method to make it such that when the checkbox at the header is checked, the list of checkboxes in the template will be checked as well. However, it does not work and I am not able to spot the mistake. Below is my code for my checkbox in header template: protected void CheckAllCB_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { CheckBox chk = (CheckBox)GridView1.HeaderRow.FindControl("CheckAll"); if (chk.Checked) { for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.Rows.Count; i++) { CheckBox chkrow = (CheckBox)GridView1.Rows[i].FindControl("UserSelector"); chkrow.Checked = true; } } else { for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.Rows.Count; i++) { CheckBox chkrow = (CheckBox)GridView1.Rows[i].FindControl("UserSelector"); chkrow.Checked = false; } } } Thus I tried using a button to assign the checkall command instead. However, when I clicked on the button, the page does nothing but just refreshes itself. Below is my code for the checkall and uncheckall button: private void ToggleCheckState(bool checkState) { // Iterate through the Products.Rows property foreach (GridViewRow row in GridView1.Rows) { // Access the CheckBox CheckBox cb = (CheckBox)row.FindControl("UserSelector"); if (cb != null) cb.Checked = checkState; } } protected void CheckAll_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ToggleCheckState(true); } protected void UncheckAll_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ToggleCheckState(false); } Anyone can help me identify the mistake I did in my method? Thank you UserSelection GridView template:

  • Master-slave vs. peer-to-peer archictecture: benefits and problems

    - by Ashok_Ora
    Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Almost two decades ago, I was a member of a database development team that introduced adaptive locking. Locking, the most popular concurrency control technique in database systems, is pessimistic. Locking ensures that two or more conflicting operations on the same data item don’t “trample” on each other’s toes, resulting in data corruption. In a nutshell, here’s the issue we were trying to address. In everyday life, traffic lights serve the same purpose. They ensure that traffic flows smoothly and when everyone follows the rules, there are no accidents at intersections. As I mentioned earlier, the problem with typical locking protocols is that they are pessimistic. Regardless of whether there is another conflicting operation in the system or not, you have to hold a lock! Acquiring and releasing locks can be quite expensive, depending on how many objects the transaction touches. Every transaction has to pay this penalty. To use the earlier traffic light analogy, if you have ever waited at a red light in the middle of nowhere with no one on the road, wondering why you need to wait when there’s clearly no danger of a collision, you know what I mean. The adaptive locking scheme that we invented was able to minimize the number of locks that a transaction held, by detecting whether there were one or more transactions that needed conflicting eyou could get by without holding any lock at all. In many “well-behaved” workloads, there are few conflicts, so this optimization is a huge win. If, on the other hand, there are many concurrent, conflicting requests, the algorithm gracefully degrades to the “normal” behavior with minimal cost. We were able to reduce the number of lock requests per TPC-B transaction from 178 requests down to 2! Wow! This is a dramatic improvement in concurrency as well as transaction latency. The lesson from this exercise was that if you can identify the common scenario and optimize for that case so that only the uncommon scenarios are more expensive, you can make dramatic improvements in performance without sacrificing correctness. So how does this relate to the architecture and design of some of the modern NoSQL systems? NoSQL systems can be broadly classified as master-slave sharded, or peer-to-peer sharded systems. NoSQL systems with a peer-to-peer architecture have an interesting way of handling changes. Whenever an item is changed, the client (or an intermediary) propagates the changes synchronously or asynchronously to multiple copies (for availability) of the data. Since the change can be propagated asynchronously, during some interval in time, it will be the case that some copies have received the update, and others haven’t. What happens if someone tries to read the item during this interval? The client in a peer-to-peer system will fetch the same item from multiple copies and compare them to each other. If they’re all the same, then every copy that was queried has the same (and up-to-date) value of the data item, so all’s good. If not, then the system provides a mechanism to reconcile the discrepancy and to update stale copies. So what’s the problem with this? There are two major issues: First, IT’S HORRIBLY PESSIMISTIC because, in the common case, it is unlikely that the same data item will be updated and read from different locations at around the same time! For every read operation, you have to read from multiple copies. That’s a pretty expensive, especially if the data are stored in multiple geographically separate locations and network latencies are high. Second, if the copies are not all the same, the application has to reconcile the differences and propagate the correct value to the out-dated copies. This means that the application program has to handle discrepancies in the different versions of the data item and resolve the issue (which can further add to cost and operation latency). Resolving discrepancies is only one part of the problem. What if the same data item was updated independently on two different nodes (copies)? In that case, due to the asynchronous nature of change propagation, you might land up with different versions of the data item in different copies. In this case, the application program also has to resolve conflicts and then propagate the correct value to the copies that are out-dated or have incorrect versions. This can get really complicated. My hunch is that there are many peer-to-peer-based applications that don’t handle this correctly, and worse, don’t even know it. Imagine have 100s of millions of records in your database – how can you tell whether a particular data item is incorrect or out of date? And what price are you willing to pay for ensuring that the data can be trusted? Multiple network messages per read request? Discrepancy and conflict resolution logic in the application, and potentially, additional messages? All this overhead, when all you were trying to do was to read a data item. Wouldn’t it be simpler to avoid this problem in the first place? Master-slave architectures like the Oracle NoSQL Database handles this very elegantly. A change to a data item is always sent to the master copy. Consequently, the master copy always has the most current and authoritative version of the data item. The master is also responsible for propagating the change to the other copies (for availability and read scalability). Client drivers are aware of master copies and replicas, and client drivers are also aware of the “currency” of a replica. In other words, each NoSQL Database client knows how stale a replica is. This vastly simplifies the job of the application developer. If the application needs the most current version of the data item, the client driver will automatically route the request to the master copy. If the application is willing to tolerate some staleness of data (e.g. a version that is no more than 1 second out of date), the client can easily determine which replica (or set of replicas) can satisfy the request, and route the request to the most efficient copy. This results in a dramatic simplification in application logic and also minimizes network requests (the driver will only send the request to exactl the right replica, not many). So, back to my original point. A well designed and well architected system minimizes or eliminates unnecessary overhead and avoids pessimistic algorithms wherever possible in order to deliver a highly efficient and high performance system. If you’ve every programmed an Oracle NoSQL Database application, you’ll know the difference! /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;}

  • WPF / C#: Transforming coordinates from an image control to the image source

    - by Gabriel
    I'm trying to learn WPF, so here's a simple question, I hope: I have a window that contains an Image element bound to a separate data object with user-configurable Stretch property <Image Name="imageCtrl" Source="{Binding MyImage}" Stretch="{Binding ImageStretch}" /> When the user moves the mouse over the image, I would like to determine the coordinates of the mouse with respect to the original image (before stretching/cropping that occurs when it is displayed in the control), and then do something with those coordinates (update the image). I know I can add an event-handler to the MouseMove event over the Image control, but I'm not sure how best to transform the coordinates: void imageCtrl_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { Point locationInControl = e.GetPosition(imageCtrl); Point locationInImage = ??? updateImage(locationInImage); } Now I know I could compare the size of Source to the ActualSize of the control, and then switch on imageCtrl.Stretch to compute the scalars and offsets on X and Y, and do the transform myself. But WPF has all the information already, and this seems like functionality that might be built-in to the WPF libraries somewhere. So I'm wondering: is there a short and sweet solution? Or do I need to write this myself? EDIT I'm appending my current, not-so-short-and-sweet solution. Its not that bad, but I'd be somewhat suprised if WPF didn't provide this functionality automatically: Point ImgControlCoordsToPixelCoords(Point locInCtrl, double imgCtrlActualWidth, double imgCtrlActualHeight) { if (ImageStretch == Stretch.None) return locInCtrl; Size renderSize = new Size(imgCtrlActualWidth, imgCtrlActualHeight); Size sourceSize = bitmap.Size; double xZoom = renderSize.Width / sourceSize.Width; double yZoom = renderSize.Height / sourceSize.Height; if (ImageStretch == Stretch.Fill) return new Point(locInCtrl.X / xZoom, locInCtrl.Y / yZoom); double zoom; if (ImageStretch == Stretch.Uniform) zoom = Math.Min(xZoom, yZoom); else // (imageCtrl.Stretch == Stretch.UniformToFill) zoom = Math.Max(xZoom, yZoom); return new Point(locInCtrl.X / zoom, locInCtrl.Y / zoom); }

  • Silverlight 4 WriteableBitmap ScaleTransform Exception but was working in v3

    - by Imran
    I am getting the following exception for code that used to work in silverlight 3 but has stopped working since upgrading to silverlight 4: System.AccessViolationException was unhandled Message=Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. namespace SilverlightApplication1 { public partial class MainPage : UserControl { public MainPage() { InitializeComponent(); } private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { var OpenFileDialog = new OpenFileDialog(); OpenFileDialog.Filter = "*.jpg|*.jpg"; if (OpenFileDialog.ShowDialog() == true) { var file = OpenFileDialog.Files.ToArray()[0]; ScaleStreamAsBitmap(file.OpenRead(), 200); } } public static WriteableBitmap ScaleStreamAsBitmap(Stream file, int maxEdgeLength) { file.Position = 0; var src = new BitmapImage(); var uiElement = new System.Windows.Controls.Image(); WriteableBitmap b = null; var t = new ScaleTransform(); src.SetSource(file); uiElement.Source = src; //force render uiElement.Effect = new DropShadowEffect() { ShadowDepth = 0, BlurRadius = 0 }; ; //calc scale double scaleX = 1; double scaleY = 1; if (src.PixelWidth > maxEdgeLength) scaleX = ((double)maxEdgeLength) / src.PixelWidth; if (src.PixelHeight > maxEdgeLength) scaleY = ((double)maxEdgeLength) / src.PixelHeight; double scale = Math.Min(scaleX, scaleY); t.ScaleX = scale; t.ScaleY = scale; b = new WriteableBitmap(uiElement, t); return b; } } } Thanks

  • Python 3: regex to split on successions of newline characters

    - by Beau Martínez
    I'm trying to split a string on newline characters (catering for Windows, OS X, and Unix text file newline characters). If there are any succession of these, I want to split on that too and not include any in the result. So, for when splitting the following: "Foo\r\n\r\nDouble Windows\r\rDouble OS X\n\nDouble Unix\r\nWindows\rOS X\nUnix" The result would be: ['Foo', 'Double Windows', 'Double OS X', 'Double Unix', 'Windows', 'OS X', 'Unix'] What regex should I use?

  • asp.net MVC 1.0 and 2.0 currency model binding

    - by David Liddle
    I would like to create model binding functionality so a user can enter ',' '.' etc for currency values which bind to a double value of my ViewModel. I was able to do this in MVC 1.0 by creating a custom model binder, however since upgrading to MVC 2.0 this functionality no longer works. Does anyone have any ideas or better solutions for performing this functionality? A better solution would be to use some data annotation or custom attribute. public class MyViewModel { public double MyCurrencyValue { get; set; } } A preferred solution would be something like this... public class MyViewModel { [CurrencyAttribute] public double MyCurrencyValue { get; set; } } Below is my solution for model binding in MVC 1.0. public class MyCustomModelBinder : DefaultModelBinder { public override object BindModel(ControllerContext controllerContext, ModelBindingContext bindingContext) { object result = null; ValueProviderResult valueResult; bindingContext.ValueProvider.TryGetValue(bindingContext.ModelName, out valueResult); bindingContext.ModelState.SetModelValue(bindingContext.ModelName, valueResult); if (bindingContext.ModelType == typeof(double)) { string modelName = bindingContext.ModelName; string attemptedValue = bindingContext.ValueProvider[modelName].AttemptedValue; string wantedSeperator = NumberFormatInfo.CurrentInfo.NumberDecimalSeparator; string alternateSeperator = (wantedSeperator == "," ? "." : ","); try { result = double.Parse(attemptedValue, NumberStyles.Any); } catch (FormatException e) { bindingContext.ModelState.AddModelError(modelName, e); } } else { result = base.BindModel(controllerContext, bindingContext); } return result; } }

  • How to Zip one IEnumerable with itself

    - by wageoghe
    I am implementing some math algorithms based on lists of points, like Distance, Area, Centroid, etc. Just like in this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2227828/find-the-distance-required-to-navigate-a-list-of-points-using-linq That post describes how to calculate the total distance of a sequence of points (taken in order) by essentially zipping the sequence "with itself", generating the sequence for Zip by offsetting the start position of the original IEnumerable by 1. So, given the Zip extension in .Net 4.0, assuming Point for the point type, and a reasonable Distance formula, you can make calls like this to generate a sequence of distances from one point to the next and then to sum the distances: var distances = points.Zip(points.Skip(1),Distance); double totalDistance = distances.Sum(); Area and Centroid calculations are similar in that they need to iterate over the sequence, processing each pair of points (points[i] and points[i+1]). I thought of making a generic IEnumerable extension suitable for implementing these (and possibly other) algorithms that operate over sequences, taking two items at a time (points[0] and points[1], points[1] and points[2], ..., points[n-1] and points[n] (or is it n-2 and n-1 ...) and applying a function. My generic iterator would have a similar signature to Zip, but it would not receive a second sequence to zip with as it is really just going to zip with itself. My first try looks like this: public static IEnumerable<TResult> ZipMyself<TSequence, TResult>(this IEnumerable<TSequence> seq, Func<TSequence, TSequence, TResult> resultSelector) { return seq.Zip(seq.Skip(1),resultSelector); } With my generic iterator in place, I can write functions like this: public static double Length(this IEnumerable<Point> points) { return points.ZipMyself(Distance).Sum(); } and call it like this: double d = points.Length(); and double GreensTheorem(Point p1, Point p1) { return p1.X * p2.Y - p1.Y * p2.X; } public static double SignedArea(this IEnumerable<Point> points) { return points.ZipMyself(GreensTheorem).Sum() / 2.0 } public static double Area(this IEnumerable<Point> points) { return Math.Abs(points.SignedArea()); } public static bool IsClockwise(this IEnumerable<Point> points) { return SignedArea(points) < 0; } and call them like this: double a = points.Area(); bool isClockwise = points.IsClockwise(); In this case, is there any reason NOT to implement "ZipMyself" in terms of Zip and Skip(1)? Is there already something in LINQ that automates this (zipping a list with itself) - not that it needs to be made that much easier ;-) Also, is there better name for the extension that might reflect that it is a well-known pattern (if, indeed it is a well-known pattern)? Had a link here for a StackOverflow question about area calculation. It is question 2432428. Also had a link to Wikipedia article on Centroid. Just go to Wikipedia and search for Centroid if interested. Just starting out, so don't have enough rep to post more than one link,

  • Update the Progress bar using winforms c#

    - by karthik
    There is a functionality in my module, where the user can scan the number of serial ports in the system and when the user clicks "Auto scan" button, the code will have to go through each serial port and send a test message and wait for the reply. I am using Progress bar control to show process of autoscan. For which i need to pass the value to "x" and "Y" in my code to update the bar. How can i pass the value since my code is already in a foreach loop for getting the serialports. Y = should pass the value of total number of serial ports X = should iterate through each port and pass the value Hope i am clear with req. private void backgroundWorker1_DoWork(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e) { string strAckData = ""; foreach (SerialPort sp in comPortsList) { sp.Open(); string sendData = "Auto scan"; sp.Write(sendData); strAckData += "Connection live on port " + sp.ReadExisting() + "\n"; sp.Close(); double dIndex = (double)x; **//How to pass the value here ?** double dTotal = (double)y; **//How to pass the value here ?** double dProgressPercentage = (dIndex / dTotal); int iProgressPercentage = (int)(dProgressPercentage * 100); // update the progress bar backgroundWorker1.ReportProgress(iProgressPercentage); } richTextBox1.Invoke(new MethodInvoker(delegate { richTextBox1.Text = strAckData; })); } private void backgroundWorker1_ProgressChanged(object sender, ProgressChangedEventArgs e) { ProgressBar.Value = e.ProgressPercentage; } private void backgroundWorker1_RunWorkerCompleted(object sender, RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs e) { StatusLabel.Text = "Auto Scan completed"; }
