  • In Entity framework, we can use Model first, DB first, Code first but how can we create table programmatically

    - by AukI
In entity framework we can use 3 approaches model first , code first , database first but each one of them needs manual hand touch(means creating database or create model or write the POCO class codes or entity class codes) before proceeding to the next step ( using EF in context ). What if I want to create database and tables and table relationships programatically and still want to have to features of EntityFramework 4.3. To be more specific , from this example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307283 we can create database , tables and everything using SQL command but we can't have the advantages of entity framework. So if we want to have that what should we do?

  • Horizontally Flip a One Bit Bitmap Line

    - by roygbiv
I'm looking for an algorithm to flip a 1 Bit Bitmap line horizontally. Remember these lines are DWORD aligned! I'm currently unencoding an RLE stream to an 8 bit-per-pixel buffer, then re-encoding to a 1 bit line, however, I would like to try and keep it all in the 1 bit space in an effort to increase its speed. Profiling indicates this portion of the program to be relatively slow compared to the rest. Example line (Before Flip): FF FF FF FF 77 AE F0 00 Example line (After Flip): F7 5E EF FF FF FF F0 00

  • Missing something with Entity Framework for .NET 3.5?

    - by AC
Is it not possible to have EF create the necessary entities when I have two related tables linked with a FK in .NET3.5SP1? I see where the checkbox to support this is disabled but it is available in .NET4. I've got a DB that has only tables with relationships in it. I need to build a Silverlight app (SL4) that allows management of the data within this app. I can't use .NET4 on the server... only .NET3.5SP1 so FK relationship bit in EF4 isn't available to me. Looking to avoid building as much of the plumbing to get back to the DB from the SL4 app as possible...

  • Moving webshop storage to NoSQL solution

    - by mare
If you had a webshop solution based on SQL Server relational DB what would be the reasons, if any, to move to NoSQL storage ? Does it even make sense to migrate datastores that rely on relations heavily to NoSQL? If starting from scratch, would you choose NoSQL solution over relational one for a webshop project, which will, after a while, again end up with a bunch of tables like Articles, Classifications, TaxRates, Pricelists etc. and a magnitude of relations between them? What's the support like in .NET (4.0) for MongoDB or MongoDB's support for .NET 4.0? Can I count on rich code generation tools similar to EF wizard, L2SQL wizard etc. for MongoDB? Because as what I have read so far, NoSQL's are mostly suited for document storage, simpler object models. Your answer to this question will help me make the right infrastructure design decisions.

  • Entity Framework .Include() with compile time checking?

    - by Mikey Cee
Consider the following code, which is calling against an EF generated data context: var context = new DataContext(); var employees = context.Employees.Include("Department"); If I change the name of the entity Department then this code is going to start throwing a runtime error. So I'll have to do some kind of find and replace throughout my code to replace each occurrence of "Department". Is there any way to call the .Include() method in a safe manner, so I get compile time checking for all the entity names being referenced?

  • EntityFramework how to Override properties

    - by plotnick
I've just started using EF in VS2010. That thing is just amazin'. I frankly can't understand something. For example I have EntityType with property, they generated from database structure. Now, I have to simply override that property in my code. I don't need to save value of the property back into DB, but everytime when it gets read from DB it should be substituted with run-time calculated value. Of course I can create derived class based on my EntityType but I've tried and found kinda difficulties, I'm not sure this is kinda right way to do. Anyway even when I try to change the whole EntityType to Abstract, damn Visual Studio doesn't want to validate that and says something like: "Error 2078: The EntityType 'AssetsModel.Asset' is Abstract and can be mapped only using IsTypeOf." "Error 2063: At least one property must be mapped in the set mapping for 'Assets'" What the hell is this suppose to mean I dunno.. Any ideas gentlemen?

  • Can I create an xml that specifies element from 2 nested xsd's without using a prefixes?

    - by TweeZz
    I have 2 xsd's which are nested: DefaultSchema.xsd: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xs:schema id="DefaultSchema" targetNamespace="http://myNamespace.com/DefaultSchema.xsd" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns="http://myNamespace.com/DefaultSchema.xsd" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" > <xs:complexType name="ZForm"> <xs:sequence minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"> <xs:element name="Part" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" type="Part"/> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="Title" use="required" type="xs:string"/> <xs:attribute name="Version" type="xs:int"/> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="Part"> <xs:sequence minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"> <xs:element name="Label" type="Label" minOccurs="0"></xs:element> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="Title" use="required" type="xs:string"/> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="Label"> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute name="Title" type="xs:string"/> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:schema> ExportSchema.xsd: (this one kinda wraps 1 more element (ZForms) around the main element (ZForm) of the DefaultSchema) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xs:schema id="ExportSchema" targetNamespace="http://myNamespace.com/ExportSchema.xsd" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns="http://myNamespace.com/DefaultSchema.xsd" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:es="http://myNamespace.com/ExportSchema.xsd" > <xs:import namespace="http://myNamespace.com/DefaultSchema.xsd" schemaLocation="DefaultSchema.xsd"/> <xs:element name="ZForms" type="es:ZFormType"></xs:element> <xs:complexType name="ZFormType"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="ZForm" type="ZForm" maxOccurs="unbounded" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:schema> And then finally I have a generated xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ZForms xmlns="http://myNamespace.com/ExportSchema.xsd"> <ZForm Version="1" Title="FormTitle"> <Part Title="PartTitle" > <Label Title="LabelTitle" /> </Part> </ZForm> </ZForms> Visual studio complains it doesn't know what 'Part' is. I was hoping I do not need to use xml namespace prefixes (..) to make this xml validate, since ExportSchema.xsd has a reference to the DefaultSChema.xsd. Is there any way to make that xml structure valid without explicitly specifying the DefaultSchema.xsd? Or is this a no go?

  • How to turn this simple 10 digit hex number back into 8 digits?

    - by Babil
    The algorithm to convert input 8 digit hex number into 10 digit are following: Given that the 8 digit number is: '12 34 56 78' x1 = 1 * 16^8 * 2^3 x2 = 2 * 16^7 * 2^2 x3 = 3 * 16^6 * 2^1 x4 = 4 * 16^4 * 2^4 x5 = 5 * 16^3 * 2^3 x6 = 6 * 16^2 * 2^2 x7 = 7 * 16^1 * 2^1 x8 = 8 * 16^0 * 2^0 Final 10 digit hex is: = x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 + x6 + x7 + x8 = '08 86 42 98 E8' The problem is - how to go back to 8 digit hex from a given 10 digit hex (for example: 08 86 42 98 E8 to 12 34 56 78) Some sample input and output are following: input output 11 11 11 11 08 42 10 84 21 22 22 33 33 10 84 21 8C 63 AB CD 12 34 52 D8 D0 88 64 45 78 96 32 21 4E 84 98 62 FF FF FF FF 7B DE F7 BD EF

  • does this raw sql only one trip to the database or many trips?

    - by Álvaro García
I gues that I have this sql: string strTSQL = "Begin TRAN delete from MyTable where ID = 1"; string strTSQL = ";delete from MyTable where ID = 2"; string strTSQL = ";delete from MyTable where ID = 3 COMMIT"; using(Entities dbContext = new Entities()) { dbCntext.MyTable.SQLQuery(strTSQL); } This use a transaction in the dataBase, so all the commands are executed or no one. But how I execute it through EF, it does only one trip to the database or many? Thanks.

  • How do I deal with connection strings in a Click-Once application?

    - by Pwninstein
I'm thinking of building a Click-Once application, and am trying to wrap my head around how to handle the whole connection string issue. The problem is the following: I want to use EF to get data directly from each client, thus requiring each client to have a connection string configured (this is not the issue). How do I deal with clients that are not on the same domain as the SQL Server being queried? In other words, if I tried to run my app from home as opposed to from work, what should my connection string look like? Would I need to configure my SQL Server differently to allow this scenario? Thanks in advance!

  • Mocking a namespace in a partial class.

    - by Nix
    I am messing around with Entity Framework 3.5 SP1 and I am trying to find a cleaner way to do the below. Basically I have an EF model and I am adding some Eager Loaded entities and i want to put them in the partial class context Eager namespace. Currently I am using composition but I feel like there is an easier way to do what I want. namespace Entities{ public partial class TestObjectContext { EagerExtensions Eager { get;set;} public TestObjectContext(){ Eager = new EagerExtensions (this); } } public partial class EagerExtensions { TestObjectContext context; public EagerExtensions(TestObjectContext _context){ context = _context; } public IQueryable<TestEntity> TestEntity { get { return context.TestEntity .Include("TestEntityType") .Include("Test.Attached.AttachedType") .AsQueryable(); } } } } public class Tester{ public void ShowHowIWantIt(){ TestObjectContext context= new TestObjectContext(); var query = from a in context.Eager.TestEntity select a; } }

  • Efficient retrieval of lists over WebServices

    - by Chris
I have a WCF WebService that uses LINQ and EF to connect to an SQL database. I have an ASP.NET MVC front end that collects its data from the webservice. It currently has functions such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(); As the number of customers increases massively the amount of data being passed increases also reducing efficiency. What is the best way to "page data" across WebServices etc. My current idea is to implement a crude paging system such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(int start, int length); This, however, means I would have to replicate such code for all functions returning List types. It is unfortunate that I cannot use LINQ as it would be much nicer. Does anyone have any advice or ideas of patterns to implement that would be "as nice as possible" Thanks

  • Python - alternative to list.remove(x)?

    - by Seafoid
Hi, I wish to compare two lists. Generally this is not a problem as I usually use a nested for loop and append the intersection to a new list. In this case, I need to delete the intersection of A and B from A. A = [['ab', 'cd', 'ef', '0', '567'], ['ghy5'], ['pop', 'eye']] B = [['ab'], ['hi'], ['op'], ['ej']] My objective is to compare A and B and delete A intersection B from A, i.e., delete A[0][0] in this case. I tried: def match(): for i in A: for j in i: for k in B: for v in k: if j == v: A.remove(j) list.remove(x) throws a ValueError.

  • Entity Framework 4 & WCF Data Service: N:M mapping

    - by JJO
I have three tables in my database: An A table, a B table, and a many-to-many ABMapping table. For simplicity, A and B are keyed with identity columns; ABMapping has just two columns: AId and BId. I built an Entity Framework 4 model from this, and it did correctly identify the N:M mapping between A and B. I then built a WCF Data Service based on this EF model. I'm trying to consume this WCF Data Service. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get a mapping between As and Bs to map back to the database. I've tried something like this: A a = new A(); B b = new B(); a.Bs.Add(b); connection.SaveChanges(); But this doesn't seem to have worked. Any clues? What am I missing?

  • Splitting a double in two, C#

    - by Stacey
I'm attempting to use a double to represent a bit of a dual-value type in a database that must sometimes accept two values, and sometimes accept only one (int). So the field is a float in the database, and in my C# code, it is a double (since mapping it via EF makes it a double for some reason... ) So basically what I want to do .. let's say 2.5 is the value. I want to separate that out into 2, and 5. Is there any implicit way to go about this?

  • Entity Framework 4 and 0:1, 0:1 relationships

    - by Eric J.
I'm using the Model First approach with EF 4 and hit a snag with two tables, Participant (singular because pre-existing from another app) and ActiveParticipants. A Participant may or may not be associated with exactly one ActiveParticipant and vice versa. When I create an association, everything seems to go well on the surface, but then I get a runtime error complaining that Participant does not contain the column ActiveParticipant_Id. It does contain a column ActiveParticipantId (no underscore). When I view the diagram as XML, there's a line like this: <Property Name="ActiveParticipant_Id" Type="uniqueidentifier" Nullable="true" /> Why is it adding an underscore? Is there anything special I need to do for 0:1, 0:1 relationships?

  • Entity Framework 5 not updating navigation properties in both entities

    - by Taylor
I have updated a project to use the new Entity framework shipped with VS2012, however I have run into some of my code throwing exceptions. In the VS10 version of EF I was able to create or modify and Entity and use its navigation properties before calling SaveChanges() For example: A Navigation property of a client having a collection of Invoices. Client c = new Client(); Invoice I = new Invoice(); c.Invoices.Add(I); I would then be able to use Invoice.Client somewhere in my code before actually saving it without issue. Now Invoice.Client == null. Similarly in setting I.Client = C, I does not show up under C.Invoices What am I missing here or is this just simply how EF5 is?

  • Which is the good way to update object in EF6

    - by TrieuH
I have searched and find 2 way to update object in EF var attachedEntity = _context.EntityClasses.Local.First(t => t.Id == entity.Id); //We have it in the context, need to update. if (attachedEntity != null) { var attachedEntry = _context.Entry(attachedEntity); attachedEntry.CurrentValues.SetValues(entity); } else { ////If it's not found locally, we can attach it by setting state to modified. ////This would result in a SQL update statement for all fields ////when SaveChanges is called. var entry = _context.Entry(entity); entry.State = EntityState.Modified; } _context.SaveChanges(); And other way is seem more easy var entity = _context.EntityClasses.FirstOrDefault(t => t.Id == entity.Id); _context.Entry(entity ).EntityState.Modified _context.SaveChanges(); What is best way to update object? • Múltiples clientes en el mismo Oracle UCM

    - by [email protected]

  • dotnet Cologne 2010

    - by WeigeltRo

  • #twitter for Windows Phone 7 protips (#wp7)

    - by Laurent Bugnion
I started tweeting a list of “protips” (or whatever you want to call that) related to the Twitter for Windows Phone 7 application. Since I worked as integrator on this app, my tasks involved integrating design assets in all screens, and so I had an insider view on all the screens (and that is really a LOT of screens :) Seeing some comments about the app made me understand that most users out there don’t realize how rich the application is, and how many features are available. So without further ado, here we go, a list of Twitter for WP7 protips: (note: I will extend the list if I think of new stuff, and maybe add some screenshots later). Check the dark theme in the application settings! Select a tweet, menu, Translate. Search, Nearby looks for tweets near you Custom searches can be saved. They synch up with web twitter too! Multi language support, independant from OS. supports EN, FR, DE, IT, ES Multiple accounts are supported, simply define them in the Settings Even without a Twitter account, experience is super rich. Trends, Suggested, Nearby, searches etc... Select a tweet, then press Replies To to see the whole conversation Compose, menu, Hashtags. Enter a hashtag and press Add. List is saved for the next time. Select a tweet with location info (like my own). Press the location name to see all Nearby tweets Want to remove location information just for one tweet? Press on the Places button in app bar then Clear Place Settings, General to toggle between Username/Fullname display, Relative/Absolute date/time and more Upload a picture directly from compose screen to TwitPic, yFrog or TweetPhoto (service selection in Settings) Settings, About, Support to see a log of app errors and email it to support (use wisely please) Tap your username to see your profile. Then Menu, Edit Profile to edit your info, including your picture Tap on any user's name to see his profile, tweets, mentions and favorites in a Pivot Happy Tweeting! • gl_PointCoord always zero

    - by Jonathan
I am trying to draw point sprites in OpenGL with a shader but gl_PointCoord is always zero. Here is my code Setup: //Shader creation..(includes glBindAttribLocation(program, ATTRIB_P, "p");) glEnableVertexAttribArray(ATTRIB_P); In the rendering loop: glUseProgram(shader_particles); float vertices[]={0.0f,0.0f,0.0f}; glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D); glEnable(GL_POINT_SPRITE); glEnable(GL_VERTEX_PROGRAM_POINT_SIZE); //glTexEnvi(GL_POINT_SPRITE, GL_COORD_REPLACE, GL_TRUE);(tried with this on/off, doesn't work) glVertexAttribPointer(ATTRIB_P, 3, GL_FLOAT, GL_FALSE, 0, vertices); glDrawArrays(GL_POINTS, 0, 1); Vertex Shader: attribute highp vec4 p; void main() { gl_PointSize = 40.0f; gl_Position = p; } Fragment Shader: void main() { gl_FragColor = vec4(gl_PointCoord.st, 0, 1);//if the coords range from 0-1, this should draw a square with black, red, green, yellow corners } But this only draws a black square with a size of 40. What am I doing wrong? Edit: Point sprites work when i use the fixed function, but I need to use shaders because in the end the code will be for opengl es 2.0 glUseProgram(0); glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D); glEnable(GL_POINT_SPRITE); glTexEnvi(GL_POINT_SPRITE, GL_COORD_REPLACE, GL_TRUE); glPointSize(40); glBegin(GL_POINTS); glVertex3f(0.0f,0.0f,0.0f); glEnd(); Is anyone able to get point sprites working with shader? If so, please share some code.
