  • How to deal with large open worlds?

    - by Mr. Beast
In most games the whole world is small enough to fit into memory, however there are games where this is not the case, how is this archived, how can the game still run fluid even though the world is so big and maybe even dynamic? How does the world change in memory while the player moves? Examples for this include the TES games (Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind), MMORPGs (World of Warcraft), Diablo, Titan Quest, Dwarf Fortress, Far Cry.

  • Are Google Maps Open?

    - by EmbeddedInsider
Right now they are ‘free’ but it is clear what the path forward is:   4.3 Advertising. The Service currently does not include advertising in the maps images. However, Google reserves the right to include advertising in the maps images provided to you through the Service, but will provide you with ninety (90) days notice prior to the commencement of advertising in the maps images. Such notice may be provided on relevant Google websites, including but not limited to the Google Geo Developers Blog and the Google Maps API Group (or such successor URLs that Google may designate from time to time). During that 90 day period, you may terminate your use of the Service, or provide notice of your refusal to accept advertising in the maps images in accordance with Google's policies and procedures for providing such notice (which Google may make available from time to time in its sole discretion). • Getting clusters of rows close together in time

    - by Mike
I have a table basically like so ID | ItemID | Start | End | --------------------------------------------------------------- 1 234 10/20/09 8:34:22 10/20/09 8:35:10 2 274 10/20/09 8:35:30 10/20/09 8:36:27 3 272 10/21/09 12:15:00 10/21/09 12:17:00 4 112 10/21/09 12:20:14 10/21/09 12:21:21 5 15 10/21/09 12:22:39 10/21/09 12:24:15 There are two "clusters" of entries here, 1-2 and 3-5 separated by a gap in time, specifically 30 minutes is what I'm interested in. What I would like is the first and last rows of the cluster of entries. This is fairly easy to achieve by retrieving all the rows and looping through them in order of start time, but I'd like to have it in SQL if possible. I'm using SQL Server 2008, thanks.

  • What's the command to open the Unity Dash?

    - by Scintoon
I would like to know the command (from the Terminal) which opens the Unity dash, the reason being I want to create a desktop icon that starts the dash instead of the 'Windows Key' for keyboard-free use of the computer (I miss the old Ubuntu-Tweak effect where putting your mouse to the corner of the desktop would reveal Expo or Scale effects - by the way, is it possible to get it back?) Making a launcher (Application, Name, Command, Comment, etc) I tried the commands 'Unity', 'Dash' and other things, but I didn't manage to get it to work. I am using version 12.04

  • How to work with file and streams in php, case: if we open file in Class A and pass open stream to Cl

    - by Rachel
I have two class, one is Business Logic Class{BLO} and the other one is Data Access Class{DAO} and I have dependency in my BLO class to my Dao class. Basically am opening a csv file to write into it in my BLO class using inside its constructor as I am creating an object of BLO and passing in file from command prompt: Code: $this->fin = fopen($file,'w+') or die('Cannot open file'); Now inside BLO I have one function notifiy, which call has dependency to DAO class and call getCurrentDBSnapshot function from the Dao and passes the open stream so that data gets populated into the stream. Code: Blo Class Constructor: public function __construct($file) { //Open Unica File for parsing. $this->fin = fopen($file,'w+') or die('Cannot open file'); // Initialize the Repository DAO. $this->dao = new Dao('REPO'); } Blo Class method that interacts with Dao Method and call getCurrentDBSnapshot. public function notifiy() { $data = $this->fin; var_dump($data); //resource(9) of type (stream) $outputFile=$this->dao->getCurrentDBSnapshot($data); // So basically am passing in $data which is resource((9) of type (stream) } Dao function: getCurrentDBSnapshot which get current state of Database table. public function getCurrentDBSnapshot($data) { $query = "SELECT * FROM myTable"; //Basically just preparing the query. $stmt = $this->connection->prepare($query); // Execute the statement $stmt->execute(); $header = array(); while ($row=$stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) { if(empty($header)) { // Get the header values from table(columnnames) $header = array_keys($row); // Populate csv file with header information from the mytable fputcsv($data, $header); } // Export every row to a file fputcsv($data, $row); } var_dump($data);//resource(9) of type (stream) return $data; } So basically in am getting back resource(9) of type (stream) from getCurrentDBSnapshot and am storing that stream into $outputFile in Blo class method notify. Now I want to close the file which I opened for writing and so it should be fclose of $outputFile or $data, because in both the cases it gives me: var_dump(fclose($outputFile)) as bool(false) var_dump(fclose($data)) as bool(false) and var_dump($outputFile) as resource(9) of type (Unknown) var_dump($data) as resource(9) of type (Unknown) My question is that if I open file using fopen in class A and if I call class B method from Class A method and pass an open stream, in our case $data, than Class B would perform some work and return back and open stream and so How can I close that open stream in Class A's method or it is ok to keep that stream open and not use fclose ? Would appreciate inputs as am not very sure as how this can be implemented.

  • Implications on automatically "open" third party domain aliasing to one of my subdomains

    - by Giovanni
I have a domain, let's call it www.mydomain.com where I have a portal with an active community of users. In this portal users cooperate in a wiki way to build some "kind of software". These software applications can then be run by accessing "public.mydomain.com/softwarename" I then want to let my users run these applications from their own subdomains. I know I can do that by automatically modifying the.htaccess file. This is not a problem. I want to let these users create dns aliases to let them access one specific subdomain. So if a user "pippo" that owns "www.pippo.com" wants to run software HelloWorld from his own subdomains he has to: Register to my site Create his own subdomain on his own site, run.pippo.com From his DNS control panel, he creates a CNAME record "run.pippo.com" pointing to "public.mydomain.com" He types in a browser http://run.pippo.com/HelloWorld When the software(that is physically run on my server) is called, first it checks that the originating domain is a trusted one. I don't do any other kind of check that restricts software execution. From a SEO perspective, I care about Google indexing of www.mydomain.com but I don't care about indexing of public.mydomain.com What are the possible security implications of doing this for my site? Is there a better way to do this or software that already does this that I can use?
