  • Malware Cross Site Scriptinig attack / XSS Attack?

    I have been hit by an Cross Site Scripting / XSS / RFI Attack, where I cant find it anywhere in the source of the files and Hashes on files have not been changed according to OSSEC HIDS that I run real time monitoring on all webdirs. File does not exist: /var/www/vhosts/superkids.dk/ggtest/tvdeurmee In the Access log, the following IP - - [09/Jun/2012:23:30:13 +0200] "GET /tvdeurmee/bapakluc.class HTTP/1.1" 404 504 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (Windows 7 6.1) Java/1.7.0_04" IP - - [09/Jun/2012:23:30:13 +0200] "GET /tvdeurmee/bapakluc/class.class HTTP/1.1" 404 509 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (Windows 7 6.1) Java/1.7.0_04" Now... the folder or path /tvdeurmee/bapakluc/ does not exist on the server in question, nor does the Java Class class.class, yet it still looks like an local call to the server and it was getting an "404 File not found / 504 Gateway Timeout" (attack was blocked by local machine, hence the timeout / not found) Any idea on how to prevent the attack ?   • Is there a way to tell what the download speed is from a site/server

    i'm looking into which ISP i should go with at the place i'm moving into, one ISP which i have been told good things about has data limits (which when breached will drop your speed to dial-up speed) but multiple memberships which, apart from the cheapest membership, have the same data limits (the cheapest has a 10GB data limit) in their fine print, they say that each different membership has different port speeds, one particular part jumps out at me These speeds are the NBN (National Broadband Network) port speed and not the actual Internet data speed which will vary based on numerous factors including destination you are reaching, your network equipment, network congestion etc. i plan to use the net to download DLC and patch updates for games (particular the insanely large update for the Wii U) and games from Steam (if i find any good one other than this one JRPG) and downloading development resources from free sites like Deposit Files and Mediafire since one membership with a 1000GB data limit is $145 with the port speed being 12Mbps/1Mbps (cheapest) while another with the same limit is $190 with the port speed of 100Mbps/40Mbps (expensive) i am wondering how i can tell what the speed coming from site is since i don't want to be wasting money on speed that makes no difference (unlike memory which i rather have to spare) NOTE: the speeds are for a fiber optic network which where my new place is can only connect via fixed wireless which i may not be able to get with this ISP but if i can get this network then good NOTE 2: most of the resources i get from Deposit Files are always about 200 MB or less, if a resource pack is greater then it's split into multiple archives (like .7z.part) while Mediafire i have to see one bigger than 150MB NOTE 3: one update patch for a PS3 game is close to 4 GB (Disgaea 4) which i need to get access to the DLC and on the weekend i downloaded 5 GB for the Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta for the PS3 which took almost 5 hours

  • Troubleshooting wireless connection problem / site survey?

    I just started in the IT department of a small company (200 users) and it's clear that one of the main problems that is driving everyone crazy is the spotty nature of the wireless connectivity throughout the office, particularly in certain conference rooms. This is a huge problem because the connection often drops during important presentations to clients. I was hired to help ease the load on the existing IT admin, who has done a great job, but is overloaded with many other tasks to deal with. So I would like to try to help out with this wireless issue. I am looking for advice on the best way to solve this problem--a realistic troubleshooting methodology that does not require me to spend any money. So far, I've experimented with Ekahau Heat Mapper, which is free and helps create a site survey. But I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for or if there are other programs/tools/methods I should try as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. [Some background: The wireless setup consists of an HP ProCurve Mobility MSM (710?) controller that controls 10 access points throughout the building. There are three virtual wireless networks configured on the controller: one seems to be a default that cannot be changed, one is for internal employees and authenticates via Active Directory, and the third is a guest network for visitors. When I use HeatMapper, these show up as three different SSIDs, with different MAC addresses, all on the same channel. At first I thought maybe this would cause interference, but this seems to be the way the controller works;apparently, it automatically configures the channels to avoid interference from the other APs on the network.]

  • 403 Forbidden when Deploying asp.net 4.0 site to IIS 7

    So I have an EC2 instance running, the URL NoWeatherSurprises.com I have the DNS pointing there, and I set up a new site in IIS 7 and pointed it to a folder. I used Visual Studios Web Developer 2010 express to publish to this folder. It now has the binaries and such. However if I go to NoWeatherSurprises.com I get the welcome to IIS 7 screen. I'd expect to go to my application If I navigate to http://noweathersurprises.com/weather/ [weather was the folder I published to under wwwroot] I get a 403 forbidden. I have no idea why, I am guessing that it is trying to do a directory listing or something instead of launching my MVC Application. So 2 problems in summary. It is not pointing the domain to the folder directly and I need to add /weather I am getting a 403 forbidden instead of the results of my home controller with the index action. I am new to IIS 7, I had been using IIS 6 and had a lot less trouble setting it up, but I suspect that's my own fault and i am just missing something. Thanks in advance for any help

  • Massive SQL issue shutting down our site.

    Our website has started timing out like crazy today. All of our clients are finding it unusable. The only error we can seem to trace down as a potential problem is this: SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_DBC failed Error ASP Description Error Category Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers I have no idea what it means or how to go about fixing it. Anyone ever encountered this error before? Currently, you can log in to our site, but then once you go to do anything else, you find yourself logged out or nothing happens. We have a lot of Ajax going on so the "nothing happens" probably has to do with the Ajax pages not loading properly due to logouts and so nothing displays to the user. Like I said, I'm at a loss. Anyone have any advice on this error? EDIT I realize that this isn't necessarily a programming question, but we are a small startup company that just yesterday started talking about how we need to get a backup server running. Apparently we talked about it too late. We don't have a DBA, just 2 mid level programmers trying their hardest to keep our clients happy. So please, if you have any assistance give it but please don't close my question right now. EDIT 2 Turns out we had something on our server running called "ServerMask" that makes our IIS server look like Apache to the outside world. Shutting it down fixed our issue. Still no idea why it was messing up but it was the problem apparently. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

    Hello everyone, Lately I had to reinstall my development site on my ubuntu machine since my system crashed after an os update. 4 days later my site is still not running as it should. Whenever i do an action which has in it an action on a database, it stops working.     I have two sites on the same server. One is loading perfectly and incredibly fast. The other is an equally complex site except a bit less javascript and 0 images. Its taking several seconds to load and there is a 1 in 3 chance that i get a Http500 error.     Inspired by the April 1 gravatar changes and the memory of last year's cornification of Stack Overflow, I wanted to add a cornify button to my company's SharePoint app. I just added their html snippet to a Content Editor Web Part. <a href="http://www.cornify.com" onclick="cornify_add();return false;"> <img src="http://www.cornify.com/assets/cornifycorn.gif" width="52" height="51" border="0" alt="Cornify" /> </a><script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.cornify.com/js/cornify.js"></script> The button renders all glittery and beautiful, and the magical functionality works fine in Chrome and Firefox (I'm on Windows 7) for me. But, in IE8, all the gorgeous unicorn images get added at the bottom of the page such that you can't see them unless you scroll down. Since most of our users are IE users, I fear that this just isn't going to be all that much fun. So, is there some known way to force this to work better in IE8, or is there another similarly fun site adornment utility that I could use that might behave better in a SharePoint 2007 app running in IE7/8?

  • SSL connection error for only one site (of many) on server

    I have a server running many websites, each with SSL. One of the sites is now refusing connections over SSL. This was previously working and I'm looking for assistance in determining what has been changed. Here's the situation: http://site1.com/ - works https://site1.com/ - works http://site2.com/ - works https://site2.com/ - Doesn't work (but did previously) Both sites are on the same server (Win Server 2003 SP2 - IIS6) Both sites use certificates from the same authority and are both valid (according to IIS). As far as I can tell, both sites have certificates configured identically in IIS. (Checked by a manual/visual check of properties, side by side) Through use of OpenSSL I can see that there's a "ssl handshake failure" when trying to connect to site2 using https. What could be the cause of this? How can I investigate further? Without SSL connections being available to this site, users are unable to log in or register. :( disclaimer: I'm not a server admin and not responsible for the box. Yes, there are wider issues here but I need to get this working again first.

  • Unable to access site over HTTPS using self signed certificate

    I am developing a REST API which I want to secure with SSL/TLS. I have implemented a large part of the API which I have tested over HTTP, however, I am now at the stage where I want to switch it over to use HTTPS. At the moment the API is hosted on a Windows XP professional SP2 box running IIS 5.1 (development environment only) and I used the SelfSSL.exe tool from the IIS 6.0 Resource Kit Tools to generate a server certificate. I then configured my API to use this certificate which all appeared to work fine as I attempted to connect to my API using HTTP and I get a 403 response saying "... must be accessed over a secure channel...". However, the problem is when I attempt to access the same the API over HTTPS it just appears to hang! As this is a development environment at the moment I don't have a domain name (just a static IP address) and the API is running on port 81. Also (incase it matters) the API is the default site (I replaced it). Any ideas why I can't connect using HTTPS?

  • Best way to run site through https on server which can't add additional certs

    So I'm in a curious situation in that I am using a particular server to host things, which I can't host anywhere else (it has access to user databases etc which can't otherwise be accessed). I've been in quite a bit of discussion with the sysadmin at it looks like the only way to run our site: www.foo.com over https may be through some sort of proxy. Currently, users go to www.foo.com and are redirected to https:// host-server.com/foo, as there is an SSL cert installed on that. I want users to be on https:// www.foo.com. I'm told that for various reasons it's going to be very difficult to add an additional SSL cert to the host server. So I was wondering if it is possible to have the DNS records point to a new server, which then creates the HTTPS connection with the browser. Then it forwards requests to https:// host-server.com/foo and feeds the replies back to the original requester. Does this make sense? And would it be at all feasible? My experience with SSL is limited at best, so thanks in advance for your help :) ps gaps in hyperlinks as ServerFault was getting unhappy with the number of links I was posting!

  • Domain name is bringing up wrong site

    I have a VPS that hosts several domains. I have set up Apache in the following manner: First VirtualHost /etc/apache2/sites-available/somedomain.com <VirtualHost somedomain.com:80> ServerName somedomain.com ServerAlias www.somedomain.com ... </VirtualHost> Second VirtualHost /etc/apache2/sites-available/someotherdomain.com <VirtualHost someotherdomain.com:80> ServerName someotherdomain.com ServerAlias www.someotherdomain.com ... </VirtualHost> Then I symlink the config files from sites-available to sites-enabled and all is well. I had a need to 'turn off' someotherdomain.com, so I removed the symlink to /etc/apache2/sites-available/someotherdomain.com from sites-enabled and the site no longer shows up... BUT typing someotherdomain.com into a web browser brings up somedomain.com!!! I need it to not resolve at all. Does somethiing need to be done in the VirtualHost to just automatically return a 500 or something along those lines. I really don't want people to reach one website from a different domain. Thanks!     A little question regarding performance in a Java web app. Let's assume I have a List<Rubrique> listRubriques with ten Rubrique objects. A Rubrique contains one list of products (List<product> listProducts) and one list of clients (List<Client> listClients). What exactly happens in memory if I do this: listRubriques.clear(); listRubriques = null; My point of view would be that, since listRubriques is empty, all my objects previously referenced by this list (including listProducts and listClients) will be garbage collected pretty soon. But since Collection in Java are a little bit tricky and since I have quite performance issues with my app i'm asking the question :) edit : let's assume now that my Client object contains a List<Client>. Therefore, I have kind of a circular reference between my objects. What would happen then if my listRubrique is set to null? This time, my point of view would be that my Client objects will become "unreachable" and might create a memory leak?

    After answering to a question about how to force-free objects in Java (the guy was clearing a 1.5GB HashMap) with System.gc(), I've been told it's a bad practice to call System.gc() manually, but the comments seemed mitigated about it. So much that no one dared to upvote it, nor downvote it. I've been told there it's a bad practice, but then I've also been told garbage collector runs don't systematically stop the world anymore, and that it could also be only seen as a hint, so I'm kind of at loss. I do understand that usually the JVM knows better than you when it needs to reclaim memory. I also understand that worrying about a few kilobytes of data is silly. And I also understand that even megabytes of data isn't what it was a few years back. But still, 1.5 gigabyte? And you know there's like 1.5 GB of data hanging around in memory; it's not like it's a shot in the dark. Is System.gc() systematically bad, or is there some point at which it becomes okay? So the question is actually double: Why is it or not a bad practice to call System.gc()? Is it really a hint under certain implementations, or is it always a full collection cycle? Are there really garbage collector implementations that can do their work without stopping the world? Please shed some light over the various assertions people have made. Where's the threshold? Is it never a good idea to call System.gc(), or are there times when it's acceptable? If any, what are those times?

  • Can memory be cleaned up?

    I am working in Delphi 5 (with FastMM installed) on a Win32 project, and have recently been trying to drastically reduce the memory usage in this application. So far, I have cut the usage nearly in half, but noticed something when working on a separate task. When I minimized the application, the memory usage shrunk from 45 megs down to 1 meg, which I attributed to it paging out to disk. When I restored it and restarted working, the memory went up only to 15 megs. As I continued working, the memory usage slowly went up again, and a minimize and restore flushed it back down to 15 megs. So to my thinking, when my code tells the system to release the memory, it is still being held on to according to Windows, and the actual garbage collection doesn't kick in until a lot later. Can anyone confirm/deny this sort of behavior? Is it possible to get the memory cleaned up programatically? If I keep using the program without doing this manual flush, I get an out of memory error after a while, and would like to eliminate that. Thanks.

I understand what the exception means, and that concurrency issues are a common cause of such exceptions (hence the locks), but it really doesn't make any sense to me in this situation. The clients of our service are Silverlight 3.0 clients using PollingDuplexHttpBinding which is the only binding available for Silverlight. We have been running fine for ages, but recently have been doing a lot of data binding, and this is when the issues started. Any help with this is appreciated as I am personally stumped at this time.

  • Generics vs inheritance (whenh no collection classes are involved)

    This is an extension of this questionand probably might even be a duplicate of some other question(If so, please forgive me). I see from MSDN that generics are usually used with collections The most common use for generic classes is with collections like linked lists, hash tables, stacks, queues, trees and so on where operations such as adding and removing items from the collection are performed in much the same way regardless of the type of data being stored. The examples I have seen also validate the above statement. Can someone give a valid use of generics in a real-life scenario which does not involve any collections ? Pedantically, I was thinking about making an example which does not involve collections public class Animal<T> { public void Speak() { Console.WriteLine("I am an Animal and my type is " + typeof(T).ToString()); } public void Eat() { //Eat food } } public class Dog { public void WhoAmI() { Console.WriteLine(this.GetType().ToString()); } } and "An Animal of type Dog" will be Animal<Dog> magic = new Animal<Dog>(); It is entirely possible to have Dog getting inherited from Animal (Assuming a non-generic version of Animal)Dog:Animal Therefore Dog is an Animal Another example I was thinking was a BankAccount. It can be BankAccount<Checking>,BankAccount<Savings>. This can very well be Checking:BankAccount and Savings:BankAccount. Are there any best practices to determine if we should go with generics or with inheritance ?

  • Multiple threads modifying a collection in Java??

    Hi, The project I am working on requires a whole bunch of queries towards a database. In principle there are two types of queries I am using: read from excel file, check for a couple of parameters and do a query for hits in the database. These hits are then registered as a series of custom classes. Any hit may (and most likely will) occur more than once so this part of the code checks and updates the occurrence in a custom list implementation that extends ArrayList. for each hit found, do a detail query and parse the output, so that the classes created in (I) get detailed info. I figured I would use multiple threads to optimize time-wise. However I can't really come up with a good way to solve the problem that occurs with the collection these items are stored in. To elaborate a little bit; throughout the execution objects are supposed to be modified by both (I) and (II). I deliberately didn't c/p any code, as it would be big chunks of code to make any sense.. I hope it make some sense with the description above. Thanks,
