• How to set an array to a list of values in VB.NET?

  I cannot figure out how to set an array to one of two sets of numbers (there will be more later), every way that I have tried throws some kind of error. I have tried to Dim the array inside the case statements, but then I cannot use the array in the For Each, which makes this worthless.... any ideas would be appreciated. • How-to build a droplet application in Xcode4?

  In Xcode3 there used to be a template to build "Droplet" Applications (head/nibless apps that would throw whatever dropped at them at an "on open" Applescript method). In Xcode4 this template is unfortunately gone. What are the required steps to setup an xcode4 droplet project? modify the info.plist i guess to make the app handle drops get rid of the nib (also involves changes in main.m and both AppDelegate.h and AppDelegate.m i guess) Maybe somebody even still has Xcode3 installed and could create an empty applescript droplet app and upload it somewhere? that would be very interesting. thanks! (or is there maybe even a way to export an app bundle created with the AppleScript Editor to Xcode?)

• PlayDependencyClassLoader does not find application code

  When a third party dependency attempts to load a class defined in a Play application using Class.forName(className, true, Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader()); Play will throw a ClassNotFoundException because the context class loader is of type PlayDependencyClassLoader which apparently only contains classes defined in jar dependencies. Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: eventstore.Commit at org.mapdb.SerializerPojo.classForName(SerializerPojo.java:96) at org.mapdb.SerializerPojo$1.deserialize(SerializerPojo.java:74) at org.mapdb.SerializerPojo$1.deserialize(SerializerPojo.java:39) This only occurs when Play is started with play run. Starting Play with play start loads the class correctly. It would be a shame to sacrifice the class hot-swapping because of this behavior. Is there a known workaround?

• Can I check wheter Linq 2 SQL's DataContext is tracking entities?

  We want to throw an exception, if a user calls DataContext.SubmitChanges() and the DataContext is not tracking anything. That is... it is OK to call SubmitChanges if there are no inserts, updates or deletes. But we want to ensure that the developer didn't forget to attach the entity to the DataContext. Even better... is it possible to get a collection of all entities that the DataContext is tracking (including those that are not changed)? PS: The last question I asked were answered with: "do it this way instead"... please don't :-)

• Broken pipe error in rails with memcached

  I keep running into this error MemCacheError (Broken pipe): Broken pipe on my Rails app and I can't figure out why. When I access memcached via Rails.cache in my controller, the first 1 or 2 read/writes always seems to throw the broken pipe error. But when I access memcached by creating a new object, ActiveSupport::Cache::MemCacheStore.new, I don't seem to get this error. I also access memcached in another ruby process, and the first read always has this error regardless of the way I access memcached. I did implement a work around just by retrying the read but id rather have a better long term solution. Currently the only time I see this problem is after I restart memcached. I'm using Rails 2.3.5 and memcached 1.4.4 (I've also tried this with memcached 1.2.2).

  hi all: I was in http://finance.yahoo.com/ and checked the europe tab ( markets are open here atm) you ll see trades updating live, I went to firebug to the Net tab and there was no updates... so I wonder how are they doing that? I can see there is a streamerapi.finance.yahoo.com that actually makes fiddler throw an error. Anyone knows anything else about this live update? Really interested in this, would really like to know if they are constantly polling , the updates seem to happen at irregular intervals found some info here Please note my interest is on the seeminly push aspect of it ( ie view is updated when there is new information) Cheers

• Calling SetWindowsHookEx inside VS2008 debugger always returns NULL

  we're working on a .Net application that does a low level keyboard hook. When we call the SetWindowsHookEx running inside the debugger the call always fail. When running from the compiled executable everything works fine. If we attach to the processs the the SetWindowsHookEx has been called everything works too. I've read somewhere (I can not remember) that VS already does a low level keyboard hook but this shouldn't be a problem as there is the CallNextHook function. Someone knows what's happening? EDIT: The code is pretty straigfoward, the exception is thrown inside debugger but not outside.   If you wrap a call to HttpResponse.End within a try catch block, the ThreadAbortException would automatically be re-raised. I assume this is the case even if you wrap the try catch block in a try catch block. How can I accomplish the same thing? • The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request - uploading less 2MB file size?

  The file succeed to upload when it is 2KB or lower in size. The main reason why I use streaming is to be able to upload file up to at least 1 GB. But when I try to upload file with less 1MB size, I get bad request. It is my first time to deal with downloading and uploading process, so I can't easily find the cause of error. • Control.EndInvoke resets call stack for exception

  I don't do a lot of Windows GUI programming, so this may all be common knowledge to people more familiar with WinForms than I am. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any resources to explain the issue, I encountered today during debugging. If we call EndInvoke on an async delegate. We will get any exception thrown during execution of the method re-thrown. The call stack will reflect the original source of the exception. However, if we do something similar on a Windows.Forms.Control, the implementation of Control.EndInvoke resets the call stack. This can be observed by a simple test or by looking at the code in Reflector. The relevant code excerpt from EndInvoke is here: if (entry.exception != null) { throw entry.exception; } I understand that Begin/EndInvoke on Control and async delegates are different, but I would have expected similar behavior on Control.EndInvoke. Is there any reason Control doesn't do whatever it is async delegates do to preserve the original call stack?

• Preserve images in Excel headers using Apache POI

  I am trying to generate Excel reports using Apache POI 3.6 (latest). Since POI has limited support for header and footer generation (text only), I decided to start from a blank excel file with the header already prepared and fill the Excel cells using POI (cf. question 714172). Unfortunately, when opening the workbook with POI and writing it immediately to disk (without any cell manpulation), the header seems to be lost.   I am planning a small, simple website to showcase myself as an engineer. My preferred language is Python and I hope to use it to create my website. My pages will be mostly static, with some database stored posts/links. The site will be simple, but I would like to have freedom in how it operates. I plan on using CSS/JS for the design, so I really just need an easy way to throw a small amount of content around. • Why eGet() in EMF returns Object rather than EObject?

  I am working on some code using the EMF framework in Java, but it is really hard to use, e.g. I cannot implement OCL-like query API on top of EMF which would be type-safe. One of the reasons is that eGet() for a EStructuralFeature return just an Object, not EObject. So anything I would write must use much of null checking, type checking and type casting which is unsafe, not performant and cannot be generalized in a reusable way. Why doesn't EMF generate dummy implementations with EObject wrappers for arbitrary Object value? Implementing the EObject and hence the EClass interfaces even with simple throw UnsupportedOperationException is really a pain (the APIs are too big). The same holds for the eContainer() method which makes navigatinng the model upwards painful.

  I have following two tables:- Table1 ------------- ID Name 1 A 2 B 3 C Table2 -------- ID Name 1 Z I need to insert data from Table1 to Table2 and I can use following sytax for the same:- INSERT INTO Table2(Id, Name) SELECT Id, Name FROM Table1 However, In my case duplicate Ids might exist in Table2 (In my case Its Just "1") and I dont want to copy that again as that would throw an error. I can write something like this:- IF NOT EXISTS(SELECT 1 FROM Table2 WHERE Id=1) INSERT INTO Table2 (Id, name) SELECT Id, name FROM Table1 ELSE INSERT INTO Table2 (Id, name) SELECT Id, name FROM Table1 WHERE Table1.Id<>1 Is there a better way to do this without using IF - ELSE? I want to avoid two INSERT INTO-SELECT statements based on some condition. Any help is appreciated.

The exception pops up saying that it is unhandled, and then the service stops. I even tried putting some code in the event handler, in case it was getting optimized away. Is this not the proper way to set up unhandled exception handling in a windows service?

  I'm working with a project that contains about 30 unique modules. It wasn't designed too well, so it's common that I create circular imports when adding some new functionality to the project. Of course, when I add the circular import, I'm unaware of it. Sometimes it's pretty obvious I've made a circular import when I get an error like AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'attribute' where I clearly defined 'attribute'. But other times, the code doesn't throw exceptions because of the way it's used. So, to my question: Is it possible to programmatically detect when and where a circular import is occuring?

Then I am initiating query on locked table (LOCKE TABLE users WRITE) and its just hanging, ignoring all my settings even: set_time_limit(1); ini_set('max_execution_time',1); ini_set('default_socket_timeout',1); ini_set('mysql.connect_timeout',1); I understand why set_time_limit(1) and max_execution_time is ignored but why other timeouts and especially MYSQLI_OPT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT are ignored and how to solve it. I am using PHP 5.3.1 on Windows and Linux boxes, please help.

• How do I get developers to treat test code as "real" code?

  In the last two companies I've been at, there is an overriding mentality among developers that it's okay to write unit tests in a throw-away style. Code that they would never write in the actual product suddenly becomes OK in the unit tests. I'm talking Rampant copying and pasting between tests Code styling rules not followed Hard-coded magic strings across tests No object-oriented thought or design for integration tests, mocks or helper objects (250 line single-function tests!) .. and so on. I'm highly dissatisfied with the quality of the test code. Generally we do not do code reviews on our test assemblies, and we also do not enforce style or code analysis of them on our build server. Is that the only way to overcome this inertia about test quality? I'm looking for ideas to take to our developers, without having to go to higher management saying that we need to use resources for enforcement of test quality (although I will if I have to). Any thoughts or similar experiences?
