• Best Practice - Validating Input In Simple GUI Application?

  I'm writing a GUI app with wxwidgets in C++ for one of my programming classes. We have to validate input and throw custom exceptions if it doesn't meet certain conditions. My question is, what is best practice when it comes to this? Should I write a seperate function that checks for errors, and have my event handler's call that function? Or should I do my error-checking in my event handlers? Or does it really matter? Thanks!

So i thought it would be a good idea to implement a menu item which allows to send the logcat file to a email adress, so that we can examine the logcat. Unfortunately I didnt found a hint in the Internet how to extract the Logcat from a phone. How to send a email shouldn't be the problem.

• Deleting entity with child relationships using .Net Entity Framework problem

  My God, EF is so frustrating. I can't seem to be able to get my head around what I need to do so I can delete an object. I seem to be able to remove the object but not the related child objects. Can anyone tell me what is the rule of thumb when you want to delete all related child objects of a given object? I've tried loading all related objects like this: if (!object.childobjects.IsLoaded) object.childobjects.Load(); but once I do the following I get errors related to the relationships: modelcontext.DeleteObject(object); modelcontext.SaveChanges(); Why can't I just load the object using modelcontext.GetObjectByKey and remove it along with its child objects? My other question is can I delete an object using Entity command like so? DELETE e from objectset as e where e.id = 12 I've tried few variations and all of them throw exceptions.

• What's so bad about in-line CSS?

  When I see website starter code and examples, the CSS is always in a separate file, named something like "main.css", "default.css", or "Site.css". However, when I'm coding up a page, I'm often tempted to throw the CSS in-line with a DOM element, such as by setting "float: right" on an image. I get the feeling that this is "bad coding", since it's so rarely done in examples. I understand that if the style will be applied to multiple objects, it's wise to follow "Don't Repeat Yourself" (DRY) and assign it to a CSS class to be referenced by each element. However, if I won't be repeating the CSS on another element, why not in-line the CSS as I write the HTML? The question: Is using in-line CSS considered bad, even if it will only be used on that element? If so, why? Example (is this bad?): <img src="myimage.gif" style="float:right" />

I´m facing a problem when trying to close a Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) window through another application, using the "Process.CloseMainWindow()" method; because it doesn´t close the Explorer window, it tries to close the full Windows (Operative System), by the way, Windows XP.   Hello: I am using ConfigParser to read the runtime configuration of a script. I would like to have the flexibility of not providing a section name (there are scripts which are simple enough; they don't need a 'section'). ConfigParser will throw the NoSectionError exception, and will not accept the file. How can I make ConfigParser simply retrieve the (key, value) tuples of a config file without section names? For instance: key1=val1 key2:val2 I would rather not write to the config file.

  All I want is a dictionary which tells me which key it couldn't find, rather than just saying The given key was not present in the dictionary. In the service, I've got my DAO, and my entity, and I want to delete my entity, so I call DAO.delete(entity); Then, seemingly out of nowhere, I get an InvocationTargetException. • JSF hiding exceptions?

  I have a managed bean for a JSF page which is doing JPA calls in the constructor to populate fields in the bean. I'm having a bit of trouble with another call to persist an entity (to populate data for testing). I'm expecting it to throw some sort of exception since it's not working, but I'm not getting anything. Just of the heck of it I tried the following: Query newQuery = em.createQuery("Bad Syntax"); List newList = newQuery.getResultList(); I'd expect an IllegalArgumentException here since the query string is completely invalid, but the page still loads and I don't see any exceptions anywhere. Am I right in expecting this exception? If so, why am I not seeing it?

However, when moved to production, it works for excel 97-2003 files, but when I try to read 2007 files I receive the following error: Access to the path 'C:\Documents and Settings\PORTALS03\ASPNET\LOCALS~1\Temp\TMP_Z129388041687919815' is denied. How is it possible that the 97-2003 excel file can be read but the 2007 files throw access is denied?

To achieve this, I need to break up all my chaining and follow each call with an if block. It makes the code a lot less readable. Ideally I'd like to be able to weave in some chained method calls which would allow me to handle unexpected outcomes at each point (e.g. throw a meaningful exception such as new ConventionException("The report contains no parameter") if the first method returns an empty collection). Can anyone suggest a simple way to achieve such a thing?

I've got the following code: $('.custom_control_div').replaceWith( "<div><cc:mycustomcontrol id='cControl' ></cc:mycustomcontrol></div>" ); This doesn't throw any errors, but doesn't work because I need to use runat=server in my custom control. However, if I add runat=server in the code above, no javascript is executed on the page (and jqueryUI no longer works). The custom control works fine when I add it directly to the page from design-time. Is there a way to add a control, with runat=server using Jquery? Thanks

It is a webservice which is used for the communication between Java based web Front-end and the DCE Backend. whenever the DCE Backend is not running or down due to some core dumps, the application throws the CustomExcep.   Hello, It seems I tend to attract strange issues. This time, I have written a C# application, and handled most of the exceptions I can find. The problem is, when I run the installed/bundled version on any PC for the first time in a day (after the PC has been shut down and started after a while) it comes across some error and has to shutdown the application (even though the try-catch block surrounding the Main() does not fire). The application does not throw the same error on subsequent runs. I added an #if(!DEBUG) ... #else ... #endif surrounding the Main() code. Can anyone help me? Thanks!
