• Ado.Net Entity produces "namespace cannot be found"

  I've seen several possible solutions to this, but none have worked for me. After adding a ADO.NET Entity Data Model to my .Net Forms C# web project, I am unable to use it. Perhaps I made a mistake adding it? The name of the file added is QcFormData.edmx. In my code, perhaps I'm instantiating it incorrectly? I tried adding the line: QcFormDataContainer db = new QcFormDataContainer(); It appears in Intellisense, but when compiling I get the error : Error 13 The type or namespace name 'QcFormDataContainer' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I've followed the suggestions that I found online that did not help: 1) made sure there is "using System.Data.Entity" 2) made sure the dll exists. 3) made sure the reference exists. 4) one post said use using System.Web.Data.Entity; but I do not see that available. What am I missing? • Linux C: "Interactive session" with separate read and write named pipes?

  Hi all, I am trying to work with "Introduction to Interprocess Communication Using Named Pipes - Full-Duplex Communication Using Named Pipes", http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/named_pipes.html#5 ; in particular fd_server.c (included below for reference) Here is my info and compile line: :~$ cat /etc/issue Ubuntu 10.04 LTS \n \l :~$ gcc --version gcc (Ubuntu 4.4.3-4ubuntu5) 4.4.3 :~$ gcc fd_server.c -o fd_server fd_server.c creates two named pipes, one for reading and one for writing. What I mean by that, is that screen can be called like screen /dev/ttyS0 38400, and then it makes a sort of a interactive session, where what is typed in terminal is passed to /dev/ttyS0, and its response is written to terminal. Now, of course, I cannot use screen, because in my case the program has two separate nodes, and as far as I can tell, screen can refer to only one. Except that, I'd like to not have buffered input, but sent character by character (meaning the above session should exit after first key press, and print out a single letter only - which is what I expected stty raw would help with, but it doesn't: it just kills reaction to both Enter and Ctrl-C :) ) I was just wandering if there already is an existing command (akin to screen in respect to serial devices, I guess) that would accept two such named pipes as arguments, and establish a "terminal" or "shell" like session through them; or would I have to use scripts as above and/or program own 'client' that will behave as a terminal..

• JScrollPane content to image

  I'm trying to save the main viewport and headers of a JScrollPane (larger than screen) to PNG image files. I created 3 classes extending JPanel (MainTablePanel, MapsHeaderPanel and ItemsHeaderPanel) and set them to the viewports. Each of them has this method: public BufferedImage createImage() { BufferedImage bi = new BufferedImage(getSize().width, getSize().height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_ARGB); Graphics g = bi.createGraphics(); paint(g); g.dispose(); return bi; } Each class has also a paint method, which paints the background and then call the super.paint() to paint some label. It seems like the second paint (super.paint(g)) is painted shifted into the BufferedImage and taking elements outside its JPanel. Somebody could explain me this behaviour?   Intro: EDIT: See solution at the bottom of this question (c++) I have a programming contest coming up in about half a week, and I've been prepping :) I found a bunch of questions from this canadian competition, they're great practice: http://cemc.math.uwaterloo.ca/contests/computing/2009/stage2/day1.pdf I'm looking at problem B ("Dinner"). Any idea where to start? I can't really think of anything besides the naive approach (ie. trying all permutations) which would take too long to be a valid answer. Btw, the language there says c++ and pascal I think, but i don't care what language you use - I mean really all I want is a hint as to the direction I should proceed in, and perhpas a short explanation to go along with it. It feels like I'm missing something obvious... Of course extended speculation is more than welcome, but I just wanted to clarify that I'm not looking for a full solution here :) Short version of the question: You have a binary string N of length 1-100 (in the question they use H's and G's instead of one's and 0's). You must remove all of the digits from it, in the least number of steps possible. In each step you may remove any number of adjacent digits so long as they are the same. That is, in each step you can remove any number of adjacent G's, or any number of adjacent H's, but you can't remove H's and G's in one step. Example: HHHGHHGHH Solution to the example: 1. HHGGHH (remove middle Hs) 2. HHHH (remove middle Gs) 3. Done (remove Hs) -->Would return '3' as the answer. Note that there can also be a limit placed on how large adjacent groups have to be when you remove them. For example it might say '2', and then you can't remove single digits (you'd have to remove pairs or larger groups at a time). Solution I took Mark Harrison's main algorithm, and Paradigm's grouping idea and used them to create the solution below. • How to make a form using ajax, onchange event, reload to SAME page

  I've been studying this for a while and I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way because every form I setup according to examples, it doesn't do what I need. I need to setup a form that will: set session when you select from dropdown menu not reload/refresh page (i've read that using AJAX solves this) submit and stay on SAME page (confused because most AJAX examples send it to different process.php page which is supposedly "invisible" but it doesn't "stay" on the same page, it redirects. Basically, client selects quantity of 1 to 10. If they select "2"... it does NOT reload the page.. but it DOES set a session[quantity]=2. Should be simple... but do I POST to same page as form? or POST to different page and it somehow redirects? If the mapping is successful - that timezone is used to convert the record timestamp (pacific time) to the respective local timestamp. If no mapping is found - a rough approximation is calculated. The timezones collection is appropriately indexed, of course - calling explain() confirms it. The process is slow. Naturally, having to query the timezones collection for every record kills the performance. I am looking for advises on how to improve it. Thanks. Surprisingly, not only there is no improvement, but it works even more slowly now! May be rtree could be fine tuned to load the entire dat/idx pair into RAM (704M), but I do not know how to do it. Until then, it is not an alternative. In general, I think the solution should involve parallelization of the task. If you need any more information just ask. EDIT: I'm practically certain the problem has nothing to do with my router settings. When disabling my port forwarding settings I get a slightly different error: Client exception: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: (-WAN IP NOT LOCAL IP-); but it appears both on the machine locally connected to the server and on the remote machine. In addition, I got it to work seamlessly when connecting the server straight tho the modem (cutting out the router. I can only conclude the problem is in my router's settings but can't see where (I've checked and double checked the port forwarding page). That's the only answer i can come up with.

• jQuery getting these functions to work together

  I'm new to jQuery and have tried looking around for an answer on how to do this. I have 2 functions and I would like both to work together. The one function is submitHandler and its used to hide a form and at the same time add a class to a hidden element to unhide it - ie a thank you for submitting h1. The other function is to grab the input data and display it onsubmit in the form. So the problem is that I can get that one to work but then the other doesnt. Ie on form submit I can see the data input but not the h1 Thank you message. • Hibernate without primary keys generated by db?

  I'm building a data warehouse and want to use InfiniDB as the storage engine. However, it doesn't allow primary keys or foreign key constraints (or any constraints for that matter). Hibernate complains "The database returned no natively generated identity value" when I perform an insert. Each table is relational, and contains a unique integer column that was previously used as the primary key - I want to keep that, but just not have the constraint in the db that the column is the primary key. I'm assuming the problem is that Hibernate expects the db to return a generated key.   I am trying to build a forum with Codeigniter. So far i have the forums themselves displayed and the threads displayed, based on the creating dynamic news tutorial. But that is 2 different pages, i need to obviously display them into one page, like this: Forum 1 - thread 1 - thread 2 - thread 3 Forum 2 - thread 1 - thread 2 etc. And then the next step is obviously to display all the posts in a thread. Most likely with some pagination going on. But that is for later.   Hi everyone, I tried to figure this out for some days now, I tried to use my own object to sort of replace the global object to reduce problems with other scripts (userscripts, chrome extensions... that kind of stuff). However I can't get things to work for some reason. I tried some debugging with JSLint, the developer tools included in Google Chrome, Firebug and the integrated schript debugger in IE8 but there is no error that explains why it doesn't work at all in any browser I tried. I tried IE 8, Google Chrome 10.0.612.3 dev, Firefox 3.6.13, Safari 5.0.3 and Opera 11. • Help with shopping cart in javascript

  Hey guys, I'm having problems with my shopping cart. What I am trying to do is make a function that will add an item the cart and then and function that will view the cart and show the details. But what I have got so far does not do that, it just simply adds and goes straight to view cart. Also I wanted to store the name of each items in different global arrays (name, price and sum) but I can't get it work that way. Can any help me overcome this problem? I was wondering if somehow I could make a public void that would just make the form pop up and ask the user 3 to 5 questions and then once it asks the maximum number of questions, to close and then have a method that returns true if the user won, or false if they didn't. But I literally have no idea how to do that. Edit: So I know a for loop can make code run more than once. But the problem I'm having is, is that I don't know how to make it so that the trivia game asks 3 to 5 questions BEFORE returning something.

• Why is JSON outputting out of order?

  I'm am trying to get a list of weather information for 8 locations. I'm using a weather API that accepts longitude and latitude and spits back json output with the weather info for that location. I feed the coords in order 0-7 but when json processes the data it comes back in a seemingly random order. I assume it's because some process faster than others and json is outputing what it gets back as it gets it. But in IE(8) it looks there is a problem which I was unable to locate.   When creating a new project using zf create project myproject it will create a default project layout with an application.ini in the configs folder. Where can I change these default settings so that it generates (and uses) an XML file (application.xml)? I've looked at the documentation for Zend_Tool (http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/zend.tool.html), but there seems to be no information on how to do this. And suppose you'd like to use a different default folder layout (ie. use htdocs instead of public as your document root), is there a way to specify this as well? Any pointers to relevant information (btw I've looked at the Quickstart, nothing relevant is mentioned there unless I'm overlooking it)? edit I already tried creating a profile (stored in .zf/project/profiles), and used that to create a project (using zf create project myproject myprofile) but that doesn't change anything, even though the .zfproject.xml file in the root of the new project does contain the <applicationConfigFile type="xml"/> setting... • Help with understanding why UAC dialog pops up on Win7 for our application

  We have a C++ unmanaged application that appears to cause a UAC prompt. It seems to happen on Win7 and NOT on Vista Unfortunately the UAC dlg is system modal so I can't attach a debugger to check in the code where it is, and running under msdev (we're using 2008) runs in elevated mode. We put a message box at the start of our program/winmain but it doesn't even get that far, so apparently this is in the startup code. What can cause a UAC notification so early and what other things can I do to track down the cause? EDIT Apparently the manifest is an important issue here, but it seems not to be helping me - or perhaps I am not configuring the manifest file correctly. Can someone provide a sample manifest? Also, does the linker/UAC magic figure out that the program "might" write to the registry and set its UAC requirements based on that? There are code paths that might trigger UAC, but we are not even at that point when the UAC dlg comes up. An additional oddity is that this does not seem to happen on Vista with UAC turned on. • Preventing ListBox scrolling to top when updated

  I'm trying to build a simple music player with a ListBox playlist. When adding audio files to the playlist, it first fills the ListBox with the filenames and then (on a separate thread) extracts the ID3 data and overwrites the filenames with the correct Artist - Title information (much like Winamp). But while the ListBox is being updated, it's unscrollable, as it always jumps to the top on every item overwrite. Any way to prevent this?
