• Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't detect external usb hard drive

  I have been batting with this issue for a bit and cannot find the answer to it. Now when i look in the disk utility it shows "Hard disk Symwave WD6400AAKS-0 device /dev/sdc doesn't show any other info then that, if i format, it says that it cannot open /dev/sdc no device or address error. Underneeth the device it does show two general usb3.0 CRW that are sdd and sde. • Media Monkey music management alternative?

  Media Monkey has some great and simple music management tools, like batch renaming, moving, fetching metadata, etc. I use Picard for some music organization, but it doesn't have as many options, namely that it will only automatically rename music it finds in its database and I have a lot of classical music which isn't in any data base or is already named how I want it (in their filenames) and I want to write the correct metadata and organize these files into folders. So is there other music management applications in linux other than Picard with a similar feature set to Media Monkey?

Thats the problem everytime that i tried to boot it came an error... syslinux no default or ui configuration directive found. Before post an answer i already tried renamed isolinux etc (folder and cfg n bin) with syslinux and tried too using yumi, universal boot and live linux... Thanks for ur help!

  I'm a visually impaired Linux/Ubuntu newbie. I've installed 12.04 from a live CD and have the Orca screen reader running at start up. Speach works fine but there is no magnification. When I open Orca preferences there is no magnification tab. I have tried uninstalling Orca and re-installing if from the Software Centre, but still no magnification. Can anyone tell me how to add magnification to Orca? Thanks.

• mouse pointer doesn't move

  From one week ago, I am experiencing this issue with a USB mouse on Kubuntu 12.04: the mouse pointer doesn't move unless I hit a click on the left button. After the click, it moves regularly, but as soon as I stop it, it needs another click to reactivate. The weird thing is that the same mouse behaves normally on my desktop computer, which has the same linux distribution with the same updates. Update: I realized that on my laptop this happens only when the machine runs on battery.

  After installing the Samsung Color Laser Printer CLP-365W in 12.04, the printout is condensed into the left half of the A4 page (regardless whether 'fit to page' on or off). This happens both with the automatically recognised Ubuntu driver and the 'Unified Linux driver' from the Samsung website.   Today we did another patch set update for Oracle VM 3 (3.0.3-build 227). This can be downloaded from My Oracle Support as patch ID 14736185. There are quite a few updates in here and I highly recommend any Oracle VM 3 customer or user to install this update. This patch can be installed on top of Oracle VM 3.0 versions 3.0.2 and 3.0.3. The patch is cumulative for 3.0.3. So if you already installed patch update 1 (3.0.3-150) then this will just be incremental on top of that and brings you to 3.0.3-build 227. There is a readme file which contains the patchlist in the patch info. There is a set of man pages in /u01/app/oracle/ovm-manager-3/ovm_utils/man/man8. There now are 6 commands : ovm_vmcontrol : VM level operations ovm_servercontrol : server level operations ovm_vmdisks : virtual disk/physical location mapping for VM disks ovm_vmmessage : message passing utility between the manager and the VM tools (in the Oracle VM templates) ovm_repocontrol : repository level operations ovm_poolcontrol : pool level operations Some of the new changes : at a pool level, acknowledge events and cascade to servers and virtual machines with outstanding events at a pool level, do a rescan of the storage for fibrechannel/iscsi disks if you add new devices (it does this operation then on every running server) at a repository level, fixup a device if it had a failed create repository at a repository level, refresh the repository and this will update the free space in the UI for ocfs2 repositories at a server level, acknowledge server events and cascade to virtual machines if needed at a VM level, acknowledge VM events at a VM level, bind vcpus to cores with vcpuset/vcpuget Please see the man pages and remember that these tools are just written As Is - no SRs... (per the documentation) Hopefully they are useful.

• Finale or Sibelius on Ubuntu 11.10 under Wine?

  I want to install either Finale 2011-2012 or Sibelius 5-6-7 on my 11.10 install via Wine. Before I purchase any of them, does anyone know if they work on Wine 1.4 (or even 1.5) on 11.10? I've seen some posts on the Winehq about those programs, but they are on older Wine releases on older Ubuntu releases with older versions of software. Also, I'm not the biggest fan of MuseScore...if anyone knows of any native programs for Linux that as powerful as Finale or Sibelius, could anyone let me know?
