  How do I go about the [HandleError] filter in asp.net MVC Preview 5? I set the customErrors in my web.config file <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error.aspx"> <error statusCode="403" redirect="NoAccess.htm"/> <error statusCode="404" redirect="FileNotFound.htm"/> </customErrors> and put [HandleError] above my Controller Class like this: [HandleError] public class DSWebsiteController: Controller{ [snip] public ActionResult CrashTest() { throw new Exception("Oh Noes!"); } } Then I let my controllers inherit from this class and call CrashTest() on them. Visual studio halts at the error and after pressing f5 to continue, I get rerouted to Error.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/sxi.mvc/CrashTest (where sxi is the name of the used controller. Off course the path cannot be found and I get "Server Error in '/' Application." 404. This site was ported from preview 3 to 5. Everything runs (wasn't that much work to port) except the error handling. When I create a complete new project the error handling seems to work. Ideas? --Note-- Since this question has over 3K views now, I thought it would be beneficial to put in what I'm currently (asp.net mvc 1.0) using. In the mvc contrib project there is a brilliant attribute called "RescueAttribute" You should probably check it out too ;)

  I am running the 2.0 RTM of NServiceBus and am getting a NullReferenceException when my MessageModule binds the CurrentSessionContext to my NHibernate sessionfactory. Should this call to configure NServiceBus occur later in the lifecycle than Application_Start? Or is there another workaround that others have used to get handlers working within an Asp.NET Web application? Thanks, Steve

I'm trying to use a ViewModel to pull and provide a dictionary to a drop down list inside a strongly typed View: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="Notebook.ViewModels.CorporationJoinViewModel" %> ... <%: Html.DropDownListFor(c => c.CorpDictionary.Keys, new SelectList(Model.CorpDictionary, "Value", "Key"))%> I'm getting the error CS1061: 'object' does not contain a definition for 'CorpDictionary' and no extension method 'CorpDictionary' accepting a first argument of type 'object' could be found and the relevant bit of my ViewModel public class CorporationJoinViewModel { DB _db = new DB(); // data context public Dictionary<int, string> CorpDictionary { get { Dictionary<int, string> corporations = new Dictionary<int, string>(); int x = 0; foreach (Corporation corp in _db.Corporations) { corporations.Add(x, corp.name); } return corporations; } } I'll admit i have a pretty magical understanding of how linq is finding my ViewModel object from that lambda, and the error message is making me think it's not.   I'm want a IDictionary<float, foo> that returns the larges values of the key first. private IDictionary<float, foo> layers = new SortedDictionary<float, foo>(new DescendingComparer<float>()); class DescendingComparer<T> : IComparer<T> where T : IComparable<T> { public int Compare(T x, T y) { return -y.CompareTo(x); } } However, this returns values in order of the smallest first. I feel like I'm making a stupid mistake here. Just to see what would happen, I removed the - sign from the comparator: public int Compare(T x, T y) { return y.CompareTo(x); } But I got the same result. This reinforces my intuition that I'm making a stupid error. This is the code that accesses the dictionary: foreach (KeyValuePair<float, foo> kv in sortedLayers) { // ... } UPDATE: This works, but is too slow to call as frequently as I need to call this method: IOrderedEnumerable<KeyValuePair<float, foo>> sortedLayers = layers.OrderByDescending(kv => kv.Key); foreach (KeyValuePair<float, ICollection<IGameObjectController>> kv in sortedLayers) { // ... } UPDATE: I put a break point in the comparator that never gets hit as I add and remove kv pairs from the dictionary. What could this mean?

• Jquery AutoComplete Plugin calling

  When I use JQuery's autocomplete and hardcode the array values in the page it works wonderful; but what I need to do is obtain the array values from either a web service or from a public function inside a controller. I have tried various way and can't seem to make it work. The farthest I got is pulling the data in to a long string and when the auto complete results are provided it's the long string which matches, which I understand why. $("#TaskEmailNotificationList").autocomplete("http://localhost/BetterTaskList/Accounts/registeredUsersEmailList", { multiple: true, mustMatch: false, multipleSeparator: ";", autoFill: true }); has anyone encountered this? I am using C#. • Synchronizing ASP.NET MVC action methods with ReaderWriterLockSlim

  Any obvious issues/problems/gotchas with synchronizing access (in an ASP.NET MVC blogging engine) to a shared object model (NHibernate, but it could be anything) at the Controller/Action level via ReaderWriterLockSlim? (Assume the object model is very large and expensive to build per-request, so we need to share it among requests.) Here's how a typical "Read Post" action would look. Enter the read lock, do some work, exit the read lock. public ActionResult ReadPost(int id) { // ReaderWriterLockSlim allows multiple concurrent writes; this method // only blocks in the unlikely event that some other client is currently // writing to the model, which would only happen if a comment were being // submitted or a new post were being saved. _lock.EnterReadLock(); try { // Access the model, fetch the post with specificied id // Pseudocode, etc. Post p = TheObjectModel.GetPostByID(id); ActionResult ar = View(p); return ar; } finally { // Under all code paths, we must release the read lock _lock.ExitReadLock(); } } Meanwhile, if a user submits a comment or an author authors a new post, they're going to need write access to the model, which is done roughly like so: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult SaveComment(/* some posted data */) { // try/finally omitted for brevity _lock.EnterWriteLock(); // Save the comment to the DB, update the model to include the comment, etc. _lock.ExitWriteLock(); } Of course, this could also be done by tagging those action methods with some sort of "synchronized" attribute... but however you do it, my question is is this a bad idea? ps. ReaderWriterLockSlim is optimized for multiple concurrent reads, and only blocks if the write lock is held. Since writes are so infrequent (1000s or 10,000s or 100,000s of reads for every 1 write), and since they're of such a short duration, the effect is that the model is synchronized , and almost nobody ever locks, and if they do, it's not for very long.

• Why isn't my new object being seen? C#

  I am getting ready to take a class at a college on C#. I have been reading up on it a lot and decided to start a fun project. Here is what my project consists of: Main Control Form Configuration Form Arduino Program.cs calls Configuration.cs at start. This is where pin modes for the Arduino are set and where a timer is set. When I set these values, they get sent to MainControl.cs. When I hit the "Save" button in Configuration.cs, a MainControl.cs object is created [[I am correct in that?]] All of those values that were sent by Configuration.cs had corresponding setters that set private static variables in MainControl.cs [[ I don't really know if that is the preferred way, I am most definetly open to any suggestion anyone has]] MainControl.cs uses its default constructor, and this constructor calls a method that creates an arduino object from one of the private variables (serialPort) [[ Using this Arduino class Firmata.NET ]] When the arduino object is created, I know (I guess I do) because the form takes a few seconds to come up (As opposed to not using serial port) My problem is this: I do not understand why nothing can see the object I have been very wordy, I apologize if I wasn't concise. Here is the code: public partial class CMainControl : Form { private static string serialPort; public CMainControl() { InitializeComponent(); createArduino(); updateConfig(); // Change label values to values set in configuration } private void createArduino() { Arduino arduino = new Arduino(serialPort); } In Configuration.cs, when I set the serial port through a combobox, the value is sent to MainControl.cs just fine. • How can I scale an OSMF player in ActionScript 3/Flex

  I am trying to create a simple video player SWF using the open source media framework in Flex 4. I want to make it dynamically scale based on the dimensions of the video, input by the user. I am following the directions on the Adobe help site, but the video does not seem to scale properly. Depending on the size, sometimes videos play larger than the space allotted on the webpage, and sometimes smaller. The only way I have been able to get it to work properly is by including a SWF metadata tag hardcoding the width and height, but I can't use that if I want to make the player dynamically sized.   I am using C# .NET 4.0, Newtonsoft JSON 4.5.0. public class Recipe { [JsonProperty(TypeNameHandling = TypeNameHandling.All)] public List<IFood> Foods{ get; set; } ... } I want to serialize and deserialize this Recipe object. If I serialize and deserialize the object during application lifetime this succeeds, but if I serialize the object, exit application and then deserialize it then it throws an exception, that it cannot instantiate IFood (since it is an interface). The problem is that it does not serialize the implementation of interface. "$type": "System.Collections.Generic.List`1[[NSM.Shared.Models.IFood, NSMShared]], mscorlib" I tried using TypeNameHandling.Object and Array and Auto, but it didn't help. Is there any way to serialize it properly? Or at least to define the class mapping before deserializing? EDIT: I am using JSON coupled with Hammock ( http://code.google.com/p/relax-net/ ), C# driver for CouchDB, which internally serializes and deserializes objects. As mentioned the problem is that it does not serialize the interface implementation.

  Im working on a Chat client that i didnt write the bulk of the code for. It works fine however when someone sends a message it beeps (system error beep) when using Java 7. Java 6 and below doesn't have this beep. I cant seem to find whats causing the beep is there any way to find it ? I dont think its calling beep as i have public class nobeep extends sun.awt.windows.WToolkit { @Override public void beep() { System.out.println("tried to beep"); new Exception().printStackTrace(); } } and then called System.setProperty("awt.toolkit", "nobeep"); in the main method. Using the method to send a beep doesnt make it beep. Its only when sent normally. Is there a quick way to track down the cause of the beep ? Edit: After looking in the bugs database - its confirmed. http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=7194469 I know it says no work around but is there one (java not c++) or just wait until update 8 ?

• How do i transfer this unmanaged code from asp to asp.net 2/mvc?

  hi guys, i'm a newbie to ASP.net interop features, so what i have right here is some unmanaged dll that i need to call from my asp.net mvc app. the dll name is CTSerialNumChecksum.dll set CheckSumObj = Server.CreateObject("CTSerialNumChecksum.CRC32API") validSno = CheckSumObj.ValidateSerialNumber(no) i know it's unmanaged because when i try to add reference to the dll it doesn't work. i try to follow some tutorials on interop and marshalling but thus far i wasn't able to get the code to work. i'm trying to wrap the object into another static class and just let the rest of the app to call the code. using System; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; namespace OnlineRegisteration.Models { public static class SerialNumberChecksum { [DllImport("CTSerialNumChecksum")] public static extern int ValidateSerialNumber(string serialNo); } } Questions: How do i write the class? And what tool can i use to identify what type of dll a particular file is, i.e. unmanaged c++, etc? Also i intend to make use jquery to do ajax call later so i can use this to validate my form pre-submission. Is there a better way to handle this?

  I understand how to do a Distinct() on a IEnumerable and that I have to create an IEqualityComparer for more advanced stuff however is there a way in which you can tell which duplicated item to return? For example say you have a List<T> List<MyClass> test = new List<MyClass>(); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 1, InnerID = 4}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 2, InnerID = 4}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 3, InnerID = 14}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 4, InnerID = 14}); You then do: var distinctItems = test.Distinct(new DistinctItemComparer()); class DistinctItemComparer : IEqualityComparer<MyClass> { public bool Equals(MyClass x, MyClass y) { return x.InnerID == y.InnerID;; } public int GetHashCode(MyClassobj) { return obj.InnerID.GetHasCode(); } } This code will return the classes with ID 1 and 3. Is there a way to return the ID matches 2 & 4.
