• How to deploy ClickOnce .Net 3.5 application on 3.0 machine

  I have .Net 3.5 SP1 WPF application which I'm successfully deploying to client computers using ClickOnce. Now I got new requirement - one of our clients need to run the application on machines equipped just with .Net 3.0 and it's entirely impossible to upgrade or install anything on the machines. I already tried to run the 3.5 application with some of the 3.5FW DLLs copied to the application directory and it worked without any problems. The only problem at the moment is ClickOnce. I already made it to include the 3.5FW System.*.dll files in list of application files, but it always aborts installation on 3.0 machine with this error message: Unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly System.Core Version 3.5.0.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first. Please contact your system administrator. I already tried to tweak prerequisites on Publish tab of my project, but no combination solved the issue. What part of ClickOnce is responsible for checking prerequisites? I already tried to deploy using mageui.exe, but the 3.5FW error is still present. What should I do to fore ClickOnce to stop checking any prerequisites at all? The project is created using VS2010.

• twython search api rate limit: Header information will not be updated

  I want to handle the Search-API rate limit of 180 requests / 15 minutes. The first solution I came up with was to check the remaining requests in the header and wait 900 seconds.   Is there any POSIX signals that I could utilize in my Perl program to create event-driven programming? Currently, I have multi-process program that is able to cross communicate but my parent thread is only able to listen to listen at one child at a time. foreach (@proc) { sysread(${$_}{'read'}, my $line, 100); #problem here chomp($line); print "Parent hears: $line\n"; } The problem is that the parent sits in a continual wait state until it receives it a signal from the first child before it can continue on. I am relying on 'pipe' for my intercommunication. • Reading system.net/mailSettings/smtp from Web.config in Medium trust environment

  Hi, I have some inherited code which stores SMTP server, username, password in the system.net/mailSettings/smtp section of the Web.config. It used to read them like so: Configuration c = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration(HttpContext.Current.Request.ApplicationPath); MailSettingsSectionGroup settings = (MailSettingsSectionGroup)c.GetSectionGroup("system.net/mailSettings"); return settings.Smtp.Network.Host; But this was failing when I had to deploy to a medium trust environment. So following the answer from this question, I rewrote it to use GetSection() like so: SmtpSection settings = (SmtpSection)ConfigurationManager.GetSection("system.net/mailSettings/smtp"); return settings.Network.Host; But it's still giving me a SecurityException on Medium trust, with the following message: Request for ConfigurationPermission failed while attempting to access configuration section 'system.net/mailSettings/smtp'. To allow all callers to access the data for this section, set section attribute 'requirePermission' equal 'false' in the configuration file where this section is declared. So I tried this requirePermission attribute, but can't figure out where to put it. If I apply it to the <smtp> node, I get a ConfigurationError: "Unrecognized attribute 'requirePermission'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive." If I apply it to the <mailSettings> node, I still get the SecurityException. Is there any way to get at this config section programatically under medium trust? Or should I just give up on it and move the setting into <appSettings>?

  Hi, I am currently building a dynamic url tab system that user can say what urls they want to be displayed on a tabpage control. In the database i have the following columns. userID, int URLName var Enabled bit I am pulling the data back ok but what i am trying do is populate a checkbox list with the urlname and its status on a user options page so they can say what tabs they want displayed. I have wrote the following methods to get the urls and create the checkboxes however i keep getting the following error. ex = {"InvalidArgument=Value of '1' is not valid for 'index'.\r\nParameter name: index"} It reads the first row ok but when it hits the 2nd row that is being returned i get that error. Has anyone got any ideas? • error C2512 in precompiled header file?

  I'm having a ridiculously strange problem. When I try to run the program below, there's an error message that says: "error C2512: 'Record' : no appropriate default constructor available". And when I double-click it, it directs me to a precompiled read-only header file named "xmemory0". Do they expect me to change a read-only file? • Flash Without a SWF File?

  Is there any way to embed Flash completely in HTML, without reference to an external SWF file? I ask because I would like to send an HTML file as an email attachment that the recipient will open in a browser and fill out as a form. The last step is that they will copy the result to their clipboard, paste it into a new message, and email it back. I cannot reliably copy to the clipboard with JavaScript because of the security issues, but there are simple Flash apps to add that capability. I know I could just display the response text (which will be Base64 encoded) to the recipient and have them copy/paste, but it would be nice to provide this small convenience to them. Also, so you are aware, the text is often too large to include in an email using mailto. Yes. This needs to be done via email. The users have slow, occasional satellite email access and no other data connection to the interwebs. To make things worse, I cannot make them install anything. It is a difficult situation.

• Can I automatically throw descriptive exceptions with parameter values and class feild information?

  I honestly don't throw exceptions often. I catch them even less, ironically. I currently work in shop where we let them bubble up to avicode. For whatever reason, however, avicode isn't configured to capture some of the critical bits I need when these exceptions come bouncing back to my attention. Specifically, I'd like to see the parameter values and the class’s field data at the time of the exception. I’d guess with the large suite of .Net services that I could create a static method to crawl up the stack, gather these bits and store them in a string that I could stick in my exception message. I really don't are how long such a method would take to execute as performance is no longer a concern when I hit one of these scenarios. If it's possible, I'm sure someone has done it. If that's the case, I'm having a hard time finding it. I think any search containing "exception" brings back too many resutls. Anyway, can this be done? If so, some examples or links would be great. • Using ScriptingBridge framework for communicating with Entourage

  Hi, The motivation for my question is the following doc, which describes how mail.app could be integrated using ScriptingBridge: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/samplecode/SBSendEmail/Introduction/Intro.html I tried to apply a similar technique with Entourage as well but could not get any results so far. I understand that using AppleScript would help me solve my problem and mactech.com has extensive documentation for doing so. But i find this ScriptingBridge technique elegant and want to figure why it is not working for me with Entourage. The biggest problem seems to be my inability to create Scripting classes based on their names as it happens in Mail because Entourage has a different interface than Mail as their headers indicate. Could someone please tell me what I am missing or provide any sort of hint on why this wont work? • ASP.NET MVC routing issue with Google Chrome client

  My Silverlight 4 app is hosted in ASP.NET MVC 2 web application. It works fine when I browse with Internet Explorer 8. However Google Chrome (version 5) cannot find ASP.NET controllers. Specifically, the following ASP.NET controller works both with Chrome and IE. //[OutputCache(NoStore = true, Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "None")] public ContentResult TestMe() { ContentResult result = new ContentResult(); XElement response = new XElement("SvrResponse", new XElement("Data", "my data")); result.Content = response.ToString(); return result; } If I uncomment [OutputCache] attribute then it works with IE but not with Chrome. Also, I use custom model binding with controllers, so if I write the following: public ContentResult TestMe(UserContext userContext) { ... } it also works with IE, but again not with Chrome which gives me error message saying that resource was not found. Of course, I configured IIS 6 for handling all requests via aspnet_isapi.dll and I have registered custom model binder in my web app's Global.asax inside Application_Start() method. Can someone explain me what might be the cause? Thank you.

• Very Unusual Margin Appears Always in Internet Explorer [CSS]

  Only in Internet Explorer does this occur: I'm getting an additional margin (of 19 pixels) below a fieldset and I can't seem to see why, whatever I try! Try it for yourself, take a look at http://theshrop.com/d/call_us_or_call_in.php. To aid I've added a grid and some background colours. The fieldset should have a 1.125em bottom margin and it does in Safari, Firefox etc. It has an extra 19 pixels in Internet Explorer? • Issue with 'Hello Android' tutorial

  I am brand new to Eclipse and Android, but somewhat familiar with Java. That having been said, I tried to follow the 'Hello Android' tutorial from the developer site using the latest Eclipse (Galieo) and the 2.1 Android SDK, I am on a Macintosh running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6). I have a default virtual device (though my target is actually for phones like my own HTC Incredible which has the snapdragon processor and of course all the latest accoutrement in smart phones. Everything seemed to go okay until I went to RUN>RUN and then selected 'Android Application'. My computer spins it's wheels for a while and then I see two errors. Sometime it's an unknow error instead, with reference to the same file. If you execute the binary, thats deployd during the debug, on the device it runs without any problem. I've tried: Reinstall both .net and sqlce on the device. Changed the "specific version" on the reference properties in the project. The hardware I'm using is a Motorola MC70 with Windows mobile 5.0. The target platform of the project is windows mobile 5.0. Any ideas on what might cause this problem? EDIT: When I tried it on a MC75 I can debug it. The MC70 got OS Version: 05.01.0478 and the MC75 05.01.0478. My best guess now is that it's someway related to the OS version or the actual device.

  I am having trouble getting my JSP page to load a Java class which is in a jar file. I have bounced the server several times between changes. I have read a whole bunch of questions on here which say "put it in WEB-INF/lib" but that isn't working, so I'm asking my own question.   I'm testing out a piece of code to ping a bunch of websites I own on a regular basis, to make sure they're up. I'm using rails and so far I have this hideous test action that I'm using to try it out (see below). The problem though, is that sometimes it works, and other times it won't ... sometimes it runs through the code just fine, other times, it seems to completely ignore the begin/rescue block ... a. I need help figuring out what the problem is b. And refactoring this to make it look respectable. • Ajax UpdatePanels SetFocus issue

  I set the AutoPostback property of a textbox to True so I can process the TextChanged event on the server and, based on what they typed in the textbox, appropriately display a message in an update panel. The problem is, when the partial screen refresh is performed, no control on the screen has focus. 99% of the time, when the text in the textbox is changed, it is because the user has tabbed forward, and so, to limit the disruption in the lost of focus, I perform a "Focus" call on teh next control in the tab sequence. For the most part, this works OK, but of course, is disputive if the user is tabbing in the reverse order or has used the mouse to set the focus to another control. In these situations, the focus would be set to the next control even though the user was trying to set focus elsewhere. OK, that sucks. Now what I consider the bigger problem with calling the focus method on the server: In IE, it works OK, but in Mozilla Firefox and Chrome, setting the focus causes a repositioning of the scroll bar, even though none is necessary because the control is already in view. I realize that I could switch to doing AJAX web service calls, but these darn Updae Panels are so convenient if used in moderation. is there anyway to use updatepanels and not have these focus/scroll issues?

  I am working on a custom data transformation component. I'm using NUnit and NMock2 to test as I code. Testing and getting the custom UI and other features right is a huge pain, in part because I can't find any documentation about the order in which SSIS invokes methods on the component at design time as well as runtime. I can correct the issues readily enough, but it's tedious and time consuming to unregister the old version, register the new version, fire up the test ssis package, try to display the UI, get an obscure error message, backtrace it, modify the component and continue. One of the big issues involves the UI component needing access to the componentmetadata and buffermanager properties of the component at design time, and what I need to provide for to support properties that won't be initialized until after the user enters them in the UI. I can work through it; but if someone knows of some docs or tips that would speed me up, I'd greatly appreciate it. The samples I've found havn't been much use; they seem to be directed to showing off cool stuff (Twitter, weather.com) rather than actual work. Thanks in advance.

  I am trying to build an QT State Maschine. I have some States, and for those States i need Transition that alter the Graphics on my gui. The Problem i having and the only reason i am asking, i am Stuck and Point 1. The compiler cant identifie the QTEventTransition. I have QT 4.6 wroking with QT Creator on Windows. • Detect TCP connection close when playing Flash video

  On the Flash client side, how do I detect when the server purposely closes the TCP connection to its video stream? I'll need to take action when this occurs - maybe attempt to restart the video or display an error message. Currently, the connection closing and the connection being slow look the same to me. The NetStream object ushers a NetStream.Play.Stop event in both cases. When the connection is slow, it usually recovers by itself within seconds. I wish to only take action when the connection is closed, not when it is slow. Here's how my general setup looks like.
