• Is it possible to have a JPanel over JTable

  Hello, I have a JTable whose associated TableModel could be initially empty. Therefore, it currently shows a JTable with its columns and no rows. In order to fill this JTable, I want the user to drag and drop elements from another component. The problem is that I would like to hint the user that he/she should drag elements to this table, with some message like "Drag xxx here to add a row". I thought that I could achieve this by putting a panel over the JTable , but I don't think it is possible with any java layout. Does anyone know how to do this? Or should I stick to a CardLayout to switch to/from the hint and the JTable? Thanks a lot

• Object Reference Error filling a datarow

  This is the code: Dim dr() As DataRow = DataSet.Tables("TableName").Select("EVENTNAME = '" & name & "'") I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Error when this line is executed. It is looping through a list of selected items in a listbox. I think it has to do with how I have the datarow declared because I can look at the name and I see it ok and I also do a null check on the name before I use it. Visual Studio 2008, VB.NET. Any ideas? Yep it was a wrong table name. I guess after looking at the code for 8 hours that minor detail I just wasn't thinking to check. Thanks!

  I've been following Apple's TableSearch code example, but it's not working for me and I think I'm doing everything the same way they did it. The method below should be fired whenever the user types anything into the search box, but it never gets fired for me, just on the sample app. I have the appropriate @interface ContactsTableVC : UITableViewController { in the header file. • Linq to Entities and LEFT OUTER JOIN issue with MANY:1 relations

  Can somebody tell me, why does Linq to Entities translate many to 1 relationships to left outer join instead of inner join? Because there's referential constraint on DB itself that ensures there's a record in the right table, so inner join should be used instead (and it would work much faster) If relation was many to 0..1 left outer join would be correct. Question Is it possible to write LINQ in a way so it will translate to inner join rather than left outer join. It would speed query execution a lot... I haven't used eSQL before, but would it be wise to use it in instead of LINQ? Edit I updated my tags to include technology I'm using in the background: Entity Framework V1 Devart dotConnect for Mysql MySql database If someone could test if the same is true on Microsoft SQL server it would also give me some insight if this is Devart's issue or it's a general L2EF functionality... • UISearchbar clearButton forces the keyboard to appear

  I have a UISearchBar which acts as a live filter for a table view. When the keyboard is dismissed via endEditing:, the query text and the gray circular "clear" button remain. From here, if I tap the gray "clear" button the keyboard reappears as the text is cleared. How do I prevent this? If the keyboard is not currently open I want that button to clear the text without reopening the keyboard. There is a protocol method that gets called when I tap the clear button. But sending the UISearchBar a resignFirstResponder message doesn't have any effect on the keyboard.

Where TypeID can be 1,2 or 3 and Gender can be M or F. So what I want is the following: TypeID Gender SUM(Count) 1 M 10 1 F 9 2 M 0 2 F 0 3 M 19 3 F 0 I can think of a few ways to potentially do this, but none of them seem particularly elegant to me. • Nhibernate Criteria Ignore Child Collection

  I have a simple one to many association in my model. The parent class has a collection of children. In the mapping files, the association is a one to many, eager-loaded, using fetchmode.join. This works fine, but how can I write a criteria query but NOT trigger the loading of the child collection? In other words, I want to query the parent and not have it generate the join in the resulting sql. I tried setting the fetch mode to lazy, but in that case Nhibernate generates two separate queries. I don't want the table for child queried at all.

Issue: The checkboxes for this dynamically generated column are all disabled. • Consultant "branding" problem

  Where I work, we employ a consultant to do a considerable amount of work for us to hold us over until we can hire/train more staff. He has been working with us for quite a long time now, and he has always had this strange habit of leaving his initials on EVERYTHING he touches, as if its his sort of branding or advertising. And by everything, I mean: Database names Table names Variable names Web service names File names Server names etc... Is this a common practice among consultants? We politely asked if he could remove some of the branding, but he typically scoffs and quotes exorbitant time estimates to perform such 'silly' refactorings. I guess we could leave it alone, but it's really annoying to have to type out his name every time we reference something he made. Any recommendations on how to approach this problem? Edit: Our contract with him states that we "own" everything he makes for us.

  I have a function that sums a column of data in an html table. It does so admirably only I would like to have it put the commas in there that are needed to separate the thousands. Initially, you'll note, there are commas in the numbers being added. So that the function will add them, they are removed.   Hi there. Im creating customizable product attributes in a web store - each attribute can have different type of data, each data type is stored in a separate column using corresponding mysql datatype. • What makes a bad programming language bad?

  We have all seen things like the typing system of JavaScript (There is a funny post including a truth table somewhere around here). I consider this one of the main things that makes a programming language bad. Other things that spring to mind: Bad Error messages (Either obfuscated so you can't figure out whats wrong, not existing or simply too long and red) The language wasn't planned and just grew uncontrolled in all directions (PHP?) The language encourages bad programm(er/ing) habits such as: Global variables everywhere, bad variable names Inconsistent naming conventions inside the language I can't come up with any more at the moment and would be very happy to read what you think about this. What shouldn't be missing in a language created to be as bad (from the perspectives of the programmer, the company that hires to programmer, the team leader and the customer) as possible? (I ask this because I'm designing a bad, experimental language at the moment)

• SQL Server: Can INFORMATION_SCHEMA Tell Me When a SQL Object Was Created?

  Given: I added a non-nullable foreign key to a table. I settled on a way to populate the foreign key with default values. I checked in both changes to a re-runnable DB creation script. Other developers ran this script, and now they have the foreign key populated with default values on their developer machines. A few days later however... I changed my mind. Now I'd like to populate the foreign key's default values differently. My Question: Can SQL Server or INFORMATION_SCHEMA tell me when SQL objects were created? Ideally, I'd like to drop and re-add the foreign key if it was created before a certain date/time. Any help or alternative strategies would be greatly appreciated. Obviously, I'd like to avoid going to each developer's cube, asking them to drop the foreign key manually.

Maybe I need to create an index? This table can have up to 1000K records in production.

• Problem with Access 2003 linking tables with SQL Server 2008 using ODBC

  I am trying to link an Access 2003 DB to tables in a SQL Server 2008 database using ODBC. When I try to link to tables that have Primary Key established I get the following error message. " 'Pk_dbo.Batch_Claims' is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not to long. " Pk_dbo.Batch_Claims is the key value I see when looking at the table through SSMS. I have used Access for awhile but am somewhat new to SQL Server and connections using ODBC. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
